What does the IMEI SV number in About Phone represent? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have both an SGS2 and a GT10.1 and the IMEI SV numbers are different, does it notify the network that one is Tablet only (no voice) or is it something else?
Thanks in advance.

I think it's kind of a ID. Like cars have. Cops can use the number to see if the phone hast been stolen and stuff like that

Each phone is manufacture with a unique IMEI number. It its used to identify that phone when it registers on a network. It can be used by the police to associated the device with a phone account, for example.
I think, however, that there ways to spoof that number on devices

I read somewhere that it is just a software version. I have a Galaxy Note II (AT&T) and my IMEISV shows 03. Some people have said that it is a glitch from Samsung signifying that you have made unauthorized changes (ROM Mods) when you have not. One post said it had to do with his sd card containing something that is triggering this change. He said that he took out his sd card and the modified went away. I took out my sd card and it still shows modified. I then took out both the sim and sd card rebooted and it still said modified.
My phone is rooted. I did that just after I received it. When I got the phone (before rooting) the IMEISV showed 01, but just after I got the phone, my phone did a lot of updates from Samsung and AT&T. It may have changed then. I wish I had remembered to check it then we would know for sure. It stands at 03 now after rooting.
Bottom line, I am inclined to believe it is just a software version because the update upgraded me from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. Maybe so of the more tech savy dudes can set us straight.
Regards to all

The version of the software that was used to 'write' the IMEI to the device.

I have been told your software can be checked by phoning *#1234#

Dumb question, I've no signal locked a phone and the imei sv on the boot loader says 02, any ROM , custom or not reads it as 01. I'm guessing that this is what's preventing my sim from registering the network. I don't want a way or how to do it. Just a confirmation in along the right lines of thinking,
Because no shop, no one on XDA knows wtf is wrong lol. That's the only difference I noticed and this post would really make sense, ALL methods used to flash the modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin would cause an SV 01. Which is the open source fastboot supplied to us, not the official engineering one from the factory.

On my working Lenovo P2 the bootloader says 02, but 01 is what's being displayed in the stock ROM. I can call, text and use the mobile internet. Has to be something else.
(I have another P2 which is broken and I'm trying to fix the signal)

It is the difference of number between IMEI 1 and IMEI 2

The IMEI changed after update ROM!

What is the reason?
my htc touch pro IMEI changed after update ROM(official ROM"like as: RUU_Raphael_HTC_ITA_5.05.408.1_R2_Radio_Signed_Raphael_52.58.25.30_1.11.25.01_Ship.exe")
and then my IMEI changed 17 bits--REMOVED--
when i install any software, the system to prompt the follow information:
"the program is from an unknown publisher.you should install it only if you trust its publisher.do you want to continue?"
I think this is just occasional,so i update ROM again and again.
but the IMEI is "--REMOVED--" all the same!
You probably don't want to post you imei online (maybe that's a fake #; if that's the case, you should say so).
Your IMEI didnt change =/
Maybe for some reason the soft way to see your IMEI is corrupted, but look under your battery, that IMEI is still the same, and that's what matters because if you warranty your phone for some reason IMEI is how they track it. IMEI is basically a serial number for the provider.
^ not true. It is possible to change your IMEI number with certain software. When a call is made the IMEI # is recorded in the provider's billing software. With Rogers for example, this is the case, albeit few reps know how to find this and fewer still care what your IMEI is or isn't.
Not saying whether the OP's IMEI did/didn't change, but the sticker under the battery only shows the IMEI when the phone shipped.
Just like a sticker on the back of a computer may say "windows xp" while its OS is actually "vista"
When you upgrade to a new version (Core) it will add one number to your IMEI only in form. It is still electronically recognized as the same IMEI, so don't worry. what you will find is that the number is the same, but has now an additional digit or 2 in it. This is just like a revision number & will not affect your services at all. This happened when we old Tilt users went from 6.0 to 6.1 & will likely happen again going 6.1 to 6.5 official.
Do you get your IMIE by dialing *#06# ?
yes mate
Imei changed
Hi,
i work for a mobile provider an I changed yesterday my ROM and today I got an Security check on my work and my IMEI changed also, and that was a little problem. Because they have to check my IMEI number, to look that I have the right mobile with me. The problem is, that Security had only the last 4 numbers, but I found out the new added two digit numbers
Cheers
Hmmm...That's what I said above. It is the ROM/Revision number & it gets added to the IMEI. For anything truly querying the IMEI, it is fine. But it seems your setup is querrying the Registry version of the IMEI.
Anytime you upgrade roms, Usually OEM roms, this happens. It started with the first touch & the Kaiser.

If you ran a ROM that had been XIP'd for any reason (such as to make some software that looks to see the OS version to run), this will modify how windows see's the IMEI, however the radio will read it for what it actually is.
This is interesting... when I warranty return my phones to ATT, they ask me to do the *#06# and have me read off the IMEI... Could they tell if I've changed roms via the numbers I read off?
Could it possibly be a secret way to bust us all?

No, no suits, black helicopters and vans unless you start cloning, there are your previous IMEI's on ATT system, they want to validate the problem handset as you have the ability to remove your sim and call them from a working handset, your account is bound to the sim, then there is always the accounts with multiple active sims, they just need the right one for the RMA.

[Q] No Outgoing/Incoming Calls / SMS

my friend gave me SGS II with the following problem:
when dailing the phone just close the call
when dailing to phone its just output busy signal.
1.Phone is not locked to any Carrier (i checked).
2.has bars when inserting Sim Card.
3.Rooted/Custom ROm installed.
4.Phone see the Sim Card Carrier.
5.Mobile Network state is unaviable.
6.Serial Number is unknown
OS : 4.0.3
Thank you
Have you tried turning it on and off again?

Try a different modem. Here is the modem thread!
All are CWM flashable and there are specific modems for Three and Orange available.
well i tried serveral modems and still the same result
if it the phone was decleared as Stolen is it possible the effect
if so can it be fixed?
full wipe and try again
also had the same problem, you probably flashed a rom on your previous rom
or maybe the rom doesnt get your apn's.
try full wipe and flash rom again, for me it did the work
First you need to know where your friend got it from.
1.If its possibly a stolen phone then it may be locked by IMEI by the last carrier used. That makes it completely useless.A phone locked by a carrier once declared stolen can not be fixed.
2.If when flashing the custom ROM the IMEI or EFS folder has been corrupt or wiped then it wont make or receive calls.
Check the IMEI number (*#06#) and make sure its the same as the one behind the battery. If it is and your friend found the phone then it may be locked as a stolen phone.
well the IMEI behind the battery is similar with the phone IMEI..
what do i need to do in order to make the phone to output/input calls?
So basically it sounds like a stolen phone, in which case you can do nothing and you will get no further help from me or this forum.
well thank you ill return it to my friend ..
It has to be the same not similar. If its only similar then its corrupt from a bad flash and can be fixed but if its the same then yes Im afraid as posted above it does sound like a locked stolen device.

[Q] clueless

This is the story. S3 bought in europe. stopped working immediatelly(i think. or maybe after some weeks) after. didnt get fixed service had some warranty issue.
When i say didnt work, i meant the telephone-side of the device it didnt recognise the sim. everything else works fine(even wifi)
I live in greece so i had the phone sent to me here in hopes to get it fixed. but before that i asked for it to be unlocked and my cousin supposedly(he s not really that tech savvy) unlocked it by the carrier.(even gave me the number to be sure everything's ok)
I originaly thought it might be a hardware issue cause the sim wasnt recognized(remember that problem happened on the original carrier its not a matter of lock) but the guy i had went to to fix it said the entire gsm part isnt working so its either a SOFTWARE (thats why i m asking help here) problem or the main board should be replaced.(think he tried to restore it even to original firmware)
After a lot of research here and on google i m kinda lost because so many things seem wrong at the same time.
1.when i type *#7465625# it goes to personalization but below that is blank. then after 2 seconds i get " Unfortunately. the processcom.android.phone has stopped." so i cant get info on whether its locked or not
2.when i type *#06# i get IMEI null / null "ok" ... so i cant see if it has the same as its written under the battery..
3.when i try to press the notification "software update" i get registering device... " attention! Processing failed "ok" "... so i cant even update to a (maybe) working patch
4. The sim it uses is micro sim and i dont have one available at the moment. so i only check the progress by dialling 911.(isnt it valid to assume even without a sim it would still dial?"out of service area")
5.

But i m going to do that when i know more about what i need)
ANY help or information on what is it that i m dealing with would be GREATLY appreciated.

But i have the Imei under the battery and i also have the unlock codes from the original carrier.. is there nothing to be done?
Get a microsim and test.
If fails, you can root and flash Samsung firmware again.
Can use s3 toolkit for above.
Come back after these.
Good luck

No. the IMEI is contained within the EFS Folder which is either missing or corrupt. Only a service centre can repair this. The IMEI number must be programmed into the device in order to connect to the network. This is why you cannot.

Unlocked i527, IMEI Unknown? How Do I Recover?

I recently rooted my i527 then unlocked it for use on T-Mobile, And it was working just fine, Getting Signal and EDGE, So earlier this morning I took out my sim card and rebooted the phone a few times, Changing the APN from epc.tmobile.com to fast.tmobile.com thinking that was going to get me from going from EDGE to 4G or LTE... Yeah Right! Little did I know, It requires a lot more than just changing the APN.. But thats beside the point.
Anyway, While I was taking my sim out and rebooting, After once or twice of doing this, The phone would not come up with T-Mobile signal AT ALL. After a while of just blankness it would pick up What Im guessing is WCDMA signal or something, But not T-Mobile Active signal like it was doing just fine before. So after 20 or so reboots (thinking that was the problem), And looking around, I noticed that the phone is not issuing a IMEI number. Not in settings, and not *#06# either. The IMEI number has been lost. When I go to settings to view it in About Device it just says "Unknown". I'm assuming this is my problem, Once I get the phones IMEI number back, It will pick up T-Mobile signal again.
At the beginning of this, I was simply trying to get high speed data on the device.. Now I can't even make and receive phone calls. :crying: Any help on how to recover the IMEI would be great, and highly appreciated.
Thanks

If you still have the unlock code try reseting the phone using kies... then see if your imei comes back..
Used ODIN to install correct ROM. This might help.
Get your officla ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/

SamMobile still doesn't have AT&T sgh-i527 firmware. Use kies to recover your phone or odin with the posted firmware on this forum. Kies would be the safest.

You will need Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0 installed on your computer Use efs professional on your computer found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
make sure you have root and install busybox on phone. run the EFS Professional exe file from the downloaded file from link i posted there will be a pop up window with three options pick the efs professional tab give it time to connect you will need to give permission on phone for adb if all done right it will say ready on program. across top of the program there will be four tabs click the qualcomm tab now there will be more options click on qualcomm nv tools tab let it connect. now there will be a new window for qualcomm nv tools hit the connect button now you will see your imei at bottom if your imei is not there put it in imei box and then click the write tab. hope this helps.

[Q] Unknown Baseband and IMEI on G850A (AT&T)

Hi,
I got this phone from a friend and I don't know the history of it but is unable to detect any SIM card and the Baseband and IMEI appear as Unknown.
Do you have any idea on how to fix it?. Thanks in advance.
i had the same problem on 850FQ i bought few days earlier.
I digged deeper into the Issue and found out when someone wants to unlock their phone it can be done by 2 ways ONE: with an unlock code which people can buy from many online sites TWO: Using some hardware device i dont know its name. The repair guy told me sometimes a phones IMEI is also changed during the unlocking process and if the process is buggy then it may also damage IMEI AND BASEBAND.
Unknown imei/baseband can also be caused by a damaged "modem chip" or it can be caused by corrupt "EFS AND MODEM" folder while flashing custom roms. But since there is no ROOT and No firmwares available for the "A" model i guess your corrupt baseband is either due to "buggy unlocking" or it is a hardware malfunction. People who have the same problem in F or other models can try restoring factory firmwares with odin (from sammobile) but the folks with "A" Model are out of luck. i sold my phone as a demo unit cus i wasn't able to recover its baseband and imei.
Try a factory reset without simcard inserted, see if the imei comes back. if not you may sell it as a demo unit or keep the device for camera and music needs
