Noooooooooo............
So..32sec ago..
Rooted or not, its still super limited and is waay weaker than NT. Hell, even unrooted I got all my sideloaded ebooks on it already, as well as 1080p videos on my 32gb sd. How much 1080p footage can you place on even rooted KF? Very, very little.
Yeah..until the KF gets a mic...2x memory and expandable SD slot...I'm keeping my NC and looking forward to the rooting of the NT.
I'm glad someone got it worked out. Hopefully the NT just more time in lieu of high expectations from the company. I mean, everyone wanted to know if it could be done to the KF.
What surprises me is that they've release the source code already. Maybe they tried so hard to compete with the ibrick that they suddenly realized they have more competition.
Good for us either way.
...and Amazon Puts Kindle Fire Source Code Up for Download

Perhaps you should give it some time...the NT has not Actually been released yet.
The root is based on zergrush and I think it should also work on NT. Just need someone with a NT to test.

Currently adb on the NT isn't where it was with NC.
Once the adb/'shell' can be found...its possible to test this or ask for code rewrite to support the new 'adb/shell'

Don't think adb is a must, how about sideload terminal app and run zergrush within that?
zergrush is good till 2.3.6. Whats the android version on NT? build.prop?

Doesn't terminal require su privileges?
Terminal runs as User - and is where you can enter SU if supported.

I have read that for the Nook devs have built systems that boot and run from the SD card without an install. I am curious if any of the devs has looked at this for the gtablet. Seems to me that this would be a solution to the entire 1.1/1.2 issue.
The only difference is a locked bootloader. 1.2 has no new functionality. You are locking your bootloader by choice when running 1.2. You can have everything that is in 1.2 by running 1.1 and you arent restricted to the stock kernel.

Not sure that was called for. "Get the f*** off my forum" doesn't help anyone.
I'm not familiar with nook modding but I'm not sure they are actually "running an OS off the SD card." I've never read anything that would be the equivalent of a bootable CD for android tablet/phone devices. It's probably a technical impossibility, which would be the reason badfrog here has dismissed you from the throne room.

I am familiar with the nook and they ARE running an os off the external card. The GTab however doesnt have this ability.
I haven't told anyone to get out of the forums. I'm just recommending the iPad to everyone.
Now you may kiss my hand
Let's stay on topic and assist the OP in his questions and not descend into the dungeon, ok? Or else I may need to cut that hand off thebadfrog
Ah I see, "Get an iPad" isn't a slam. It's much more devious than I expected... Steve is that you?
Surprised to hear they are booting off an SD card with the nook, very interesting. Could have mentioned to the OP that this is an impossibility with the G-Tab.
Well I for one would love to see that functionality happen as it would open the door for other things. Imagine booting into Linux like a Live CD or Live USB, I'm dying to try one of Hexxeh's builds.

It isn't possible on the gTablet. The Nook has built-in the process to check the sdcard as a bootable device.... The simplest way to explain it is how some computer BIOS doesn't allow booting from the USB but others do.
Just received my TF201 Asus Transformer Prime today.

I'm looking for a method in rooting the device.
I'm aware that RazorClaw is suppose to work on the device but could anyone confirm that it there are no bugs which would possibly brick the device etc?
PS. This is my first tablet / android device so please bare with me.
Thanks In Advance!

I think you will be fine rooting that way. There is a site that reviewed th tfp and they used that root method and they said it went well with no issues.
What the hurry ?
It might not be a bad idea to wait until the unit is burned in, and you are satisfied that everything is working perfectly before mucking around (i.e. rooting). Then, if you have problems, you can more certain that the problems are attributable to the rooting.
Enjoy your Prime
Could anyone brief me with the cons of rooting the device? :|
Research first, especially with this being your first android tab. Don't be over anxious n go bricking your device..lol.
Was there an immediate notification for an update after you opened it? Razor claw supposedly doesn't work after Asus pushed a system update. It was rooted prior to update on in-store demo model.
What's reason for eagerness to root so quickly? There are no custom roms or anything out yet. It's not 3G so no tethering. If you root and uninstall system files/bloatware you won't be able to do OTA update to Icer Cream Sandwich. Which means you will have to wait till someone here makes a version, which might not for a while.
Sorry that this is off topic, but does the color you ordered seem true to the advertised pics?

Good thing we have search engines....
1. Technically voids warranty and may not allow OTA updates.
2. Possibility of a brick if you don't know WTF you're doing.
Huummmm... cons of rooting..... hummm... don't rush, still thinking.... possible OTA update issue, very unlikely, but still possible I guess; most of the time the OTA will just erase the root.... uummmm yeah, that's about all I can think of.
Also, guess there's a very small chance of a soft brick... but I would tend to think that the root will either take, or it wont... but there's still a chance I guess.
IMO, the benefits far outweigh the "possible" consequences.
Wish I had mine, I do it in a heart beat.

With this being his first tablet and Android device period, seems like he wants to root just for the sake of saying he's rooted. You know very well what happens to a lot of new people to Android that just jump in and want to root w/o thoroughly doing the homework first. Lmao

ATM, other than de-bloating there is very little reason for root.
Does anyone know by any chance the official release date of ICS?
I'm aware that it has been "released" to certain phones like the Samsung Galaxy, but when would it be made available to the Asus Transformer Prime? o_o

Yeah, no other reason... except de-odexing, themeing, TI Backup, freezing, editing database files, changing VM Heap size, installing custom scripts, overclocking/undervolting custom kernels, disabling startup processes.... that's just off the top of my head.

No Official date yet but could be by end of this month or mid Jan. It literally could be anyday. Just keep a lookout on an update notification popping up. Or even go to settings and about. Then click on system or whatever to see of it searches and finds an update for your device.

Everybody says root root. The new roms come out fast... I did it with my original tf and roms don't come out that fast especially if Asus is going to push ICS soon. I'd wait a while especially since a lot of potential devs won't get their unit for several weeks or months!

Any news on the co-star? A lot of them have been shipped.
Btw, can anyone give me the specs of the power supply? I'm interested mostly in the Voltage input range. Since I'm going to use it in EU I'd like to know if I need another power supply or I can hook it up to a wallplug adapter. Would be great if the input range is 110-240V.
The power supply takes 100-240v ~50-60Hz, max 0.6A
Super duper standard.
That's good news.
I hope that rooting and custom firmware development will start soon for the box.
Anyone able to figure out how to side load apps? Just got mine and noticed it's running firmware version 2.3.1.
Can anyone with one do me a favor? Can you see if you can export the OnLive APK that comes on it and send it to me somehow? I have the Sony GS7 which has the same processor but it doesn't come with OnLive, I was hoping I could sideload it.

I pulled the ge.tt file from my co-star using adb, it was in /data/app I don't know too much as to why the force closes would happen. I have had that happen for a lot of side loaded apps I thought should work also. Did you try rebooting it?
There might be some other files required for it to run, I'm not sure how to find out what they are though.

The thing that makes me sad is the Co-Star has a bonafide hack out there that's been demoned a few places. It's been out since release, but I have yet to see any updates on how to actually DO IT =(.
I wish someone would document how to hack it so at least others can take up the task of re-roming it if those who hacked it aren't willing.
YES, I already know we can run it using chmod and a VNC... But, now that Nvidia has released the Linux (NOT ICS) drivers, would it be possible to install Ubuntu on the Atrix as main OS ? The Ventana (Atrix' Tegra 2 chip) is listed in the compatible devices, but I'd never be able to know how to flash this. Also there's a pretty good news inside this page : "Ventana is now the reference Tegra 2 chip"...
http://developer.nvidia.com/mobile/linux-tegra
Finally, I truly insist on the fact that I know these are not the drivers we're looking for. But it's still pretty cool, and I think we should pay some attention to this... We're not getting ICS/JB but Ubuntu is still pretty cool.

Hi.
I use this with my atrix. Requires you stay back with a non CM Gingerbread Rom. But it works great. It is fast, and it unlocks a full Ubuntu Jaunty distribution.

Give it a go. Work with NoattachTrix, MaxBlur, and a few others.
If you try it and don't like it. Back it all up, and then you can visit it again in the future.

You can use an app like Root Explorer or Solid to move or rename /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip. It may still download an update, but then you can delete it in Cache & it should stop future updates.
I would think at some point root will get patched though, as it really is a GAPING security hole that if used maliciously could have a devastating affect. Initially I thought 9695860 was only open to 64kb of data, however, after talking with jcase, he told me that saurik had figured out how to further the exploit, which from what I have read, you could now drive a truck through. It all depends on how much they do in-house & how much of Google's base code they rely on. If they update to a 4.3 base for Fire, say bye bye. Otherwise, it could stick around for a while at least. Hopefully by then we have more tools to combat them with, like a recovery. Hashcode is very busy right now, but now that we have root, he mentioned stopping by to see what we could get going, similar to what he's done for all the previous Amazon devices (which is quite a bit). For now, rename or move the certs to your sdcard & you should be okay.
Thanks for taking the time to answer--this sounds like it's complicated to do at this point--I'll wait a bit and see what tools become available to do it a bit easier.

Not really. Just root, use a root level explorer, like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer & move or rename one file. I don't think it is going to happen any time soon anyway. They just updated to 14.3.1 & they didn't patch it then. It will only really lock out this exploit with a new kernel that is patched.
I meant the process of rooting, from the other thread, seemed complicated. But maybe I didn't give it a close enough look...
Can you direct me to where I'd download the relevant files from/instructions on what to do, and how to keep Amazon from pushing through an update once I've done it? I have ES on my Kindle already.

which kernel is the 7" HDX device running on? We are working on a root exploit for 7" HD 3rd generation, maybe the root method you use, could work for us too.
