I'd like to use my phone as a source to play streaming videos (SWF container in this instance) onto my DLNA enabled TV. This works fine over HDMI but I don't want the cables dangling all over my house ideally.
Any ideas on how this can be done? I know that it can be done with VLC on a PC which converts a stream into a video file which can be sent over DLNA. Is there something similar for Android?
Hi!
You can do the two ways, "to" and "from" the phone right...
I recommend you first install some good video players (maybe some codec issues i had). I have Vplayer and RockPlayer lite
Then, install iMediaShare, also on android market.
Hope it helps
Great app for the content that they have on there...will be buying the full version.
I want to watch a foreign channel that is in the SWF container though so are there any options for extending that onto my TV in real time?
Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone had any issues playing videos (of any type) to play properly on their tab and if so if they have found a way to fix it..?
Recently bought a tab 10.1, and no matter what file type I upload - avi, mkv, xvid, divx, mp4, m4v etc none will play without pixelation on playback.
I've converted with 5 different converters, played using moboplayer, vplayer, rockplayer, diceplayer and mxplayer.
Youtube playback is fine, I'm going to try streaming tonight see if that's fine.
Don't really know what else to do. So any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

What quality of vids are you playing? 720p should be fine with those player especially mobo and dice
I'm not playing HD quality. Most of my video files are normal quality avi's. Really I'd really like it to just play them but it won't play them without the pixelation.
K well I tried streaming a video from my MacBook Pro to my tab via wifi and it works perfectly...
Thoughts anyone?
How are you transferring the files onto your tab? I have a MAc book pro also and the only way I was able to transfer quickly was via the USB adaptor...
I'm using Diceplayer and have encountered no issues with play back and most of my files are downloads and avi, mkv etc. I just plug and play, no converting or anythign and not encountered any pixilation or play back issues.
Seems what works for some doesn't work for others...but if streaming worked for you, try the adaptor for getting your video's onto the tab.

I'm using Kies, and that seems to transfer at a reasonable rate. Not too painfully slow.

Have u tried transfer it manually using usb data cable from pc to tab?
i'm not suprised you're getting pixalation issues if you're trying to transfer using Kies. I found it an absolute joke but then again I am using a MAC.
Just suck it up and buy the USB adaptor...and transfer files via a USB stick or use WIFI explorer
Ya, Kies is as absolute joke on Mac.
Didn't think that it was the program that was causing my problems. I searched and searched for days and converted god knows how many types of files when all along it the useless program.
I just transferred some files via the hubby's PC through File Explorer and it's now playing perfectly.
Total fail of a program. Can't update firmware on Mac, can't upload files, it can't even update itself.
Cheers for all the help guys.
Why not instead of the USB cable, download SwiFTP and setup an FTP server on the tab? Then just FTP files to it using FileZilla on the PC or something?
So, I was visiting family over the holidays and had a .mov video on my phone. I wanted to play it for everyone but forgot to bring my hdmi cable. They have a Samsung SmartTV and thought I could stream the video via the wireless but no go. I can play the video through Rockplayer on my phone without issue but could not figure out anything to stream a .mov via DLNA.
Does anyone know how this can be done without converting the file type?
I'm gonna bump this one time. After that, will assume it can't be done.
I don't have a ton of experience with DLNA, but I know on my OG Evo, before the HDMI was hacked, it would only play videos that were played with what was called "videoview". Meaning that they were played on the stock player, and a service called "videoview" was activated.
I would assume videos over DLNA are alot the same, in that it will only show it if it's played through the stock video player. Because DLNA is not actually doing any mirroring. It's just passing the video on.
So, if the stock player won't play .mov, you might be out of luck. I don't know if you could re-name it something else, and try to trick the stock player. I know natively the Photon can handle .avi, and I think .mkv, but I don't know about anything else.
I know that is a long answer, but the short answer is, no, unfortunately I don't think it will work.

My thought is if the stock player can do DLNA than a 3rd party app should be able to as well. If that app can play .mov files than shouldn't be any reason it can't pass that through as well. Just haven't been able to find any 3rd party apps that have DLNA & .mov capability which is weird to me.
Chromecast works fine in apps that stream from the NET (youtube, etc). Both from S3 and computer.
Streaming from my PC videos NOT made with the S3, are fine.
Streaming videos SHOT with the S3 from the PC or from the S3 are constantly stuttering. Some of them don't do it, but most do. They are shot in 720p (not 1080p).
Switched from AOSP back to Stock, same problem. Anyone else?
And streaming the same buggy videos through PLEX server (from PC to Chromecast, controlled via S3 plex app) works great. So I assume something is wrong with the videos themselves?
Hey guys, i'm looking for best android apps to stream videos to chromecast. The problem is that most of them only support mp4 files. I found only one that supports all file formats, it transcodes the file on the fly on your phone and streams directly to chromecast. its called Megacast. Does anyone know anything similar?
Try using Plex... It's a paid app, but free from time to time in Amazon App Store
Megacast - Chromecast Video
This isn't strictly a Chromecast app, but rather than Android one that you'll need to download on your phone. Regardless of how you get it on your TV, through, Megacast is an excellent Chromecast player that has real-time transcoding support, allowing you to play files from your phone or tablet that aren't supported natively on your individual Chromecast device. This includes AVI, MKV, 3GP files and more. It can also automatically pre-load subtitles or let you add your own, making it one of the most flexible video streaming apps around
The Google Chromecast lets you display video, photos, pictures and other media content from supported apps on your big-screen TV, using your Android or iOS device as a remote control. You can also send content straight from a Chrome Web browser on your computer. There are hundreds of apps that take advantage of this unique technology, which Google calls "casting," to offer a new way to link.
Try BubbleUPnP
BubbleUPnP, many video + audio options, local transcoding, supports configurable subtitles and transcodes only when necessary.
Plex always transcodes when using subtlitles, always thanscodes if audio is Dolby/DTS to Stereo, and does not support AC3 passthrough as BubbleUPnP does.
Plex is a hog.
+1 for BubbleUPnP, amazing Android app. With a good media server running on the pc (like Serviio) you can stream everything to your Chromecast (transcoding is done by the pc).
Not a huge fan of BubbleUPnP, when I download something off ttorrent, its a roll of the dice of it will work with it. I'd have to say my go to is local cast. Worst is allcast
Allcast isnt bad. I mainly use it to stream Showbox
Plex by far.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Emby all the way. Its,s free, its for, its better than plex
BubbleUPnP also works with DLNA and transcoding on the fly. With a powerfull device is amaizing. Slow devices work with hickups. Waiting for a while for Mxplayer to chromecast but still no go.
