[Q] Car Dock Challenge - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted ATT Atrix running CM7 (Ba2Tf). Until recently, I had no problems when I placed the phone in the Motorola Car Dock. All apps started up as they should, but now when I put the phone in the dock, it no longer even knows it's in the dock. It indicates it is charging, but I am losing battery instead of charging. (this is a seperate issue, maybe my cig lighter USB - 1 amp - is faulty)
When I look for the stock car dock app, it is not there.
Do I have a faulty dock? Missing apk?

Well, unless you deleted the apk, it should still be there. Is it showing up in your apps list ?? Assuming it is there, the only thing I can think of is to go into manage applications and clear the data for the car dock. If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache's in recovery.

I had the same problem. Non Motorola charger burned something inside the dock so it would not recognize the phone, only charge function will work. I had to exchange it for new dock (under 1 yr. warranty). I got Motorola charger with 750mAmp and haven't had problem since.

I was wondering if I burned my charger. Guess I'm off to the store! Thanks!

I traded out my old dock and now all works fine. I am using a 750mAmp charger as well. So far, so good. Ran my GPS and made a few calls on a one hour trip and arrived with a full charge!
Thanks again.

[Q] Touchpad wont charge!!

Not sure whats wrong with it.. I cant seem to charge my touchpad. I tried my phone's charger but it said it provides lower voltage and instructed to connect to the charger that came with touchpad. When I connect the stock charger (one that came with the touchpad)...nothing happens and it doesnt charge.
You think my charger isn't working or is there any problem with the touchpad?
Thanks for your help guys.
Are you running the CM7 build?
im currently running webos.
That happened to my gf's charger/Touchpad. I know that her contacts are flaky when I use the her TP charger for my phone. My guess is to start there.
If you are stock, my money is on the physical contacts, second guess would be the charger itself is bad.
You mean try using my phone's charger for the touchpad?

Touchpads are very picky to the charging source. There is a hack that you can download to fix that. However I recommend taking the stock charger, twisting it so it comes into 2 pieces and twist it back together. HP may have made the charging requirements picky for a reason. Much like early iPhones.

Ill try that once I get home.hope it works.....otherwise ill have to look into the hack. Do I need to root tp to get the hack working?

Yea. But that's easy

My gf's tp has problem charging a well. Tried charging via mine and her wall chargers. Both would charge my touchpad but would not charge hers. It would tell me the same as if I was charging using a computer. Charged it overnight and battery was still dead. Tried using multiple cables as well with no luck. Tried charging via the touchstone. For the first 7+ hours, nothing happened, just a battery icon with a flash and red bar. I decided to call HP about the problem. Set up and RMA to get it repaired. 10 minutes after calling HP, the touchpad finally showed some sign of life when it started booting up. I tried switching to the wall charger but it doesn't show any indication that it was charging. As of now, it is being charged on the touchstone but dunno the status of it because I had to go to work. I will find out in the morning. But I will still RMA the tp as it doesn't seem to charge via the usb port.
If the battery was that flat mllk it's probably damaged anyway so an RMA is the way to go.
Does anyone know where i can get this charger hack that is mentioned?
My charger did not work out of the box and it was simply because it is a universal charger made to take new plug attachments that screw into and out of the mane charging body.
It takes a rotation until it clicks into place to be properly set and functional. It seems mine was not rotated all the way in place. I thought I broke the charger when it came apart when I was messing around with it until I found this fact and after I put it back together and twisted it until it snapped into place it has worked fine since.
I plan to get a touchstone charger for it down the line anyways I think just to reduce wear & tear on the usb port and also to make charging it a more simple affair.
Shame it does not seem to charge from PC, its a bit misleading being that its a usb cable.

Anyone experiencing issues with the Motorola Navigation Dock?

I purchased the 89529N Motorola Navigation dock and for some reason it's not recognizing my Droid Razr.
I watched several videos on youtube and it showed the Razr entering car mode as soon as placed into the dock and the sliding micro-USB plug inserted.
While my droid recognizes that it's charging, it doesn't enter Car Mode, does not launch the Motorola Car Finder app upon removal nor does it output audio via the USB-Audio Cable.
I've spent some time looking to see if other people are having this issue and the only other report I've found is a review on the product via Amazon:
amazon.com/Motorola-89525N-Vehicle-Navigation-Charger/product-reviews/B005W8NLG0/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar
I have now gone through 3 of these docking stations. I WANT it to work but after the phone snaps into the mount (nicely managed) there is a squared black slider that has the male USB end that is supposed to slide into the top of the phone's USB port. This connection was flaky in the first two units i purchased and i ended up needing to slide a business card in behind the phone to put enough pressure to cause the phone Car App to start and for the port to think it had a power cable inserted...
The business card approach finally quit working this morning (11.21.2011) so I took the unit into a local Verizon Store and showed them. This happened with 3 RAZR phones from the store so it was not the phone. I then ended up going through 3 of the car dock boxes and the first two ALSO had this problem. The third unit worked but i had to push the black slider back a tad to put some positive pressure on it before it will slide into the phones USB port...
I need this thing to work. I want the Car Nav App to start and for the phone to charge... Verizon, you need to take a look at the design of this device. The quality of it seems fine. It is sturdy and mounts wonderfully but the slider idea seems to be a problem.

So, does anyone else with this dock have the same problem?
I had the same issue with mine. It worked for the first few days then it tanked. Returned to Verizon for another unit. This one has been working for the past.
Check the RAZR forums on the Motorola support site and there are several other folks that have been experiencing the same issue.
No problems at all with the car dock. I use it daily and it has always worked as advertised.
How long is the power cable the comes with the version of the car dock that comes with a power cable?
If it's not super long I may just buy the cheaper version of the dock.
I had the same problems with my first dock. I returned it and got another and so far so good. A couple of times it's failed to recognize the phone, but sliding out the usb and putting it back usually fixes it.
I bought the car dock and so far it works perfect. I drove about 1100 miles over the holidays, and it worked perfectly the entire trip with a CHEAP generic micro USB cable and CHEAP generic car charger from monoprice.com Phone was running GPS and nav the whole time and I was impressed that it never got hot or too warm (just EVER SO SLIGHTLY warm. My old HTC Incredible would get hot as hell running GPS for several hours)

I did have the problem when I first received the dock. After studying the dock I realized the bottom plate can be removed. I did just that and the holder works great. Can even use it with the protection case.
I've also had my car dock for some time now and have been using it with a commuter series OtterBox. I've seen no problems with it, in fact while running Google navigation since the new update I've not seen any substantial overheating issues at all. Overall I'm very pleased with its operation. It is a little disconcerting to hear several of you have had problems with it.
I have not had any issues with this dock. The HD dock, yes but so far I love this navigation dock over the one my Thunderbolt and Original Moto Droid had. However, where do you people find this USB/Audio cable? I purchased the mount right from verizon and it did not come with it. Can't seem to find the cable anywhere either.

It doesn't have a picture and the description makes it sound like a basic usb cable that's really expensive, but I ordered it for the same reason you are and I can assure you that it is a basic USB cable that's really expensive... with the audio dongle on the end. At $20 it's a bit of a rip-off, but it's what you need.
mine works like a champ, it gets used on a daily basis.

I just bought the car dock, is there a way to setup a alternative navigation app?
I want to use Sygic instead of Google Maps. Anyone?

You can add an app of your choice on the "Music" page of the Navigation app.
Thanks found it! i hope Moto will update the Car Dock so you can choose your own software
I don't have my Razr yet to test this, but try the Car Home Ultra app. It's fully customizable and can be launched by the dock.
I purchased a car dock its work for me fine.

I've had my car dock now for about a month, and it works like a charm for me. Car Home Ultra is a great app and you can add a bunch of different apps to it's home screen so you can set it up the way you want.
I have 2 car docks it use to work on both now it doesn't work on either of them, ever since i re flashed using 9.8.2O-124_SPUL-18_Rogers_P005_A006_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml.

Weird Power Cord Problem...

I just bought a new aftermarket power cord from Walmart that is made to work with my EVO 3D. I know it works because this cord is to replace another one I left in a hotel room of the same make that worked just fine.
Anyway, when I plug the phone in using this one, the touch screen will no longer work at all. Neither will the capacitive buttons. Yeah, I know, weird right? I can see my homescreen just fine, just touch doesn't work.
Any ideas what might be causing this odd behavior?
I had this happen with a china cord I bought. They gave me my money back
sent from my EVO 3D via XDA app on ViperROM
i've seen this happen before with non O.E. cables,
I have been told its due to improper voltage, Same thing happened when I purchased a new USB cable off amazon that was advertised to work with the device.
I picked up a $10 micro usb cable from microcenter to use in my car with my iGrip car dock, and have not had any problems with it at all. Because my car sucks, I use my phone as my speedometer, and with it connected, it doesn't charge, but doesn't drop in charge either, so I call that a win. I blame the usb adaptor/connector/charger that I'm using, personally.

[Q] Connecting Tablet directly to A/C wall adapter will not charge tablet

update solved issue
I'm having the same issue...I think it might have something to do with the new update that was released a few days ago. I went on a trip to Florida last week and fully charged my tablet before leaving. While on the trip I got the notification to update, so I did. The battery lasted me the rest of the trip and it wasn't until I got home when it started dieing did I think to charge. Went to charge the tablet tonight and no charging.
Called support, they had me plug it into the computer and it still recognized it. Even used the charger head with my phone usb cable and it worked as well so it can't be the charger even though ASUS is trying to say it is. As of right now my tablet is 100% dead and I can't even get on it to factory reset the thing. Totally disappointed with this.
Hi. I have just up graded to .14 with the OTA update in the UK.
I had the same problem and solved it by taking the pin unit off the charger and putting it back again. bad contact between the charging unit and the pin unit. I have to say I am not impressed by the quality of the charging unit.
The keyboard will charge up the tablet until it is completely discharged. tab has priority.
If you still have the problem with direct charging of the tablet, you might have a good look in the connector: to see if there is and fluff/ paper shreds etc in there causing any probs.

Usb cable looks fine. When plugged into dock + tablet, works flawlessly. Take away dock.. tablet will not charge.:-(
Must be on the software side or of physical connection of the usb cable and the damn bevel edge of the tablet.. looks really awkward from the backside when you have anything plugged into the tablet
had same problem called ASUS did a software data wipe and it started charging again, must be a conflicting app
hope this helps you
when you say software data wipe.. you pretty much mean do factory reset right? which will cause loosing root?

[Q] Charging Issue - MHL/HDMI Adapter Samsung s3 lte

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had any insights in to this problem I have been having.
Briefly, I have the 4g lte verion on EE's new network. I purchased the official MHL/HDMI adapter which works fine and the video is outputed to my sammy 50inch tv fine. The issue I have is the battery drains while doing so. I belive this may to due to the phone outputting more than it is drawing from the power source. Any thoughts ?
I spoke with Samsung tech and they said a number of people have started to report this issue and they are currently testing/investigating. If this is indeed the case seems a pointless acessory as a long video would possibly drain the whole battery, Im yet to test the full drain time.
Secondly, with a 3rd party docking cradle with spare battery slot which purchased from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/eLifeStore®-Samsung-Desktop-Charger-Docking/dp/B008PPRGFY) also does not charge phone properly. Even with the orignial charger in the ac port (or usb port) . The phone reports as charging but stays the same or decreases. Charged directly from the socket it is fine. Strange!
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian
It's common. Mine did that too! I switched to my old S2 charger, problem solved
Thanks Ill try that out, any idea why that works ?

No idea man? A design fault maybe? All I know is that my phone took for f#*%ing ever to charge with the USB type wall charger. I pulled it out of the socket and plugged my other other one in that was sitting right next to it and it started charging? Checked a few minutes later and it had climbed considerably so I pulled the USB cable out of the new plug and kicked it under the bed where it now lays resting not to be used again LOL.
USB plug/cord works perfectly fine? So I use it on the computer. My laptop even charges the phone via the USB cable faster than the socket plug (which is usually the opposite - as I am sure we are all aware). So yeah I would say poor design or defective wall plug or both or something? Wasn't going to send my phone back because of it. 2second decision problem solved Samsung phone is great!
Im having exactly the same problem.
I have an s3 on orange and have the same mhl adapter conected to my tv.
I have tried the charger from my s3 which does says its charging when I connect my phone but only for about a minute so I also tried using the charger from my s2 and that just does exactly the same.
An easier way is to buy the official allshare dongle for your hdtv then you can stream anything from your phones screen direct to your tv and can have the phone on charge via pc or wall socket at the same time,
Hope this helps
i suggest you throw away your original charger (slow charge) and its usb cable (loose - actually caused the extsd to become damaged to the point i had to repartition) and buy yourself a cheap usb cable for data (£2) and a 3rd party charger (pref not a usb adapter one - £5) and all should be fine!
I still experienced a small battery drain while using the mhl adapter, however, i froze a few apps with titianuim (ones i know run all the time like utter and tasker, paragon ntfs, easy ums, directory bind etc), and put it on min brightness - works like a charm. I know its a effort freezing apps but does the trick with my phone... Since finding that out i actually keep paragon & easy ums frozen till i need them...
just a few thoughts for you....
