4.136V as well
What do I do, shut my phone off for a few mins? How do I prevent this and why does it get so high?
UnNamed ROM
During CPU use and/or charging, heat from the CPU also heats up the battery, however at those temps the battery is still safe to use, its not until 120F+ that I would be worried.
Also...a fully charged 3.7V cell phone batter should read 4.2V, so you are still with in the safe limits for that too.

105.8 is not high at all - not even remotely.
4.136v is not high either. Voltage goes up to 4.2 volts near the end of a charge cycle.
105.8ºF is 41ºC. Lithium batteries become damaged at temperatures in the 70ºC range. 158ºF. As stated, charging heats the battery some, and discharging heats the battery some. Provided the battery voltage is less than 4.2V and greater than about 3.1V, this kind of temperature is not a problem.
I noticed mine doing something similar a couple times over the past few days. I would use it for a few minutes to play a game or watch a video, then close that app. The phone would remain extremely hot to the touch and eat through my battery like crazy. After about 15 minutes of it still hot the first time, I went in and killed the entire process for the app I had been using. Then waited for another 30-45 minutes for it to cool off, but it stayed hot as hell. I had to power off the phone completely and it cooled off very quickly.
The second time it happened, I don't remember doing or playing anything graphic/cpu intensive. Just went and plugged in the phone to charge while I slept. I woke up and it was doing the same thing where it was insanely hot to the touch. I left it unplugged for about 30 minutes and it stayed hot. I went in an powered off again and it was cool in under a minute.
So far this has only happened twice in the entire month I have had/used the phone. I remember someone else reporting similar issues before in a different thread as well, but couldn't find it again. I didn't know I could pull the battery's temp so I don't have that info from when it happened. Where did you find that temp? I'll post it the next time it happens. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this other than charging heating up the battery?
*#0228# in your dialer.
Is your phone stock?
Thanks for the code. I'm running UnNamed 1.2.0 at the moment. I might try upgrading to the latest 1.3.1 of it to see if that helps.
I had 44% left on my battery, ran the battery stats code you provided, hit back button, and now the battery shows 16% left. Not sure how that happened in the 10 seconds it took to read the temp.
I'll post the temp when it starts acting screwy again though.
What is your voltage and can you post a screenshot of your battery stats graph? Also if you use setCPU, what profiles do you use.
Current voltage is 3950mV and temp is 36*C. This is under normal operation while charging. I don't use setCPU or do any OC/UV. I am trying to upload a SS of the graph through the app on my phone, but it just keeps saying "Receiving from server" every time I hit submit and then staying at the reply screen. I'll try again once I get home from work.
SS is below.

Do a full charge, at 4.2v of charge pull the battery and let the phone sit there for a few minutes, then plug the phone back in, use BetterBatteryStats to register partial wakelocks and fix things as necessary.

I just had mine drop from 38% to 16% after this as well. This is really screwy. I don't know what's going on but my battery %'s are all over the place when I reboot.
[EDIT] I forgot to come back and mention that after the battery dropped to 16%, it slowly climbed up to around 22% before coming back down again. No reboots or anything, just after waking it up a few times from sleep.

i've had pretty decent battery life with my thunderbolt. two things have happened recently - i didn't charge overnight and the phone was dead in the morning (was at 75% when i went to bed) and today, battery dropped from full charge to 60% within 2 hours with nothing going on at all. today when i picked up the phone after being idle, it was very warm. after a reboot it cooled down and the battery burn went back to normal.
my only conclusion is that some program or another is chewing up the battery bigtime. the question is what is it?? anyone have any thoughts on how to figure this out? i have most things shut off, have stopped blockbuster, etc.
this is a great phone and we just have to figure out what the misbehaving programs are....
eric
This is what I'm thinking as well. mine died at 4am from being at FC at 12a. It hadn't done this previously. Go to the 4g signal thread and see if anything you have running in the back ground matches up with mine.
You can try a program called spare parts. Look under battery history and check out all the options in there. I had the same problem starting last night and today, but I haven't figured it out yet either.
Have you restarted the phone? I have much less drain since doing so. Don't fast boot it though, it didn't help when I tried to fast boot it first.
System Panel from the Market might reveal issues as well.
Also take a look at the Current Widget and its logging features.
I've had my suspicions as well about something running in the background. Sometimes it seems like the battery just drains endlessly. I made a profile in setcpu to limit the max clock speed to 245 while the screen is off only. Ever since then my battery life has been awesome.
This morning after being off the charger for 24 hours with moderate usage the day before, an hour and a half with screen on and 45 minutes of phone calls. Still sitting at 47% battery left.

System, panel is easily the best tool for this issue. Free version is great, a t the paid version gives you specific app tracking.

That should tell you what's chewing up your battery turn down the brightness on your display a bit and disable Blockbuster and your battery life will be noticably better.
Did you recently download Speedtest's app? Yesterday my battery was draining unusually fast, and when I pulled up battery stats it said Speedtest was taking up 85% of my battery! I uninstalled it when my battery was around 80% (after an hour of being unplugged) and my battery went back to awesome. Got home last night about 14 hours after leaving with 40% battery left.
So, I'm not sure if anyone has this problem. I pull my phone off the charger in the morning when I wake up, and it's immediately at 96%. Is this a defect with my phone, or is it something I can fix?
Thanks
It's normal. It's actually better on the battery this way. There were some debates about the EVO and kernels that performed SBC charging.
This has been covered in another thread but here it is again...
HTC has used a new charging method on the e3d so it will charge to 100% then stop charging until it hits 95% at which point it will start charging again.

i use the battery monitoring widget.. it has a log that shows you the actual % of the battery while charging.. sometimes the phone will be displaying 100% while charging but in the logs you can see the battery is decreasing and not at 100%.
which is why when you pull it off the battery drops right away.
I'm glad I decided to search first, otherwise I would have the whole XDA community after me wanting to kill me.
Anyways, I have one of those notification icons that show me the battery percentage, but it NEVER reaches 100%. I am constantly checking it to see if I have reached 100% and nothing. Even when I leave it plugged it all night, it only gets to 99%.
I have also tried *#*#4636#*#* and it also shows 99%. Is this normal?
Your battery will technically never be at 100%. As even the most minute drain places it at 99%. Doubtful that HTC is that precise, I understand your frustration
Ok, but my evo 4g WOULD show 100%. That's why I was confused/worried when my 3D showed only 99% max.
This is a frustrating quirk with these phones. I also use battery monitor widget (love it BTW) and its pretty clear how the phone acts around a full charge. See below, graph of battery percentage overnight sitting on the charger.

If i happen to pull the phone off the charger when it is actually full (or as close to as it will get) then it seems like the battery really lasts much longer throughout the remainder of the day. If i pull it at say a 95% mark then it seems to be down to 80-85% by the time im out the door in the morning after a few emails / dickin around. If i pull it when its full then i only seem to lose a few percent, maybe up to as much as 5% by the time im out the door....
SBC kernel fix / help remedy any of these behaviors?
"Li-ion cannot absorb overcharge, and when fully charged the charge current must be cut off. A continuous trickle charge would cause plating of metallic lithium, and this could compromise safety. To minimize stress, keep the lithium-ion battery at the 4.20V/cell peak voltage as short a time as possible."
Don't panic, it's all as it should be. Don't try to outsmart your smartphone.
Recently they found that charging to a little less than 4.2V you get more charge/discharge cycles out of your battery.

I live in a fairly cool place and mine gets up to 45 when charging. I suggest take all cases off and charge the phone near a fan or AC. If you cant leave it on a cool metal ssurface screen down and it should help also avoid using the phone while charging as it gets even hotter, maybe charge it overnight. its not your phones problem its just u live in a hot place.

Sounds like you have a process running in the background that is using up a lot of CPU cycles, causing the battery to drain at the same rate as it is charging. Then after doing this long enough, the battery gets hot and the overtemperature protection kicks in. I recommend checking which process is chewing up CPU cycles. You can use OS monitor to check in real time when it happens again.
I never had the.problem with my htc desire in similar heat. This has been the hottest day in 20 years so I'll see what happens tomorrow. Thanks all for your input.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I don't think the issue is caused by environment temperature. It is more of a charge/discharge issue where heat is generated from the inside of the phone from being overworked.
It can usually be solved by restarting the phone. Those running process would generally get killed. Then, start to charge your phone as usual.
Kinda rabdom but my batter just went to 67 C!!! It didnt let me charge!

Hi. I searched the forum for this problem. Experienced exactly the same thing. Just got an GSII three days ago. Experienced this a problem few minutes ago. Started charging my phone when I got home. It was at 36% at 46deg c. Then I talked to my friend on the phone. Checked back 30 mins later and it was at 33% at 53 deg c. It was the hottest the phone was ever. I panicked and unplugged it and shut the phone down. Turned it on 5 mins later and I just plugged it now.
Is my unit faulty?

I had this problem with one of ours (I bought 2 on the same day). Everyone told me it was apps etc., but they were identically configured and only one had the problem. After the 3rd time in 4 days when it did it (twice on charge and once when it wasn't on charge) I returned the phone, Samsung tested it and gave me a new one which is just fine. I believe it is a known but not well advertised fault - I've seen a few people with the problem posting on forums. In every case Samsung has given them a new phone and this has fixed the problem.
The phone runs red hot (too hot to hold for more than a few seconds) and sucks the life out of the battery even if it is charging - can drop from 75-80% to 15% in a few minutes.
Is anyone else finding it extremely difficult to get through the day without struggling to keep your SIII alive? I thought the battery life was supposed to be superior to its predecessors? I'm a first time Android user but I did not think I would have to lower my brightness all the way and constantly monitor my devices battery life.
do you have some dumbass apps draining your battery?
i found my culprit and it's Friendcaster without even turn the notification on
get Badass battery monitor to find it or just use the one in setting
I'm finding the battery life is great, and lasts a whole day with no problems
It really depends on what do on your phone.
Try posting a screenshot of your battery stats. Android has an inbuilt monitor with each app and its usage being displayed. Easy method to spot a drain.
I just downloaded that in addition to my other app but there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary that seems to be killing my battery. Most of it is coming from my screen but I keep at it 25% brightness the whole time. Super odd
I usually get around 16 hours of standby and at least 4 hours or more of screen time.
You should try Watchdog Task Manager. It will be able to tell you if an app is running and using more processes than it should. Also I've never used badass battery stats, but better battery stats will tell you if anything is holding a wakelock. It is free for XDA members so you don't have to buy it on the market. Just search for it

On saturday I drove for 4 hours streaming music via bluetooth to my car. Used navigation for about 40 minutes with the screen on the whole time. Took a few calls, sent a few sms's. Read a few forums using data. Got home that night with about 40% left. That'll do me.
Maybe I'm just freaking out about the whole battery situation? I just expected it to be a lot longer and a lot better. I constantly worry if I'll be able to make past 10PM when I start my day at 7AM.
On wifi with little to no voice signal that cuts out frequently, I might get seven hours of screen on time today D:

I'm getting huge drain from Cell Standby.
It'll lose 30% overnight. I keep checking for a software update. It's got to be the modem.
I'm holding off on rooting and custom ROMS until I know for sure this is fixable in firmware.
My phone's on LE6 and is from Thailand.
I see that you have poor signal reception
maybe that's why
last time I went underground, just 5 mins of standby it took away 10% of my battery
when it searches for signal it drains a lot
you could also try to disable auto search for network
go to setting>more settings > network operators and select it manually

Super idea ) i've done that today. All seemed good. 2,5 % awake is fine
Anyone else seeing issues with really inaccurate battery readings? I'll be at 99% charged for 15+ hours sometimes, and then things will drop rapidly or even just die at 20%. I've also noticed when charging that it'll get to 99% within an hour or so and then spend 30-45 mins at 99%.
On top of this, my phone battery just died at around 55%. Are others just draining their battery all the way to try to calibrate?

I always calibrated battery by draining it all the way and charging it all the way atleast first 3 times.

What rom and Kernel are you on. Also what mods if any such as battery indicators and such have you put on your phone?
@dragonstalker: I'm running stock with the latest OTA update. I'm using Batterybot to display the indicator in the notification bar, but the reading is the same from the stock battery display.
@amit_sen: I've had the phone for a few months.

Doesnt do anything for Li batteries its fud.
For the last 2 days, my battery has drained overnight and is dead by the morning. The first time, I didn't think of it. This time, I looked at the history and it drains within maybe 6 hours without the screen on, being awake, or anything. I turn off all of my radios besides cellular at night. So I have no clue what could be causing the battery drain. Any ideas? Here is a pic of the history

Is anyone using battery calibration apps? I know some of the custom ROMs like Hatka Supreme list that they include some sort of function in those regards.
I thought even on stock there was a way to erase battery stats so that you could recalibrate. No? Could of sworn I had seen the option when I first got the phone. Could be wrong too...

I downloaded Gsam and it says that my radio is taking up most of my battery. Any idea why this is happening because its never done this before? I used to get at least 2 days of battery usage. I charged it until it was full yesterday, let it sit overnight, and this morning it was @ 20%. I'm on newts M7 and z's B5.4. I've been on this combination for the majority of the time I've had my phone an no problems until now. And I don't think its the kernel because the same thing happens when I had it on 5.1. I noticed I was on global mode and I changed it to LTE/CDMA. Who the hell knows, that might be what's causing it. We'll see. Any help is appreciated.
