i9000 Boot amination. - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help! My first boot screen is showing Galaxy S i9000 instead of Ssmsung Vibrant. How do I get it to say Samsung Vibrant again?

You have to flash a gingerbread bootloader, they're in the dev section...

I have GB bootloader already. If I odin the bootloader while Im on Simply Stock JVT will I have to flash the ROM over?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium

If you want the i900 gone you'll have to flash back to froyo boot loaders, but then you will have rainbows on your 2.3 ROM

Development section, page 2, Custom gingerbread bootloaders for vibrant. Read the op, but flashing bootloaders via odin is verrrry dangerous. Id probly just leave it alone, getting the fail message after flashing will get your heart beating.

I think its best I leave it alone until im ready to do more flashing. It does really bother me though.

If you read the bootloader op there is a jfd file that i think takes the i9000 logo off and back to vibrant. I dont know this for a fact but maybe someone else has done this, and could confirm. Its between gingerbread and froyo on the zip download link. Be sure

Stock out of box being injected with voodoo kernel?

Was just wondering of this was possible. A friend doesn't want anything custom on his vibrant but wants the speed of voodoo. Is it possible?

yes, its possible.
He must root though.
He has to root, and install the clockwork recovery, then using clockwork recovery flash a kernel WITH VOODOO and then hes done.
Make sure to flash the correct kernels per firmware.
like..
most of the kernels you see on dev section are for 2.2+
2.1 kernels are on a thread made by supercurio about VOODOO kernels, im on a phone and cannot search so i'll leave it to you.
Pretty sure you don't need root to flash the appropriate stock+voodoo kernel in Odin via download mode.

Need vibrant bootloaders

Hey i flashed i9000 2.3 bootloaders to fix the recovery and weird screen issue but now i wanna go back... Does anyone know of a firmware that includes the vibrant bootloaders?
thanks

Think stock 2.2 updates the secondary bootloader...pretty sure the sbl.bin or whatever is in the 2.2 odin images. Guess this depends on which ROM you're going to be using?
No idea on the other.

It doesn't brick your phone, just the only thing that can brick it in the event of a bad flash.
Thanks for the info i dont think ill flash them anyway just in case

were you able to go back to stock?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
i can go back to stock firmware without reflashing bootloaders and im preaty sure any rom will work with the i9k bootloaders i just wanted the vibrant ones to try out an aosp rom on the i9k forum but it says you can only get into download mode with 3 buttons so thats why i wanted to change bootloaders
in short i have not gone back to stock bootloaders
Edit: could somone link me to that thread from a while back that fixed hardware locked vibrants?
Here you go...
Both Froyo and Gingerbread Bootloaders for Vibrant... GB Bootloaders based on I9000 but show Vibrant Splash Screen...

Miui rom froyo

Hi I was wondering if someone could point me to a fully working miui froyo rom. If there isn't one then can someone port one from the other galaxy phones or from the nexus one. Thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
You're not going to get any froyo cm or miui roms, only gb. That's just the way it is.
And, GPS doesn't work on froyo cm/miui roms either. Also, all development on froyo cm/miui has ceased across all phones and in their place is the respective gb versions.

The only reason I wanted a froyo build because the gb version installation seems risky and I don't want to Odin or anything. I just want to have a gb rom that doesn't force you to Odin.

There's plenty of Froyo roms around here to pick from, no MIUI or CM7 though. That ships already sailed for those guys.
EDIT: And you really need to know how to Odin. Even when jumping through Froyo roms eventually you'll have to Odin to clear things up.

The Vibrant CM7 installation is now no more risky than any other rom. Very easy to flash. You can get one of the nightlies and flash through rom manager. I would not go above #8 yet though since those have call audio issues that need to be worked out.

I know how to use Odin but I hate how you have to clear up all the internal storage. I find it easier to just flash it through cwm. Will we still have to flash the bootloaders if and when the official 2.3 release comes to the vibrant
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
What? Odin doesn't touch your internel sdcard nor does it touch your external sdcard.
Also, the froyo cm and miui had way less working, and required some Odin to get it working.
As for 2.3 bootloaders, I'm sure you will have to because after hearing revs dissect the i9k gb roms and source, seems some initialization calls have been moved into the bootloader (i.e. gpu initialization has Ben moved to bootloader)

Flash miui without overstock kernel

From a newly rooted eclair 2.1, can I safely flash 2.3 miui rom variants without flashing the overstock kernel 1.5 from Miui Guide stickies assuming I already flashed CWR via ROM Manager?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thats the way ive always done it and ive never had an issue

Yes. You should... Not sure why you wouldn't use the method in my guide though. It's a much quicker process...

Did you Odin GB bootloaders and then Odin JFD or another Rom?
If so the GB bootloaders have three files boot.bin, sbl.in and parm.lfs. parm.lfs has the boot splash image and Odining JFD after installing GB bootloaders will make it show I9000. The fix is to Odin the GB bootloaders again and it will return to say Vibrant.
There is a modded JFD in the OP of the bootloaders thread that doesn't cause the chage in bootsplash.
I'm on ics passion v 10.6 with gb boot loader currently installed. Are you saying I should just install the gb boot loader again? Or should I do something different? Thanks for your help
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Since it's only there for a half a second and it doesn't effect anything you could just leave it and not worry about it. Other wise you need to flash the boot loaders again, which you're playing with fire imo
