Rooting and SMS on the Xoom - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot find a straight answer to this.
Will rooting my Xoom allow me to receive SMS (text messages) to the assigned number that Verizon gave me for this 4G unit?
That is all.
Thanks.

Nobody knows the answer to this?
I find it hard to believe somebody hasn't at least tried this....

Texting to short numbers not working

I'm not sure if this is a Touch Pro specific problem or something with Windows Mobile, or maybe its just my phone (Sprint Touch Pro w/stock ROM). Either way I cannot text to short numbers. What I mean by short numbers is the 5-6 digit numbers that you can text to for contests, info, etc. An example would be texting GOOGLE (466459) or CHA CHA (242242). My local radio has text to win contests every hour where you text to a short number also. My problem is that whenever I send a text I get no reply. By texting CHA CHA they usually text back to tell you they are working on it. Also, texting my radio station gives a send back message also. I never get these anymore and I've never gotten a reply from texting these numbers when I used to before. The messages I send show up in my sent box, but they seem to not really send. I've searched online and this forum but I don't quite know what to search for. Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Google's txt number is 466453, not 466459. Give that a try.

Oops. That's just a typo on my part for the thread. I'm sending the text to the correct number from my phone. This is for any shortened texting number such as TV polls/contests/etc. I can't get this to work at all. Anyone else having similar problems??
help anyone?

Spoof MMS User Agent?

Does anyone know if there's any way to spoof the MMS User Agent on this phone? As a T-Mobile customer, I'm forever stuck with the '120x160' lockdown on received MMS pictures anytime I use an unlocked phone. I've been able to get around this with certain other brands (Nokia, WM), but I haven't come across anything concrete with this phone.
Doing some searching here, I've seen some custom .apk files for specific Android phones (G1, Hero, N1, etc.), but nothing more general.
Can anyone help me with this? I *can* send and receive fine; I simply receive at a tiny size. I've tried using Handcent, the stock app, etc., but I know it's T-Mo's MMS server doing this to me because it doesn't know this model.

[Q] sms from gmail

Hey all. Sorry if this was already been asked before but I couldn't find it anywhere. Not even on google search. It seems like no one ever tried it or something.
Well, my question is, is there a way to send and receive Gmail SMS on phone? There's no way to forward it and it doesn't show up on Gtalk either. I'm asking this because it has international SMS feature that has very low cost for other countries to reply.
Does anyone know any app that can forward this feature from Gmail chat to phone? Even tho my phone support flash and java, it . Is there a work around?
Thank you,

[Q] Hangouts with Integrated Google Voice Sending Multiple SMS per message.

I've been using Google Hangouts to send SMS on my Sprint Note 3 for awhile now with little to no issues. That changed however with the recent Google Voice integration into Hangouts. Now, each time I try to send a text message, the message is received multiple times by the recipient, although I only see it sent once. Occasionally, the recipient will get anywhere from fifteen to twenty instances of the same message.
My Google Voice number is the same as my carrier number, which has never proven to be an issue before, but now I'm wondering if that's the culprit. I've searched all over for an answer to this particular issue, and it seems like I'm in the minority (so far).
Anyone else having a similar problem? It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I'd rather not be blasting out dozens of messages to my contacts if I don't have to.
Thanks.
Same issue

I am having the EXACT same issue as you descibe above.. Using a Note3 on Sprint, until recently it worked without a hitch, now for the past 2-3 weeks, when I send SMS messsages I get people that state they get it up to 40x, when it only shows that it was delivered from my device once.
I am not sure if it is a Google Voice issue, Hangouts issue, Android, Sprint or just a combo of all of the above? If you are able to get a resolution, please let me know!
Thanks,

Tim,
I was perusing around the Google help pages the other day and notices a new disclaimer I had not seen before. It was a short blurb on one of the Hangouts SMS help pages that said something along the lines of "If you're using Google Voice with your Sprint mobile number, do NOT integrate Google Voice with Hangouts. It will cause issues with SMS."
Not the most helpful thing in the world. But I ended up just disabling Voice from my Sprint service altogether. I hated to do it, since I've been using Voice on Sprint for several years now, but seeing as Voice is soon going the way of the Dodo, I figured it won't matter before too long anyway. I was only using Voice for voicemail anyway, so it wasn't a huge transition for me. Depending on how reliant you are on Voice, it might be a bigger problem for you.
At any rate, disconnecting Google Voice from my Sprint number solved the problem... no more spam texts!

Lg G3 possible cloaned? others are receiving sms msgs via my phone number

Hi I'm a Newbie to this Form so please forgive me if this doesn't make any sense. over the last couple months I ave been told and have seen as well that various text msgs have been changed, or sent via my number. for instance "how are you doing" to a "how are you doing a#$$#". When your on the other end of receiving the text you definitely want some answers. Is it possible for the receiver to change my sms msg so it appears it was sent by me and add stuff to it? I tend to believe that sense its not happening with anyone else that this person just trying ruin me.
