[Q] Phone doesn't recognize USB internal storage as SD Card - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded to the most recent Batista70 rom, and after that to the CheckROM (from the old Leomar revolution ROM).
I can access the internal SD card in every possible way, except I can't move apps to it. Every time I try it says "Your phone does not have SD card. Insert SD card.", even though in the Manage Applications menu, on the SD Card tab it shows all the apps that can be moved to the card as well as the correct storage underneath.
Debugging is off. It's a fresh install. In the Storage menu, it refers to the internal SD card as "USB storage" and to the external SD card (which I have none) as just SD card.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Use a different rom. For some reason I believe some roms have bugs. I had this same issue with barista hence I moved back to checkrom

Copy files to pc then format the Sd card the move the files to your sd card hope it work !

I installed checkrom 3.0.0 based on XXKJ2, and will now try to install 3.1.1 which is based on XWKJ3.
The strange thing is, even in CWM recovery, I can install zips from the sd card, but it has the option to "install a zip from the internal sd card", and that doesn't work, so I'm afraid even CWM is reading that as the usb storage.

That is strange indeed. Now the only thing left to do I suppose is to reflash via odin before flashing a custom rom.

Format SD Card
Format your SD card, first copy all your files to your PC. Then wipe all data and install a new rom

Just flashed a stock rom, albeit not it's first (which was from July), and the problem persists...
I filed a bug report on the Checkrom bugtracker here: bugtracker. checkrom. com/ view.php?id=31 (can't post links, too new a user)
I'm guessing it's not a problem with their rom anymore, but if they solve it, good for everyone...
It's really strange because I can read the SD card perfectly, and it even shows on the pc when I plug the phone in, but some applications, like camera and microphone can't record on it. The economist magazine accessed it without problem and downloaded into it a couple of issues, so... strange...

[Q] Move/Install App to Internal USB Storage (Not to External SD)

Hi,
Is it possible to move an existing app or install new app to USB Storage (comes along with SGS2) and not to the external SD card (i dont have though as 16 Gb is enough for me )......
When ever i install an app its getting installed in System storage (only 2 GB max available and i already have nearly 1.3 gb filled up there ).......so is it possible to move the stuffs from there to the internal USB STORAGE.........i checked app2sd but seems to be its poitning to the external sd card.....
also, when i went to applications and clicked "Move to SD card" its shwoing as not enough memory......
i have tried searching entore XDA but could find a viable solution.....
@JJEgan: Please do not tell me to search the net/ xda forums as a reply to this question (which u have already given to others http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135233) as i have already searched a lot and tried different apps...but none could give me what i am really looking for.......
Any help on this is much appreciated........
Hmm, when I select Move to SD, it moves it. No problem at all. Puts them on the internal one.
Unreleated but might be helpful

When I moved some of my apps to sdstorage (internal) I did not know that if you do a factory reset it wipes your internal sdstorage (i.e. sdcrad), so make sure you do a backup to computer if you need to factory reset your device.
ATB
Oh wow. Which 'factory reset' function are we talking about in that case? You know, the one through the dialer, or the one in the options menu. I know, they do exactly the same but.. I noticed that if I select wipe data/factory reset in the recovery menu, it does not touch my SD cards at all. Let it be internal or external. Weird huh?
I am not too sure...

The thing is that I keep fiddling with my phone and my internal sdcard got wipe a few times. I know that the dialer will delete your stuff on the internal sdcard, but I think the one on the options menu also delete the sdcard, but I am not 100% sure and dont really want to try again just incase. So unless someone can confirm it better do a backup to PC.

Am i missing something here folks, sorry to hijack this thread i dont wanna start a new one and it's a similar issue i have, when i connect the cable from my phone to the usb on my laptop i cant see my SD card (even after i have unmounted sd card)
what am i doing wrong here, all i wanna do is to copy music and files onto my external SD without having to physically taking the SD card out of the phone.
cheers
Unmount? You must've meant mount. You mean when you select Mount USB from the status bar, the external sd won't show up? What about the internal one, can you access that one?

??
Guys,
Sorry to disturb you in your conversation
but, i think my question is not answered or i didnt understood the replies.....can any one of you pls help me
i am having the same problem as smilingcruel. keeps saying not enough memory. Am i actually trying to save to an external sd and is there a setting i should change? running out of space quick.
Hi.
I have the same problem, but it seems no one has answered the question yet.
Is there any solution ?
Maybe the problem has been addressed in some other thread... thanks in advance for your help.
David
I have the same problem that when I say move to SD it tells me "Failed to move application: Not enough Memory" but when I look on the sd card I see it there.
Also, it seems not all can be moved to the internal sd card. I was hoping to do something like link2sd does but it requires you to repartition the SD card and I'm not how to do that with the internal one.
link2sd rocks for creating links for just about any app on your sd card.
Not sure if this would help. I have been having d same prob previously.
But once i inserted a SD card (regardless of wat d size is), i'd able to send d apps to the internal memory through app2sd. (not d external sd in fact)
No answer yet ?
How can we move our app from internal phone memory ( 2 gb ) to out USB Storage (30 gb internal )
Move to SD option says that "Failed to move application. No SD card"
I have enough memory on my phone (32 bg ) and I don't want to add an external SD card , how can I sole this problem ?
thanks
So there is any solution to install apps on USB Storage? Because when I move them by App2sd to external SD they disappeared after rebot.
I'm using Omega v19.2 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ROM, but probably it's the same problem on stock.
I am having this issue also, but in Jelly Bean.
I used a 4GB SD card to flash my phone with Chameleon ROM (4.1.2 JB) and the SmartROM kernel, when the phone was setup and working I removed the SD card.
Before when I used Resurrection Remix (also 4.1.2 JB) that was not an issue, but then again I had never used a SD card with it.
Now I can not install anything because of lack of space and I can not move any app to the Internal "USB" partition... even though there is 5 GB free.
I did format the entire phone (using CWM Recovery, formatted system, data, etc, etc) before I installed Chameleon.
What gives?
This thread went quiet without a resolution, I have the same issue on 4.1.2, with my internal sd 12gb partition being empty and apps not moving either saying failed or not enough space.
With an external sd card mounted it moves them there, but after a reboot as others mentioned they now longer function.
Any help would be appreciated!
Parition works with CM9 and CM10.2 oddly not sammy 4.1.2

its with all roms its defo my 4gb externalSD
just mounted storage in cwm and its using my external sd card how do i change?
someone must know something?
Go to mount and storage in CWM and check that your sdcard is mounted
I also experienced this.
I tried copying (moving, actually) mp3 from my internal storage into my SD card. I did this through my PC. The folders were moved and there was a progress bar that tells me the copying status. By the way, I was not on the USB Debugging mode. When the process was finished, I was surprised to see that the folders were empty and since I moved the files, the source files were no longer on my SD.
I don't know how and why it happened. Now, I always turn to USB Debugging mode when I copy files into my SD card or when I move files from my internal storage.

[Q] Internal SD damaged - How to rescue? How to fix?

Suddenly I get this error in the notification bar:
Damaged SD Card - SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it.
And the SD card is not mounted. It's the internal one, the USB storage one I guess.
My external SD card works fine and is being mounted.
This is a huge problems since a lot of apps doesn't work when there is no internal SD. Swiftkey can't find it's languange packs, Gallery and many other video/image apps also fail etc.
If I reboot to recovery and to install zip from sdcard, I can see both my internal and external sd card. So recovery seem to be able to mount the internal sd, but android itself does not.
Now, I could format it, but I would like to at least be able to back up before I do, which is a bit of a problem since can't take the card out and use in a card reader and I can't get android to mount and share it either, even though recovery is able to mount the card just fine.
1) Does anybody know why this has happened?
2) Does anybody know how I can backup the contents of the internal sd, even if I can't get android to mount it?
3) Does anybody know how I any other way of fixing this problem?
Thanks in advance!
Rom & Kernel plz? :silly:
Also, Not really sure about this but I have a far reminiscence of having read somewhere that you can actually access your folders through USB from CWM once they are mounted. Please someone confirm this because I may be speaking bull****; otherwise you could try to backup your data from your very same computer.

[Q] SD card not Recognized and wrong amount of storage displayed

Droid X2 on Eclipse 2.3 (now on CM10)
with a 32GB Sandisk (link to: ht tp://goo.gl/ h9Mai (remove spaces))
My phone has become very slow, so i decided to reinstall Eclipse, so I booted into recovery, wiped the data and cache then tried to install Eclipse. within a few seconds, it came up with an error saying that the file was bad. I rebooted the phone and reformatted the SD card, now the internal storage ( in Settings>Storage settings) now only gives me the option to format internal storage and the SD card gives me the option of formatting or mounting the card. There is also a notification saying Preparing internal storage, Checking for errors. I selected the Format SD card and after it finished formating, it now says that the card only has 4.3GB of storage. Any suggestions or Fixes?
The Bootstrap Recovery can read the two memories without any issues, and i did a SBF back to 2.3.4 and had the same issue
I Just installed CM10 and the problem persists, The SD card says insert a sd card for mounting (it is inserted) and the Internal storage says Mount SD card

If it gives you the option to mount the SD card, do so. It's my understanding that after reformatting the SD card you have to mount it for it to be used with your phone.
Unmounted means your SD card is in your phone, but not connected to anything so you can safely remove it. Mounted means your SD card is in your phone AND it is integrated into the phone's system and can be used for data storage.
And possibly adding to your confusion is that Eclipse has a mod called SD card flip-flop, which reverses the naming of your internal storage and external SD card. Check out this link that explains it in depth http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229294
Cyanogen Roms do not use the SD Card flip-flop mod, and they also name the storage locations slightly different than the stock Rom.
Thank you, but as it turns out the SD card it self is not working. I plunged it in to my computer with an SD card adapter and it didn't show up. I assume that the card has become corrupt, so I will be replacing it. Their is one thing that confuses me however, and Is how bootstrap recovery is capable of reading the card, but the phone when booted normally or the computer can not.

And for future knowledge, you cannot flash a ROM over CM10. Theres an issue that CM10 has with flashing ROMs. Other stuff flashes fine. Just not ROMs. So that would explain why you had a problem flashing Eclipse when you were on CM10. The right process is to SBF and start over or restore a nandroid backup of Ice Cream Sandwich or Gingerbread and go from there. On top of that, Eclipse is on 2.3.5 while every other ROM is on 2.3.4. So flashing a 2.3.5 ROM on 2.3.4 will also not work.

[Q] SD Card is partly inaccessible!

I had a problem with my SD card and then I thought I solved it as mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601340 but later I found out that I can't download anything despite being able to browse the net. Then my Titanium Backup wasn't able to perform a routine backup saying "there isn't sufficient space" while there is sufficient space. Swiftkey also began to give the error "unable to load language packs". On the other hand, my file manager "xplore" can still open SD and my PC can access it as normal. Is there a connection between all these problems and is it SD card the main issue? Please help. I have xperia x10 mini rooted running android 2.1 E10i.
I forgot to add that the camera also cannot access SD card saying every time I press camera button "please insert memory card".

is ur rom or kernel custom or only rooted official rom and official kernel?
Android 2.1 is the official rom. Custom roms are usually higher, but thank you. I managed to format SD card but this time from the phone itself. Of course, after copying data to PC. From the phone settings/SD card & phone storage settings, go to Unmount SD card, then Format SD card option is enabled. So you can format it the way your phone likes (don't have to wonder FAT32 or FAT16). This can be better than your computer to format it or even the SD company "SD formatter".
