I'm picking up a dell streak on Thursday. The problem is that the usb port on the phone is bad. Has anyone replaced this? Or does anyone know of a guide or anything like that? Any help is great.

There is a post in the general area about someone who just dropped their Streak (broken screen) and is going to change phones. You may want to connect.
Ya I changed mine in Singapore. At Mobile Phone repair shop. Cost $80SGD, took them about 2 hours.
Well i had to replace motherboard at the same situation. Wasnt too bad, looked a lot of videos on you tube. 3 hrs of fear was it. Motherboard costed like 140 eur and + shipping.
As this is old post, how did it go?
There are 'charger ports' for the Streak available on eBay for less than $20; they usually warn "soldering is required". I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has done this and how complex it was.

I can’t imagine the answer to this is going to be cheap but does anyone know how much it costs to get the mobo fixed/changed on an X10i outside of warranty? I am in the UK so would like prices from Britain but experiences from any where most welcome. Also any recommendations for a reputable repairer would be good.
At the moment I am getting only one reboot a day so I can live with that but if (when most likely) it gets worse I would like to know my options.
If you don't mine me asking why is it outside of warranty?
As you get 2 years as standard on this handset.
I do not have the receipt as it was bought second hand and I am pretty sure SE require this.
Depends... In Aussie here it would cost like at least 20$ fire a phone repair, which in GB would be like at least 10 dollars. Depends if it is a software problem or hardware problem or software problem. If hardware expect around couple of hundred dollars.

Had a couple of quotes, one firm thinks it is a software issue but I don't think so. Another firm (mobilerepaircentre.com any experience of these gladly welcome) are quoting £52.50. So not to bad - IF they fix it that is.
Guys,
I am not sure if this is good or bad news for me. I talked to Dell rep and said my screen was cracked when i got out of my car with tight jeans on and the phone in the pocket (but i actually dropped it from a foot high) i finally convinced him it is not physical damage.
So he is sending in a replacement on ONE CONDITION: If they find my phone physical damage, then the dell collection guys are going to call me and charge me 250 USD for replacement.
So my Question is:
1) I haven't gave them any credit card info. So how could they charge me as they have my broken phone with them and the replacement with me?
2) I brought it from Dell.com in APril so could they charge my credit card without my authorization for that price if i hesitate to pay?
They asked me to ship the old one back in 2 weeks, so if i delay by 4 weeks, are they going to charge me even if i have a excuse??
They approved my Streak Guys, but i dint want them to ship the replacement yet until i call them back for it. I am out of town so just wanted some bad help from the great GURU's here on XDA..
Any help greatly appreciated..
Thanks,
Raj
They have your credit card information from when you originally purchased the Streak. They will use that to bill you for the replacement Streak if they find physical damage. If you don't send the old Streak back in the time frame they specify, they will bill you for the replacement Streak.

Ok, my streak 5 earpiece is also not working i cant hear anyone unless i am on a speakerphone or headphones. So with this, don't i hold enough water to fight it with my Amex card if they bill it unauthorized?
just looking at all the options and the worst case senario
Thanks,
Raj
You can fight it, but if Dell determines that there is physical damage, you will lose. In agreeing to the exchange, you agreed to Dell's terms and conditions for the exchange. All Dell has to do is send their information to AMEX if you file a chargeback and AMEX will side with them.
Dell's TOS overrides AMEX's TOS.
I broke my Streak 5 yesterday also
In my jeans pocket and I bumped into a table. Simple as that. First phone I have ever broken. Didn't crack the glass, just the LCD underneath.
I want a dual core phone, but the Note isn't out yet, the Prime is really too small for my tastes, the SII doesn't excite me... I don't know. I bought an LCD assembly online and going to try to replace myself. I have replaced several iPhone and HTC screens for clients, so shouldn't be a problem (I hope).
Of course after reading this post, I might want to call Dell mobility and see if they will just send me another.
It doesn't seem like they could tell if there was physical damage unless there is a built in shock sensor or something (I have heard that Apple is planning on putting one in iPhones soon), or if your little fall dented or dinged it. Even then, scuffs could be normal wear and tear I would think...

I did end up calling Dell Mobility and they said the same. They will advance replace my Streak and only charge if they determine it is due to user abuse. I figure at that point I would have to either dispute it or ask for my broken Streak back and replace the screen myself.
If I have to give Dell another $250 for my Streak, I would want something for it, not a freaking refurb.
I've been dealing with Dell the last couple of days to get mine replaced, and had no problems, except they still show "Best Buy" as the official owner of my phone. Apparently there is a separate department that transfers ownership that is closed, and they keep telling me to call back tomorrow, which I do, only to find out that they are still closed...
The call center appears to be in India, and there are apparently some major holidays going on. I can live with that...

Hey, which rom are you guys gonna flash back to before you send it back?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
They both should go back to carrier-branded stock ROMs. How current that ROM is should make no difference.
I think I'm gonna put 1.6 on it, just to play with it.

My exchange went through, they are sending my new Streak. I just flashed the 353 rom for AT&T. No root, no nothing. No fun!

when you get the refurb take the broken screen off your phone put it on the refurb and send that back and keep the good screen on your phone.
Just call your credit card company and tell them you lost your card and would like it cancelled and a new one issued. If you're not poor, you have more than one way to access your money, and can live without a card for a week or two.
Last Month my Dellstreak's Might streak got a crack...As i'm hurry to replace it and quit busy in other works i gave it to a my friend to replace that display....
But problem is that i tried 2-3 displays from dell but he couldn't fixed it ...he told me that my device has different connectors from Dell Streak's displays which are available in market... Kindly guide me where i can fix it in Mumbai (india) or will Dell will give me replacement for it as warranty for it my phone is still valid up to dec 31 2011 as i bought it on 31-Dec-2010 (But on dell site its showing up to oct 2011 while searched by service tag) ....
Not sure where your friend is getting the screens. I have purchased a few from EBAY and everyone has worked just fine for me. See if you can find a local ebay auction.
I'm the same, I've replaced my screen many times and they always work perfectly. Maybe you bought the wrong screen?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
i have already bought 2 screens from Ebay both from China and had no problem with replacing
but if you have warranty from Dell then take your device back to them

I hd visited local carry in service center of dell, but they asked DD of Rs. 10K ($200), for replacement of display, which he'll sent to Dell and thy'll provide me new handset instead of it.
But i doubt as Dell is giving 1yr hardware warranty why are they charging so much big amount for replacement of display which cost around Rs. 5K ($100) on ebay.
Between 2 streaks ive replaced 5 screens. I buy mine on ebay for an average of 50 bucks from hong kong and here in the states ive never had a problem yet. I would suggest otterbox defender case as I oaid less for it than a screen and im sure its paid for itself already good luck

hi all, few weeks back my hp tp left speaker died thinking it might be rom related i flashed but to no luck tried searching for spares but cant find any i found a disassembly guide in ifixit but need a new speaker. have anyone experienced the same problem?
if u bought it during the fire sale u have about a week till (8/20) the one year warranty expires.
http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/touchpad/touchpad/wifi/supportservices/page_en.html
go to palm support and CHAT with them. do not call cuz that cost money.
once u get an RMA they will send a box and take care of Shipping.
then go here to wipe and remove android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
once wiped send it in and your speaker will be fixed, it will take about a week.
Should I take a chance and send my TP in? My charging port is loose but it charges still. Do they send you another refurbished TP or the same one repaired? I have until the 24th.

they will not send ua refurb, they will fix yours and give it back to you. sent it in a month ago for a bad charging port, brand new connector when i got it back. same TP tho.
if u got lucky enough to get a refurb then it likely have abetter battery than u have today. but thats super unlikely if they can just fix it. there is NO risk

Don't wait, it isn't going to get better. Report it now and arrange for it to be repaired while the connecter is still sort of working and you can remove Android.
I had the same problem and was only just able to remove Android before it totally died. I have it back now with a new part fitted and its working fine.
I cant really do that as I got mine from amazon and I'm not located in us shipping it back to usa is not practical for me if only replacement parts are available then I can diy

I'm pretty sure they have service centers internationally... Imo it's worth chatting them up while it's still under warranty and seeing if they can work something out for your situation.

What country are you in ,they fixed mine in the UK.
Hi guys I have done something really bad , just purchased my One a week ago and everything was fine until I had to fly to Cancun mexico for a performance ( I'm a dj for an urban singer ) the problem is that I dropped my phone and broke the LCD , is there anyway to replace it ? This phone is built in a unibody style so I really doubt it but just wanted to make sure.
any help?
I believe your only good option would be to send it into HTC for repair. I remember reading a thread about someone already cracking the screen and it was around $200 or so for repair..
Assuming you do not have insurance on it?

I also just recently dropped mine and since I didn't purchase it thru AT&T (I bought it locally through an indivdual) my AT&T Insurance won't cover it. Since iFixit gave this phone a repair-ability rating of 1 out of 10 - the One is damn near impossible to repair. So, I called HTC and asked for an estimate to repair the cracked LCD. They quoted me a cost of 'up to $180' without looking at it. I sent it in to them, they received it today and now I'm waiting for them to call me with an actual quote. I will post here with my findings if anyone cares to know.
Ok, so HTC quoted me $180.00 to repair the broken LCD. Not too bad, in my opinion. Better than selling a broken device and losing hundreds.
