[Q] Should I root my Amaze or not?? - HTC Amaze 4G

I'm new to xda, but I've been rooting android phones for over a year. My last phone
was a myTouch slide, which got completly screwed up after like 6 months after I rooted
it. Now I have the Amaze, I know how to root it, but I'm afraid the same thing will happen.
Thanks in advance

Just follow directions...the slide is a PITA to root. The Amaze is EASY to root and keep clean. Just do it.

Mhm, i'll think about it. If i do it, i'll probably root it after the ICS update comes. And i dont want to do it right now because there arent that much roms which is what i want
Sent from my Amaze with le xda app

Quiksense is awesome.
If only for the battery life.

As is Aqsenseless, which I am running. I would say heck yes, but I've been doing it for a while. The flexibility a rooted phone gives you is awesome.

Mhm i think that what i want most is a rom that has Sense 3.5 with the beats audio. Ahhh i too indiscisive!!! I want to root it but at the same time i dont

QUIKSENSE 1.5 has sense 3.5.

probably you need to go thru the Hard Method to get the recovery mod work on your phone. i only have a canadian telus amaze 4g and only succeeded in that way.

No worries. Once my trusty G1 died, I stoopidly bought the mt3gs...what a F*&^%NG nightmare that was. Lucky for us, most new phones are pretty easy to get into and flash custom recovery. QuikSense is AWESOME for battery life, and I am sure there will be many more kick-ass roms/kernals/radios in the next 6 months.

An android without root is insane in my opinion.
These devs nowadays are porting the entire world into phones now have some fun with it.

im using xboarders amazing sense 1.5 and my battery lasts 2 days now lol, this is my first droid coming from way backberry and i have no regrets, thanks to all the devs and their work making these roms. I cant wait for and ICS one!!

I held off for a while, but now that I have my launcher pro back and I can hide all the junk from the menu, I'm happy I've done it.
There are a few niggling problems with the roms out there now though which make it kind of irritating, but I'm hoping that will work out soon, and i still like it better than sense.

If I buy a phone with the pure Google experience then I wouldn't root.
I am coming from the nexus one so the first thing I did with the amaze was to unlock the bootloader then I rooted. The reason why is I do not like the fancy sense UI. I prefer pure android. I also like the cyanagenmod roms. For now I am using the beastmod and have very little sense UI artifacts.

It's not since HTC aren't fully cooperating with our definition of open source. They refuse to release the source for the TI wifi drivers so it makes it very difficult to compile custom kernels.
AND
We can't get s-off. So don't ask.
AND
We still can't flash boot.img files (kernels) by recovery.
AND
We don't have a lot of developers here in the Amaze section to begin with. Poor xboarder.

How hard is it to port a Rom from the Sensation

You probably already know this but.....The Sensation has like 1000 roms its ridiculous, but we have the same screen with the same size and resolution, only thing that would be diffrent is BT radio right? Because I just peaked at the Sensation development and I died a little

I have been dying for a while. It must be very hard a lot of the roms want the phone to be S-offed but even then...IDK Its ridiculous the amount of roms i mean i kinda just want a sensation to play with you know?
The only similar parts in both devices are the screens (which are made my different manufactures) but that doesn't matter. its not hard to port a rom just because of screen differences, that's never been a problem. its the internals, the only part that is similar is the cpu/gpu which doesn't really matter either. there is a lot of differences. much different wifi as well
I think there is a thread covering this?
i dont have either of the phones... but i want the amaze because it is better than the sensation 4g, but i want the sensation 4g because of its wide variety or roms.
tough decisions!!!
but yeah roms arent hard to port... theres really only a couple things that you need to make a rom from another device boot on a different device. (i will let the more knowledgeable users take it from here)

you answered your question yourself "the amaze is a better device". doesn't matter how much better the development is. that's like saying I should get the g1 rather than the amaze because the development is amazing there lol
roms can be really hard to port if you don't have the right information (drivers, radio, etc). yeah, im sure it can be easy to port and boot up but no luck getting it stable so its pointless
Mabey if someone made a tool that was specific for porting sensation roms to the amaze, that would be sexy
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
But yea getting it stable is hard, and is the most challenging thing, we have ICS booted and we almost got Sense 4 booted, but they can't be daily drivers so no point in that right now

this has been discussed previously, the sensation is a completely different phone on the inside...EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PHONE is different...porting from sensation to amaze is not even a good ide, they don't use the same hardware at all, ergo they don't use the same drivers, kernel, modules etc....HTC Vivid is the closest phone you will find to the amaze.

Yeah it's pretty nice. Some issues here and there but I'm sure the devs will fix all of that in due time.
I might take 3.6 for a spin if this next update from Newt doesn't improve my battery life much. I've loved using 4.0 but I might have to back off for a little bit because of my battery issues.

No root, just vanilla? What? You're going to need to root your phone to get a plain ICS ROM man.
And the only modifications you'll see added on to an AOSP ROM like AOKP are useful ones that enhance the vanilla Android, like sliding your finger along the top to control brightness. When do you see ROMs with weird logos and things in them? That's pretty rare I'd say.

[Q] So many good roms for the One X's... any way to port over to ours?

Is there an easy way to port over roms?
There are tons of AOSP and AOKP roms for the different One X devices out there, and yet our development has stalled. There are also quite a few decent sense roms that we havent had a look at yet.
Is there an easy way to port it over? I know they use different radios and all that jazz, but there should be a way to port over the OS and keep the rest of the stuff.
Im willing to take on the task of porting over if there was some tool or directions.
Anyone?
I'd love to see some of those ROMs ported .. try asking the guy who ported over the Pokemon ROM .. Charmeleon

Yeah, so far I'm disappointed in the lack of development thus far. I know its only been about two months but I see other new phones with so many different options already. Mean ROM, is the only one that stands above the rest so far. If there were actually development going on, wouldn't the devs post some screen
Previews or something? Its way too quiet. I'll wait a few more months but might end up giving this to my wife if development doesn't start kicking off soon. Perhaps everyone jumped to the GS3
