Hey guys, i know im new here so please bare with me. My phone: fascinate. Running on PWGB with tksgb 10/27, vm heap 48, andrel shot ix, auto mem killer.
I try to set the callboost but unable to get it to set up. Im using Better terminal pro.
$ us
$ callboost enable
Plug in 2,0,0,0 "enter"
In-call boost values set.
Mount: permission denied (are you root?)
Boot script could not be installed!
Displaying current setting...
So, that is the message im getting.
I have root explore. Looked under system, etc, init.d (mount r/w)..
No 91callboost or 05zram folders. So i create 2 new folder inside init.d.
One for callboost, one for zram.
Restart,
Tried again
Same result..
What else can i do.. Ive tried all the step From this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279153
From pages 54-57. Ppl tried different thing, i also tried them but still cant get it to work.
Even tried mkdir -p /etc/init.d from terminal.. I get:
Mkdir failed for -p, File exists.
What does that mean??
inside init.d folder i saw the script for my voltage scheduler, or boot setting but i do not see any script(s) for callboost or zram. So i know it did not get created from terminal.
Thanks

Why are you typing "us" ?. You should be typing "su". That's why permission is denied

Thanks for looking out guys.
Feel good to get pass this little issue.
Ive mustve spend 3days searching google for callboost, zram. It was like reading a different languages. Root terminal? I keep thinking, wtf is root terminal or how the hell do i access it.
Youtubed it, someone had a vid of them using the terminal app from market. Thats when it started to make sense.
I hated the low incall volume. Love the rom and kernel though. Now its perfect. Volume is loud again. Zram set!
Running smooth.

keep your phone unlocked, run the command and you'll see the Superuser app pop up. Hit allow.
The end.
Eugene has a init script that will have staten as rw always.. Its an update.zip you flash from cwmod recovery.. If you don't have a lag fix it will flash fine, if you do it will over write it so you have to modify...
His newest rom supports both, maybe you could just kang it..
I currently have his mount script on my phone bc im always editing my services.jar and need that ability..

How do I "Reboot to recovery" and I think I already run the "update.zip" when I rooted the phone. Do I have to download ClockworkMod Reovery or something? Like said I'm new to this so I'm sorry if I'm a nuisance.
Edit: Is it the same thing as this?
http://awdisk.com/2010/01/how-to-reboot-your-motorola-milestone-in-recovery-mode/
Now we can start. Plug your device to your computer and enable the debugging mode of your phone (Go to MENU->SETTINGS->APPLICATIONS->DEVELOPMENT->Enable the “USB debugging”).
Then you need the adb tool that is given with the SDK. (You can find it it the “Tools” directory of the SDK).
Open a command prompt, go to the directory of “adb.exe” and type:
adb.exe devices
You should see your device. If there is no device connected, maybe your phone is not in the “debugging mode” see above. If your device appears, you can now type:
adb.exe -d reboot recovery
Then your phone will reboot in recovery mode and you will see this logo:

You can go to the market and download rom manager and use it to flash a custom recovery...
Flash cwmod recovery from the app
Reboot into cwmod recovery from the app
First thing to do its go to the nandroid option and do a backup (always recommended before changing anything)
Then dl the link from above.. This is a new .zip make sure its on the internal sdcard (the 16gb one).. When you reboot into recovery (from the app like last time) go to flash any zip from sdcard.. Choose the new .zip file you just downloaded.. Your /system should now be rw upon reboot

So can I just go into userinit script and add this to the top...
Code:
show_progress 0.100000 0
show_progress 0.500000 0
delete SYSTEM:bin/playlogos1
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
set_perm 0 1000 0755 SYSTEM:bin/playlogos1
set_perm 0 1000 0755 SYSTEM:bin/playlogosnow
show_progress 0.100000 10
Or was it a diff script we pull from and add to it? Also do I have to put anything after I copy this into the script before the normal script in userinit to signify a pause or finishing one task and starting another?
I saw ;fi placed throughthe script alot and im guessing its afinish point or something to start the next set of commands fresh m???

sorry I wasnt more help
Ok so I added that except to the userinit script, lag fix still works, adb doesnt seem to...
Just ran .zip file through clockwork to overwrite other file then just fix later after adb use was done, still no positive results...
Keeps saying
Cannot stat 'touchwizcalendar.apk' : no such file our directory
And if I open a shell and type the same command i get push: not found
Maybe I am just approaching this all wrong and not getting adb set up right first or something...
Can some one just step me through this crap, I can almost always figure this kind of thing out and this is pissing me off that I can't do a simple command to reinstall a damn calendar apk I want and that's the whole frickin point of having root...
Starting fresh again...
Running a fresh flash of vibrant6, have an up to date busy box, no lag fix activated at this time (but files are there from vibe6 and had it installed in the past before nand restoring.stock w/root and flashing fresh vibe 6), no adb push script installed yet but.zip is in root of sd if needed, running version 1.0.26 of adb on my computer and have apk files pulled from deodexed rom that are desired to be pushed sitting in root of sdcard (files named; "TouchWizCalendar.apk", "TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk", "TouchWizCalculator.apk", "ClockPackage.apk".)
Again guys any help would be appreciated as this is driving me nuts and should be slot easier with how some of you make it sound...

What kind of boot animation.zip? You prob have to flash that thru recovery...
Droid explorer makes install a one click thing... It adds the sdk to your paths and pushing apps just takes a double click.. Prob more things I don't use also..

oh btw permission are verified right? (chmod 755 <scriptname>)
Some sysctl settings, like busybox sysctl -w parameter=value
Code:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
This file never existed, but it's being called from init.rc during the system boot.
Rename your script accordingly and enjoy.
Cheers,
z
AWESOME, thanks so much. I'll try that in just a second...
Nope doesn't work. Would of been nice if you could of report your results after you tried it. (Changed permissions to 777 as well.)
Tried editing init.rc and a post boot script file also at / both ignored and files reverted back to originals on boot (with 1st Jan 1970 as time-stamp).
There is a init file full of random symbols and a few lines of what looks like it should belong in init.rc (mount /system ect), could this be a signed file that reloads the other files on boot or something similar? (Attached to post, had to be zipped cos this forum has a stupid limit on .txt files.)
Seems SE has gone out of its way to stop commands being executed at boot time! I'm running stock ROM. Anyone got any other ideas?
Figured it (Get in!)
I edited /system/etc/hw_config.sh
Look at that init with HTML viewer and scroll down a lot

did you try the bootsnd.sh ??? I don't know if this will work on the shooter, so MAKE A BACKUP. I used to do this on the hero all time. Put this .sh on your sd card no folder (remove the .txt extension), either leave or replace the .mp3 in /system/customize/resource. Also, make sure your ENTIRE filesystem is r/w, then do the same in /system (push the buttons in root exploder)...
In terminal emulator type:
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh (ONLY DO THIS ONE TIME, SERIOUSLY)
reboot
that *should* do it
please report back.

maybe stock ROM doesn't have .sh support? Anybody else paying attention to this with a de-odex custom rom wanna give it a shot please?
I have an unlocked+rooted CM7 Atrix which was working nicely this morning.
I was playing around and decided to install Titanium Backup. I also read somewhere that it needs BusyBox to work better so I decided to install that too.
i tried installing BusyBox in /system/xbin and it gave me an error about BusyBox being already installed
now for some reason I can't seem to do anything in a terminal emulator or adb except "cd" and "su" (Root checker returns success)
I'm getting a "permissin denied" error with basic commands like ls, cp, mv, mount, chmod
any suggestions?
thanks
this is just a shot in the dark but have you tried to fix permissions in cwm... its fixed odd things like that for me sometimes... also cant hurt to clear dalvik cache too jic... that has also helped at times. use a program like root explorer to check if busybox is actually there as well. other then that i have to shrug my shoulders lol

actually I was thinking about doing the fix permissions thing last night but I couldn't remember where I saw the option to do that
Anyways, I did try it just now as well as clearing the dalvik cache and they didn't seem to help.
I also tried root explorer last night (bought it just for this purpose) but it doesn't seem to be pulling up any data, it just hangs at a black screen when I open it and then it force closes.
I have a guess though but I have no way of confirming this since ls and explorers doesn't seem to work.
I used to have "su" in /system/bin as well as a couple of self-written scripts but they don't seem to be there anymore. when I try "/system/bin/su" or any of my scripts it give me the "not found" message
While poking around I then realized that there is a "su" in xbin (this is the one that runs when su is called without it's direct path). I'm guessing this works since root checking detects it.
So, I'm thinking maybe my /system/bin got wiped out when the new stuff (eg su) in xbin got created? Then maybe I don't have proper access to xbin? Like maybe when I installed busy box, it wiped out some of my stuff in /bin and copied/created then in /xbin and failed to set permissions?
Does this sound possible? Also, would it be possible to reflash /bin and /xbin to whatever came with CM7 maybe?
Thanks

Just so you know busybox is included in atrix roms. There was/is no need to install it again.
You could try to push the folders you want from a cm7 zip file. Or you could just reflash cm7 without wiping data/factory resetting.

can someone explain how to use bypasslkm in further detail. i looked through multiple threads but im stilll not getting the handle on it,
Open your terminal emulator on your phone (download one from Google play if you don't have one) open the terminal and type the following commands (Pressing enter to execute each one)
su (sands for switch user, used alone will switch you to the "root" user. Equilivent to Admin in windows)
cd /data/local/temp (cd - change directory, followed by the complete folder path you want to navigate to)
chmod 755 bypasslkm (not going to get too in depth with this one because I could go on for a while with it but "chmod 755" changes the permissions to read, write, execute for the root user and read/execute for everyone else)
. /bypasslkm (. / tells the system to look in the current directory and, in this case, execute bypasslkm)
Hope this helps clear some things up for you!

su
mount -o remount,rw /system
find . -name "bypasslkm" -exec cp {} /data/local/tmp \;
find /data/local/tmp -name "bypasslkm" -type f -exec chmod 755 {} \;
./data/local/tmp/bypasslkm
insmod /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko
exit

Thats not an error. If you had bypasslkm anywhere on your phone, it should now be in /data/local/tmp with the right permissions and should have executed. Make sure you downloaded the bypasslkm binary linked above
Edit: Also just copy and paste the whole script to make things easier

It's still not working. Any ideas? Should I move it directly into /data/local/tmp

I downloaded the binary from above and pasted it directly in data/local/tmp then tried it and it still didn't work :/ what should the permissions on the file be? I'm a noob at this stuff

The permissions should be 755, as Surge said.
If you KNOW it's in /data/local/tmp, then do this in a terminal emulator window:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/bypasslkm
/data/local/tmp/bypasslkm
insmod /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko
mount -o remount,ro /system
exit
If this doesn't work, DO NOT post just "it didn't work". Say what you did, why you think it failed. Capture the output and reply here with it.
Solution to the 755 bypasslkm issue!!!!!

I figured it out! Here is exactly what I did:
after downloading the bypasslkm.bin from the dropbox link, I used ES File Explorer (WITH ROOT ENABLED) to move the bypasslkm file to directly to the data/local/tmp location. NOTE: there are a few places marked "data" and "local" on the phone, so when you open a "data" folder, make sure you find the path in the right order [ i.e. first data, then local, and then tmp]
Using a ROOT FILE EXPLORER app (because ES doesn't have what you will need) go to the bypasslkm file, long press, and select permissions. It will display with permissions are currently set. At the bottom, it SHOULD display the total sum of the permissions selected. Basically, that means by selecting the right boxes, you can change the permissions to 755 !
7 5 5
user group world
r+w+x r+x r+x
4+2+1 4+0+1 4+0+1 = 755
These setting will give you the 755 that you need to pull this off .
When you have the permissions changed to 755, the last step was actually very easy. But if you want to play it safe, then I will tell you the root file browser I specifically used to do the last step.
I used the app Root Browser version 2.2.3 ( i literally googled for any generic root file explorer and this came up )
ok, so when you have the permissions changed, long press on the bypasslkm file.
select "Open With" and then select the option "Open As.."
At the bottom of the options is "script file" select it.
after doing so, select the option "Execute" and... Voila! I immediately regained my WIFI !!!!! \>w</
I hope this guide helped everyone out. I tried to be as specific as possible.

Thanks for the support. Glad I could help. Has your WIFI remained on, though? The solution I posted works, but only for a short amount of time. rebooting the system undoes the work I did and I have to go back into the root browser and execute the file all over again to get wifi.
Can Surge or someone else offer any expertise?
with the permissions changed properly, I tried executing the code, and still not working.
I have safestrap enabled, and I have sound restored. I am currently on android 4.3 from the downgrade provided by Surge. Its rooted.
If I were to upgrade to the rooted version of NC5, would that help fix the wifi issue, or would it carry over?
Any input going forward is appreciated!

It is possible to automate this.
Create a file with the following contents:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
/data/local/tmp/bypasslkm
insmod /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko
exit
Save this file as /system/etc/install-recovery-2.sh.
Make sure that the bypasslkm file is in /data/local/tmp.
Reboot, and you should now have WiFi again.
[Note: this assumes SuperSU has it's custom copy of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh in place. If that's not there, it's still possible to edit /init.rc to add a stanza to run this command.]

I do NOT have supersu's install recovery 2 file in the location you said. I only have the regular install recovery file.
What I should I do? Could I create the file in laptops termial?
The first line of code gave me the error "file not found"

I tried again.
Ok, so I figured out the coding a little bit. Im not used to this, so forgive my ignorance.
I did the code as u typed it. BUT I made a change. Because I kept getting the "file not found " error. I added ".bin" to the end of the bypasslkm code line. It generated a real response. I felt relieved. I went ahead and typed the last line of code.
THEN I was told the file already exists... I have attached a picture of what I got in android Terminal

You should have /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
It will run /system/etc/install-recovery-2.sh if it exists. What I would do is to create the file on your PC, put it onto your SDcard on the PC, then use Root Explorer to put it into place.
The "file exists" error is because you already have the WiFi module installed. That won't happen when this script runs at boot.

Ok. I'll try that tonight.
But I have a few questions
Im basically trying to autostart the wifi module when the phone boots up right? Are there any apps that can accomplish this specific task?
Also about the downgrade in general. Did anyone get their SD card permissions restored after downgrading? I donwgraded to 4.3, rooted the phone, and somehow I STILL cant move apps to the sd card! Im beginning to suspect that thr issue may be with the card itself, which can be fixed with formatting the sd card. But has anyone had any problems with moving apps to the sd card?
Finally, the bug question concerning the wifi issue.
Is this probkem specific only to those with the downgrade? If so, should upgrading to Surge's rooted kitkat (with sd card permissions and tethered enabled) resolve the wifi issue?
I also noticed that I had wifi access when the phone had no sound. Only when I flashed the Non-HLOS bin file did I encounter this wifi issue.
Thanks for the feedback so far, I just need to understand whrre to go from here

I'm sure there are programs that can be set up to run scripts as root during boot; However, that's complicated since you want this to run while the phone is booting, before there's any opportunity to allow SuperSU to ask for permission.

That's a problem that's fixed by an edit to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml, adding a stanza that permits external storage write access.

The need to run the "bypasslkm" program is because of the downgrade. If you go to a clean rooted Kit Kat ROM, it shouldn't have any issues with WiFi being enabled. That may be the easiest way to fix this.
