[Q] A seperate forum for SII I9100G? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I happen to have an I9100G, not I9100, and from what I've read, the two hardwares are completely different. 9100 ROMs don't work on 9100G and vice versa. SHould there be another forum for discussions/ROMs/customizations etc. regarding 9100G?

+1.. same here.. i having a i9100G and its difficult because over 90% of s2 community is i9100.. there isn't really that much custom rom for i9100G either

+1 because i9100 roms and kernels don't work on the I9100g and we barely get an answer there, it would be better to have its section, so that we may have more developers concentrating on it hhh

yes...
there should be one, now some of mobiles review sites such as gsmarena added
the i9100G as another phone, i have searched alot about this
and it seems that samsung is selling it as galaxy s ii due the huge demand on the exynos chipset

i'm one of the I9100G's owner and strongly agree with this suggestion.

[Q] Split forums for development?

Hi SGS2 peeps,
First off I'm a epic 4g user, my girl friend bought SGS2 i9100 so I headed to XDA right away.
Looked under SGS2 i9100 there are 2 developments?? Thats confusing I had to read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175660 to understand what exactly the issue is,
Anyways to voice my opinion I DON'T support split at all.
Reason: As a mere new user I don't want to look in two places and decide what to do more than anything else it is confusing.
If any developer so want to then they can easily create their own web portal for e.g. ACSyndicate over at EPIC 4G, they have probably the best ROMs for epic and have their own website, however they still actively post new development over here at XDA as well.
Anyways thats just my view, I don't think it matters to mods. So the question is: Which ROM currently users are favoring? and is there any separate forum (other than XDA) for SGS2 to follow ?
I dont support the same question or topic posted multiple times .
Nor do i support questions posted in the wrong forum .
jje
Even I don't like duplicate questions but if above mentioned thread was not closed I would have replied to that only.
Well in any case if this thread is so much bothering, moderators can delete / move it, I'm pretty sure they can do this much after going all the way to split the forum.

Devs needed, for porting ics4.0 to samsung galaxy fit s5670

Hi everyone,
I am a galaxy fit s5670 user, running android 2.3.4
Unfortunately, samsung won't be officially releasing ics for my device...
But the whole of galaxy fit users on xda are really hoping that some devs would try and port this for our device...we had personally contacted a lot of devs for this, but none seem to be up for the challenge...
Another phone, samsung galaxy min s5570, which comes really close to our device in terms of hardware has devs attempting it, but the few devs we have for our device are busy due to their own reasons...
So, I want to ask all the knowledgeable devs out there, can you PLEASE port this for our device???
You will also find many testers for your alpha and beta version of the rom, who would readily take the risk, and give you feedback/bug reports also...
Also, even if you can just port some other roms, that would also be appreciated...
Head on over to the device forum and make an announcement, if you are willing to attempt this poet!!!
Help in making android an enjoyable experience for all...merry christmas, in advance

Sorry didn't know about that...thought that it should come under software development coz we needed devs...so thank you for moving it to the correct sub-forum...
Umm, on a different note, are you a dev???
And, ppl have started trying to port ics to my device...but still others are encouraged to make/port roms for this device...
m with you
Just look at the overwhelming positive response that this thread has received so far...

[Q] Best android phone for new developers?

Hey, Im pretty new to this forum so please be gentle!
I have made a search on the forum a few times, and had a look if I could see this specific questions posted anywhere else, and I couldnt. If anyone does see this, please feel free to link me and I will read all the posts.
I did read through the forum discussion of Galaxy S2 V Galaxy Nexus, but I just had a particular question.
I want a new Android phone, and I like the look of both of these (slightly prefere the GS2, as it has expandable storage).
Basically, I am a student studying Software Engineering and we are working on Java. I want to be more employable and teach myself more, and I enjoy programming so...
I basically want the best phone for someone who wants to develop android apps, and just wondered what everyones suggestion here would be.
If there are different phones to the ones I have suggestion, please tell me.
Thanks in advanced for all your help!
Dan
Easy. Three words. Samsung Galaxy Nexus! It IS a developer phone, and it also has a large dev community already. I can promise you it will not be a bad decision.

Thanks for the answer!
What exactly do you mean by a developer phone? Because its stock android?
this phone is maintained by google. this is why is a dev phone ;-)
Dev 1 should be the best for begginers, GNexus should be best for whole devs. But because of density and ICS-GB-FY uncompability, you should get more than 1 phone

Id love to, but I can only afford one. Galaxy S 2 is easily in budget and is 32gig, where as the Nexus isnt and is only 16gig But I imagine most people would agree its better for devs...
Edit: Dev 1 says its been replaces bu the Nexus series...so guess that answers my question
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

New "Development" Threads

Why are all of the sudden so many roms getting "deved" thanks to the flashaholics tool? Maybe it is just me, but I don't see the point in creating these threads when the flashaholics tool already has a thread and is super simple to use. I am just tired of people almost passing themselves as developers when all they have done is used an amazing tool given to us by ktoonsez.
Maybe I am the only one, but I am tired of these suedo-devs that have popped up this week. Ultimately running a hellraising utility on I-9100 roms does not deserve a new thread everytime it happens in my book and it is rather annoying to see all these threads popping up.
I assume that all of the threads that used flashaholics gave credit to the original rom developer and ktoonsez? If so of isn't a problem with me.

As long as they give the proper credits to devs, i dont see any problem sharing hellraised roms.
This community is based on sharing, let them share the way they want to. In the end its better than nothing

I agree, but it lessens the effort put forth by real devs. It took me nearly 20 solid hours of work to make my first ROM. I just think we should have a thread dedicated to "hellraised" ROMs and not clog up the dev forum where real ROMs should shine.
This is something that cropped up in the Infuse forums too, however it took a LOT longer for it to happen here than over there.
I think we may need to move to an approach like the I9100 forums - "original" development, and development.
The difference:
Hellraising another ROM that was not created by you is not by any means "original" - for the convenience of users it makes sense to offer these pre-integrated experiences, however, I think that these should be separated from actual original development, where the person releasing the ROM has started from a stock firmware base (whether I9100 or I777 stock firmware) and made their own modifications.
e.g.:
An I9100 firmware author Hellraises and releases here - they are the original developer of the firmware, so it is "original" even if it might not have met the I9100 forums' criteria of "original"
Someone deodexes and modifies a stock firmware - that's "original"
Someone Hellraises another person's firmware from the I9100 forums - not by any means "original"
Like that idea.
They should all put something in title that says flashaholic tool.. Some did that already.

i'm on the fence about this.
On one hand, those threads are not necessary because I can use the flashaholics tool myself to flash those ROMs. On the other hand, that work is already done and it makes it that much easier to flash (this is mainly good for the newbs that dont feel comfortable using those tools and also good for the lazy people that know how to use the tool but dont feel like doing it themselves). As long as the OP gives the proper credit, I dont see a problem with it.
Those threads also create a place to talk about bugs related to the i777 however its not like anyone can fix them because the original dev is not monitoring that thread.
i'm not sure if a separate section for "original development" is really necessary but I can see why it might help.

I really like this idea, it addresses my real concern of these hellraised threads clogging up actual dev space, as well as making it more obvious that the OP wasn't directly involved in development for it.

This is kind of how I feel about it. As others stated, I don't have a major problem when proper credit is given. In part, I don't like the idea of a hellraised rom justifying a new thread, but on the other hand, it exposes me to a rom I might not have seen otherwise.
I think it would be better if there was a subforum for hellraised roms and nonoriginal work (i.e. the script threads or mod ports), and actual development (the OP is the actual creator of what's being shared).
Dont worry Guys, this is being delt with as we speak. All Hellraised and Flashaholic roms will be collected in one thread instead of having multiple threads.

This is the i777 forum. I dont see the need to have 14 i9100 hellraised threads. Its a good idea to have these hellraised roms so people can flash and try them, but we think its best to have them in one place instead of cluttering up the Dev forum.

I like Entropys idea. Better to have a sub forum. Not throw em all in one thread.

That completely addresses the reason I opened this thread, thank you and please close this thread since there is no longer a need for it to be open since you are already dealing with the issue.

While this works well for the i9100 guys, we wont/dont have that many hellraised roms to warrant its own forum. The reason it works so well in the i9100 forums is because they have a lot going for original development (people creating/tweaking/maximizing firmwares) and the general development. Here we wont have too much going on once those roms are hellraised because they are already tweaked to begin with... so instead of having a separate forum, a single thread is going to be created to house all of the hellraised roms and then issues/questions can be asked/answered in that thread.
Also, I dont like the idea of having a separate i9100 forum under the i777 forum. For that matter, they can go post in the original i9100 thread.

I'm curious how you would keep that "hellraised roms" thread organized? Would you dedicate one person to update the first post for each new hellraised rom? Scanning through pages and pages, is not really ideal if you want to find a download link......just curious.

[Q] Can replace i9305 motherboard with i9300? Please help!!

Hello,
and thank you for taking your time to look in this thread. first, moderators, please move the thread if this is not the correct section and second, I searched a lot on google but all there is replacing lcd or trying to get i9305 motherboard into a i9300.
I have a i9305 model and it got heavy fall from my hand and I took it to samsung and they said it needs a motherboard replacement as it has cracks on several spots. and they said i9305 motherboard would cost around 280$ as of right now, I cant afford that much amount and while I was looking for it for some bargain, I saw there are lot of i9300 motherboards for around 120$ on ebay and other retailers. so as far as I know, most of things are same in these 2 models except for motherboard and antenna. so I thought of trying to minimize the cost by replacing i9305 with i9300 motherboard. and I seek advice on is this possible and what else would be needed??
again thank you, and help me please.

Yes sir, I have been using xda for lots of reading and I know the rules. I saw those threads and I have read each of them.
first google search brings is replacing about display. and again front panel.and then about upgrading s3 to s3 LTE. and then there is only one thread identical, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451777, but it only has 2 3 replys of doubts. So thats why I posted again. Sorry if its against rules. so if you think it is aginst, please close this thread. or I really hope for some help to get a i9300 motherboard into i9305 casing. thank you for taking a look.
