Is there a method of doing a total wipe of the internal SD but maintaining CWM? Have tried several roms but for past 4 weeks been on HyperDroid-Androidmeda (getting amazing battery life) and sticking with this rom. Just want to total wipe to clear clutter from prior installs!!
Any tips appreciated!! have read extensivly

Yup have done factory reset and cleared all data but still some clutter, perhaps I will just manually delete files I know are from prior installs. Just a bit of a task. But many thanks for reply appreciated...
Full wipe won't remove your CWM and Root permission.
Go to CWM Recovery, Wipe Cache Partition+ Factory reset & Wipe data + Wipe Dalvik cache.
Enough.

NO they will not be deleted. Wiping dalvik, cache or battery stats doesn't effect you applications.
what it means flash/boot ?
i had seen on some rom posted that before installing wipe/ boot !!
what does wipe/ boot means, i had wiped all cache, battert, dalvik..

Wiping only dalvik, cache and boot stats won't delete any app or app data from the phone....Wiping Data is the one which does that
Wiping of data is needed to uninstall any installed apps before doing a fresh/clean install of a new ROM
Otherwise it's most probable that the new ROM gets installed wrongly (except cm7 nightlies)
So before flashing new ROM do-
Data wipe,Dalvik, cache, battery stats wipe

Press thanks button if I helped you
I have TWRP 2.2.1 installed, unlocked bootloader and rooted, I want to install a new ROM but I want to do a full wipe as per the installation instruction.
In the Wipe Menu I see 6 different options. Which ones do I wipe for it to be a full wipe?
Cache (I can probably wipe this)
Dalvik cache (I can probably wipe this)
Facory Reset
System
Exernal Storage (I probably don't need to wipe this)
Internal Storage
Thanks,
Richard
A full wipe is factory reset.

Not true, A factory reset wipes data, and cache. A true full wipe is System, data, and cache. When doing this I usually click on factory reset twice and then system twice

And I'd throw "System" in there for good measure.
Thanks guys. Worked like a charm.
There is a mod you can flash that does the same thing called superwipe
Sorry to bump this, but factory reset WILL NOT erase media on phone, right?
No, it will not. ONLY a SD card erase will wipe the media.

I use swm6180_superwipe between flashes. Not sure that it's necessarily any better than using the wipe option in TWRP, but here's a link. https://db.tt/lAVSMRwY
I wish I could remember what thread it was from so I could link you to it directly, but it you find it make sure you thank swm6180.
sorry to resurrect this yet again but dose swm6180_superwipe still work? i used to use one on my galaxy s2x but that one no longer works i have been told.
full wipe!" i must to select all ? :dalvik , data, internal storage, cache, usb otg )? and " system " no correct?
Hello all.
Recently started flashing custom Roms and I'm wondering how I completely wipe my phone so I don't get any files left from previous roms.
At the mo I'm wiping user data, cash and delvek cash and also formatting system via clockwork.
Cheers

That's all you should have to do. A factory reset consisting of wiping data, cache, dalvik (usually cleared on ROM installation anyway) and formatting system is a full wipe, as far as I'm aware. Done it many times and never have any problems.

I know what you mean... after years of flashing I always have tons of redundant crap left over.
Use this tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832326&highlight=superwipe
The Megawipe option is pretty full on though.. read it all carefully, make sure you have a backup (particularly of your EFS folder), and also make sure you have an Odin flashable ROM ready!
So it seems buy reading them that I'm doing a full wipe anyway.
I don't seem to be able in install roms from my external sd card so would it be a case of flashing with Odin?

Really? I can. What recovery are you using? What format is your SD card?
I'm using clockwork, and I think it's formatted in fat32

OK, I have a noob question. Is internal storage truly wiped completely when doing a wipe before installing a ROM? I mean say that's your only storage and you have a nandroid on it. Would you lose that? If so, how would people with sealed and non-upgradeable storage ever create and preserve a nandrpid? Copy it to their PC before wipe?
Thanks...

I have noticed there is a difference in Data wipe on ClockworkMod and TWRP. On ClockworkMod my internal Data is left alone when doing the Data wipe. I did a Data wipe on TWRP and I lost everything on internal. I have done this once and only once. It was a surprise to me and thankfully I had all my Ti backups on my external.
These are the options I use when doing a wipe with TWRP:
1.Cache
2. Dalvik Cache
3. Factory Reset
4. System
5. Flash Rom
I hope this helps.

No its not. I factory reset before every fladh and my internal storage is always intact. Just don't select the wipe internal storage option.

This post gives a bit of technical explanation that I found interesting, re the differences in how twrp handles Wipe Data vs Factory Reset:

Just to be clear, When I'm wiping my phone, I do an advanced wipe and select wipe cache, dalvik cache, and system, but not data? I read about someone wiping all their downloads and stuff by doing a regular wipe and I'd like to avoid that. Is that correct?

When you first go into the wipe menu, just using the default and just swiping the slider is enough for factory reset. Most devs wipe system when flashing Rom anyways.
