[q] config_highmem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well,
I am using a Micromax A70, which according to a video found in Youtube
is BYD W601T, which is also used by chinese company U9mobiles as S320.
According to BYD, the phone has 512mb RAM, and also on U9mobile site (the forum was totally chinese and took a lot of time to translate), the RAM is stated as 512mb. But to me, the phone only shows 256mb.
My question is, whether I have to enable the setting CONFIG_HIGHMEM in the kernel config inorder to use RAM completely (if it has 512mb ram). I found the setting not set in the config.
Or, is the setting irrelevant when it comes to the 2.6.32 kernel and 512mb ram?
If I have to enable the setting, is there a need to recompile the kernel, or can I just replace the config.gz file with a new one?
Thanks.

Wallaby H/W rework - more flash, more RAM ?

Has anybody done any serious upgrading to get more internal memory in Wallaby?
Looking at the System properties I would think that there is just a std. 32MB Intel StrataFlash (likely J3). I know that there are 64MB versions - and since StrataFlash is available only upto 32 MB - there must be extra footprint for another flash.
Say that it is NOT in BGA package, I would solder extra 32MB flash in there.
Also, more SDRAM would be good if it is possible upgrade.
If somebody has an insight, please advise - perhaps less smoke comes out of this thingie...
Yes, I am more into H/W than S/W
//J.Joonas
flash is where the rom is put
a rom have to be made spc to a device to work
so if you device is made for 32mb rom then
there would be no 64mb rom for it
you cant change rom from one type of device to
another

How can I root my Chinese Dual Sim Android (ICS)?

Hi, all I'm new in this forum and I have some problems with my Android mobile phone. Well, my device is a "CHINESE" Android Phone (f*ck!):crying: and for this reason I can't root my device noway. Some weeks ago I connected in debbuging mode my Android to PC using an Universal Android Driver (Universal ADB), well up here. I opened the software Unlockroot (Free) and the software detected at the first my sh*t device. I just clicked in the button: ROOT in the middle of the screen. It begun to work and the line was loading very quicly. Later my phone was restarted and I had just a ROOT device. The reason for I wanted (and I still want) is because my mobile phone only has 200MB for apps and use 100MB for system and others, I tryed deleting davilk-cache, data, others systems files....but when I installed around 5 apps the memory was full and I think: WTF? WTF?...well I see some tutorials about how to win memory, splitting my SD Card, putting one partiton in EXT2 format for Apps and another for Files in FAT32 format. So, it was going so well. I installed the app SD2link and I link all the apps with SD2link...So, I thought: Good, very good, my little friend. But the problems had started. I notice, when I installed a random app from Google Play Store the phone was restared alone, without touching anything. Also it did the same when I wanted to open a installed random app. After a few days the screen rotation stopped working and when I opened an app the devices was restarted like a brick. However, I could fix with a factory wype or factory reset. I never thought that I was a cause of rooting my device...for this reason I unrooted and I went to the shop for change my device and they changed my device for another (new). Later with the new phone in my hand I rooted again with Unlockroot and I had the same problems, so I unroot the new device and I found info about root any android phone with just a click. I found SuperOneClick and that was the worst choice in my life. When the software finished I tryed to turn on my device...I couldn't because it was bricked and I was very nervous, because I had and Math exam and I had in the device my calculator (MathStep XD)...I couldn't turn on, and neither flash the device. The next day I going to special shop technical and then They fix my phone (I don't know how, but now goes well) and now my question:
I tried with all methods to be root: specials for chineses androids, universal root method, SuperOneClick (brick), Unlockroot (free and Pro ver.), Bin4ary Scripts, and others softwares, even manually ROOT with SDK and ADB, but any of these methods goes in my phone. CAN I ROOT MY DEVICE? HOW? Also I need say that I can't do any udapte from SDCard, I can't install anything from Recovery it says: Error. E: failed mount.... and then Installation Aborted. I can't installed Clockwork Mod for Root method too... so now: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

I'm not sure, man. Probably, but I going now to test it. Another thing that I said that later of the brick the phone isnt' the same than before. Also I'm not sure if it is a problem of the little pc of my father (A sh*it of PC: Acer Aspire One) or is cause of mobile phone, because my device connected and discconected alone from USB port every 5seg. or not connect nothing.
Sorry again for my bad english. I'm studying english but in Spain...You can't wait so much.
Thank, bro.

[Q] Please help identifying tablet

2016 UPDATE:
I HAVE IDENTIFIED IT MYSELF: The Mainboard is T733-MAINBOARD-V2.1
Firmware can be downloaded from here:
http://www.needrom.com/download/a13-chipset-t733-mainboard-v2-1-dual-sim-fully-working-and-tested/comment-page-3/#comments
LiveSuite from here:
https://androidmtk.com/download-livesuit-all-versions
Flashing guide here:
https://androidmtk.com/flash-stock-rom-using-livesuit
You will need to install the following first:
1. http://universaladbdriver.com/wp-content/uploads/universaladbdriver_v3.0.zip
2. https://androiddatahost.com/wp-content/uploads/15_Second_ADB_Installer_v1.4.3.zip
After reflash, you will need to install Play store, because Android market cannot connect.
Google Play store from here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/
I'm still looking for recovery.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all, Could you help me identifying a chinese/korean tablet and help getting a custom recovery onto it.
The tablet is bought here in the Philippines as SAMSUNG GALAXY Tab 3, I got it from my GF who swapped her old phone in a market in Manila, for this one - Seller claimed original(as usual).
Model
FCC ID: A3LGTP1000 RATED: 5V=2A
MADE IN KOREA
CE0168
Se photos below
I used SpecDevice to pull all the info I could of the tablet and its in the provided link - I can't post it here or the thread will be too large, so please follow the link http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=f475-9a5c-3a0b-df1d2dfafbec
Now, I know this tablet is NOT original SAMSUNG Tab 3, I have been living in the Philippines long enough to know a fake when I see one - but its damn good copy - Except for a few things:
It has:
Boxchip Allwinner A13 Singlecore 1Ghz
512MB Ram
Storage according to the Partition table APP:
/system: 504MB(463MB used),
/data: 1008MB(494MB used),
/cache: 315MB(5MB used),
/mnt/extsd: 30021(8772MB used) - this is the external SD card of 32MB,
/mnt/sdcard: 1401(172MB used)
adding the storage space up gives 3228MB which would mean this tab has approx. 4GB Rom. According to seller it should have 8GB(so again something fake). In settings>storage it says:
INTERNAL STORAGE:
Total space: 0.98GB - Apps:440MB - Available: 503MB
------------------------------------------------
Then something strange
INTERNAL STORAGE
Total space: 5.63GB - Apps: 110MB - Pictures, videos: 3.40MB - Audio: 3.22MB - Downloads: 1.15MB - Available: 5.48GB
--------------------------------------------------------
And strange again
EXTSD
Total space: 5.63GB - Available: 5.48GB
--------------------------------------------------------
I think this info is from the buildprop and that its fake, but I'm no expert in tablets - so need your help on this one - how to set it correctly?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Something else, this one comes with ICS installed, and in About tablet it says android version 4.2.1 - all that is written on the SpecDevice page, just follow the link above.
What I need from you Guys/Galls is a way to identify this tablet and get help to put custom recovery on it, either CWM or TWRP.
It has stock recovery but it can only be accessed by Settings>Backup and reset> Reboot to recovery - If I try the Power and Vol+ I get tilted green android with red exclamation mark, and I have tried all combinations of buttons that I could find on the net. I need custom recovery before I start modifying it, or there is no way to reflash it, if something goes wrong - Please help me with this

EDIT: Some immidiate problems I could use some help with, the screen size is 800x480 but when in ES file explorer I can't see the full text of pop-up boxes, and have to turn the tablet upside down in order to catch a glimpse of OK or other buttons(to the right). Kind of annoying when having to set /system to R/W.
I think it has to do with the screen itself being 7" but widescreen style, and its not set correctly somewhere. As you can see above in CPU identifier, it says its "software inches: 5.00".
Just found out the screen is 800 x 432 and not 800 x 480 - that could explain why ES File explorer have a problem.
I used this tool: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sturnus.screeninfo
And this tool https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xizz.resolutioninfo which told me that the screen is actually not 7" nor 5.8" as SpecDevice said, but in reality 5.7".
Now, somewhere in the system files something is written wrong - how do I fix it?
This is starting to be a very long thread, so if there is any other info you guys need then just ask
Hope you can help me
With kind regards
JBJ
EDIT: The tablet is pre-rooted, it just needed me to install SuperSU and busybox(Stericsson).
Maybe you can find something here: http://ublaze.ru/forum/topic1232-1860.html It's in Russian, so you'll need something like Google Translate, but seems like a pretty decent list of Allwinner stuff.

Thanx for the quick reply, and the link - unfortunately google translate is horrible to translate from russian to english and I also think we should stay in this thread, so others can find benefit of this - there are alot of theese tabs sold here in the Philippines - but no support.
Please take a look at the EDIT's I made

Hi again, I figured something is wrong with my build.prop or platform.xml so I have attached them here, plus lsmod transcript. In the build.prop there is no line to change the LCD density or resolution.
Could someone take a look at it - please
Remember this is IMM76D ICS version 4.0.4 release 4.2.1(thats what it says), maybe thats why - but what do I know, I'm no expert
Thanx in advance
JBJ
I'd reach out to one of the moderators over at GSM Forums (2nd post) : http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f906/help-firmware-my-t733-allwinner-a13-cortex-a7-1-0mhz-1744680/
ehh, what do you mean by 2nd post? Also, I said that I like to stay in this forum as it would make it easier to someone else who has same tablet - please do that And post any info here;
There are enough trouble finding info scattered across many forums, with links to other forums, that again has links to other forums - this makes it extremely difficult for newbies to find info - I hope you understand my point, and want to continue the help
thanx in advance
JBJ

Thanks for the link, but these tools rarely do something new, they just copy the functions of eachother - basicaslly all the same except for the name. They cannot tell you who is the manufacturer, they can only list what is wriiten in build.prop.

Hi, I don't have the firmware, but i might be able to make a firmware/Rom dump using uberizer - if you then can make the IMG file yourself. But I don't have any storage apace to upload it too. Also I don't have time to look at this now, but will get back to you later on.

[Q] Adapting a ROM to resize applications partition

Hi,
I have buyed since 1 year ago a Huawei G740. Due i think to less owners, there is no custom ROM like cyanogen. Ok for me.
BUT this phone is selled with a stupid internal repartition: 7GB for user and 1GB for applications.
I dont want to use link2SD or other solutions, because i want my phone to be usable without SD card.
I think i understood that it's not like a classical OS (Linux distribution, windows...) and you cant simply resize the partition with tools like Gparted. Right?
You need to adapt your own ROM to set inside the partitions size (with address and offset?) Right?
A new update (this summer) has been released, so i wanted to do it myself and just adapt this .bin to set new partitions size.
do i be in the true way?
I found some explanation on the forum to make a lot of modification in a rom extracted from the phone but nobody speak about size of partitions except for specific phones (not mine) and nothing generic.
Can you please give me links to learn how to modify partitions size of a ROM?
Processor is : Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400 Dual-core 1.2GHz, android version is 4.1.2 (dont know is it matter)
Thank you for answers

I need the "lk.bin" file for devices with similar specs: Mt6572S_00, 5 inch, 512 ram
Hello.
I have an Unusual 50x smartphone. This is a rather small company from Spain, I suppose they are just rebranding chinese smartphones, and this is why I can't find a rom that would work with it. They do not have a stock rom for this device on their website unfortunately.
The specifications are:
Mtk6572S_00, 512 mb ram, 5 inch screen.
Even if some rom does start up, the screen is striped, like really, really striped, the phone reacts on swiping, but the screen is unreadable.
I have narrowed down possible causes of this issue to wrong "lk.bin" file. I've tried multiple roms, like for Cubot C11, Dooge DG300, Zoppo P580, HDC Note 3. None of this works any good, screen is still striped. I've also tried roms for similar devices from this manufactor, with no success.
Does someone have a similar lk.bin file, or a stock rom, that could work? Thank you so much in advance.
Here is a photo of the screen:
Oh, I cannot post links, so just paste it after "imgur.com": d2oebvW
