[Q] Korean TAB 10.1 rom question - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a korean galaxy tab 10.1 (M380W).
Do I need special rom or the regular GT7510 roms will work ?
Thanks,
Ron

Moving to Q&A

Anyone has an idea ?
Are there any M380W users here ?

i am having a same device like you, korean version, i may say u should not [even] root your tab nor install CWM recovery, it'll break your recovery, even reinstall stock recovery won't work.
I'm stuck now with my tab that i managed to root, but the Super user app and root permission is unstable, sometime it works, sometime not.
even now i don't have guts to unroot nor install new [shiny] roms from devs team, because the recovery UI had been messed, i can't see a damn line.
oh, and the update package 44mb recently released by samsung wont work, although my tab asks me to update it continuously.
this's a nightmare, it's like the korean version is abandoned.

I've had mine rooted since day 1 and have had no issues. As far as roms and cwm, I wouldn't advise it. There is very little to no development/support for this device, as far as I am able to find.
Root it, get ADW Ex and MarketEnabler. Great device, no major issues and has 3.2.
Good luck.

I got it rooted from the first day, too. CWM recovery seem operate fine, just the screen is messed up like an old tv (noise static...), in fact i did one back up and restore with the CWM recovery with no problem.
Also, is your device unlocked? Mine's still locked and it didn't accept any unlock method publicized by devs team nor through other websites up till now.
beside, tab 10.1 is a great device, easy support outdoor works, activities, fun for entertainments, games,...
just the modding part that scared me, haha~

Mine is and has always been locked.

I have same device and try to root, flash it many times but I can't. As you mentioned, this tab seem to be not compatible with CWM recovery and its screen becomes crazy when I enter CWM recovery. Now, it's very nice to hear you can root it and I appreciate if you can share the way to me. Thank you in advance.

Rooting M380W
I'm currently on 3.2 but I had rooted my device before the update so results may vary.
First, you don't need CWM to root. Just the attached zip file.
Go into Recovery Mode by holding Vol Down + Power for about 10 seconds.
Press Vol Down to toggle between Recovery Mode and Download Mode.
Select Recovery Mode by pressing Vol Up.
Use Vol Up/Down to move through the menu.
Move down to "apply update from /sdcard" and press Power
Browse to where you saved the zip file.
Highlight it and press Power.
You should be rooted on next boot.
Good luck!

^That's technically the way it is to root your tab.
Please inbox me any news about modding around this sexy device, as i'll do the same
The TouchScreenTune, Titanium backup, CWM recovery (with visual problem) work fine on my rooted korean version (SHW-M380K)
Best regard.
p/s: also why do you say your tab is locked and always will be? you mean forever locked, right? any proof? @koe1974

Thank you very much, Koe1974. Finally, I already rooted for my device. I would ask you some more questions:
Can this tab up the custom firmwares (like Overcome) with stock recovery or CWM recovery (by count click)?
How to overclock this tab?
Thank again for your help.

I've just found it and trying to unlock my tab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336659

FYI: It seems the US varients of the tab are getting the 63mb update we got last month. We also recieved a small one on 11/11 which had something to do with the hdmi output, not really sure though. And I just noticed a new one today, 11/13. I see no info about what it is on the samsung mobile site but it's about 10mb.

I did the latest update, EK10, via Kies last night. I managed to grab the full rom from the Kies temp folder before it deleted it. You can get it here.

I cannot connect anymore to kies after my tab updated to 3.2. I already checked update by OTA but it said no update

if you all send me the stock boot.img from your latest rom, i will build a recovery for you. it will be the same as standard recovery that i build for galaxy tab 10.1, from cyanogenmod's (koush) repo.

[Q] root galaxy s2 with kernel bokj2

greetings all,
i have a new phone and unfortunately the phone came with a rom of our service provider t-mobile who but some custom apps witch can be only removed if the phone has been rooted.
of course i did some research on how to root my device but i get stuck and have no idea anymore how to root my device. i made luckily a screen capture.
could please someone help me how to root my device and send me links of file that i need during the root proces.
many thanks in advance.
Those pre-installed apps are part of your firmware, which is branded. If you want to get rid of them, flash one that isn't branded. And if you want your phone rooted too, just go with a custom-ROM.
If you need help with it, tell me what country you live in and what language you want your UI in.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you mean just instal a custom rom using odin?
This depends on your desired outcome.
Do you want a stock ROM, a custom-ROM, CyanogenMod or MIUI?

i want to use cyanogenmod or miui, i have no idea what the difference is between them but it seems to nice.
CyanogenMod is as close as you can get to the "naked" Android. It's like the nexus-series.
MIUI is like a mix of Android and iOS. Very simple, yet powerful and allows a lot of customization.

many thanks for explanation, so in my case i should probably choose for miui, so how do i get it on my phone?
First backup your data. You will have to factory reset your phone. What language is the UI in? I assume Dutch, but I'm not sure.
You can already download Odin and the Siyah-kernel (the tar version).
Edit:
Just checked your profile. ;-)
You can find ether latest MIUI on
www.miui.nl/
Tell me once you have all the files.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i downloaded the Siyah-kernel and also download the miui rom from miui.nl.
so what do i need to do next?
You need either Odin or Heimdall. In your case I'd go with Odin, as it's simpler to use and you won't need it much. So, download Odin and get the drivers working. Close KIES competely, put your phone into download-mode (turn off, hold volume-down & home, then turn it on) and connect it while Odin is running. It should detect your device.
I'll post the further instructions once you got everything working so far.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i am ready
When you are ready with Odin, make sure that Repartition and flash lock are NOT checked.
Auto reboot and f. reset time shall be.
Tick the "PDA" box and select the Siyah tarball. Then hit start.
When the phone reboots immediately hold volume-up and home until you are in ClockWorkMod.
Go to mounts & storage and mount the USB-storage. Put the MIUI-zip-file on your device, then unmount the USB-storage.
After that proceed like this:
Wipe data
Install zip from sd-card and choose your MIUI zip.
Wait till the installation is finished and reboot.
If your phone does not boot, go into ClockWorkMod and install again.

So i want to give you the credits, there your post was my main lead of info to get started. I have the MIUI: Miuinl SGS2-1.12.30 Signed version installed, after i routed the phone through ODIN with: Siyah-v2.6.7. My Baseband version is still the I9100BOKJ1 (no idea what is means), but got it working now. It is a blessing, will thanks on the Miui site as well for this great piece of work. Thanks, and for the other new visitors: it works, just read from the beginning and have patient.

GingerMOD is also very close to pure AOSP. I'm actually considering going to it because it supports TV-Out via MHL, whereas CyanogenMod does not, as far as I know. Could be worth checking out for you.
use another kernel
hi it have worked for me too, but i have a question, could i use another kernel with a stock rom is this possible, im not that smart and have for the first time a smartphone the same as karamanoglu, i just got lucky to got my phone rooted, first i did a hard reset and it got in a loop by rebooting and going to the tmobile logo back and forth, so i got frustrated and decided to root it, but i dont like the custom rom and want it back to the stock rom, but am affraid it will get a brick with my luck. can i use the kernel bokg2 and with the original stock rom from samsung but still rooted and can delete the apps from samsung if i want, sory for the bad english.

[Q] Galaxy Player 4.2 (YP-GI1) - Rooting and ROMs

Hello everybody.
It seems there is no section in XDA forums for the newer Galaxy Player models (e.g. 3.6 and 4.2) so I'm posting here.
As I could understand by reading posts in this section the newer Galaxy Player devices with Android 2.3.6 version still can not be rooted because the vuln which is being exploited in current rooting tools is patched in the newer versions of Android. Is it correct? Any ideas how to root?
Thank you.

Is it legit and will it work with Galaxy Player 4.2? I'm not a power user and can't risk bricking my sister's device, but we would like to root the device and install a CM9 ROM when one becomes available for our Galaxy Player 4.2. Please, give us some advice, what should we do or should we just wait and see..

I don't know if this work as this is using the newest exploit for motorola phones. It would be better to try with a device that can be restored after this but you can try it I don't think it would harm your device if it works with other phones than motorola.
I tried it with my 3.6 (YP-GS1) and it didn't work.

I suggest just sit back and relax a while, there still aren't any DEVs with a 4.2 let alone plans for a CM9 or anything else for the 4.2, give it time, one day a DEV will get one and design an exploit, that will probable involve modding the kernel to be rootable, like had to be done with the 5.0's running 2.3.6 and RJ's kernel for example.
Well thank you friends, I'll wait then.. And how can I promote the creation of a new forum section for 3.6 and 4.2 models (or renaming this one to include them)? I think with a separate section mor devs will be attracted/informed about the new devices to give a try. Thank you.
Glad to see someone started a thread for the Galaxy Player 4.2 :good:
I will appreciate it, too, when a developer at some point gets one of these and plies their skills to a rooting solution. Though I am a long time PC user, this is my first android device. For a reasonable price and without being tied to a service contract, it seems like a carryable solution for audio/video playing, GPS, WiFi to local computers or internet. Slight improvements over the 4.0 include a claimed IPS screen, slightly larger screen size & battery, and front speakers. But less root-friendly. And as I'm sure everyone here agrees, if we bought a device we should be able to own it! Including administrator/root user control if we wish.
Here's a little bit of info I can contribute: accessing Download Mode or Recovery Mode. Samsung's website didn't help as it only linked a user manual for the 4.0. So I searched and tinkered.
First, identifying my device (bought from US website).

UPDATE: A few days ago I'd sent a message to Samsung support, including mention of the User Manual download actually being for the 4.0. Well, I checked again today, just before submitting this post, and I see they did link a 4.2 manual around that time. On page 16 are Recovery Mode instructions that align with what I wrote above.

Well, first if all, I think chrisda1 (our actually pretty reasonable mod) should create a 3.6+4.2 development section, so that they you guys can have an official place to work on this stuff. Maybe I will ask him about it. Secondly, for more advanced users/devs, it should not be TOO hard to mount an image in a loop/extract it with a kitchen, add super user apk+binary, and then flash it (after signing if using the kitchen, if course, so you can flash in stock recovery). I would try that, but I don't have a 4.2. If someone can put up a link to a 4.2 image, I may be able to create a (untested, of course) rooted image for you guys.

[Q] Requesting assistance with CWM recovery

Hey guys and gals (although I suspect mostly guys =|)
I have become a noob. A few years ago I was fully into this with flashing and modding scene with the Huawei ideos 8150 phones, done as a service on a local auction website, mostly as many found they were too slow.
After doing this for about 6 months I dropped it as I went into study, my pc has been formatted numerous times since and I can't for the life of me remember what the Android software is called that directly interacts with the linux subsystem on the phone/device.
Why? I now have a T-mobile Galaxy S Vibrant (SGH-T959) and i've been trying to get CyanogenMod 10.0 onto it.
I have rooted the phone thru SuperOneClick via pc (as Z4root would crash).
I have installed OCLF v2
Android system is curently Froyo 2.2 (krnl 2.6.32.9)
I am able to successfully flash the clockwork mod recovery but please see attachment View attachment 1636948
The phone automatically re-installs the default recovery apk's when the recovery menu is launched. Why?
I have taken a look at alternatives like heimdall and odin to flash the ROM but i'm not at all confident because I've never had a ROM fail to flash, so I'm in-experienced at recovery
I'd really appreciate your help on this - I've done research into why this might be happening, but those cases seemed to be unique down to other factors..
I am not familiar with OCLF v2???
Here is a guide with files etc. The issue you are having is because of froyo more specifically android recovery 3(e). The easiest thing to do IMO is Odin back to stock, that takes care of recovery issue, root again then use the update.zip from this guide.

Hey
OneClickLagFix v2 makes an external ext3 directory for swapfiles and prog access or somehting, it's pretty amazing and it sped up I/O via Quadrant by 1600 points making ythe phone so fast it can't complete the boot animation because it's already loaded
Thanks for that guide too, Imma work thru that one shortly
1) You mean the kernel?
2) Recovery doesn't use apks. It's a binary program that runs without the OS. Apks are used within the Android OS, for example being either apps or components like the status bar.
Visit the CyanogenMod wiki for a full update guide for the Vibrant (there's a link in the nightly thread under "from Samsung stock")

Oh wow, a reply form the mod-god himself . I am honored!
I ended up following a poorly written guide to mod my Vibrant from Android 2.3 to JFD using ODIN. Flashed update.zip which seemed to give me a temporary CWM recovery, next reboot it was back on stock. Tried again and the CWM recovery stuck.
Phone is currently running CyangogenMod 10.1 with gapps-jb-20121212-signed as is running amazingly well.
I realize that I've flashed a nightly build of 10.1 and using it as a daily driver was not recommended, but so far it's flawless with the expcetion that I haven't yet tested GPS and I haven't found how to get Google's own navigation software back. I'm a computer tech who often visits customers homes, so fairly important that it works

Most of the CM work comes from the Galaxy S-line work done by pawitp, and the work done by others in the CyanogenMod team and Gerrit.
You can get Maps from the Play Store.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace Style(Straight Talk) sm-s765c

I have just achieved root with a tool called Towelroot.exe, now I would like to install a custom recovery but my device isn't listed in Rom Manager.
Is it safe to flash recovery from a device that is similar to mine?
How do I go about finding the right recovery so I can do a nandroid backup for my phone. I would also like to flash Cyanogenmod so that I may customize my device.
Any help would be very appreciated.
I'm rooted also!
Same lol I hope soon we have a custom recovery...JB 4.3 is awesome but wanna try KitKat.....since rooted with towelroot I got Xposed framework on mine ?

It's not like my Asus Nexus 7 4.4 Slim Rom that was absolutely easy.
no luck!!!
No luck man I hope someone or developer could come up wit one since we have root access now huh ?

Galaxy Ace Style sm-s765c Stock recovery sucks
Anyone know what my Galaxy Ace Style sm-s765c compares to, I think it's close to the s3 mini except that it has 512MB ram and the s3 mini has a gig I think.
This stock recovery doesn't even have an option to make a backup, what the hell were they thinking. What in the heck would you do if something happpend with your stock os and you needed to restore it or something like that.
I would sure like some help with this, to understand why I just can't throw a recovery that was close to my system onto mine, How bad could it be would it really screw up the booting process? They all boot the same don't they? I would think it would be safe just as long as it's the same os version right?

Is what I did when Towelroot opens you click the Welcome to Towelroot v3 three times then a textbox will appear with some random numbers and the second to the last one is a 4 delete the 4 and put in a 2 and that worked for me.
Hope this helps:cyclops:
That seems to work great. Thanks for your help

I was playing with an app called flashify it let me boot into bootloader mode and this is what it says.
odin mode
product name: sm-s765c
Current binary: Samsung Official
ap swrev s1, t1, r1, a1, p1
write protection enable
would this mean anything? how would you go about disabling write protection?
Something else I was wondering the file system on my Galaxy Ace Style has an extsdcard and an sdcard, they have different contents in both,
Which one is my actuall sdcard? I think it's the extsdcard but I'm not sure.
Edit: Never mind I got it now.
I was able to download the stock recovery 7.5mb and stock kernal 6.1 mb with flashify, I don't know if a programmer could take these files and do something with them or not or if they are even the files I need..
anything yet???
Any success as of yet....
To busy working

No sorry man I need a day off before I can really get anything accomplished
Mon and Tues are days off this week.
Keep in mind though I'm not a programmer so don't get to excited lol.
Have you ever tried the automated cwm recovery builder,
it sucks I don't know how it works but it just ques my files.
The hardest thing about this is trying to figure whats the difference from our phone to others.

Thanks to Ameer Dawood the create of online nandroid availible at google play added our phone to his database, We can now do a full nandroid backup, I don't know how this works without a custom recovery but it does somehow, There should't be any reason Ameer can't help us with a custom recovery,(I will ask).

Hi use towelroot.apk from towelroot.com and tap welcome to towel root 3 times when the box at the bottom comes up change the 1 to a zero so it will look like 1337 0 0 0 4 0 tap make it rain and the device is rooted, reboot the phone first and it will hold root.
Howdy yall...lol. I would like to let you all know I have decompiled the hiddenmenu.apk within the system/app folder and guess what if we can get to these hidden menus it has options to turn off secure settings, however it does require a key.......I just send an email to the samsung dev responsible for handling the keys, will keep you posted also I will post the dialpad codes soon so keep your eyes peeled here.

GT P7500 stuck in bootloop need help

HI, I've been through all the forums before and fixed my tab from stock once before by loading ICS onto it, but now, about 6 months since I fixed it, it is again getting stuck just after the Samsung screen and wont load any more.
I have been through everything I did before to fix, but nothing is working this time. I am new to this but have a VERY general understanding on what to do.
I have flashed with various recoveries, and bootloaders, tried installing the ROMs again, but nothing works.
I am stuck and need help. can anyone give advice?

Okay, I'm no expert but I'll try to help you. What do you have available as "tools"? Recovery, download mode or both?

Thanks. Yes I can still go into recovery and download modes. I've tried running recoveries off Odin, it tells me their successful but it still doesn't work.

Hmm... Sounds slightly familiar with something I had a few days ago. I reflashed the stock 4.0.4 rom with Odin to fix it. Then did a full factory reset with the stock recovery. If you can still access your files when you connect your tab to your computer then this is the time to make a backup of everything you don't want to loose. I copied my nandroid backup back on my tab and it's just the way it was before I messed it up with a bad flash.

I'll give anything a try! I'm not worried about what's on the tab, I've already wiped it several times trying to fix it. So since I had the ics rom on it does that effect reflashing with a stock? I don't mind what rom I'm running just need it to work! Where do I download the stock rom? I have some pretty basic questions. .. So once I download the stock rom, I use Odin (any particular version?) and flash with the file in the pda section? Then reset to factory setting in the recovery mode. .. Is that how u did it?

Yes, download the stock rom from sammobile and flash it with Odin (I used 3.07) and (normally) you're good to go.

Sadly I don't know. I have the gt-p7510 WiFi so I can pretty much flash what I want. If you don't use your 3g on your tab I would be inclined to say yes, flash away. But if you do I would be cautious.

Thank you so much Oliver! My tab is now working with the stock p7510 Rom. I Never used the 3G anyway. really do appreciate the help. I probably would still be downloading random roms and trying to get them to work otherwise!
