[Q] Branded, straight to Villain? + more questions. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I would have posted this as a reply in the debranding thread but I was not allowed to since I have less than 10 posts. Someone did post a similar question there but it was not answered.
I am guessing that I do not need to debrand my rom if I am planning to install Villain 3.0, do I? All the boot animations, and whatever has been branded will be gone right? What about the CSC number? That is used to see what region I am in, for market purposes or something? How do I make that the default UK one?
I would first install CWM, then flash Villain? Do I need to root it in the process? The rom I am installing will be rooted right, so, I don't actually have to do anything?
What are the codes like umm.. XWKDD?
There seem to be so many codes like that, I don't see what they are, google didn't really explain anything... does each country have a different code?
By installing a custom rom, would that code be changed?
And, I tried to look for this as well, there aren't any other screen off animations, like the CRT one are there? I will be very happy to have the CRT one, but, I'm just curious.
Thank you very much!
-edit. i don't see why this thread was tagged as 'epic fail', and 'refusal to search', i don't see how i failed something or won something, what is the main goal to fail/win? if the objective was me finding answers, then i would not say i failed, especially when i sought out help from the forum, thus would it not be you who failed me (an not really, as you guys have no duty to answer questions) and how is anything 'epic' about this? what is the difference between tagging this thread as 'fail', and tagging it as 'epic fail'? would 'fail' simply mean that i made a spelling mistake or something? honestly you guys... aha
and about the searching, i did search, i did not ever say that i refused to search, thus you cannot say i did refuse to search, as how do you know what i did or did not do? i did search just obviously i could not find specific answers, if you have something wrong with telling me the answer when you know it, then you could give me a clue or something? if you know where in a thread i will find an answer then sure, but it is difficult when no search results seem useful, and no offence but i do not want to read 400 pages of posts about something. but yeah, ok, thanks.
i am happy that i got one reply at least.

Damn... so many questions ... xeu csc is for uk... most roms comes with multicsc so you can choose (uk is default)
If you install CWM you wil gain root access
You have to root if you wanna use Villain
The letters arent that important... just choose the newest rom

Ok and so, there are different ways of rooting right?
So, if I install CWM via Odin, and then Villain, I am set to go?
I read that some kernels come with CWM, like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
So it is possible to have two clockworkmod recoveries at the same time? Would this be bad?
I thought the kernel and the recovery were separate. Maybe I am misunderstanding something.
Due to the fact that I will use Villain, I would be on ninphetamine or something, it seems this has CWM in it, so, I am worried about having CWM on my system twice.
Can anyone clear this up?

thanks for your reply

it is way faster. and has some tools. and is rooted.
To add to what all above members have contributed , I can say that
Modaco is a master chef and adds all tasty ingridients and spices to our taste.
sorry can we just take a step back a moment? (sorry to sort of hijack this thread with another question, though related)
can someone explain what rooted means in terms of these phones?
im also new to using smart phones, great phone, though when something goes wrong its bit more tricky to sort out.

you can execute commands as user "root". means you can do everything, including access every part of the filesystem, delete/replace/alter every file. wifi or bluetooth tethering needs it for example. also droidwall, which can control web access for apps.
ok i understand that. so does that mean i could delete things like the stocks n shares app along with peep and other things i dont need or want?
Would this enable me to change the colour of the menu bar at the bottom or even the whole theme itself? if so could someone direct me on what to do?dont want to mess anything up.
but also as buzjay asks is the new update neccesary?
sorry these questions must sound so simple lol just want to make sure before i go delving into the bowls of the phone.
thanks
- yes
- yes. ask someone in the themes section who already did it or find out by looking at their themes.
- it is not "necessary". your phone does make calls without it, doesn't it?

Android NOOOOOOOB

Ok guys so ive just bought a uk orange branded hero, and i dont have a clue about android or linux for that matter, so i hope you guys could answer a few questions for me, ive looked at the stickys in the android development section, and now im more confused than before lol
1) What is rooting? and what is the process ment to achieve?
2) like i said i have a uk orange branded hero, now what is the process i need to do before i can start flashing roms? it seems a little more complicated that just flashing hspl like am used to lol
root is the system administrator of a unix system. you might wanna google that if you don't know what it is.
depending on your fastboot version you need to flash the custom recovery image, from there on it is a piece of cake. if you don't need to downgrade your system then flashing the custom recovery is also a piece of cake.

My intention is to give balanced advice to all those who intend to modify their new Android.
Ask yourselves, what do you intend to do with root access, if you want your phone to do all simple tasks, no need to root. I would say get familiar with new OS before deciding "Root Way."

Rooting is the process of gaining full system access to your device. This has pros and cons (you can modify anything and really tweak the guts of your system...but you can also truely fubar the whole thing a lot easier too). If you don't have a need to root, I generally advise against it.
Flashing custom ROMs are an unsupported method of customization...but it, like rooting, has some potential gains. Some ROMS give more speed, some ROMs include more features that you may or may not want. Flashing ROMs are the reasons most people root (as to flash the ROM, you need root access)
Thanx for all your help guys, i read all that info and spent the last 2 days learning lol 2day i sucsessfully downgraded my rom, routed and flashed modaco 2.9
Goodlad!
Excellent. Now please tell our forum members which road you drove to get to root, so that someone with same enthusiam can also do same. You dont have to write whole page, just majot points and references or links.
Thanks.

[Q] Does Phone Need To Be Unlocked To Flash Firmware?

Hello.
I've looked and looked and looked but cannot find a definitive answer to my question. My sincerest apologies to those who think it's another stupid question.
Does my Galaxy Ace on Orange need to be unlocked before I can flash new firmware? I have not done enough posts yet to mention websites so I hope you'll understand the following www sammobile com - dots in appropriate places!! - stated that I either get the phone unlocked or use provider firmware. I am currently on S5380BVKQA but I hear good things about both KPH and KS2.
I am a noob, but a determined noob. I will not let a minor hindrance defeat me before I've even begun my Android experience.
Cheers

Vodafone UK S3, rooting and custom rom install

First post, hopefully someone will be able to answer some questions I've got.
I've previously had an HTC Desire and held off rooting it as I didn't feel I needed it. Towards the end of my contract I found I was running out of space but still held off rooting it incase I messed it up and rendered it bricked.
I've got a S3 16gb coming on Tuesday from UK Network Vodafone.
I've done a fair bit of researching in the last few days on this forum but just want a few things cleared up.
I'm aware I have to make sure I root using a guide for my version of phone. How would I find that out exactly? Is it going to be a network specific version or will 'International' cover it?
Once rooted I'm going to put Omega Mod on as it seems to be the one to go for. Will I still be able able to use all the features of the phone as standard (I'm thinking more along the lines of the play store and other things that require a sign in)
If I ever get bored of it or want an 'unrooted' phone again (if I were to sell it, or claim on warrenty for example), would I be able to flash back to my standard rom?
What are the main benefits/disadvantages to rooting and installing this particular rom?
Is there anything that will no longer work after rooting/flashing Omega?
Finally, is there ANYTHING else I need to take into consideration before beginning?
Thanks alot

[Guide+ROMS]Odin Flash+Root Guide & Stock Firmwares LE4/6/8/9/F/D, LF1/2
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I will try and answer all your questions in the order you posted them.
1. Your device will be an international model so this guide will work and all the info you need to root and unroot is there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
2. I am presuming here you mean Omega ROM and not Omega Aosp, if so Omega ROM is a stock Samsung ROM so all features that work on stock will work on omega. To find out the differences between different types of ROMs I suggest going to this thread and looking at the different ROM descriptions under different settings.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
3.See the link in point 1. I smashed the screen of my first S3 and had to claim on insurance and this worked for me
4. This is a question that I cannot really answer as I feel it is specific to each person, however their are plenty of threads on XDA that answer this just use google or the seach bar.
5.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656 It looks stable and there are no bug reports in the OP (original post) so yes everything should be working but just in case before you flash any ROM always make a nandroid backup in recovery. (if unsure on nandroid backups seach XDA and google)
I think that answers all your questions but the best advice I can give you is to read and re-read every thing you can find on rooting and such. Like you I also had a desire before my S3 and before I rooted that I spent atleast a week reading around on various different forums about what to do. You need to be confident in what you are doing before you do it and know what is going on.
That way if something goes wrong you can provide as much info as possible and and get more help!
Hope this helped

[Q] Hello, I need help

Hello,
I need certain help. I've looked everywhere in order to find those custom ROMs for my tablet 'GoClever Tab R75', but to no avail.
I've found a thread on these forums somewhere, but the guy who replied on the already asked question was Polish and I didn't understand a single thing he wrote. Translation awful, as usual.
He did, however, provide 2 links for some "Softwares" and "Kernels", none of which I understood. I don't know what these Kernels are, provided I'm totally new to this whole rooting thing, nor do I know which "Software" to choose from all of those further links following that very link the Polish guy posted.
I just want to know if there are ANY custom roms for my tablet, because I just won't apply those Softwares or Kernels this guy posted knowing nothing about them and what they are supposed to do. Not that I'm saying that this Polish guy is unscrupulous or anything similar, I'm just saying that I don't understand any of those 'intermixed numbers and letters' in the descriptions of those links he provided.
Thanks in advance.

Can you not google translate on the page that the link takes you to??
Hello, thanks for the quick response.
Sure I can translate, but as I've told you, I'm new to all this rooting stuff and I just don't know what those kernels are of which software to choose.
I could just use someone's help, someone's who's experienced with these things to tell me whether there is a custom ROM for my tablet or not, that's all.
Can you briefly tell me what those kernels are, I'm just curious.
I'll find a way to install it but I just need to know how to find it. (the ROMs)
Anyone?
