Question about an icon in my text message log... when viewing all of my messages there are two contacts names with an "x" in a circle (icon) on the far right side of the column. Anyone have any idea what this means? I googled it can't find anything...
By the way I'm using unamed 1.3 rom
I'm pretty sure you are looking at their google talk status.. You should also see green and red circles for friends who are signed into gtalk.. It's not an issue and I don't know how you would get rid of it if it bothered you..

Here's the thing... it doesn't do anything. Also... why wouldn't it show up on all the numbers? Neither one is on Google+ and the only other accounts I have are FB & Twitter and everyone in the message list is linked to both.
i'm pretty sure thats their google talk status. If they're signed out of gtalk, it will appear as grey or an 'x' (depending on the rom or theme you are running). I can't think of anything else it would be. As as test, look at their contact in your address book, it will probably have the same icon. If not, i'm at a loss as to what else it could be.

Thanks for the feedback! As stated above neither person has Google+... not only that Google+ does not sync with contacts in any way as far as I can tell.

you dont need google+. if you signed into google talk at least once on your phone, then that icon may appear. no google+ needed.
Gtalk and google+ I think are not the same. Gtalk is connected to your gmail account because everyone who uses gmail is on gtalk. So my guess is that you have their emails and they use Android or previously used gtalk/ email you through gmail. ~ my guess.

I dont think they are the same, but I dont know that for sure. However I have never even opend the app, so that eliminates that I think. I looked over the user manual, didnt find anything there... Im using unamed rom, I dont think its rom based.
Nope, not ROM based.. Ask those friends to sign into gtalk, their status (the grey circle) should then change as well.. I'm 100% positive it's gtalk related because I have grey, red, and green circles by many of my contacts.. I'm just not sure how it got picked up with certain contacts of yours if you say you never signed into gtalk on your phone..

Didn't know if this was the best place to put this or not, but I'm looking for an app that will allow me to enter my Facebook and Twitter status without having to open up a full program, just by typing it all in the today screen field. Think Skyfire's "Update My Status" function but on the today screen like how the optional search bar field works.
I have a 2nd today screen on my Rhodium that I use to manage a few apps that aren't TF3D friendly, and have room for a few short lines for me to type my status into Facebook and Twitter while on the go. I like how Skyfire has the options to globally change status on both FB and Twit at the same time, so if you know of something that will do that, please point me in the right direction! I've heard about the Twitter tab for TF3D, but would rather update status through FB instead of through Twit because of the 140 character limits.
All help on this subject, including how you currently update your status quickly without having to load Skyfire or enter in a mobile browswer or through texts, would be greatly appreciated!

that is PERFECT for Twitter, wow, exactly what I was looking for.... and like you said, now to find one that does Facebook as well! I've seen people link their FB and Twit status, is that something to look into and just use this for quick, 140 character updates?
EDIT - that only works for those who don't have "protected" Twitter accounts.... oh well!

Worked on the first try and my Twitter status is protected. Doesn't take 30mins to an hour to update like the stupid Twitter app on Facebook does, and even Tweeter didn't work for me. Was so tired of having to wait for status updates that are time-sensitive to post on FB using Twitter, and this works!!! Thought I'd pass on the good news!

Sorry if this is something that's been answered else where, but I've been searching the last three days and haven't found an answer - it's the only big thorn in my side about my phone.
I've got my Vibrant set to sync with my Google Calendar, and my Exchange calendar. When I look at the appointments, they're colored based on which calendar they're coming from - that's awesome.
Except the colors are near impossible to see! My Exchange calendar is purple with black text, and the Google calendar is maroon with black text. I'd love to change it to something lighter so there is more contast and actually be able to see my appointments!
Anyone know if it's possible to do? Or is this something that I could fix/change if I go to the default Android Calendar app? Any help would be appreciated!

You can change the color of the Google Calendar by logging into the calendar on a computer and changing it there. As for the Exchange Calendar, I expect it's similar but I don't use it so I'm not sure.

Yep, I knew about Gmail, and that one is okay, it's the Exchange one that really bugs me as it's the one I use all the time!
My exchange shows up as purple with black text too. I have tried removing various calendars. Removing and re-adding and the exchange is always purple with black text. It sucks.
You are lucky with purple, i have it dark navy, so with black text on it it's almost impossible to read.. i hate you samsung for that!

Get Pocket Informant from the Market. You can change your Exchange calendar color & uninstall - the new color will persist.

The only thing I've found to work is to delete my exchange account and re-add. It cycles through different colors each time.

i wonder how would it do with the Battery? is it gonna be battery friendly or a totally drain???
Im hoping it doesn't, because when they updated a little while back, facebook was 15% of my battery use!! now I only use it when i need it!!
Facebook isn't really eating my battery at all and already tried the chat it's great. Now we don't have to find another app just to use chat in Facebook.
Since it supports push notification, it should save battery on froyo.

So does that mean that we will have to have a 2.2 ROM for push notifications to work for the FB app? I'm still on 2.1 but looking to jump to 2.2 soon.
I'm on 2.2 and push notifications aren't working for me. I have them enabled of course and if you notice it has options for "Friend Requests, Messages, and Event Invites."
I have had a couple wall comments and comments on my pictures and got no notifications. How stupid is it that you only get push notifications for those three things and not comments on your stuff?

this is a big step for android facebook...yet somehow, it is still utter garbage. and now that it has chat (which i will admit is a nice feature, except you cant stay permanently logged in), the only thing holding it back is that it STILL only notifies you of messages, events, and friend requests (no wall, likes, photo tags, i.e. none of the important ones)
i still firmly believe that Bloo 1.5 is the best Facebook app available to android, even though it is no longer on the market. It provides ALL notifications (you can set time frame for how often it checks) and a perfectly functioning chat feature, and birthday reminders, and you can opt to always be logged in to chat unless otherwise specified.
If anyone is interested in the .apk, let me know and ill post it. (it was free, so its not considered warez, right?)
Facebook for blackberry was the best pretty much everything that happened I knew about it very quikly have not enjoyed facebook got android at all hope it gets better

I am trying to figure out how to get rid of the persons callback number in text messages(after the name, its displays (M ##########): before the msg)...
Strangely, I've noticed for some people it shows just their name without the cb# in each response(the way I want it!) though for others it shows the call back number in each txt they send....any idears?
This is what I want every txt identity to look like...for some reason this person is the only one that doesn't display the cb#

This appears to be correct. I don't have email addys for most of my contacts and one that I did showed her number. I added an email addy to one that did not show number and now it does show her number. Also showing my bro's number and I have two numbers for him but no email addy.

Seems like thats it! Ones with no cb# doesnt have emails nor linked to facebook...
However, when I tried deleting the ones with emails/cb#'s, it wont let me...and they are the ones linked to facebook. I tried deleting them manually though wouldnt let me...hmphh might hafta do without fb links.

When I add a direct dial shortcut to home screen, the contact photo appears with it. But soon after, with no apparent cause I can connect, the photo disappears. I can use apps, turn the screen on and off - no change. It almost seems it's related to time. It stays about 10 minutes and then it's gone. I know this sounds crazy.
I am using Go Launcher (new to it, having preferred Launcher Pro), so don't know if that's the problem.
Anyone else have this happen?

I re-added contact shortcuts with photos today a couple of hours ago, and they seemed to stay, but when I just checked, one has already disappeared (not the contact, just the photo - the photo is still attached when I go into contacts, just not the direct dial shortcut).
I'm thinking of doing a hard reset and starting fresh, not because of this one problem, but because I think it might be an indicator.
I bought the phone from a guy who only had it 3 months (perfect condition), and who told me he did a hard reset. And he took his SIM. AT&T set it up for my account, as I assumed it was restored to factory because of what he told me. Then when I went to add my photos, I discovered his were still there (seriously, Dude, do all men have their male body parts on their phones?).
So I think I should start totally fresh, and see if that fixes any of these little problems. Also, sound notifications and ringers are not always the same.
I of course have factory ROM, no rooting or flashing, and it is locked to AT&T.

No, not Facebook contacts. I don't even do Facebook. The inconsistency is what drives me crazy. Yesterday one out of 5 disappeared. I put it back on this morning, and all 5 are there for now.
It's a problem with Go Launcher. I uninstalled it fully, synced my Facebook pictures, synced Google so that it would save, and then reinstalled Go Launcher and set up my direct dial shortcuts again. Haven't had a problem since.
