[Q] Nandroid Restore & baseband change - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I'm wondering if it safe to restore a nandroid backup after changing the baseband and all the stuff
Let me explain: i currently am on Grif_07's CM7 flashed over KS2
What if i back it up, upgrade to KS9 and restore with nandroid?
For one million dollars, after restore:
a) bb stays KS9
b) bb gets back to KS2
c) my ace's future is to be part of a wall
d) BOOM
Funny joke but serious question.

yes,it's safe,happy restoring

CMIIW, if you restore your KS2 Nandroid backup, you will lose KS9 and go back to KS2.
You can try the advance restore options, but I wouldn't bet on it.
(Am I misinterpreting your question? Sorry if I am).

Re: Nandroid backup

Re: Nandroid backup
i would like to flash the froyo. I installed the clockwork and using nandroid to back-up the current rom but stuck in the "back up data...." . Can somebody help?
If you have 2.1 currently, there's no worries for backup because flashing back to 2.1 is as simple as flashing Update.pkg. so hurry and hop on to froyo already

It's a known issue with no fix anticipated for the forseeable future, use MyBackup Pro or Titainium Backup for restoring your data and apps
thanks for your reply
Actually, I think there *IS* a way! I was able to connect to the Recovery via ADB and then run
Code:
nandroid backup
from there! It didn't get stuck like it used to before. I don't remember if I restored it successfully after. You might have to create the MD5 sums yourself with
Code:
md5sum boot.img recovery.img data.img system.img > nandroid.md5
..I'm typing that off the top of my head right now, so it may not be 100% accurate. I'd be interested if others have success with it. Maybe nandroid is usable like this after all, which I would really like.
Let me know if it works for you!

can't do nandroid restore

I am trying to restore to one of the nandroid back ups that I did before. I face with the following messages on recovery:
Checking md5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Error while flashing boot image!
What is my problem?
Thanks in advance
What rom are you currently on and which one are you trying to restore?

Bingo. You can't restore a 2.2.1 backup while on 2.3. You're gonna have to Odin then flash that rom as per first time Im afraid.

Good catch! I didn't know that. I just Odin'ed, can I restore after Odin?
Whenever you leave cm7, you need to odin to jfd.
I have a guide, if needed.

Not sure, But I guess not since you either odined to 2.2 or 2.1 while Heathen's rom is 2.2.1 so try flashing it again then restore if you've THAT much data you don't want to lose and haven't backed up in any other way.

Am trying to restore now. The reason I went back is because I noticed Ti backup this time didn't bring my SMS stuff to CM7. So now I want to install SMS back up and then back them up then go back to CM7... oh boy long way...frustrating

in theory if it's the same BASE rom you should be able to just wipe dalvik and cache and restore but as always, to make sure, I recommend doing a full wipe, i've always come across some sort of problem when not completely wiping...
What they said ^
Also, do a titanium backup first, then after restoring the nandroid, restore your user apps + data so all your installed applications are up to date, but leave system apps and data as is.

[Q] ROM Switching

I'm happy with my current setup on Eclipse, but of course I'm curious about CM7 and CM9. I was wondering, would it be possible to:
-nandroid backup my current eclipse setup
-follow install instructions for CM7/9 or even getting back to stock rooted or any other ROM.
Then, if I choose I prefer Eclipse over CM7/9 whatever, just simply restore my nandroid backup of Eclipse to get back to my current setup? or would I have to go through all the procedures again?
I guess my question boils down to: Does the nandroid backup backup everything as is? Or can I restore between different nandroids on different ROMs without worry?

It will not back up your kernel therefore, make your nandroid. SBF back then root install Cm9. If you want to go back you will have to use ota root keeper take the ota then restore your nandroid to be back on eclipse

if you have any trouble following the instructions given here, let us know.
Ah. Because CM7 and 9 are based on 2.3.4, whereas Eclipse is 2.3.5 based, correct?

Question about Nandroid Backup

I've searched and the answer I get is that it restores the phone back to the original state of when you did the backup. My question is, if I do a nandroid backup when I'm on ROM A, can I restore when I'm on ROM B?
From reading other posts, I take it that if I restore while I'm on B, it will actually put me back on A. Is this correct?
I just hate having to set up my phone again and again after I flash a NEW ROM. I've probably wasted many hours restoring my apps and settings.
Am I understanding this correctly? Can someone enlighten me? Sorry for such a sstupid question.
When you do a nandroid backup its basically taking a snapshot of your OS, settings, call logs so on and so forth that can be restored. Flash a new ROM or soft brick your phone and as long as you can get to clockwork recovery you can restore your phone to the backup and all will be alright.
I do a backup before flashing a new ROM that way if bugs are to much to deal with or I just don't like the new ROM I can go right back to where I was before the flash

Just wipe cache dalvik and data before restoring... U can restore from any other rom. Your phone will be exactly the way it was when you did the back up. We'll not 100%, the only thing that doesn't get backed up and restored is the modem. So if the modem was giving you problems then you will have to re flash the modem that works for you.
