[Q] Voltage for no battery? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I know the maximum voltage is 4205mV but what is the minimum? When my battery level was at 6, the voltage was ~3,600mv which concerns me because I have a gut instinct that my phone actually has more juice but is miscalibrated towards higher voltages.
I saw the Ultimate Battery Guide and it mentions that before calibration, OP charged to 100% and had ~3,400mV. This means that despite his terrible battery life, he was still able to run his phone at a voltage lower than my lowest - and his was at 100%!
So what voltages are you lot getting when battery life is almost dead?
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Wow, it's been 5 months and I forgot about this thread.
So...
BUMP!!!!

Glad u bumped this up I am at 32 percent and have 3792mv still I keep running g it down see what I get
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

Ok at 4 percent I am at 3490
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

I've seen voltage readings logged in Battery Monitor Widget as low as 3200 - 3300 mV before the phone shutdown automatically. The low 3400's are probably more common with a percent or two remaining.

[Q] Battery issue

So, over the past few days I've been noticing a few problems with my phone, all of which have to do with the battery. After installing fauxes OC 1.3ghz kernel I noticed a drop in usages before the phone died, that's a given. So i flashed his enhanced 1ghz kernel instead, but still notice bad battery drops when im using it. It doesn't drop 40% over night or anything, only about 6%. But, if i turn the phone off and back on the % jumps up. Sometimes 20%. Is there anything wrong with the battery, or the phone?
Try calibrating the battery.
i haven't doe that since my first phone. How would i go about doing that.

Also, with faux's kernels check your CPU clocking with setCPU, or something similar. Somtimes it will lock at the max clock speed which will contribute to quick battery drain. I'm on his stock enhanced and getting close to 2 days with moderate use.
How do you get two days of battery?! Thar's intense! I haven't been able to get past the 15 or 16 hours with the stock kernel, neither with faux's stock enhanced! Do you usually drop your cpu speed while it's in your pocket or something? Or do I have a bad battery? Because I've been really concerned about this battery not lasting the monster time it is supposed to last...

I have uv and profiles set up in setCPU. I'm actually a little amazed by how good it's been since re-installing all of my mods (went back to stock recovery due to some issues).
If you're experience battery jumps then install the fix noted in the calibration instructions. Most likely you're battery isn't charging to full capacity, so that coupled with the improperly reported stats make it seem much worse than it is. The process is a bit time consuming, but it did work for me.

Well I have Alien #4 custom rom and it actually has the battery fix so it shows the 1% increase/decrease and I recently did a battery calibration by waiting til it got to 100% with an app that deletes the battery stats as if you would do with recovery mode. I also have CWM recovery and everything doing fine there, my kernel is now Faux's 1.3GHz but limited with SetCPU to 1GHz, and I don't know if it'll get me a better battery life just that kernel. What do you mean by uv? And I have profiles set for when the screen is off and when its charging but nothing else apart from the 1GHz setting. Is it normal that I only have 2 scaling options? Powersave and performace?
Thank you. I will be trying this tomorrow when I have the huge amount of time needed to complete this. And uv means under volt.

Thanks to you! I really appreciate it. I will be waiting for your response and maybe you could tell me if it lasts longer with the 1.3GHz ir the 1GHz. Thanks!!

Dead battery mV

So since 2.3.4 has the battery level issue I've been using Battery Calibration to keep track of my battery level. It reads the mV level consistently after a reboot. I know around 4200 is full. Has anyone checked to see what near empty is?
Sent from my Liberated X2!
I can't say for certain but, I do believe my phone auto-shutoff after it went south of 3700mV. So 3700mV is damn close to dead. Don't know what the exact level is though.
Thanks. That's all I needed. I'm going to try to run this thing dead today and see where its at.

3700 is nowhere near empty, the highest shutoff ive seen was st 3475 and ive seen as low as 3250, i use batstat wiget so my mV is always on my home screen
from my finally liberated X2 roaming the north
My battery is at 3629mV now. And the phone hasn't shutoff yet. But what was odd was just as I typing this post, the battery was at 3495mV. Then it jumped up to 3619mV then up to 3629.
EDIT - I guess when I have the LED on, it puts a bit of a load on the battery so now it's reading 3490mV.
Maximum charge on a single cell lithium battery is 4205 mV. The theoretical "dead" is 3189 mV. Therefore 3700 mV should be at 50%.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
The last time my phone shut off I had seen my widget reading around 3350 but I wasn't looking at widget when shut off. I was texting and browsing. I am incline to believe it was around 3200 give or take.
Also, assuming voltage decreases linearly with current drain is incorrect.

I'm not sure what you mean by that? Care to elaborate? For my own curiosity
Voltage & current drain don't necessarily parallel each other. They might not be occurring at the same rate at the same time.

Overheating: standard battery vs extended

Does the extended battery cause more overheating than the standard? I've had the phone for three days now, and this thing heats up way too much with normal usage. To the point the LED blinks... I use the extended, but am willing to buy the standard if it'll help.
I have only had it blink when using ics Roms...and it occurs with the standard battery as well for me. I am hoping when ics is official the kernel will fix the heat issues. My phone works good on ics on either battery until I start actually using my phone.
Sent from my Rezound
Yea I'm rooted, on stock ROM. Been an issue from minute one...
Nils business ics is the best for me battery and heat wise. With a max CPU speed of 1.2ghz and tweaked conservative governor, and limiting screen brightness to a max of 40%, I have yet to see the phone get to 39c. Before with auto brightness and full speed on demand gov it would push 43c which bothers me. This is all with standard battery. I usually don't worry much about extended battery since it lasts forever compared to standard. Hope that gives some ideas

Battery Drainage Issues

Let me start off by saying I have a Sprint Galaxy S3 and I know that this is the wrong thread, but the one meant for US devices isn't allowing posts.
So I've noticed a HUGE decrease in battery life from my Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy S3. My nexus I was getting like 15-20 hours of moderate use. I will include screen shots to show what I'm running etc... so I'll just explain my usage. I had all of my GPS/Location services off, I had wifi off, I had mobile network/data off. I sent a max of 10 texts and received a max of 10 texts, the screen was only on for about a half an hour, I have used Voltage Control to underclock it to 1134, and the kernel I'm running said it comes under volted. When I left this afternoon for work I had a charge of 100%. At 6:15 when I got home (approximately 4 1/2 hours later) I had 65% battery.
Can someone please help me get this working properly?
Edit: I also forgot to mention my screen brightness was all of the way down and I am using the Voltage Control powersave CPU Governor.
Try using Better Battery Stats to see what is causing the battery drain, then just freeze/uninstall whatever it is that is the problem

Indeed, that's some pretty ridiculous drain, I'd say lower screen brightness but even at full bright that kind of drain seems abnormal.
I agree with the guy above me, get BBS and start hunting wakelocks.

Galaxy S2 bad battery life on every rom (even stock)

Hi,
I've been flashing roms onto my phone for months now and what I've realised is that the battery life is always awful. I hardly ever get past 10 hours, with just 1 hour of screen on time as my battery drains in stand by. I've tried cm7, cm9, perfect galaxy, miui, stock and many more, but my battery life always seems to be the same. Currently I'm running cmiui (latest version) and still battery is draining very fast. I read about people having amazing battery life on a daily basis.
My current battery life drains by 1% every 2-3 minutes of screen on time and about 5% of drain when in deep sleep or stand by an hour, sometimes even more. I use betterbatterystats, cpuspy and gsapp to monitor my battery but nothing suspicious occurs. Usually my 'awake' time tends to be 50% higher than my screen on time according to betterbatterystats, however all the wake locks tend to be kernel related. Changing kernel doesn't change this either. I've literally tried everything, installing several kernels, modems and calibrating my battery every time I flash a new rom.
Also what I realised is that my phone frequently overheats near the camera and even sometimes reaches 50°c.
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me on this topic. It is really frustrating that I cannot get through a day of even light use of my phone, which makes it almost unusable as I'm always concerned about my battery. I've also tried several batteries, so the problem doesn't lie with the battery.

Everytime you install a new Rom/Kernel you have to wait for it to settle down (About 2 Charging cycles). If I flash a new Rom to my device Batterydrain is very high too at the beginning. What you can do is install a Rom and a kernel which supports undervolting and underclocking.
I use Resurrection Remix ICS 2.6.1 with the Siyah 3.5.2 Kernel with this Voltage/Clock settings (LESS AGGRESSIVE UV VALUES with -50mv and not -75mv undervolting):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26755476&postcount=850
With this settings I get 16 - 18 hours easily and with about 2 1/2 -3 1/2 hours of screentime and also about over 4 hours of listening music and doing other stuff of course.
Everytime you undervolt/underclock make a Nandroid backup!
Thanks, I've heard about the battery charging cycle before, I'm new to cmiui, flashed it yesterday but I've had cm9 on for about two months and the battery life was horrendous. I will try the undervolting and see how that goes

Strange, I am on stock and can make almost whole day with 3-4h screen time. Sounds like some issue either with battery or with the phone.

get a 2000 mha battery over ebay
I have been used 2000mah battery, miui 2.8.3 + siyah 4.0.1 kernel, no serious battery life issue :good:
I have a 1800mah battery, its actually not that much better than the stock battery, but doesn't the 2000mah add extra thickness?

Yes but it`s no thicker than your speaker part of the phone.
I'll have a look at it, I've re calibrated my battery this morning and ismt half bad so far. Its 9 o clock now and sill have 38% left with about 1.5h of screen on time, phones been unplugged for about 10 hours. I've used the undervolt setting as suggested but still loose about 4% of battery in stand by each hour. On comparison my mums iPhone 3gs looses about 1% every 3 hours. Surely the android battery isn't that much worse

If it occurs with every rom you have could it be app related, wiggets or syncing too frequently?

That's what I thought but I've analysed my apps with betterbatterystats and gsapp, nothing suspicious came up and wakelocks are always kernel related. I've tried several kernels as well

Get cpu spy from the play store to see if your device is deep sleeping. Also, you can try 1900mah anker battery. I got two and a charger off eBay for $25 can. Definitely a good deal

Mysterious indeed, all I can suggest is what I would try which is to give a custom rom call slim rom a go after full wipes and format system. Its a stripped down rom and always gives good battery life as it's so lean. Hope you find a fix soon all the best.

maybe your battery is bad i bought a great 2500mah battery on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/2500mAh-Ext...ccessories&hash=item4ab6494de0#ht_2481wt_1163
that combined with the rom OLLO MONSTER gives me awesome battery life
I might have to invest in a new battery. As I said before I've upgraded to a 1800mah battery and using that but the difference is minimal. Also I have CPU spy and it goes into deep sleep quite a bit, awake time however according to betterbatteystats tends to be about 30-40% higher than screen on time. And i'll try the suggested rom after I've given this one a few more days on the undervolting

For BBS, anything over 1% is something that needs to be fixed. Keep in mind you need a good sample time (like over 5hrs)

I've taken a few screenshots of bbs, somehow the kernel wake lock is completely empty which is odd
Also I only need the battery to last about 15h with 3-4h of screen on time to get me through the day!
