Factory reset - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone can put my mind at rest. I just sold my Atrix online. Before doing so I did a factory reset, I don't remember if it said erase everything or internal memory but whatever it said I selected it. Phone turned off and restarted at the motoblur sign in screen just like when I got it.
I shipped it out but I never checked that internal memory (downloads folder dcim folder) were actually deleted.
Was everything erased? I had some bank statements, time cards, pay stubs and other things that I don't want in some strangers hands.
The external sd card was not included with the phone, I kept that for myself.
Is there anything I can do now to make sure the data is gone?
Thanks in advance

Well since the atrix sees the internal memory as an SDCARD it might not have been erased, but I could be wrong...

Afaik factory reset does NOT delete the internal memory aka SDCARD. For example I keep different .zips like ROMs or bootanims on my SDCARD (not ext) and they are always still there after a data wipe.

What about using the motoblur online tool to secure the phone and wipe data? That says it wipes downloads and files.

SD CARD

Just recently I noticed that I can not save anything new to my SD card. I can delete something off the card only for it to reappear. Wiped everything reinstalled backups doesn't seem to matter. Any suggestions.

I hate to day it but sounds like you need to reformat the SD card.

I was thinking the same thing. I had been using bootmanager as you know runs different ROMS directly off the card. I can't say if that was the cause but everything is leading that way. For instance, everytime I may need to reboot the phone it automatically boots in bootmanager... long story.

I've heard people having lots of issues with bootmanager. It may be part of your problem as well.

Internal phone storage only showing 2GB...HELP!!

I gave my evo lte to my wife after I got the HTC ONE, before i gave to her i did a factory reset and also wiped the internal storage thru recovery and now its only showing 2GB of storage, how do I get the rest back?
Wipe cache, cache/delvik, data, system, internal, and external. That's what always works for me.

So I will have to wipe everything you said and reflash the rom start from scratch
Look in T/B and see what storage says.
Why does your total b4 apps say 2 gig?
Phone storage is not internal storage, per se. Look down lower, you'll see internal, then external last.

The next one down is the external storage which is fine, it's just the phone storage that that it's not correct after I wiped it

There is something wrong with the vold file that tells the phone which memory is which.
Download this and replace the one you have, in system / etc /
Back up current vold file
Copy and paste there
Set permissions
And reboot

Hope you that helps

[Q] Precautions before SD Swap?

I'm going to clean install Beans 17 and use the sd card swap option; however, I'm trying to figure out what precautions I should take or what I should do to prepare and not lose data. I copied all my card over to my PC.
Should I delete everything on the card now or just let it on there and complete the swap?

As long as you have everything backed up, and there are no instructions telling you to have a empty SD card when you set up Beans with SD swap, you should be fine. I don't think having it full or empty will cause issues either way. Just make sure you read all the instructions and info on SD Swap in Beans thread.

Hey guys, I'm running Beans 17 with sd swap and I've been installing all kinds of apps with no problem but I noticed that the memory is being sucked up from the sd card and not the internal memory where I have 30 gigs. Weird, because without sd swap apps are downloaded into the internal memory and with swap downloaded to external sd where the measly internal memory is now. Kinda thought everything will be downloaded to internal all the time. How is everyone elses downloads going?

I'm wondering and believe I read that it shows apps going to phone memory but are actually going to sd card? I haven't installed enough to find out...

Thats supposed to be how it works. It is supposed to trick your phone into thinking your external is your internal I believe.

Let me clarify. If you go to applications manager, it only shows memory equal to your phone memory; however, for the new user, we'd think it'd show whatever is left on your sd card--now that your sd card is "internal" memory. So, instead of it saying I have 30GB left, it says I have like 1 GB left out of 11...or whatever the total is...
If I go to storage under settings, it shows phone storage as 64 and sd storage as whatever the phone storage amount is.

What I was getting at was that it tricks the phone, and the app market, into installing into the external card by making the external show up as internal to the app that are being installed. Thats my understanding of how it works and seeing as how i have never used it I know nothing of how it shows up just the general principle behind it and why it works the way it does. I may be completely wrong too, thats how I have seen it explained.

SD card not detected?

I have a PNY 32gb sdcard that's been working perfectly since I picked up the S4 in May. This morning there was a message on my phone saying there isn't an sdcard detected. I've tried popping it in and out several times, rebooting, etc. None of that helped. It's not even visible in recovery. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm stumped.
Sometimes sd cards go bad without warning. It's best to keep your important things backed up on your computer. Sounds to me like you need a new card.

Yeah, I guess the obvious next troubleshooting step here is trying a different sdcard (which I don't have now). Just wanted to see if there was a known issue slash easy solution that was out there already.
You can try your sd card in your computer before trashing it. You might be able to get it to work long enough to retrieve your saved files.

BU & replace sd card

I want to replace my current sd card with a larger card but I don't know how to elegantly (& smoothly) lay down everything that was on the old card into the new card. I tried transferring via my computer but that didn't work. I'm sure members have done this, can you please share your 1,2,3...experience?

I just copied my 32gb to a 64gb and all went well.

I backed up my 64gb card and transferred everything to my newer 128gb card, it went fine just took a while.
You can use the old one in another device and use Wi-Fi direct or super beam to do the transfer

Thanks for your input. The phone got so screwed that i will have to back up my data to drop box, and unroot my phone, re-install the factory software, re- format the 128gb card, and reinstall all my stuff. And I still don't know why the phone went haywire so badly. There simply was no good reason. Except maybe the weather was contrary.
