Amazon free app of the day is Quickoffice Pro. Not normally news, but not linked (officially) is the HD version, which is available at this link for free today only:
http://www.amazon.com/Quickoffice-P...1?ie=UTF8&s=mobile-apps&qid=1321261059&sr=1-1
I don't have a honeycomb tablet, but sooner or later ICS will probably hit the touchpad, so anybody else out there with a touchpad should just grab this real quick while its free, normally $20.
It's filtered in CM7 on the touchpad, but I used your link to get it for free for later, thanks very much! If I do get a different HC/ICS tablet it'll be good to have then too!
thanks OP I had grabbed the regular app of the day nice find!
How do you save/download the apt? All I see in Amazon is the ability to save the link for later.
Buy it on your PC at the free price, and it'll be added to your amazon app store account. It'll give you a warning that you don't have a compatible device, just ignore it because it's free anyways.
Then later when ICS hits, you can just download it for free since it's already on your account.
How does this compare to OfficeSuite Pro? I have both of these thanks to Amazon now but haven't had a chance to put them to the test.
how does it compare to Documents To Go (full) ?
Thank you for posting this! I came here looking for this exact bit of info. It didn't dawn on me to go through my PC to get this.

I really need a document editing app for my gtab but they are all so expensive. Has anyone used a solid app with TNT 4.4.0 that they could recommend before I spend 15 bucks on one? Thanks Guys.

To be fair, they're expensive for a reason...
I've purchased Documents ToGo and am very happy. It renders complex documents better than QuickOffice as well, and to me accurate rendering was the most important aspect.
I've had good comments about ThinkFree in the past, but I haven't tried it personally.
+1 on Docs to Go.
It is not cheap for a reason. It does a lot of stuff and does it well.
quick office pro is super effective!!!. XD
I find it the most user friendly for use on a g tab.
QuickOffice Pro
I have been using QuickOffice Pro for about four months now and have zero complaints about it. I would highly recommend it.
As for the version Gojimi got off of the Notion Ink image... since it was bundled with that device I would assume the makers of that tablet and the makers of QuickOffice had a licensing deal and so to use that version on any other tablet smells a bit too much like piracy to me.
If you want developers and companies to keep bringing us great apps and games then we should make every effort to support them with our money.
Just sayin'...
[edit] One thing to note, QuickOffice Pro didn't show up for me in the Market so I had to purchase it on my Droid X and sideload it from there. But, once it is loaded on the gTab you can check for updates within the app and it will initiate a download if one is there.
I have been using QuikOffice and like it.
I see there is a QuickOffice Pro HD on the market - specifically for tablets.
I have tried to download it but get a Parse Error when attempting to install it. Same thing when I attempt to side load it.
Anyone else experience this?
Is Pro HD a Honeycomb only version exclusively for the Xoom?
I have noticed there are many choices for an Office supported app for Android:
Quickoffice
QuickOffice Pro
OfficeSuite
DocumentsToGo
I purchase and used DocumentsToGo on my old Blackberry, but given that I've gone all in for Android, I thought I would ask for opinions and comparisons of the above products and seek recommendations on which works best on the NookColor.
I was also curious about what the 'current' versions are? Which work best with the various versions of Android out there? Currently I run C7 (which is 2.3). I notice there are new versions also coming online (like QuickOffice Pro HD) that require Android 3.0+ So I assume that they will not run on my lessor 2.3 Android.
Ok, enough talk and questions from me.
BTW, I plan on purchasing which ever one that I end up going with, as I do believe in supporting the developers, but since I cannot test run the apps in advance, I really hate purchasing them all just to test them out
Thanks

DocumentsToGo is the best ! hope this helps...
I use Documents to Go. I like it because it links to my Google docs account also.
I am using QuickOffice HD (pulled from Notion Ink)
There is a thread about apps that are pulled from NI which can be used in NC
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934916&highlight=Notion+Ink
I had downloaded and was trying the quickoffice from that link.
Not a bad program, and I actually liked the pdf interface/interaction of it.
I notice that it lists itself as version 1.0.1 - Tablet. Yet when I goto the quickoffice web site, it talks about version 3.0. What is the 'current' version of QO?
I went ahead and picked up the Documents ToGo (for $15) Not a bad price. I understand that its Excel might be more robust than QO, but I do admit that the pdf reader isn't as nice as QO (from initial tests).

thats a good question. I bought quick office hd from the xoom to have a license for quick office hd. I can't install that on the nook, but i feel better running the notion ink version this way. There is an update button in quick office but says there is no update. I am not sure what version the xoom quick office hd reports.
can anyone that has a xoom report what version quick office hd shows?

I did the same thing. I installed 1.0.1 which worked on the NC and liked it, so I bought the official version. Then I realized the official version is Honeycomb only, so I opened a support ticket with the developer. I was told that the HD version only works with Honeycomb and that there is no supported tablet version for the NOOKcolor (or any pre-Honeycomb OS). They issued a refund and I uninstalled 1.0.1, then bought Documents To Go when it went on sale for half off.
That is a sad response from the developers of QO, but I guess I understand. Its always nice to be on the leading edge of the wave, rather than riding the crest. But it makes my decision to purchase documentsToGo even more solid I guess. :<
I joined in the Sony chat today on facebook and they said for current UK users a website will be going live tomorrow where you can get 5 free games, 7 free movies and 6 months music unlimited free ( or something along those lines just in case I got something the wrong way round )
The website in question is www.sony.co.uk/unlimited/tablet
And for new buyers of the tablet they will get a leaflet with it explaining this as well, so they will get it as well
Cheers
Sony
and no they didn't answer my question about root
Thanks. It's working today. got an email for 5 games and 180 days music unlimited and 4 weeks of video unlimited for 5 movies
Does this work for US folk?
it seems this is only for those who bought theirs after the 21st November and for £50 less which is nice. The games are free on the store and so is the music trial but the films you seem to need a voucher for and it wont let you register a date prior to the 21st.
In registration i see only: Spain, Italy, UK, Germany.. what a shame

From the US sony store site, so hopefully this will apply to us too
doesnt work for me
Gutted the way they said on facebook if anybody had bought it before the price cuts they would be eligible, but I guess not
Bought mine in October and tried to change the purchase date but keeps saying invalid serial number, hoping from tomorrow it is open for us early adapters as well and its not a case of ha we have your money, now go away
Just emailed customer support to see what they say as it was implied it would be open to all people who had previously bought the tablet, will update if & when I get a reply or fingers crossed it is open for all of us tomorrow
It looks like it already is on tablet without having to register as free games appear in the play station store, was able to download a 180 day trial app for music unlimted but the video app says update required but cant get it to update... yet and destruction derby wont download... yet
in US got 5 free games
I opened the PS store today, and there was the magic word free beside five of the games available, so far ive downloaded cool borders and destru tion derby with no problems, the others were jet moto 1, hot shots golf2, and medievil, although I thought they were going to do it differently, it looks like im going to be able to download all five aat once, I dont know if everyones came with it, but mine also came out of the box with crash bandicoot, and pinball heros(great game).
I havent tried any of the movies or music downloads yet, I will update with any problems.
I purchased my tablet around oct. 20,2011, & although I thought I had registered when I got it, I hadnt until this week. I also havent checked to see if I actually recieved an email from them either, but im sure I did.

Have a look at the Psxperia project on xperia play forum. The format is the same for both devices, an apk and a data folder, but the native emulator on tablet and on 2.3.4 xperia tablet is blocking the format which worked on it before 2.3.4 firmware. Hope it helps.

I do not know if you guys already know, but until recently did not have such access, but now within the hotmail skydrive, you guys can create and edit office documents like the windows, although with some restrictions ... however I still think the best king polaris office and office, as relates to tools.
I hope you guys have helped
(using chrome beta)
Best office app i've seen is the Softmaker Textmaker mobile beta.
It has almost everything MS office has. Also adanced features like syllabification/correction test. Also it has full keyboard support with copy/paste and selecting text is really easy. The only thing missing is thesaurus but there are enough synonym apps to replace even that.
The best thing: Its still free at the moment as its in final beta status.
google it if you wanna try

I dont think the keyboard is anywhere near the quality of the prime^^ I'd rather buy a Transformer style pad from Asus with win8 instead of MS surface...
TFP is currently the best Tablet keyboard combo that I can sit on the plane with the thing on my lap and type..
that alone will make me stick to the prime, for now.. The office apps for Android about the same for me.. if you really need to work on big spreadsheets nothing really compares to a 20+ inch screen and a proper keyboard.
Or you could just use the "cloud on" app as that is office!

I use Officesuite pro, it supports google drive (cloud). works perfect on the TFP.
cloud on offers the best office experience imho
i've found "cloud on" very usefull.. so.. (after registration at the service) this will be definitely the best office-like program..
Office Suite Pro is on sale right now for $1
I've haven't used it much yet, but seems pretty good

I downloaded the file. Any tips on installation?
Edit: Found the .apk. This is the website if anyone's interested: http://www.softmaker.com/english/download_en.htm
It's not playing nice with my Prime atm. Getting screen artifacts or something on the left side when opening it up. Going to download again.
When checking the comparison page to the other apps, this looks amazing.

Make sure you have 'Unknown Sources' under security settings checked to enable installation of non Play Store apps.
Then simple tap the downloaded apk in the file manager and it will prompt to install.

The last email i got said something like "final beta version" so i guess its rather sooner than later
My download for the free beta version ends the 2nd week in July.
Kingsoft Office. Free. All basics are here for ppt(x), xls(x), doc(x).
I have tried all the office style apps that are available so far on android as I was hoping to have a replacement for office when I am traveling. Polaris office is one of the best but I have had some issues saving with my external SD card and kept losing my work.
I have started using softmaker office and other than not being as smooth for two finger zooming, the features are well above anything else available at the moment.
It is now in 5th beta so imagine it will come out pretty soon. I just wish there was an email system that could handle pstx files and I would be complete
Office apps for prime
I can highly recommend Cloud on. I tried various options, and cloud on is by far the slickest - I also agree that using spreadsheets on anything less than a 20 inch screen is a nightmare.

It appears it's only available on the ipad in the US.
The new app is awesome. It offers many new features and flexability. Only one major problem for preexisting Android users. Now you have to pay to access over the internet while preexisting Apple users do not. http://support-splashtop2.splashtop.com/entries/21825816
*Update*
Seems they have deleted that post (or blocked me one or the other). Now they are offering 1 year free Access Anywhere to preexisting customers. Looks like there are a bunch of people that are upset https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZC52MiJd
*Update 2*
I am satisfied with the resolution offered by Splashtop. Personally I think the added features make it the best remote client for Android.
Does the new app offer any significant changes? I only just got around to trying the one included with the Asus stuff, it's pretty neat.
Yes, usability is greatly improved.

I will if they change it to a "For life" deal, just like what they have for iOS users. Everyone should get onto the app page and give it one star, and post their disapproval all over Splashtop's page until the backlash makes them realize how wrong they were to pull this on us, and how bad this was for their reputation.
Is this year free deal only in the U.S? I don't see it anywhere in the description? In Canada btw.
Edit: see it now, its under any negative review. But honestly they should give us lifetime for free as well

The year free is only if you had previously purchased Splashtop HD or THD. All new users (iOS or Android) have to pay for Access Anywhere. The offer was given in the user reviews on Google Play. It is their response to the backlash of existing customers.
Thank you for your feedback and support. We understand you have bought Splashtop HD. If you can send an email to [email protected] with your Splashtop ID and Gmail address used to purchase Splashtop HD, we will proceed to give you 1-year Anywhere Access Pack for free. Thanks yah I see it now, didn't think to look in the in the reviews. And I own THD so I'm not pleased about having to pay again for this. Already left a review stating this. Thanks though!
Maybe I'm missing something but what is the big difference here?
I have Splashtop THD and the only thing I noticed different is that it offers pinch/zoom.

Yeah! Equal treatment! We have to force them to make the app $2.99 on Android!
I would easily pay $2.99 to get a lifetime subscription like previous iOS customers get.
Instead, I get the app for free but have to pay $.99 per month or $9.99 per year once my free year is up.
Somehow they thought this was a good marketing plan?
They try to give reasons such as how in the iOS app store it was made as a replacement app so they are forced to give lifetime subs to previous customers. How is that now supposed to be OUR problem?

It looks like they are starting to see why people are reacting so adversely. All we want is consistency.
I purchased Splashtop THD, have Splashtop HD that came with my ASUS TF201, and also have Splashtop Mobile purchased through the Amazon app store.
So I emailed them a few days ago, and they just responded saying they are giving me 2 years free. A little strange since some are getting lifetime, others a year, and I'm getting 2 years. But I'm ok with that, there will probably be a new version out before the 2 years is up anyways. So email them personally, they'll give you something.
They gave me lifetime as well. When they also explained that iOS users have to pay to download the app, it made more sense of how in the long run, the costs to both parties should be comparable. It seems that each new version would cost iOS users $$ to download, while our subscriptions guarantee us free downloads of any new versions that are released. It would be better however, if they can fix the problem and use the same exact model for both parties. Overall, I feel they are doing the best they can now with the difficulties presented to them, and hopefully it all get fixed soon.
Where do I find my Splashtop I'D?
