So, a little background.
Currently I have a Galaxy S. But for my own reasons I'm sick of it. I have been looking at midrange android phones that I can afford to buy so I don't have to sign a contract and the Ace stuck out to me.
Now, I understand that it will not be as fast or big as my S, but how is it for the money?
The things I'm looking for are like
GPS
Stability
Speed (though I know it won't be top of the line)
Everyone's favorite question: battery life
and if there are any specific limitations to the device.
Basically, is it a good all around phone that I can email, text, tweet, Google+, and listen to music during the day and not have to worry about it dieing during my lunch break?
Thanks.
I don't understand you but that's ok for me ;-)
The Ace when delivered has good hardware and with the help of this Forum I got a nice phone running!
Everything in Stock Roms is working already but after some fixes here and there it's, for the price, a very good phone.
The Batterylife isn't to amazing but a day from 7 to 7 with normal use as you suggested is well possible.
I'm using the Ace about 3 months now and still happy with it. My Son's Defy has obviously better Hardware but caused many Problems already so he stopped laughing at my "can't find HD games " Phone

uhhh i wouldnt ever recommend u ace if u come from sgs, u'll be highly disappoint. stay away. the battery is horrible. u can literally see the battery drops when it just sit there idling doing nothing.
btw how about galaxy w?
comparing it to ace, it had better resolution, slightly bigger screen, more internal memory, more ram, better cpu, better gpu, better battery and the list go on. best part is its priced at the same price as i buy my ace 5 months ago. lol
and my personal opinion is that for current android lineup, its the best value for each buck u spent on it.
Well, naturally I will wait and allow more response, but from what you two are saying I am a more hesitant as battery is one of my main concerns. I will need it to last a majority of the day at least as currently I only make it from 9a to about 5:30p before I'm forced to juice up. That is with gmail, a few texts, a call or two, Web, and about 30 min of music. And I will need it to perform well passed 5.a
Thanks for the quick responses and honest opinions.
it'll definitely stay alive at the end of the day if u dont use wifi and 3g data connection. but without both two, it wouldnt be a smartphone isnt it?
seriously when u start enabling wifi or data connection, u can see battery drops in minutes.
the longest my ace had ever survived without recharge is just 1.5 day. that when i dont receive or make calls, just couple of sms and maybe half an hour on market using wifi. just siting there idling doing nothing and it can just survive 1.5 day max.
the truth does hurt, but i need to admit that ace's batterylife is horrible.
A lot of people out there say that battery life is good, that they get more than 24 hours one charge. Well, it isn't good. With normal use for me (facebook, twitter, whatsapp and email; wifi or 3g always on) I get 10 hours max. And I need to be careful, I don't use it as much as I'd like it to.
If you are looking for a phone with good battery life, the ace isn't your phone. If I had known this, I wouldn't have bought it, that's for sure.
BUT: If we forget about battery life, it isn't a bad phone at all.
(Ah, wifi sucks big time)
The battery life problem is on all android phones buy on ebay battery with 1600 or better mAh and live without problems
I bought sga, not sgs because its android, iphone size, it have led, the photo quality is 3x better than sgs but sgs is little bit faster in android games(on all another apps they are identical) and it can record videos on 1080p and play movie files without lags but it dont have led and its big and it takes really bad photos
The gps and all other stuff are identical on speed etc

By led you mean camera flash?
The Ace is almost on every count, inferior to Galaxy S Captivate. OP you are a funny guy.
Having owned this phone for roughly two months I don't think I can recommend you switching from your SGS.
As a phone i.e call quality and general connectivity it is fine. GPS seems reasonably quick.
This isn't your first Android phone so you know the battery tricks - you will need them.
However, I reall advise against getting this. The two main readons are the MDPI screen and the woeful amount of RAM. The processor is somewhat lacking by todays standards too.
The Ace is, to all intents and purposes, now a low end phone. When it was released it was a reasonable mid-range device. Not so much anymore.
There are better optiond. I have a Huawei u8800 and a ZTE Blade as well as the Ace and would recommend both of those above an Ace. The ZTE Blade is superiour to the Ace in every respect apart from the processor but if that matters o/c. The u8800 is comparable to the Desire HD.
The Ace is functional, but obsolete. We will struggle to keep up to date software wise. CM aren't supporting the N1 so our chances are small and we would struggle because of hatdware limitations anyway. So basically I'm recommending you look elsewhere.
Yes camera flash, only for photo reason, size and led i bought sga not sgs..for author i can now recommend htc desire because its now cheaper than sgs and more expensive than sga
When i bought sga, then desire was more expensive than sgs, 90$
I dont have the Battery Problems, using my Ace at Home most time with Wlan, using Facebook Client Socialjogger and Friendcaster, little Call -activities much Xda app, Worldwar and sometimes FarmFrenzy, using Miren Browser for Inet researches sometimes and I always get my Ace over the day.
But I don't overclock and use Kernel from Ketut, Battery Saver and Governor "ondemand "
I am on KS9 Firmware.

I have pre-ordered Galaxy S II but I am now having doubts and seriously considering cancelling the pre-order as my Galaxy S I is working fine on the leaked Gingerbread releases.
For those of you who upgraded from S I is it worth upgrading to S II? If so, why?
Please no let me Google/Bing that for you links as I have been using internet more then most people so I can quite comfortably use search engines.
I am not an owner of an s1
If you are comfortable with the s1 and you are getting what you want from it then it would be better to wait for the next best thing and make your upgrade even more worthwhile.
That is all of course if money is an issue if not then hell yeah
I have both at the moment.
I did like the sgs1 and it is still a good phone, however I absolutely dont regret upgrading. The sgs2 is just a nicer experience imo. Its screen is sharper and bigger, Its a hell of a lot faster, the browsing experience is great, camera is pretty good especialy compared to the sgs1.
I was also not sure If I should upgrade but it is worth it imo. Its also nice to have a phone which is not mistaken for an iphone 3gs.
Bare in mind I paid 250£ due to sgs1 being traded in. I wouldn't pay any more than that!
i am also thinking, but ever since trying the new cm7 i am going to pass for now. the sgs1 is very fast now.
there is not enough support for sgs2 yet. wait a while and see where the good developers are heading.

I used to have an SGS1, now I have the SGS2 and couldn't be happier. For me, at least, I wanted the GS1 to be a little faster, have a front facing camera (I had the Captivate), and a larger screen (4.3in was what I was hoping for). It's like Samsung heard my cries and gave me the exact phone I was looking for.
Personally, I think it's worth the upgrade, but it's all about what you want to get out of the phone. If you're using casually using it, don't need a front facing camera, and feel that the GS1 fills all your needs then by all means stick with the GS1 and wait for the GS3. For me it was worth the upgrade.
SGS2 is the best phone at the moment.
I had SGS1 and Nexus S. Didn't like SGS1. Nexus S was just ok. SGS2 is amazingly fast and bugfree.
i still use my sgs more than the sgs 2
for a few reasons
no extra batteries so i can't have a charged one in my pocket
better sound with voodo on the sgs 1
much better battery life using the sgs 1 with speedmod kernel and 2.2.1 firmware.. i get about 3 days out my batteries
gps is also better on my sgs 1 since i cannot get into gps menus to tweak thinks and accuracy is much lower/better on the sgs 1 and it locks within 10 secs, vs. up to a minute average on the sgs 2.
the speed and display on the sgs 2 is better. and i think eventually i will us it daily to surpass my sgs 1.. the camera is much better the flash is great, and it is great to be able to have a flashlight app to use the flash as a light.
but for now i find myself taking the sgs 1 to work and playing and tweaking the sgs ii in the evenings/weekends.

Thanks for detailed comparison. I guess I need to compare myself to make final decision.
ugh man.. this phone is unstoppable, 20 dolphin mini tabs playing megavideo at the same time. not even the slightest hiccup, spam pinch zoom, and its as smooth as pinching a picture in the gallery, and thats with all 20 tabs. I'm not exaggerating.
camera is better than the omnia hd, apps install in under a second. and the led is roughly 80 lumens, brightest led on any phone, makes for a great touch! pixel density is better than s1, gps finally fixed.. sigh Im watching the last episode of the office.. and it's so sad.. k don't wanna type anymore.. just get it..

Just sold my SGS 1 sad to see it go perfect for me and with a custom rom even better .
SGS2 better yes but its not a big better its just smoother + bigger .

So Im debating on buying the Galaxy S2 or the Atrix. Iv been a long time Galaxy S user (i9000 since the beginning) and as much as a disaster it was, I still held off and kept with it.
The thing I like about Atrix is gps works, super fast, (I never use GPS except for weather and I CANT see weather on my SGS cuz my gps doesnt work ) size of it, speed,
-Bad things are moto blur im not a fan of, bootloader locked (I have never flashed roms on my galaxy s, but iv done a ton of research and will want to in the future), no gingerbread
The things I like about SGS2 are unlocked BL (just like above), screen looks a bit nicer then motos. Gingerbread.
This I dont like - size is pretty big, and im afraid im going to be settling just like I did with the SGS
My buddy just bought the SG2 and says the wifi sucks, battery sucks, and the GPS still isent the greatest.
Now my question is, is this just a bad batch like the first galaxy S's? or is this going to be the future of the SGS2? To be honest Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth after my SGS
Wifi seems to have some compatability issues with certain routers and there is a bug for some people with battery drainage. So, as I see it, not the end of the world, but annoying for those affected.
GPS works fine for me at least.
Dunno which batch I got but I never had such a perfect phone before. Even get Gps signal indoors in 10 secs.....
Wonder why some folks here have so big probs ........

Same here. no problems at all.
Sounds like a troll. The wifi is very fast, with great reception. The GPS takes a reading in seconds and is extremely accurate, and the SGS2 runs all day on a charge - unlike my last phone, I don't need a way to charge this phone at work. Beyond that, it is fast to use, has a camera good enough so that now, I have a usable camera with me wherever I go, it plays games and movies to entertain the kids when needed, gives me full access to the Internet everywhere I go and it has a reasonably good connection to all communications outlets - social networking, IM, and email. Can any of these functions be improved? Sure, but the overall package is probably as good as any phone on the market and better than best-sellers like the iPhone 4. At the moment there is no better phone on the market, and this phone will hopefully remain useful for much longer than the HTC Touch Pro2 that it replaced.
I currently own both the Atrix & Galaxy S 2. I'm currently trying to sell the Atrix. My Galaxy S2 is the best device I ever owned. If I had a 12 year old child, I would give my Atrix to them.....IT IS A PIECE OF OVERRATED CRAP!!!!!
Get the SGS2, I couldn't be happier!!!!
Atrix, don't even think about it. I feel its one of the useless phone out there. I used it for some time. Screen is really awful. I hate to compare this with SGS1. SGS 2 is way up in the sky.

Quite simply because Samsung's quality control is terrible. I've had four Galaxy S Captivates and they've all had issues to varying degrees. I'm seeing the same issues with the SGS II as I did with the original: blotchy screens, yellow banding, and GPS issues. I attribute the complaints of poor battery life due to user interaction (read: constantly playing and running benchmarks) so that's more of a wash to me. But the hardware quality control seems to be right next to the original SGS: in the gutter.
Battery life is pretty good, 100% at 8am this morning & its now 10pm at 68%. Used for about 20 mins of calls, a bit of web surfing, downloaded a few apps & some general fiddling about.
I've had no problems with GPS. Initial fix took no more than a couple of minutes & it has performed like a champ.
The wifi though does seem to be quite weak.
I don't care if you get the sgs2 or not but the atrix is a piece of ****. It can't function right without motoblur.

Pretty tired of these "doomsday" posts with no general processing of the overall picture. This phone is fantastic, even with the minor bugs. This device makes the SGS feel like a beta prototype that should have never even been released.
Screen is gorgeous, web browser NEVER lags even when zooming/panning with flash on screen, GPS/Navigation is flawless, everything is just blazing fast with no hint of slowdown. So, if you think your last-gen Atrix is a keeper, by all means, keep using it.

I couldn't agree more. The Atrix had a LOT of potential but sadly was bogged down by a piss-poor implementation by Motorola. The big thing to note is: even though the SGS2 has superior hardware, it's not superior by much. Even this being the case, the SGS2's performance completely trounces that of the Atrix simply because of the optimization done by Samsung. I had one and ended up selling it because it just didn't feel like a next-gen phone to me and couldn't be happier w/ my Galaxy S2.
For me battery is great, screen fantastic, call quality spot on. in three weeks, no lag or crashing. Camera is superb, external speaker great. 2 & 3G sensitivity perfectly fine. 1080p video recording amazing. ummm...just trying to think of something negative..
I'll have to come back to you on that one..........
OP:
Many of the problems commonly found in the SGS1 can be cured with a ROM change. Darky's has been great for the GF; wicked good battery life (2 days), FAST and GPS even works!
The update fiasco that was the Galaxy S1 was (imho) due to the US carriers. The GF purchased her SGS1 from Telus Early Jan, and I installed Froyo that night through KIES.
Basically what I'm getting at is the SGS got a bad rap in the states, but I honestly don't believe the majority of the blame lies with the manufacturer in regards to the update issue. The GPS was fixable, but I have a feeling it wasn't fixed due to the difficulty encountered in updating the US versions of the SGS.
In regards to the Atrix, I am biased when it comes to Motorola as I owned a Milestone (non US, non CDMA Droid1). Now that device is a PITA as the bootloader is encrypted and Motorola has truly been atrocious with the updates. I would never buy an encrypted device after that experience, as I can't really update my phone on my own.
Moved to it from a Desire running Ginger Villain. Phone's great, screen's great, no problems with WiFi or GPS.
Chalk me up as another person struggling for a negative.
Just upgraded from the SGS1 to the SGS2, it's sooooo much faster. My GPS locks indoors WITHOUT AGPS (insight of a window maybe 8ft away), I like TW4 and the new apps, a good camera and the build quality is better than the SGS1 but..... it took me a while to get used to the new screen, at first I found the contrast a little odd and the audio is not as good as the SGS1 (with Voodoo) and may never be.
Overall though a great phone and a good upgrade to the SGS1, I think this phone will do well.
Had the GS1, only problems with it. Since I've got this one, no problems at all. Frankly, the only issues are reallyyy minor and the phone's speed makes up for it
I've also upgraded from an original Desire to the SGS2, it's amazing. The wi-fi gets one less bar than my desire but the speed is still 18mbps as it was on the Desire. Can't fault it tbh, awesome phone
I never use GPS except for weather and I CANT see weather on my SGS cuz my gps doesnt work
↑
Omg lol!!! Is this guy serious?
Go with a normal phone. I can see that you don't have the intelligence to handle a smartphone let alone SGS II. ...Unless you're Superman who fly to different cities every hour.
guys please little help
right now i have samsung galaxy s i9000
im thinking to switch to samsung galaxy s 2 after two days
should i switch to sgs2 ? is there is a big diffrence ?
does sgs2 have any proplems ?
the reason im switching my sgs1 because the phone is laggy a little
so if i switched to sgs2 is it fast alot ?
so guys please advice should i buy sgs2 and why

Flashing a custom rom could make your phone faster/lag free
(Also, isn't there a one click lag fix thing for that?)
It got some issues like a yellow tint on some screens etc. But nothing to serious. Its fast as hell though
But be aware, the battery is horrible! Sometimes I have to charge 2 times a day!
To be honest, i would keep the GS1 and wait for something even better.
(Perhaps the upcoming nexus?)

SGS is a very good phone. You can flash custom ROM and tweak a little bit to reduce the sluggishness. SGS2 is a lot faster than SGS but there won't be no difference unless you are running multiple applications or cpu centric apps and games. I suggest to use SGS with a new ROM first and if you still find it laggy, then get SGS2.
Personally, I think the both SGS1 and SGS2 are good phones and I changed over mainly because of the size. Its sleek dimensions is simply beautiful and larger screen and vivid colours makes viewing videos a pleasure.
Surely the phone's hardware is sweet, but I don't think there are many instances where you would be fully utilizing the phone to its full potential (at least not very soon). So sticking to a SGS1 would be a cost saving measure. As you mentioned, performance wise, perhaps you could look into using lag-fix and overclocking as a boost.
PS: I feel like a salesgirl @ a telcom shop... >.<
I'll swim against the tide and say hell yes, get the SGS2, even if your SGS is so new
I had the SGS for about 10 weeks before I jumped ship. It was - and is - a very good phone. I fixed the lag by changing the file system to ext2 or ext4 with either kernels or custom ROMs. But the speed of the SGS2 makes it a totally different beast, as does the build and screen. That extra 0.3 inches really does make an enormous difference.
I've always had excellent battery life (no SNS or games, about 25 apps) on the SGS2. It sounds like you know what you're doing regarding flashing/rooting/custom ROMs etc, and there's more than enough choice here now.
Come on over, you won't regret it

You can't have a perfect device, never. Which you could have is a near about perfect device and I believe GSII includes in that category, unlike Sensation/O2X.
Besides, hardware wise there is a big difference between GS and GSII, but that depends on your usability, how you are gonna use it. SGS is still a powerful device. And as you are coming from Android you won't have any problem in adjusting with the UI. iPhone users some time find it difficult to adjust to Android as they claim it's not smooth enough, laggy etc etc. Its true, but you can't have everything at a time
Regards.
If you need a LED flash for the camera or need a front camera for video conferencing, then SGS2 upgrade would be justified.
Else, I'd just flash it to CM7 on the SGS, and keep using it.
im realy confuised
but i think i will go for the sgs2
Get the sgs2. i only had my sgs1 for 2 weeks before the upgrade {thanks vodafone} but man it was worth it. and im not sure whats going on with other peoples battery but mine lasts 2 days, widgets {3}, watch a full movie {platoon hd}, play angry birds for a while, text and calls and i also plug it into the old radio at work to listen to my music. i only just discovered i had gps on too
the other thing tho is that i rooted and deleted some of the crappy apps i dont want so i have about 40 installed but i got rid of samsung ones ect. if i benchmark its always 3400+ and i have never seen lag or a yellow tinge on my screen {my first sgs 2 had a weird scroll pattern under the glass but was replaced no questions} You wont regret the decision. do it.
if its suit with your needs go for it
ok guys thanks for ur help alot
going to buy sgs2 today inshallah
Hey guys, is there anyone among you, who owns both phones? What I expect is simply a fluid experiance (mostly browsing, xda, music, fb, whatsapp,...) and most important: being able to go a full day, with a lot of screen on time, because i really text a lot so which of those 2 phones would you all go for? Oh i gotta add, I can get a L9 for free with my contract and the SII would cost around 100€ (around 130 $).

i can say one thing amoled is good for texting (my experiance) i had a old zte blade amoled version with cm7 and with a black sms app (only 2g and data on) 5% hole from 8h till 12h in class texting at end of day at home whe i go to bed hole evening texting girl friend 70% noting else then sms
so i thing galaxy s2 with amoled and a good black back ground in texting app should last a day.
the lg l9 i text thehole day with some girls. humm on 2g wifi i could hold it till evening. hole day. but yeah i also go on the web. fb. so if i'm awake a 10 am go to bed 12pm it may have 10% left.
but on 2d without wifi it's shorter and 3g veven less.i found out texting eats more battery then internet browsing.i still think amoled is best for texting, but i dont have the sgs2 or any samsung anymore. but a friend had sgs1 i had a custom rom gb with black sms app 5h screen on with some fb. i was shocked. later i installed JB Gamer edition. screen on tim 2-3h mainly because sms app would go in black so was white... and white killes battery on amoled faster then black^^
i wanted the sgs2 but was out of stock... so i toke the l9 wanted to have dual core noting less.
still l9 is a mid end phone, the sgs2 was once a high end phone. so is still better. auto brigness, gorila glass, mhl out, otg, 8mpx. things the L9 hasn't
ps:
if you get a galaxy s2 get the real one not the sgs2 plus. the real 1.2ghz x2 cpu, mali400 gpu, 16BG
u have the other one with same cpu 1ghz x2 and gpu(powervr540) same as the LG L9 (no the best one). or the sgs2 plus has a 1ghz x2 but with a broadcome IV gpu, 8gb. also not the best one. dont know why the [email protected] they made 3 versions guess cheaper. the old one is still better.

Well the first I d do would of course be, installing a custom ROM I d never live with the stock ROM, or only with a heavily tweaked one, but I could also make one on my own

Stock ROM on an l9 should last you a full day. Even with the new jelly bean ROM and with GPS on my phone last all day with moderate use. If you like trying out new Roms with lots of features then go for the s2 it has worse battery life but better development support. The l9 might be dead with support but having jelly bean is nice

Well so far custom ROMs have serious problems which make them quite unusable. It's echo during calls or mute calls. Noone knows why this happens. mikegapinski made MIUI and AOSP on stock kernel with all stock audio files but it still happens. PACMAN by adamz667 and official CM have the same problem (bug reported in jira a month ago but still nothing changed). Some people have kernel panic without a reason too with modded kernels.
I''ve got both (but mine is sgs2 t989) and I think sgs2 is more stable and smooth. I also like l9, but if you have to choose go for sgs2.
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
I've had the S2 and moved on to L9. The problem with S2 is its display, which consumes a lot of battery, and even more under direct sunlight (100% brightness). Also, because it is SAMOLED PLUS, the display will most probably get burnt really fast - I've had 2 GS2s, once had like half a year and the display was already slighly burnt, the other one was used for almost 2 years and the display was burnt really, really badly.
On the other side, the battery can last very long, if you don't use your phone at all - just for calls and texting. But who buys GS2 just for calling?
So I got myself an L9 and I am very, very satisfied. The stock firmware is really fast and LG also added some very good features. I've had custom roms on every phone I had to the day, but I really see no reason to flash the L9. It is smooth and has everything that I need. Battery life is also great. I've been abroad the past week and you can imagine, how often did I use my smartphone - GPS, Wifi, browsing the internet, listening to music, playing games, taking pictures, everything with maximum brightness - outdoors. I've had absolutely no problem, or no need to worry about my battery. When I came home after 13-14 hours each day, there was still 30ish percent of battery remaining.
However, there are two cons of the L9: It doesn't have brightness sensor, so you need to tinker with it. It's not a big deal, since LG includes a brightness slider in the notifications. Another one is the GPS. It takes very long to get a fix, and it usually doesn't hold the signal for very long. I think this is repairable, I just need to finally get myself root privileges. Oh yeah, here comes the third one, L9 doesn't root as easily as S2 does.
So overall, I was satisfied with both, but will keep the L9, if I manage to fix the GPS. Otherwise, it seems like maybe S4 Mini for me.

My L9 can get a sat fix within a minute in my home with only north windows.
My Huawei tablet won't. My pna surely has the best gps receiver, but without a-gps capability it also fails.

About the gps, there are always tweaks for it and i also hardly ever use it... but did you guys already play with the settings in hidden menu? I guess you could see quite an improvement, if you add other gps servers and use lto or whatever it was called but thats too far off for now... well i really start to think, that your community will soon be able to count on me it's simply supercheap, looks good and got a grear battery backup, as far, as I can tell till now and maybe me and some of my friends will even be able to fix some bugs on your custom builds thanks a ton already guys and if there is any more criteria, that comes to your mind, just keep me posted!

Not the battery but the phone.Isn't there something like this will die right after warranty so people buy a new one? (Obviously it isn't exactly the same time for every same phone model, that would be too suspicious)

I bought the I9100 model when it was first released back in 2011, launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Frankly speaking, I've never regreted buying this phone (at that time, it was MYR1800, more or less USD$530, considerably quite expensive compare to other smartphones nowadays).
I took my decision to root, hence broke my warranty right after the first year running stock ROM/firmware from Samsung (full of bloatwares). The best thing about this phone was the flexibility to flash numerous custom ROMs. I started off with ICS-based then moved on to JB-based such as RootBox, SlimICS/JB, AOKP-based, Cyanogenmod, and now NeatROM AOSP KK. To be honest, I've been using this phone for 3 years and still rocking wild! I'm now back to NeatROM JB 4.1.2 Aroma making it most minimalist as possible and I'm quite happy to use it for the next 1-2 more years until I have enough money to get a new one (better processor, memory, resolution, etc) which at the moment, I don't it is necessary for me switching to another phone. I only changed my battery once for the past 3 years of using this model. Other than that, I don't have any problems with the hardware compatibility namely speaker, microphone, home button, power button, and volume rockers. I can get better battery life with my current custom ROM, standby time can go up to 2-3 days light usage and 2 days normal usage and a day (24 hours) of heavy usage. I'm on Apollo regular kernel, btw and it's pretty stable that my phone hardly becomes "hot", so choose your custom ROM wisely. I don't recommend you using the stock one because obviously, why would you need another SamsungApp store, music hub, video hub, reader hub, etc. sometimes I don't know why people have multiple apps to do the same exact function on their phones such as installing Chrome over stock browser, VLC/poweramp over stock music player, Google Keep over stock S-note or memo, you get what I mean. They only take your storage and memory! Keep it to bare minimum, folks! You will be happy with your phones regardless of how long it will last before it fails to work properly.
To answer your question, as long as you keep your phone away from water/fire, it should work great until you think it will become obsolete for daily usage. I use my phone mostly for Internet browsing, music and video playing, e-mail checking, light gaming, and hardly find any issues although 80% of my experience with this phone is using custom ROM.
Hope that helps.
My wife had her S2 for 2 years before she upgraded......the only thing that failed was the USB port.....and only then because of 'mis-use'......My eldest son now uses it....without issue.
I've had my S2 for 1 year now.....I brought it AFTER the S3 was released....for 2 reasons...
1) everybody was saying how reliable it was/is.
2) there are a lot of custom ROMs for it, and (at the time) there was a lot of dev support for it.
This phone is still a 'powerhouse' and in my opinion can still hold it's own against phones that cost considerably more.......

I have had phones for 7 plus years with no problems what tends to happen is companies stop supporting the product with updates, samsung seems pretty good and you can always come here if your model is popular. If your curious how long until get a new phone that depends on your budget and the difference in tech. I have had my korean s2 shv-e120l for a years, it is not a popular version but i will probably keep it until s5 is in my budget.

Im interested how much battery life you have when you run intensive 3d game because I only get <2 hours per stock battery (ones not enough) with all turned off, uninstalled system apps (now Ive <50) and all but the game and essential for the OS frozen, screen darker than normal (ScreenFilter app)
Also what about overclocking?

Hi, I'm not sure about overclocking but I do know about underclocking/volting. I think it's fair that I keep my S2 to bare minimum, meaning it is only equipped with some basic apps to do my everyday tasks in mobile way. That's why I only have a browser, camera, music and video player, calendar, contact, phone, calculator, fm radio, gallery, file manager, messaging, and play store.
To me, if I want to play games, I'll be on my desktop PC or get a PS Vita if I'm on the move. If 70% of my daily time listening to MP3, I'll get a WalkMan or iPod, and if I like to take photos, I'll get a smart camera. If you do all, get a smartphone. I know everyone wants to cramp in everything in their phones to be able to do everything but let's be fair to our 4 years old S2. The more you cramp in all other unnecessary apps, the faster your battery drains. This is why I am more into underclocking than overclocking kind of guy.
I'm eager to get my S2 running all of the 3D games on Play Store but I think it's better that I buy the games on Apple Store instead and play them on my iPad Air (since they cost pretty much the same; save budget; wise move?) because it has better performance than S2. It sounds like I'm under-estimating S2 but this is how I keep my gadget alive without damaging it in the long run.

MYR1800 when first released in 2011? Damn that's cheap, I paid full retail price at MYR2099 but got the 1st batch of the S2... :highfive: The phone now is still alive and kicking ass with CyanFox ROM...
