Hey everyone, I seem to be having issues when using wifi. When home I try to use wifi and it connects and seems to be working fine. After a while when sitting idle everything will just stops working. The phone itself seems fine, but i'll stop getting email and anything that uses internet stops working as well. To get things to start working I have to either toggle wifi or just turn wifi off.
Any ideas?
Check your battery/sync settings. If you changed to normal sync/wifi/etc will turn off after 15 minutes unless you manually change it.
Even at Performance power setting, I found my Wi-Fi would still go to "sleep" after sitting for a while. The culprit I think is the "Sleep Mode", which is enabled by default. Changing that to manual or even off should solve the problem.

You have to go to Advanced under WiFi Settings (Hit menu button) and turn always on.
Mine has the same "problem." I'm ok with WiFi turning off to save battery. I haven't been able to reliably get it to wake up.

Didn't know that, thanks!
Good call, man. I think that's why mine randomly shuts off too! Im gonna start setting sleep mode for when I sleep every night.... It says it shuts off networks when screen is off but when I turn it on, WiFi is on right away...when you turn WiFi off it takes much longer than that to power up so I don't know what networks its shutting down lol

Under wifi settings>advanced>Wifi sleep policy. selecting turn off wifi when screen is off setting does not seem to take effect.
Tested by pinging it and continues to ping even 5-10 mins after screen is turned off.
anybody else having the same issue ?
Have the same issue, want my wifi to turn off when the screen turns off but wifi stays connected.
Only thing I can think of is that i restored my access point with titanium.
Can this cause any problem and if it can, can I delete the restored settings?
My sleep policy works fine when turning screen off. When i turn on the screen, the wi-fi icon appears after a few seconds. Also the battery usage shows that wi-fi is off when screen is off and phone inactive. Might be related to one of your apps that conflicts with the wi-fi policy. Happened to me when using an app that had options to turn on/off wi-fi scanning.

Weird, will have to check this up.
But as far as I know I don't have any other app that manages wifi.
As you can see in my screenshot, wifi is on at all time even when sleep policy is set to sleep when screen off.
Currently I'm not connected to any wifi since I don´t have any in range at work but it looks exactly the same when I´m connected to my home network.

Have you tried setting the sleep policy to 'never'?
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I did a factory reset (XXKI4) and it was still the same. Screen off, policy set to turn off when screen is off but I can still ping the phone after a few minutes.....?!?
EDIT: I remembered ;-) Had the same thing on my original Galaxy over a year ago.
Needed to edit a database:

Cant save sleep settings.....
I have a slightly stranger problem that's just started. I'm aware of the situation where wifi takes 15 mins to turn off after screen turns off was never bothered with that aspect.
However, since today I found wifi was staying on continuously - checked in settings & wifi sleep policy had reverted to 'never' - I always had it set to 'sleep when screen turns off'.
The problem now is that I change it to sleep when screen turns off' and 'save' this setting but it's not saving - when wifi goes off & then back on again or if I reboot phone, it reverts to 'never'.
Any ideas folks?
Back-up data and factory reset .
jje
Would like to know this too.
Wouldn't like to back up and reset everytime this happens.
Also couldn't find the files in /dbdata folder as indicated by the Galaxy S thread pointed to.
Is there any other solution?
someone says using static IP will solved this issue but It didn't...
Any news on that?

Me too! Any word on that?
Had the same problem, where the battery no longer lasted the whole day.
When I checked under "Settings/ Battery" and clicked on the graph I could see that whilst the phone was sleeping, WiFi was not.
I have done a few "factory resets." All seemed okay to start off with and then after a while I would notice the same problem.
This last time I found that "Google Now" is the culprit.
Just click on the blue Google Icon, under Applications, then bring up the menu, click on "Privacy and Accounts" then "Google Location Settings", then "Location Access" and make sure "Use wireless networks" is not checked. (also available from "Settings/ Location services")
That fixed it for me!!

Mine is not checked and its still keep 'on' for almost hour...
as far as I know its better to be on wifi instead of data, eat less battery... but anyway I guess its have its own wakelocks...
Maybe I just recently noticed, but i cant remember it doing this before:
does everyones tab turn its wifi off when it goes on "standby" ie: the screen turns off? I don't remember it doing this before, i am stock, unrooted.
Everytime i press the power button to see the time or to do something, i notice that at the bottom tray it says no internet connection, but almost as quickly as I slide to unlock my wifi is restored. I have my tab next to me most of the day while I work on my computer, and rely on it to use gtalk, but if it turns wifi off, then I don't get notifications
is there a setting that i have checked or something? I have power saver off.
thank!
Go into your wifi settings, then go into wifi sleep policy, you can change it in there, having the wifi sleep with the screen off will save battery though, so unless you need constant updates or polling for apps I would leave it the way it is
thanks man, didn't see that setting. I am usally plugged in durign the day so setting it to never when pluggin in is exactly what i was looking for.

Try different security on router
Try this, on phone pad click *#0011# this takes you into service mode. click menu then click wifi this brings up a screen with info on it. There is a box which says on. press this so it says off then click done. Your wifi will stay connected until you shut the phone down. When you restart your phone go through the process again. A pain I know but it works.

Thanks colin, I've heard this before and helps somewhat with the sleeping wifi, but not with random disconnects/reconnects, ive been creating lots of threads tryna solve my issue, may return my handset
Cheers
I've got "keep wifi on during sleep" set to "Always". Have also used *#0011# to turn off wifi power save mode, but it still turns off the wifi radio.
Turning PSM off works for my however the battery drains upto 5 times faster! So much so it's better to just manually keep reconnecting rather than turning PSM off. Is there a someway of tweaking PSM to not disconnect?
I'm trying to figure out if my Edge is bad. When I turn the screen off, and come back to the phone a few minutes later, I'll get a notification stating it has connnected to my router. I've checked the settings and it states the wifi is set to be always on. I attempted a factory reset and still no luck. Sometimes it'll take a few moments before it even connects to the wifi again upon turning the screen on.
Do I have a bad phone?

I would check under the advanced settings for wifi, there's an option for what to do with wifi during sleep. That may be your problem.
I've already checked and it''s enabled.

I have the same thing happening. I noticed when I was backing pics on one drive
. It would always say that back up has stopped because there was no WiFi After turning the screen on again.
I just got my Edge yesterday, and I am having the same problem with wifi AND also that it stops seeing any wifi and I have to toggle it off and back on manually THEN it will instantly connect to my known network.
Dear @vaxick,
Dial *#0011# and click on more>>WiFi>>"WIFI Power save mode" try to disable this option and see what happens.
*it might drain your battery faster.

Thank you for this suggestion, unfortunately it had no effect as I have observed the same wireless disconnect behavior now with both the WiFi power save both on and off. Once the wireless disconnects it no longer see ANY wireless networks no matter where I go until I toggle the wireless off then back on again. Then it will see all wireless network present around me and instantly connect if there are any of my saved networks present. At this point I believe it is either a hardware or worse a software problem with my phone, but I am really at a loss to the exact nature of this issue.
Mine also has this issue when connected to 5GHZ SSID. Connecting to my 2.4GHZ SSID solves this problem completely for me

I hope that this is a hardware issue with my phone, as your "solution" is totally unacceptable for me, especially since my work place has bandsteering AP's that use the same SSID's for both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Yeah, i have to turn WIFI off whilst at work for the same reason. Certainly hoping it's just a software bug and will be fixed quickly as it is by no means an ideal workaround
I also see this kind of problem since last 1 week, here is how i noticed. i user viber messaging app and it shows status online if you are connected. Lot of my friends started complaining that my status is not continuously online and fluctuating so i started doing tests.
Moment my display turns off i started counter and in 10 minutes my status changes as last seen and whenever i open viber app again i am online.
second test: i tried doing the same with whatsapp and connected at web.whatsapp.com and same thing happens within 10 mins i see yellow bar appearing that my phone is disconnected so again i have to open whatsapp on phone to reconnect.
this is very annoying to see this kind of problem on new phones, especially when old phones are working flawless.
Kind of the same problem, but with GPS. Once I disabled the battery saver mode, it stopped disconnecting. Have you tried that?
Are you referring to power saving mode in battery settings. i did check and they are turned off. No idea what else i am missing here.
I tried re-installing viber but still after 10 mins its keep disconnecting.

I'm having the same issue on my regular non edge s6. This settings is not doing anything have it on always still always drops the wifi when going to sleep. Its driving me crazy no idea why its doing this
i did check and i have Keep WiFi on during sleep >> Always option but still drops, no clue whats wrong with my phone.
I had the same issue and solved it by changing my routers security from WPA2/Mixed Mode to WPA2 Personal. Since this change, it works fine on both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.

I received my Galaxy S 6 edge a week ago and I am having this same peculiar reconnecting issue to WiFi that has been described here.
Solution?
I was having this same issue and was unable to find any good solutions for it online, but eventually found something for me that worked through experimenting:
Find the above mentioned "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option (which is probably set to "Always" already), change it to "Never", and then change it back to "Always". Since doing this I haven't had it disconnect from the wi-fi once, where as before it would do it everytime the screen had been off for a few minutes.
The problem started happening sometime after I played with power saver mode, so I think it might be related to that. I know that the software has some other bugs related to power saving mode, as I had a previous problem where my softkeys stopped vibrating or lighting up, which ended up being related to not exiting ultra power saving mode correctly and was fixed by going re-enabling ultra power saving mode and exiting again.
Hi Guys,
I am facing a problem with the WiFi staying on on my brand new xz1.
In the Wifi preferences, under Advanced preferences, if i select "Never" for the option "Keep WiFi on during sleep", i have noticed that the Wifi turns off when the phone goes in sleep mode.
But the problem is that it does not turn back on. It stays off until i turn it back on.
Does anyone else also experience this or is my understanding off somewhere?
Thanks,
Prasad
No one else is experiencing this?
What could I be doing wrong or maybe i have set this wrong?
Any help guys?
Nope. I even noticed that since the latest update for my Z5 that wifi kinda doesn't work even tho it shows as connected after the phone has entered sleep. My XZ1 does the same. I'm assuming it's some new android power saving? My As soon as I unlock everything works fine again but if I'm downloading torrents or streaming movies to my tv i need to keep the phone plugged in so it doesn't sleep

If you select never it means: never keep wifi on during sleep = turn wifi off during sleep.
Select "always" if you want to have wifi always on.

The problem is your comprehension on the setting. Understand the setting and the options it is very clear once you understand the meaning of the setting.
You have set the phone to deny WiFi when screen off. Full stop
I experienced an issue on the first day where it would connect and then quickly disconnect while connecting to a public network. Haven't faced the issue since then again under the same circumstances.

Yes quite right.
I have set the phone tondeny wifi onky when the phone sleeps.
Does it bot mean then that when thw phone wakes up from sleep, the wifi should also turn back on?
That is how it works on other android devices.
But with xz1 once the device goes to sleep, wifi shuts down which is good.
But when i wake the device, wifi stays off. It does not turn back on.
Thanks for reading.

However I have the same setting applied (WiFi off during sleep.)
So I'll test this later and report back.

It works for me dude. WiFi signal reconnects as expected when screen is turned back on after a sleep.
All I can say is Sony's OTA updates since even my z3 have always caused issues. Try a factory reset.
Thanks for testing it out and glad to know there is no issue.
Will do a reset soon enough and report back though it might take a while as i am travelling.

Try turning off data. There is a setting that keeps the lte active for faster network switches. I have same issue. Don't notice it when data is off.
I am suffering the same Wi-Fi issue. It is only since the recent update this has occurred. I've contacted Sony to no avail. It's driving me mad.
Same here (FW:47.1.A.12.145) WIFI router is with atheros chipset.
When phone is going to "sleep" wifi is switching off (even if it is set to not do so).
It seems that flushing cache partition is fixing it for some time.
