Okay. Got a new phone and the sd card won't recognize now. Worked once til a reboot then it doesn't show up. Can't mount or unmount. Is there anyway aside from factory rest to get it working?

Before resetting the phone try and see if your computer recognizes the card, and if it does reformat the SD card. If not, return it, you probably got a dud.
It worked before on the old SGSII. But not on the new one. Odd. Bit I s'pose it is possible

It seems like andoid plays best with cards that are in fat32 format with 32bit sectors.
I may be wrong on the sector size. Please correct me if I am. Can't find where I read that.
If you can get the card setup that way and the phone still has issues reading it, it may be the new phone.

I can't get the card to recognize on the computer, I don't have a micro SD adapter though, this was in the phone. But I know it isn't the phones SD slot, as I tried the card outta my photon, worked fine. And tried the bad card in my Photon, and nothing.
So I suspect the card is bad, just not sure how it got messed up. Still strikes me as odd. But stranger things have happened.
Sd cards do have a way of acting up in weird ways.
I would hang onto the card until you get a chance to plug it straight into a pc. Linux is best for being able to read/fix messed up partitions.

I'm gonna buy a micro sd reader and play with it. Thanks for the ideas.

For no apparent reason, my phone just threw up this warning. I'd really rather not have to format it. Oddly enough, I can't access the Disk Management on my laptop. I put the card in an adapter into my computer and it can't seem to read it there at all either. Doesn't even notice it's in there.
Is there any way I can get to the card to scan it and attempt either to fix it or at the very least get my files off of it? Any way, since neither the computer or the phone can access it, I can use the phone to USB access the card on the computer?

That doesn't sound good :/ If you can't get the phone or computer to read it, it might be toast. Have you tried going into recovery and mounting the sd card and see if it will read? What type of card is it? And what rom were/are you running?

had this happen to my after market 8gb class 8 sdcard .. was very upsetting. the tool i used was msdos based but i can't seem to find the name.
a friend recommends using getdataback fat32 as saying he has used it for 8+ yrs.
i've generally tried to stick to main stream name brand sdcards now ..
sorry for the bad news, but hope the tool helps to recover your sdcard data.
Haven't tried the recovery mounting thing yet. Will give it a shot.
Using a Samsung 16gb on stock non rooted.
Also, can anyone show me to a definitive guide as to how to install the Android 1.0 drivers?
Sent from my HTC 3VO using XDA App
Think I got the right driver installed. How would I be able to see the card through fastboot though? I'm a little lost on that one.
I just received a "like new" replacement Motorola Droid Razr MAXX from Verizon. I inserted a brand new San Disk Class 4 32 GB Micro SD card. It immediately said "Preparing SD Card, Checking for errors" which is something my old broken phone was doing. It will show this indefinitely and never actually mount the card.
I then put the card in my computer and it showed up correctly and formatted as FAT32. I was able to copy some test files to it without issue. I put it back in the phone, still doesn't work.
I then put it back in the computer and reformatted it as NTFS, put it back in the phone and finally got the phone to at least acknowledge it's existence. It said that it was an invalid format and prompted a format. I initiated a format which did complete. After the format it showed the same previous message again, "Preparing SD Card, Checking for errors."
I put the card back in the computer and noticed that the phone had changed the card name to "MOT" indicating that it does somehow see it.
The only variables that are out of the ordinary on my phone are that I am have my work email setup with exchange which forces the SD card to be encrypted and I am also running Go Launcher.
I am running the phone totally stock without root. It is running 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.
Is this a known but non-documented hardware/firmware issue or did I just get a bad phone?
Thoughts Please!
Thank You.
Think it's a dud.

I have discovered that the replacement phones were not defective in any way. This problem is 100% caused when I log into my Comcast Business Class hosted exchange activesync email. The Business Class Server has a requirement to Encrypt the SD Card as a security measure. When this occurs it causes the card to never mount. I cannot remember if I tested this issue with a clean SD card or not, but none-the-less it is a problem. There is little documentation of this problem, but I have found a couple of similar complaints. Neither Comcast or Motorola can explain the problem.
Well, i know its not the worst thing that could happen in life but it really does suck big-time.
So i got a card reader for my note 10.1 i figured i could transfer files and pics easier to and from my baby note. So i tried it out and something weird happened. I accidentally plugged the USB end of my note 717 into the input of the card reader that is still plugged into my note tablet. I figured out our quickly and unplugged the cord.....
My note began to have weird issues. It would not turn on. So i grabbed my old captivate and put the sim into it so i can make calls.
Now...fast forward.....
I think my sd card is dead or something. My phone won't boot with it plugged in.
Then ifinally get it started and it reads no pictures or files.....
This is not good since i forgot to turn my picture sync back on after a rom a while back...and even if it was on...it would be syncing to the card.......
Please some one ....tell me i am not screwed...

Sounds like you killed the sd card by plugging it. I've had this happen on external sd's that required a reformat and on us drives that were flat out ruined.

If you can't reformat the sd card in windows, what I do to check if a card is really dead is load an ubuntu cd on my laptop and try to reformat that way.I have revived several supposedly dead cards/usb drives that way.Matter a fact my sister had the same exact prob as you with her card(phone wouldn't boot with it in)I fixed it with ubuntu and she was a very happy camper.
Yep ....
A format too FAT32 should do it ..
Your partitions on the SD are likely wacko ....g
if you have to format it, try using the program Recuva (it's free) to get back any data on that SD card.
Guys I don't know what to do.. My phone is telling me my sd card is damaged and it would like to reformat it but I have allot of stuff on it
its a 64gb micro sdxc sandisc
even my computer is saying the card has an I/O error I'm really hoping there's a way to fix this as I haven't backed up the card.
don't know if this helps either but I dropped my phone last night..worked fine after..then this morning without rebooting it claimed sd card error?

You're probably screwed but...
turn off phone, pull battery, pull SD card and reinsert it. Turn on phone and see what it tells you about the card. If it's still wonky you have to resort to trying to save it on a PC. Good luck but that's why back-up is so important. The card is probably OK but the data might be hosed. Sorry.
Yeah I think I'm screwed there was so much music..like 3 years worth lmao all transferred from my old ass windows 2003 xp

Actually saw this. Worth a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355528
There was a freeware tool I was thinking of, but cannot think of the name. It would fall under data recovery, there are some great software's out there.
I had the same issue once or twice, what I did was boot into my linux box and try to see if it would mount, so I could get the data off. Then format it to ext4. Next I booted into Win7 and formatted it to ntfs. Popped it into my device and it said it had to format the sd for android, lol, and it worked.
I was putting music on my P769 and when I tried playing the new music, it would say it was a unsuppoorted format, it wasnt, it was a mp3. I tried other songs that I knew that would play and none of them worked. I then restarted th app and a song would play but once I tried another song it would do the unsupported format message again. I then restarted the phone, the phone then gave me the message in the notification area saying "Blank SD Card or Unsupported file system." I then tried mounting it, with no avail, it still wont work. I then factory reseted my phone and formated the SD card, and still that same message comes up. Also, before(and after) the restart, I would try to unlock the phone by pressing the power button the screen would start t turn on but automatically shut off, or it would go to a "snow" screen, but grey. Please help I need the SD card because of this phone's microscopic amount of memory!
I forgot to add that I tried the SD card in another phone and I had the same issue...
Get a new SD card. I had similar problems with my 32gb card when I got the phone. Bought a new class 10 16gb card and it works flawlessly.

Mine is a 32gb too... I'm glad I got a good deal on it...
I did hear of other people fixing it... Or just restarting their phone multiple times... But the other problems happened right after... I was thinking that it may have been something malicious?

I got the 32gb card for like $9 on black Friday around the same time I got the phone. It was flaky right from the start, but worked in my laptops card reader. Made me think it was something with the phone. It eventually stopped working in my card reader as well. Pickup a good class 10 card and everything should be fine.

So just so we're clear, can you put the card in an SD card reader and transfer files to it from a PC? Can you play files off of it through an SD card reader to a PC (or another non-Android device)?
I'm far from an expert, but maybe try breaking the card into separate partitions with something like MiniTool Partition Wizard. The card might be formatted in a way that the phone isn't familiar with. There are a few other threads on the forums that can help suggest what kind of partition would be best for your needs.
I have a 32GB SD card, and it took me a long time of messing with this damn phone to get it to do what I wanted. Card would disappear, messages about "insufficient storage", media scanner freezing up, on and on. This phone has been one huge pain in the ass. Right now I am just using a remount script to swap my internal and external, but so far so good.
Ok guys after extensive searching...I'm having the exact same issues. I did more investigating myself. When I removed the 32gb card from the port I noticed the pins in said port were messed up, the last two looked disconnected. After fooling with it for a min I decided to use the card on my tablet to get files from it, unfortunately the tablet didn't recognize the card at all. I'm thinking my phone corrupted the sd card somehow. I have yet to try another card in my phone for fear of messing another up. I'm going to try to insert the original 32gb card and have it reformat like it's asking and see how it goes. If that fails I'm gonna try a lil 2gb card in it. Also, I've contacted LG and am awaiting a return call for a warranty repair because it looks defective, I haven't dropped the phone recently, and just bought the phone in March from Best Buy... I'll keep y'all updated on my progress and wish me luck lol!

I am having this same problem with 2 32gb SanDisk Class 10 32GB cards. They are the red ones that Amazon sells.
Luckily I have a USB adapter for micro-SD cards. I transferred my data to Kingston Class 4 32GB cards.

Alright here's my update, I have the SanDisk Ultra 16gb micro SD HC I u (red and grey), I think my sd card is going out as well, but I'm wondering if there might be more to the problem. Yesterday i took out the card and I placed it in my computer to move some file. It didn't pop up at first, I wiped it and place it back in the PC and it started working. Once done, i place it back in my cell and it was working fine. I went into CWM to flash a backup. I was doing some testing so I flashed two different backups. So today i noticed that the Sd card it not mounting, but when I'm in clockworkmod it is working fine I have rebooted and checked several times, it's mounting and operating on my PC & CWM but not when the phone is on. I'm thinking CWM might have something to do with it, not sure (might be a system restore). I was going from 4.0(ice) to 4.1(jelly) & back to 4.0. I'm currently restoring one of my jelly bean backups to see if the problem is solved.
Update:
my L9 is back on Jelly Bean and the SD card is working, it might have been a corrupted backup (or something went wrong with cwm). Md5 is good, but it's not as accurate as SHA-256 checksum. Y'all might want to check if your SD card is popping up on CWM.
Good info.
this is a problem that occurs when we upgraded from ICS to JB. once I upgraded my d card would not work. So I took it out and formatted it on the computer. Then I partitioned it with a program I have and it worked. JB and ICS having trouble with the sd card. If you go back to ics then don't reformat our you work have tip reformat when you flash jb.
