How to view entire phone contents on Mac? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I mount my S2 on my Mac via USB, I only ever see from the virtual sdcard.
How can I ensure that I can see the WHOLE of the phone's storage contents, higher-level?
Also, how can I do this over WiFi, no USB?

You can't.

Just seen that you can, by starting an FTP server on the phone and connecting the computer to that.

[Q] WifiHard Drive

is there any decent program that can turn my SGS2 into a external Wifi HardDrive that works just like my external hardrive that connected strait to my home network?
I expect you could achieve this by using a samba server on the phone and mapping a network drive on your computer.
The first result from Googling was this.
Moved to proper section.

[Solved] Transfering .zip files issue

Just ran into a problem with this. Have had my Note for a few days now and have transferred files to and from the PC without issue while connected through USB. Now all of the sudden I'm getting this error when trying to drag and drop .zip files...
Cannot copy Item
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.
I tried with USB debugging activated and deactivated but to no avail. Any thoughts on why this might be and why it just stopped working as it was?

Here's how to connect the Galaxy Note to PC and access the memory card. (a removable disk file directory will appear on your PC, separate from internal memory of your phone.
- From idle mode, select Application list.
- Then tap on Settings
- Tap Wireless and Network
- Select USB Utilities
- then select Connect Mass Storage to PC.
Then connect your Galaxy Note to PC with the USB cable or multifunction jack
When connected Touch USB connected or Turn on USB storage
- A USB icon will appear in the top left Notifications area of the screen.
- On the PC, go to My Computer then locate the newly file drive directory that appears as your Galaxy Note mass storage. You can now have the access to browse, sync, copy or transfer files that you want from your Galaxy Note microSD card to your PC or laptop.

Did you try changing USB ports? If you did the cable might be bad.

I added to the OP that the issue is only with .zip files, everything else transfers fine.

have you tried right clicking on the .zip and copy then paste? Or "send to"

Yes, get the same error message. This is really odd, I've never ran into anything like this before. I guess I'll try wiping the data and starting fresh again.

Update...
I've since wiped the device (factory reset) and am still unable to drag and drop, cut and paste, or send to my device, .zip files.

By default, your phone is connected using MTP only. MTP stands for Media Transport Protocol. As the name indicates, it will only allow media files to be copied over.
You will need to switch to Mass Storage mode in order to copy any other file type. Check your USB settings, there should be one to enable Mass Storage mode on USB.
That is weird but this is what i have always done...ON my Infuse for zips...
from pc to phone : right click file/ send to: pick what drive of int sd..
from phone to pc: right click file / copy/ paste.
Next question: Are you mounted correctly??
EDIT: duh! What they said above: I just asumed you were in mass storage mode

Appreciate the response! What's weird is I never changed anything as far the USB settings go, it just suddenly stopped allowing me to move the files over.
When I get back to my PC to give it another go, where might that setting be located in the Note? I haven't seen the setting you're referring to in my device for mass storage mode.
Really appreciate the help.

I'm only seeing Settings / Applications / Storage on the Note. Once I'm in the Storage setting, I don't see an option for Mass Storage Mode.

Does it give you a prompt upon connecting usb? Otherwise, after connecting USB, pull down the notification bar, and look for a "USB connected" item. If it's available, click it, and "connect usb storage."

yeah, since i don't have my note in hand yet i can't really help any further...but on Infuse when in settings i have checked "always ask" then when i connect to PC i drop down noti bar and hit connect.
EDIT: i just googled and found this..

The Froyo phones like Captivate and Infuse work slightly differently.
On my GS2, the setting is hidden in Settings->Wireless and Network->USB Utilities, tap the button 'Connect storage to PC' then connet your USB, you will get your phone connected as 'Mass storage mode'. You will know you are in mass stroage mode when your phone (and its microSD card) shows up as a flash drive with a drive letter. In MTP mode, your phone does not show up as flash drive. MTP mode allows audio files, video files, all the image/picture files. But not other file types.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad i could help.
Thanks for the info. I noticed this problem the other day, and couldn't find a setting. However software data cable, an app in the market will let you transfer files easily thru ftp.

[Q] How to mount the sdcard partition on Mac?

I'm using HTC DNA with UKB rom (1.2.1). While having the usb debugging on and plug into the Mac (Lion 10.7), i don't see be able to find a way to mount the /sdcard.
From the notification area, I click on the USB Connected message but it's all about tethering but nothing to say change it to USB mode.
Can anyone share some light for me?
Thanks.
You have to download a little program from Google so your phone will show up. Google something like "android mass storage on mac" or something like that. It is a program from Google that you're looking for though. It should pop right up on Google.

[Q] How can I transfer large files

I need a way to transfer large files, 700mb+, from my hox+ to my Iconia. Problem is I'm on cellular data, so something like Wi-Fi file transfer would be out of the question. I tried using Bluetooth file transfer, but it takes ages, and always fails anyway. My hox+ is rooted but the Iconia isn't, and it's running android 3.2 if that's at all relevant. thanks in advance ladies/gents.
Do you have a computer.
I have a two, but this phone is completely incapable of connecting to either via usb. neither computer even acknowledges my phone is connected to it.

I have had issues with this coming from a HTC Desire and found the only way to get my PC to see the phone correctly is to turn on USB Debugging on and the moment I connect the phone to the PC I have to unlock the screen otherwise all I get is a blank window. (Once the drivers have installed)
Do you have drivers installed?
I've installed every driver I can find pertaining to mtp, htc, android, etc. I honestly think maybe there's something wrong with the phone, but then again when I "install hardware" on Vista and install all the drivers that way,I still get a code 10 (cannot connect).
What about ADB? If so you can transfer to computer with it.
my phone will not connect via usb, to transfer files I use web sharing. but that isn't feasible to transfer from phone to tablet, unless I'm on Wi-Fi. I need a way to do it when I'm away from home and on cellular data.
Are you using windows XP? If so, you must install windows media player 11 / 12 so that your pc will recognize your phone as a usb mass storage device and download and install the latest HTC Sync Manager, just google it.
Hope it helps.
Best regards.

Well i finally figured out why my phone wouldn't connect via usb, because the phone itself was BROKEN! Got a new one under warranty and everything is working perfect! Thanks for all the help guys! Its time to get rooting, again!
Hoy can use Airdroid from the play store

thanks for the advice, but airdroid uses data. it's handy if you're on Wi-Fi though.

File Transfer Issue

All of a sudden I am having a problem with getting files to transfer onto/off of my phone. I copied over 200 pictures onto my PC with no problems and now I cannot put any files on or off of it (sd or phone). I am getting the error "cannot copy the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." I've tried using multiple USB cables, multiple USB ports on PC, etc. with no change.
Tried installing kies to see if that would help, but no. Reinstalled samsung usb drivers with no change also.
Any ideas on what to try?
that shameful bump
Do other file transfer methods work ?
