[Q] How to change default app started in car dock - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to change the default app thats automatically gets started when i plug into the official car dock?
I want to try a different app from the standard voice talk, but i cant find how to chose what app should be used and i dont want to have to manually close voice talk and launch vlingo or whatever i choose to try next.
Also what do people suggest as the best app to use voice control to make a call or send a text etc?
Thanks for your help and advice.

[Q] voice dialing the old way

is there any app that can save predefined voice commands for my contacts like the "stupid"phones did? (like you recored the sample and you have to say something similar to the sample to dial)
because in android voice dialing dowsn't recognise my language and therefore i can't use it. i don't need "where's the nearest restaurant" or similar things, only voice dialing by prerecorded commands
thanks!

You can try this app. It's paid but does exactly what you want.

[Q] Making the contacts app and GV dial with GrooveIP

So I use GrooveIP to make calls on my phone, and I've been using it on the tablet at home - problem is, I hate the way groove manages contacts (it doesnt really). The OTHER problem is that, beacuse I just have a wifi tab, my contacts app and google voice WONT let me dial contacts directly from those apps. Is there any way to make it so that my tablet recognizes groove IP as a phone and lets me dial from GV and the contacts app?
Anyone? =/
Skype? O-o
No, i mean like - the tab 10.1 doesn't recoginze calling as an action - you can't use "call" as a voice action, you cant click on numbers in the contacts app to call someone. I'm trying to find a way around that. >_>;

Currently that's a little challenging :\ I haven't figured a way around that apart from skype. There was a way to add a Phone.apk module that would allow it, but was still WIP

Thats what I figured needed to happen - has there been any progress on that? =/
Actually, to clarify a bit, the effect I'm going for:
In the contacts app included in the tab 10.1, when you open a contact and click on a phone number, nothing happens. I'd like to be able to click on a number and have the option to call it via GrooveIP. ANYTHING to have that kind of functionality would be nice.

Unfortunately GrooveIP hasn't added that feature to enable it as a default/optional choice, Like how when you have messaging, and you download GoSMS, it asks you which you prefer to use. Likewise GrooveIP has to offer that function, or it probably does? But the Phone.apk isn't detected hence it doesn't give the option?
I agree the option the OP speaks of would be nice.. I wote GrooveIP an email asking if this is possible from their end..

[Q] Phone replacement app

I'm looking for a substitute for the phone app.
I know we have the apps like Dialer One and Go Dialer and what not. I've tried them. All these have contacts and the T9 dialer, but once you place the call, it's all the same as before.
What I am looking for is an app that actually replaces the calling screen, the one we get when the call is going on.
The reason is, I want better options for call holding etc.
Is there anything that is available?
Thanks.
Check out Google Voice. When you set it up, it can be configured to handle only your voicemail or handle all calling duties.
I don't think you can do that. The calling screen is built within the phone. The only way to change it is by flashing any themes that you like as the image is within, therefore not something an App can alter.

[REQ] Shortcut - Send BT command to activate Google Now

Hey all,
This is sort of a request/question, so bear with me.
I would like to be able to use my galaxy gear to start Google Now on my phone.
It has the option to choose any installed program to run when I double click the button on the watch. I would like a small program that sends a small command over BT to start Google Now listening. I'm guessing it's possible because in my car, I can press voice dial and it starts Google Now, so the command is out there.
I just wondered if I can side load an app to my watch to replicate this behaviour?
Thanks!

[Q] Alternative SMS app?

any apps out there that offer the same functionality that the stock sms app has on the watch and samsung phones?

What specific functions to which are you referring? I use Hangouts and I can reply to text messages, using Gear Notification Extender.
I use an app called MySMS to sync SMS/MMS messages between my Mac, PC, and iPad. The Android app requires it to be the default messaging app for full functionality. If I set it as default, and attempt to send an SMS through the watch, I get a message saying it cannot send because the Messages app on the phone must be the default.
You can still send text from the watch using Messages if you don't make it default. When the watch asks to change the default app, I choose "Cancel" and it still goes to the next screen. I create new text that way without issues.
Does that work only for sending with the watch's number or for when it's connected via bluetooth or remotely to the phone as well?
Frankly I haven't tried the remote connection. If I sent a text with Bluetooth, it uses my phone's number.
