I've searched all over the web for this and all over XDA and there has been nothing conclusive. Hoping we can find something usable here.
Basically, market hangs on starting downloads and does not progress. I can tie the failure only occurring after I install the V1.1.0_r2 update and ensuring top to bottom I have met all the requirements. I work on about 4 NCs for family members and one of our has gotten V1.1.0_r2 working with Market fully functional. 2 of the NC's fail Market and have not tested the 4th since generally, only Market fails but all other functions on the NC work perfectly.
My system:
- 1.0.1 Auto Nootered
- Gingerbread keyboard
- Sideload hack
- Telephony Hack
Here are the symptoms I have found:
- All worked fine on 1.0.1
- Initial install of 1.1 worked for a bit but crashed on adfree host file update and did not work thereafter
- First notice was on Facebook download
- market.android.com can still push installs
What has not worked:
- Clearing Market data
- Clearing download manager
- Starting and stopping downloads
- ejecting or unmounting SD card
- fixing permissions does not work
I've seen this happen on 2 different Nook Colors but not on a 3rd and my personal SC I've repeated the failure across 3 complete factory wipes and resets with the same end result of a working Market that gets stuck on Download Starting.
Any ideas?
You don't have an Android phone, do you? This happens on every device recently, something with the market, has nothing to do with the Nook.
I disagree. I have a DINC and several nooks and I can force this to happen on the nook where the market works fine until I update to 1.1
I was having the same market download behaviour you describe the first few times I attempted a 1.1 upgrade. The thing that finally did work for me was doing a complete wipe of all data, all cache and complete factory reset, even back to the stock recovery partition. Then walked through the upgrade setting things up by hand and not restoring anything from backup. The market has worked fine for me ever since.
You mentioned doing complete factory wipes and resets, and if they were this kind of thorough wipe-everything back to out-of-the-box state reset and not just a restore from an old backup... then I don't know what to tell you. I assumed there must have been something buried in my data that was somehow causing the problem in 1.1, but maybe I just got lucky that last time.
fwiw, here's what I did in case you spot any differences that might help.
- "Erase and Deregister Device"
- wiped dalvik cache and cache partition from clockwork recovery
- used dd to rewrite boot and system partitions to stock out-of-the-box state (1.0.1 version)
- rebooted and went through B&N "first time" setup process, registered with my B&N account.
- auto-nootered
- rebooted and went through google's "first time" setup process.
- performed the whole youtube -> gmail -> google talk -> market setup dance
- installed clockwork rom manager from the market
- followed the 1.1.0 upgrade process
- rebooted and tested everything (including the market)
- started manually loading books and apps back on, avoiding backups made before the upgrade
I don't know if this is of any help, but it worked for me. And I hope someone figures out where the problem actually is before the next B&N upgrade, because I'd rather not have to do all that again.
I did the same thing as you but I did not wipe the dalvik cache. Weird thing was that I was able to get market to work immediately after the update but it stopped working after a bit. Couldn't tell what triggered it and I was only doing hard installs from market. No backups.
I restored to factory via 1.0.1 image several times to try and isolate the problem. It was not decisive since I do have one nook that competed all updates including an overclock and all functions seem to work perfect including market.
issues and FCs with V1.1.0_r2 update
Keep in mind I am a noob at all of this and am barely able to keep up with you guys, but I had problems with FCs and general instability after using the V1.1.0_r2 update and flashing one of the more "stable" overclocked kernals. In general I didn't like the direction my NC was heading and decided to begin again.

and so far everything seems stable.
The people on these forums amaze me with their technical know-how.
Having the EXACT same problem here after doing a wipe and upgrade to auto-nootered 1.1.
After successfully downloading and installing roughly 20 apps, any new downloads now stop at the "Starting Download...." stage. Ive also tried everything short of replacing vending.apk to fix the problem -- nothing has worked. Ill be trying that next... I'll report back after.
Can anyone get greader or greader pro to work for cm 7.02? It will not show articles and hangs on the loading after I open a feed. I have pro but installed regular to test if it was a problem with pro. Also I've cleared the cache/uninstalled etc. If you're not on cm 7.02 and it works please tell me what version. Thanks.
i have the pro version... running build 68 of cm7 (today's build) and have no issues. I have a ton of groups in google reader too.
May want to try a clean install... I have had to do that a few times... also try doing a fix permissions from rom manager.
Clean install of what? Greader or cm? I don't want to lose my home screen layout. Updated to newest daily cleared dalvik and reinstalled greader pro just keeps fcing and not loading. Also ran fix perm.

You aren't alone on this one. I am having the same issues. I recommend sending a copy of your logcat and a brief description of what you are experiencing to the developer and posting a copy on the forum. I am unsure if it is the application or cm7 which is causing the FCs. I use a free application called alogcat to get the logcat. I am hoping this gets resolved because I use this application everyday. For now I just use my HTC Thunderbolt for my rss fix. I started experiencing this issues since nightly 65 I believe.

Have you tried updating to CM 7.0.3? I'm running 7.0.3 and gReader is working fine for me.
I am happy to say the lastest cm7 2.6.32 beta 3.1 works with greader. I used it this morning without any FCs or issues. The clearing of the cache bug is the application's problem not cm7. But for now it is usable. Thanks Dalingerin, Fattire and the rest of the crew.

Pro version, or FREE? I still can't get the FREE version working on any recent nightly or .32 beta build.
Both free and pro. I am on cm7.32 beta 3.1 with the overclock kernel 5/13/11. Try clearing the cache within greader because it has a problem with doing it automatically. Also make sure you are running the latest version of greader. Did you every save a logcat after the application crashed? I am not an expert by I would like to see if you are experiencing the same issues I had. Also contact the dev.
hi all, new here & FroyoBread v015 was my first ROM install.
Everything worked fine as far as I know, updated to 16 & then 17 but notice my camera is extremely unresponsive now on FroyoBread | v017.
Anyone else have this issue?
I have done factory reset, cleared caches and still have the same problem.

u can stop app usin' Advanced Task Killer n if u want to remove app u can usin' SystemAppRemover
Thanks Blacklistest, went back to a fresh install of FroyoBread v017 & used a different google account to sign in with no apps auto downloading & camera works fine again.
so def a conflict with one or more apps on my usual account.
Will SystemAppRemover also remove apps from my android store account? the re-downloading of no longer installed apps is a nightmare...

After flashing latest full version of CM7.2 RC1 by vo-1 [19/3/12] I found that:
* Rom seems to be based upon latest official CM7.2 RC1, if not all at least partially.
* Proximity Sensor works
* Torch works
* Bluetooth works
* Link2sd works
* Includes latest Google Play 3.4.7
* Includes lagloose's GPS/Sensors fix as the gpsd file exists now in system/bin
* Latest Google Maps work, no force closes, very fast
* No lag after disabling live wallpaper and tweak cyanogenmod settings
* Blackhawk OC Kernel included
* Fast rom, no lag
* FOTA KILL which is included in stock roms exists in system/app which didn't by now. Don't know why but I am sure there is a reason
* UPDATE: Battery life is very good. After 2 days of testing I can say that it does nor drain fast.
After that, I think we need the appropriate people to do these:
1. Deodex versions for both full and update rom. Clean versions, no things added or removed. DONE = Check 2nd post
2. FrameworkMod (30 volume steps) for both odex and deodexed DONE = Check 2nd post
3. Pdroid Patch DONE = Check 2nd post
4. I don't know much but I definately know how to prepare ICS Layouts 012 by achep (ready for flash) for deodex version DONE = Check 2nd post
Seems like this rom is reaching everybody's expectations. Please feel free to discuss your experience.

I'm having lots of problems with Titanium Backup Pro 4.8.4.1, I get FC on scroll, it fails to restore properly. That was an update of 19.03 over 15.03 (clear cache and dalvik), 15.03 was a fresh clean install (format /system and everything else!) which was working OK. Uninstall / reinstall of TB didn't solve it, I wasn't happy to delete my TB backups so reverted to official RC1. It's very rare to get TB problems, which surprised me.

Great review man, I agree with all of your observations and about battery, 15/03/12 version was having serious battery draining problems for me, I will be updating this post after a day or so to let you know about 19/03 version.

UPDATE: battery seems to be draining at a similar rate, I changed to smartassv2 and it seems to be a bit better, I used to keep it with performance governor @883Mhz, it had never given such battery draining problem in the past, I will move away from it now.

Trying now with 4.8.4 Pro version. No FC's while scolling, backing up completed succesfully. I flashed the full version over XWKT7. Don't know why this happened to you and it's really weird problem which I doubt it has to do with rom functionality.

I didn't experience any problem with TB, I restored my whole 50+ apps with no problems at all in a single batch operation, the only problem I am facing is google Play FCing on me, I will try reflashing gapps and post about results.

so far no problems with me with google play. Tried installing some apps, all OK! Maybe the update process from one veriosn to another creates the problem. If possible I suggest testers to try a clean install with the full version over a stock rom.

Ha, Google Play was working fine for me on 19.03, but was FC going back to my CWM 14.03officialRC1 backup -- my titanium restore on 14.03 of google play from 19.03 fixed the FC...
I manage to make things work with xultimate. Testing now and it's deodexing. Probaby tomorrow late night I'll post the deodex version of 19/3/12

Flashing latest gapps fixed by FC problem, is all good in the hood, if anyone is interested, i used this to get it fixed:

Do any of you use Waze? I have never had any problem with it on any rom before, but on this one specifically it closes whenever I try to navigate, I have tried reinstalling, deleting all data, etc, etc and it doesn't work. The app hasn't been upgraded since Feb 23rd so it has to be something with this rom. Just wondering if anyone else is having these kind of issues.
UPDATE: I flashed lagloose's patch and I got a much faster lock, it is included originally but also a bunch of other libs, so on that part at least I got better locks after patching, But waze keeps closing down, it is not a force close, I don't get any kind of pop up, it simply closes abruptly, what a bummer, I use freaking waze everyday, GPS is an important thing to me

If it was backed up with titanium and restored, uninstall app, reboot phone and clear cache, reboot, restore again with titanium BUT ONLY THE APP NOT IT'S DATA! Other users reported problems with titanium fc but others don't so I guess It has to do with the update prosses of the rom?
I use gps a lot also but can't try that today. But I am sure it's not the rom. Try if possible for you to to a clean install of the full version!
To solve my Titanium Backup problems, I had to delete the persistent settings saved by TB to the /sdcard/ -- so something in the settings setup seemed to trigger this specifically for the 19-03 build.

I would like to know how performance and battery life compares to stock rom with moderate usage (I don't play games much, but I do browse the internet over Wi-Fi and 3G for 3hr/d). Also, is the phone fully functioning (gps, compass, etc)?
I can't move from stock if i'm losing reliability. Hope someone can report.

Since this is only 1 day old we don't have sufficient detailed reports. But I don't think anyone here will complain about vo-1's rom. Previous version were great, this one is awesome. But again friend, you have to try things aout by yourself. If everyone were playing safe we wouldn't have such great roms here. The only thing I can say is that the functions you mention work great!
ok, thank you buddy! i'm going straight for a nandroid and a flash...will try and report myself. I was asking because I've flashed much in the past week and really didn't feel like wasting time...I am now on AdrenalineROM and it's good, so I really don't know what to expect more! After all, our phone has its limits.

I reflashed clean from stock rom, with 3x wipe, deleted waze folder on sd and reinstalled clean from market (not TB restore) and still the problem persisted, I also tried flashing your deodexed version to no avail, I noticed that it also happened to me playing angry birds, I even tried underclocking thinking it could have something to do with high cpu utilization, no fix.
Flashed FAT CM7 clean and no problems whatsoever, I will stick to FAT for the time being, in my opinion both roms are nearly 100% functional with no issues pretty much. Thanks for all the suggestions and good luck

Don't know what to say, I installed Angry Birds form Market, played about 5 minutes. No fc, smooth gaming! If you are happy with FAT Rom then I am happy too!!! I haven't found myself any issues, and I don't need to lie about this as I am not getting paid for anything. I am just a great supporter of vo-1's rom
