I'm trying to avoid having the Facebook app installed, since I felt it was silly to only have it installed for the sake of uploading pictures, so I set up Blur with my Facebook account and, just today, uploaded a picture using it instead of the official Facebook app. To my surprise, it uploaded a much lower quality image than the original.
Why is the Blur app downsampling uploads? Is there a way to change this behavior?
Thanks in advance.
anyone have any insight?

Try "Picture Folder"
This is best and simple
More along the lines of what I wanted, thanks alot
Are you serious ? On my Mini the pictures are blured (not sharp) on fullscreen view and when viewing with zoom the picture does not load, it is like apliyng digital zoom a small resolution photo. Well, sometimes on some pictures the zoom works and load the full resolution picture but it is slow.
edit: I have found that if i open an album in portrait mode and then turn to landscape mode the pictures are blurier and zoom is not loading 100% resolution photo. Maybe it creates cache for portrait and when turn in landscape mode it uses the same caches(thumbnails at 240x***?) and it looks blurier. For zoom that not work i can't find any excuses.
edit2: It looks like default Album is displaying photos in zoom mode 100% with fewer colors than justpictures. The gradients can be seen. maybe that's why is faster at zooming than justpictures.
floating image
I tried a bunch of photo album apps, and the best in my opinion is Floating Image. You can customize which folders you want (my photos albums are simply organised by folders/sub-folders so it's great for me) and the layout is superb. The only problem I have with it is that you can't zoom when vewing photos but I think it's because X10 mini isn't multi-touch : you have to keep pressing on the photo to bring up a menu and open the photo with the default vewing app and then zoom. Besides that, this app is the best.
I think this thread is posted in the wrong section. This should be in Themes and Apps subforum and not in Android Development
QuickPic is my choice for photos, shows photos in folders (can hide specific folders), very fast thumbnail generation, good quality.
What Do You Want Basicaly?
if You Only Want To hide some folders from default pic album than here is the solution..
create .nomedia file from notepad in your system if you dont know hot to create tell me
than place this file into the folder which you dont want to include in your picture album
all pictures in the folder with this file will not be added in your default picture album when you want to add those pictures delete this file from that folder via any file manager simple it is...
.nomedia is not a solution, because it will also prevent player playing music from these folders. Get Just Pictures for free from the market. It allows you to ignore folders you donĀ“t want to show up.
Fish Bowl Photo Viewer is my favourite viewer. It's fast and easy to use and lets you set the default folder to view.

Hi!
I know that MIUI uses a separate contact picture as a small icon (automatically downloaded), and a caller picture as a fullscreen picture when you get a call (manually set from gallery), as stated here. For me app Friendcaster automatically downloads my friends' facebook profile pictures in full size, and sets them as contact pictures. Can I use these automatically downloaded pictures as fullscreen caller pictures?
From what I understand with MIUI, you have to select the contact pictures manually in order to get a full screen image. Otherwise, all you get is the small image that you have in the contacts list.

No, I didn't. I'm not using MIUI anymore, and that fixes many things though.

I'm having the same issue.
It's a pretty basic scenario: You sync your Facebook contacts with any of the so-many-available apps (that also allows to save very high-resolution photos), and now you want the photos to display fullscreen when the contact calls you... but, you can't. It will only display "caller" photos that are manually chosen from the local gallery. Why? because... just like that.
Anyone found a solution?
Thanks

help?
I've noticed that some screenshots posted in the lock and home screen threads seem to be in the higher resolution than what I get when using the built in screenshots mechanisms. I this a setting or are you guys using a third party application?
Nevermind - it's Photobucket that's downsizing my photos.
have you tried dropbox?
I like it because I can auto upload at full resolution
When ever I take a screen shot or download an image the quality
If fine but whenever I upload it to Facebook or what's app that image gets blur
And the pictures size reduces please help

I think you need to give us a bit more information here. If you take a photo in high res, then send it to facebook from your gallery how does that look on facebook, I assume you mean its blurry on facebook?

if the image is quite small then it may look ok on your phone and blurry on FB as it is being upscaled, are you sure that these images are not just of a small resolution?. As as test take a photo in max resolution and send it to FB.
either Facebook is compressing them, or your resolution is low in the camera app, which is why they look ok on your small phone screen.
Yes this also happening with viber it is not the phone but it's the application converting image and decreasing size which lowers the quality unfortunately.

you still haven't answered the main questions, is the image you are starting with small?, if so its not a compression issue, take a picture in high res and send it to facebook, if its clear then the other images are just small. There is no auto compression when sending images to facebook I am aware of and therefore nothing to fix.

how are you talking a screen shot exactly? I just took one using POWER+HOME which pushed it into my gallery, from there i sent it straight to facebook. Its not pin sharp but its perfectly viewable. Can you paste a pic of what yours looks like on here?

Screen shot taken with power and home and is blurry
Sending on Facebook messenger or hangouts.
Screenshot is taken at HD resolution, so there is no chance to be blurry. Responsable with picture resize is gallery. Delete gallery data and cache and try afterwards. I use all types of social apps and apart of instagram, no one is resising pictures by itself without notice.

Something strange here with the S3...
A while ago Google (finally!) fixed that long withstanding 96x96 pixel limit for Gmail contacts (not G+), as well as introducing 720x720 contact image size in JellyBean.
Editing photos in Gmail contacts now has a new interface and larger file size is allowed. However, on the S3 they still look crappy low-res.
Phone running latest 4.1.2 official, not rooted.
Any ideas what needs to be done? Thx.
Post a screen capture for better understanding.
For me it's locking ok. But i'm rooted (Custom rom 4.2.2)

I'm on 4.1.2 and contact photo is high res. I did take the photo and set it using the phone, not through gmail contacts.
You have to enter the details of each contact with photos to let it render the high res picture. You'll see contact picture will be sharper after a second or two.
ok seems re-editing the contacts images' (re-add picture) in google mail and resync-ing on the S3 did the trick.
All high-res now....too bad there's a stupid translucent bar at the top when receiving a call, most heads get cut off.......
