[Guide][MIUI]Replace MIUI Search with Google Search (Updated 1/30/12) - HTC EVO 3D

Thanks Vanessam and il Duce for the updated Google Search apk
The purpose of this guide is to enable you to press the Search key to bring up Google Search instead of MIUI search, but long-pressing home will still give you Recent Apps. (Simply deleting Sidekick.apk will remove that functionality, that's why we're not going to do it)
Note: Why do I prefer this? For some reason, at least on the EVO 3D, search suggestions do not show up. The search window does not take up the whole screen, and the most annoying part of it all is that the search field is not put in focus when you open the app, meaning you have tap once more to bring up the keyboard. Google Search fixes all this (and seems to be faster, in my opinion).
Stuff You'll Need:
Android Commander: Direct Download (if his site is not loading), More Info
1. So, for starters, delete any trace of Google Search (if you've already installed it) using Android Commander. Make sure it's out of system/app, and out of data/app. Reboot your phone once you do.
2. Then, download this apk (Latest Google Search), navigate to where you downloaded it on the right pane, and click "Installer" as shown:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. A window comes up showing you all the installable apks in the folder you're currently in. Click the checkbox for our Google Search, and then click "Install".
4. In the next window, it will ask you what type of install you want to do. Pick "Install as a system app".
5. It will install the apk.
6. When it is finished, click close, and reboot your phone (<-- IMPORTANT). When it restarts, Google Search will come up when you hit the Search button. I know this works because I've tested it multiple times. It should also (in theory) update just fine whenever Google Search is updated on the Market. Unfortunately, you'll need to do this every time Google Search updates. Fortunately, that doesn't happen too often
Enjoy guys.

Awesome work, as usual.

Unluckily it didn't work with yesterday's google search update.
Works fine repeating the procedure with the new apk.

This is embarrassing. I'm having trouble getting this to work with the latest Google Search.

MIUI should allow you to choose which search you use... they do it with pretty much everything else :/

Using the same process that you used, I got it to work for me. Here's what I did:
I had the latest version of Google Search installed, using my search history and everything. I clicked the vest in Android Commander, which backs up to your PC. Then I uninstalled the app and data using the program. Once it was done, I did exactly what you did, only I used my backed-up APK of the current version. So far, so good! Hope this works for you!

Thread updated with the latest Google Search apk courtesy of il Duce and vanessaem

didnt work for me im on the latest miuiandroid and did everything as said
Never mind removed all permissions for sidekick and got it to work

Is there anyway I can keep the task killer

Yes it works like you described.
thanks a lot

[Q] Android Market icon not there ? help

I need some urgent help .. I bought Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100( with gingerbread) 5 days ago in china .. as i live in china .. unfortunately , i found that there is no Android market icon , and therefore i cannot access market.android.com .. i googled and found there is no way that you can get it installed unless you go to the manufacturer , which i did , only to be disappointed... ( forget help, the customer care people , dont even understand the problem .. ) ... so i downloaded the android market .apk file 3.0.26 from a different source to my computer and then to the device and installed it .. since i am new user , i am not permitter to post outside link but the source is adroid devices dot com (with no spaces)
but now when i open the application it asks the device needs to be registered and would you want to register it .. i click yes and thats when it "exits" the application .. i am not able to do anything with this app ..
I am wondering if anyone can help me here ..
thanks

Its "Play Shop" now no google market....

Yes.. It is.. First some reason Google renamed the Android Market, but Google play.. But everything is saved from when it was Android market. All you need is your Google email and password.

Market has been Updated
The android market has been Updated to google play store. There should now be an icon called Play store on your device.
And if you use "Go Launcher Ex (deutsch)" there is a new update, that will fix the missing (new) icon of the market.
I had some trouble too, but now everything is fine.
BUT now i got this annoying freeze problem again in the market
Here is what i found out about installing Android Market (or Google Play, Changed name but it is the same thing) on my Galaxy S2 i9100G.
I've been searching all around the web to try to fix it.
It is still not working for me, but i got a little bit farther though.
I actually found the hint on a Kindle thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351283
So what i did and what you can try is:
1) Install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
This seems to be the issue, as when you install it you can see the permissions Google requires, and pretty much says the can access ALL the data in your phone. (It would explain the censorship)
2) Install Android Market with any .apk you can find (google play apk also works)
3) Launch Android Market (or google play, anyway you get the update first time after you loggin)
Logging with only my wifi connection in some how didn't work, i had to turn on the APN to get sign in.
I HOW NOW ACCESS TO ANDROID MARKET !!! ON A CHINESE ROM !!!
But not so fast. I have access to the market, but i get an error when downloading an app (error 101). So it is still not working, but getting closer. I sent an e-mail to google to see if they can fix this (seems my account and my device are still not linked). Waiting for the reply...
Cheers

[APP] Updated TrackID : Major UI change [ICS style] No More DRM [lock/unlock bl]

All credits go to lastword112 who figured out the way to get the new update from the Market. Thanks a lot for the original thread.
Now, I give you the bare apk file, install as a normal application.
DOWNLOAD - mirror
* It can also be installed along with the older version that came with the phone, it will not replace it. It works for devices with unlocked bootloaders too.
If you prefer to get the app yourself, directly from the Market, you need to install the app Market Access
(unless you live in Sweden, in which case, this thread is not that useful to you to begin with )
Launch Market Access and set custom country code: 24003.
Then open Market and search for "trackid".
ENJOY!!!

She has already uploaded the apk!! Well you need root access, then download something like market enabler, use 24003 in the set custom option. You can Chrome to phone this link to your device and open it via market. :Market Link for TrackID™
It gives an error when it tries to identify the track.
Error. Try again later. [4009]

Moved it to /system/app, renamed it to trackid.apk, but still no luck with FB Likes.
So, not working for unlocked bootloaders.
EDIT: However, you can like from the TrackID app itself after it successfully recognizes the song.
hope to like music on default music player for the next update. thanks
Facebook Likes stop working after bootloader unlock permanently, nothing you can do about it.

Just have a look in /system/app. I think you can still view this folder even if you're not rooted. (but to move anything OUT of it, you WILL need root)
If the folder contains "SevenEngine.apk", (which is the .apk for Social Hub) then even if it "wasn't pre-installed", then it's there.
That file, once moved out, will remove the "Play Store" entry entirely.
Worked for me. I had it frozen with Titanium Backup before, but this stupid MTC app showed up today. I'm guessing Google updated something on their end to make market links more persistent.
Once I moved SevenEngine.apk out of /system/app, the Russian MTC market entry saying it had an update disappeared.
Of course, if you actually use Social Hub, then this is probably not ideal for you.
EDIT to add: see this post on another thread about this problem. May work for those not rooted. At least, until Market gets re-updated to the current version of "Play Store".

This does indeed work, deleted SevenEngine.apk & now it is no longer asking for an update.
I am on a non-rooted SGS2 and have cleared the MTC Russian update from appearing. All I did was clear the cache for the Play Store via Settings>Applications>Manage applications>Google Play Store>Clear cache.

Download is very easy, what´s your problem? Only if you´re not using PC download may not work.
Just click the circles and select the apk you want.

How do I disable the "fade in" effect, in the huawei music player ?

[How-To] Remove HTClinkifydispatcher.apk to open YouTube links to the YouTube app etc

This should work for all HTC phones with HTClinkifyDispatcher.apk (so basically all HTC phones on 4.0 or 4.1 and a few on 2.3 with most sense-based ROMs) if opening a YouTube link in the browser doesn't give you the option to open it in the native YouTube app, you have HTCLinkifyDispatcher on your phone. This also applies to Play Store links, Maps addresses, and possibly Contact data and phone numbers.
You're going to have to be rooted to do this.
Some custom ROM's already have this removed.
1. First use root explorer or another root browser app to find and delete HTClinkifydispatcher.apk. This can be found in /system/app
2. Download and install a build.prop editor (such as THIS app) from the Play Store. Alternatively, you can just use a root-enabled file browser to edit it in /system
3. Find the line that says "ro.da1.enable". Click on it and change from "true" to "false". In some recent updates, there may be more than one instance of this line. Change every instance of this code to make sure it works fully.
4. Reboot to recovery and clear your cache and wipe dalvik
5. Reboot system and enjoy!
Note: Contrary to popular belief, you do need to delete the .apk from /system/app, or else you may incur problems
This guide is based on the findings of iconeo and steal25, so credits to them
Original thread can be found here (the line it says to add to the build.prop underneath the one we edit shouldn't be necessary for our device)
If you encounter any problems, let me know. If it works for you, please hit thanks for me.
Sweet! This got on the front page of XDA!! Thanks guys!
sick stuff! didn't think there be a revert patch to undo HTC's associations
THIS IS WHY I LOVE XDA.
Now we just have to ask devs to incorporate this into ROM's, shouldn't be hard.

Youtube worked great, back to the good old days. I also tested cell number and email from text message which worked and also phone number from an email in exchange. (all issues people had). Thanks for putting this in one place.
I was running Scott's Clean ROM 4.4 and after I wiped the cache and Dalvik cache and rebooted it told me "Android is upgrading...." and then it went through and said "Optimizing XXX of 247 apps"
Is this normal?
Edit: This definitely fixed the issue I was having with facebook app. Everytime I clicked on a weblink in a post on my timeline, I'd get an error from facebook that said connection error and retry and it never worked. Now it works great!

I'm not sure what the difference is, but the person who posted that said it might notbe required, so I didn't do it and everything worked perfectly fine, so I didn't include it. Maybe on some othe devices it would be necessary but ours is fine without it

Well both of you that can't find it are running Venusaur, so maybe they pre-deleted it from the rom. Try opening a YouTube link and see if it opens in the browser or the native YouTube app

If you just delete the apk, you will be able to open YouTube or Play Store links etc in their native apps, but you won't be able to open links from SMS messages. If you edit the build.prop it will fix that and there's something else that's a minor issue that editing the build.prop fixes but I can't recall what it is.
links in Facebook work without crapping out - but youtube links still ask what I want to open it in and the youtube app isn't an option.
oh well no big deal
