Harro guys.
I'm pretty much stuck on updating to 2.2 because of this message that pops up once in Clockworkmod.
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
installation aborted
I did flash Clockwormod, creating that update.zip file, updated su binary.
Any advice?
are you sure your not in the stock recovery when trying to flash? Usually a signature verification error means this.

Got it done! now facing another problem haha
the CWM version i have is 3.0.0.8 and while trying to upgrade to Froyo 2.2, it says it had to abort mission because
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
Any idea?

Updating it to EB01. Actually, I got it done. I have no idea what I did, but when the phone reboots, it takes it to CWM 2.x instead of 3.x...iunno how that worked.
One question though, I forgot to do a factory reset/wipe data when installing this. I t seems like the phone is still working. Should I wipe data/factory reset and then install it again?

why are you using cwm3? there are only 2 recoveries needed for flashing anything.
1) cwm2.5.1.x red works for everything rfs/ext4...supports both amend and edify.
2) cwm4 blue works for all mtd roms ( cm7,miui, aosp,etc...)
what rom are you trying to flash? my guide has all bases covered. Find the correct section for what your trying to flash and follow directions. its really easy, all correct files are included in each section...seriously use it.

you could of went to section 4 of my guide and used odin to flash stock ed05. you would of been done long time ago lol. why did you upgrade to ed01? I would run ed05 at a minimum or odin stock eh03 gingerbread.

Hello, I updated to 2.2 using Kies mini and would like to root my Vibrant and flash the Team Whiskey ROM. From what I have read, rooting and stuff isn't as simple as it was with 2.1? The only other phone I have ever rooted was the MyTouch 3G, but that was a long time ago and I don't really remember anything about rooting. I am not familiar with ODIN and ClockworkMod and stuff...
Is there a step by step guide in layman's terms on how to do this from 2.2?
1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCDsAHfoVwc
-follow the guide. use the nero vX instead of axura
2. ????
3. Profit!
I followed the steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10839104
And when I get to the part where I reinstall packages, it keeps rebooting into Samsung recovery, not clockwork recovery
When trying to reboot into clockwork mod recovery, sometimes you have to apply the update.zip several times before it actually reboots into CWM.

why would you wait and get the stock froyo then want to custom install another rom when you could have just done that in the first place.... i have a program that will one click root your stock 2.2 and you will be just fine
so I rooted my phone via superoneclick 1.9 then loaded up latest version of clockworkmod and I gave it superuser permission and flashed the recovery but when i go to boot into recovery and push the reinstall package button instead of loading into clockwork like its supposed to it says "E:failed to verify whole-file signature, E:signature verification failed installation aborted." and wont let me go into clockwork. Im sorry if this has been answered i tried searching but could'nt find anything addressing this specific problem, thanks in advance and im sure someone will post a link to a posting i missed answering this problem lol again i apolagise if this has been answered already i couldnt find it.

BTW the link for the UPDATE.ZIP is wrong, it's not CWM recovery Had to do it manually.

Hey, appreciate the kind words. The update.zip I have posted is NOT CWR... it is just a zip to give root. If a person didn't have CWR prior on their phone they would need that to root, then go to the market and grab Rom Manager to flash CWR. Most have CWR/RM so they do not need the update.zip I included.
Maybe I need to make that more clearer in the guide? Thoughts?
Maybe.
I have a Galaxy S I9000 and I've done a few things with it (root, flash ROMs etc.), but the Vibrant was SO different. But I thought that the update.zip included was the CWM one.
Anyway, I'm done with it, but still can't make it work with my european SIM card

Hi. I was following this guide here wiki.cyanogenmod.<(SPACE)>com/wiki/Viewsonic_G_Tablet:_Full_Update_Guide
(REMOVE <(SPACE)>)
I chose to install the 'update' to internal memory. Upon rebooting while holding the volume up and power buttons, "booting recovery kernel image" is seen but it doesn't progress beyond that point. After pressing the power button the tablet boots normally. I am stuck at Step 3 of the 2nd Method in the guide I had posted. I read somewhere that ROM Manager softbricks the device or something so I avoided it. How can I finish installing Cyanongen or perhaps switch to vegan? I would appreciate any responses

Err. Tap UI says 1.2-4349.
I'm having the exact same problem. Just got the tablet and starting from the beginning with CWM. I've tried internalsd, externalsd and nvflash and all three methods result in the same thing. Stuck on the booting recovery kernal image.
I may nvflash the stock recovery and try it again.
EDIT: Go here: http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm
Follow the instructions to download the stock rom with CWM pre-installed. This did the trick for me! Hope it helps.

This means your on bootloader 1.2. Cm7 is made around bl 1.1 so it wont install correctly. You can install a modified version of cm7 that was packaged to run on bl 1.2. There is a thread in development by zyhong that has links to the modified cm7.
Here is the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123836
There are 2 options for kernels. The roms on the linked thread come pre packaged with either pershoots or clemsyns 1.2 compatible kernel.

Okay, thanks. I followed this completely without any errors...how do I know if Cyanogen is installed? Everything looks the same, has the same settings, nothing was wiped (same apps in same places and still have flash). Nothing says cyanogen in the settings. Thanks!
You guys flashed (installed) the wrong cwm for your branch. You're on 1.2 but you flashed in cwm for 1.1.

After you Odin to stock, are you rooting with the update.zip from here at XDA?
You'll put it on your internal storage (not Micro SD) and not in a folder. Just drop it on the base level of the internal storage. Then go to stock recovery, click reinstall packages. You'll probably have to click reinstall packages a 2nd time.
Then it should boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
You really don't need ROM Manager. I guess some people like it, though.

Where can I get the xda update zip? My version of the vibrant doesn't allow you to physically get into recovery up with the buttons. What else can I use to install roms? I tried using rom toolbox lite ( i think that's the name) but it still didn't work.

As I understand it you could get into recovery mode on the original vibrants by holding down the buttons in a specific way but they removed the feature on later vibrants. I have one of the vibrants where the feature was removed. I can only get to recovery mode through software I think.

They didn't remove that feature from vibrants. Go to settings> about phone>model and type that in here letter for letter please.
Try this, turn phone off. Hold volume up/down and power until you see screen come on then release.
Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn.
Shut your phone off. Hold volume up + volume down and power all at the same time. As soon as you see the Vibrant black/white text let go.
You may have to try this multiple times to get it to work. This will be stock recovery.
The later ones were getting shipped with updated Android version and installing signed packages bug was fixed.
Nowadays, you get around that by entering Download mode and using Odin to revert back to stock, which allows flashing of custom recovery and rooting, and then voila... you're on your way.
I guess I've been wrong before, but I've never heard anything about them disabling the button combos altogether.

Do you have an SGH-T959? Not to be confused with a T959v, that's different. Do you have a front facing camera? The errors you describe typically take place when you erroneously flash a ROM that isn't for your device.
Have a looksy in Settings>About phone and make sure it says SGH-T959.
Good luck!
At this point I'm just trying to re install bionix 1.3 with a non working rom manager on my rooted, stock vibrant.

In my opinion, forget about ROM Manager and get Clockwork Mod Recovery installed. Search the forums, find the update.zip file. You'll need to be on stock Eclair to flash it in recovery.
Check the stickies for guides on how to get back to stock, how to flash Update.zip and the ROM threads have instructions in the 1st post how to install the ROM via Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Good Luck!
Hint: look in stickies for Woodrubes Repository. He put together a great collection of files. Don't forget to hit his thanks button.
