CM7 ROM & restoring apps - Optimus One, P500, V General

I recently flashed CM7 6.5.8 to my Optimus T (P-509)...it's really impresive. Anyway, the one thing I really liked (functionally & aesthetically) on the stock ROM is the Connection Manager that allows you to activate a data connection as well as monitor if wi-fi is being used or 3G data. It is true that CM7 provides this same functionality with the Power Controls widget...I just like the stock version more. Unfortunately, when I restore the stock Connection Manager via Titanium Backup, it doesn't seem to fully restore. For instance, placing the Connection Manager widget on my home screen only displays the title of the widget and nothing else. Clicking said widget does allow me to make my connection but the visual appeal is lacking.
Is it even possible to restore system apps/widgets to CM7 or is this a limitation of the ROM?
Thanks,

Is the widget you want called ConnectionManagerWidget.apk?if so here is the attachent.Install root explorer go to system/app mount as r/w place the ConnectionManagerWidget.apk there and change the permissions to rw-/r--/r--(if you don't know what is this look into the permissions off another app)

Thanks for the file! Seems like it should be what I want. However, do you know if it's possible to change the permissions without Root Explorer? Maybe with Terminal Emulator?
I've transfered the file to /system/app but it isn't even recoginized as a widget option. At least when I restored the original widget it appeared as an option and was semi-functional. I hate to waste money on Root Explorer if this widget won't work. I've already wasted money on Groove IP for less than stellar performance. Not that $4-$5 bucks here or there will kill me but buy enough apps that don't perform and it can add up quickly.
Regardless, thanks again.

Have you or anyone tested the rom to verify this? While a new rom with extra would be great, I wouldn't want to waste time downloading something that didn't improve my phone but on the other hand I'd like several people to give an opinion after installing the rom to verify it works or doesn't work.
Ive got it on my phone just now and while the OP is correct, it is full of pirated apps but with its JIT enabled the bloody thing flies lol.
Marketplace is fine for me so far.
I must admit im a bit disappointed as well and will be reverting back to my old backup for now till something better comes along.
I tried it too, and finally restored to do same modifications myself, due to some bugs : physical keyboard in qwerty (was AZERTY, impossible to come back), no more Sym/àü, ...
Done in 2 hours.
I actually went back to his ROM due to the speed difference.
I also installed Titanium Backup to get rid of some of the crap he installed which cant normally be uninstalled.
I use Fancy Widget Pro but the Taskiller hes installed keeps killing it
You need the Titanium Pro version though to uninstall stuff.

You can download the Titanium Pro using the Applanet, but yes, it's warez...
Or you can uninstall the Taskiller using the Root Explorer (just go to system/app and remove the app you don't want).
Or you can add the Fancy Widget Pro to the list of exceptions of the Taskiller.

Good idea, never thought of that lol
No matter anyway as i uninstalled it
or use advanced task killer, which lets you put it on ignore.
You can also improve speed, as well as battery life, by deleting a lot of the "sony ericsson" crap found under "backup" when opening titanium. Additionally, delete SE's "home" if you don't use it and any language packs under "system/user/keyboard-config" and "system/usr/zi"
I've also erased bluetooth, GPS, maps and text to speech (since i don't use them) without any problem.
Other tips for saving space -
Delete unecessary ringtones, alarms etc... under system/media/audio
Delete unecessary wallpaper from system/etc/customization/content/com/sonyericsson/homescreen/wallpaper
Delete boot animation (sorry, can't remember where this was)
Of course this isn't for averyone but personally I like a slimmed down, respnsive phone
Any way of getting the stock SMS/MMS back?

[APP] Google HC Calendar 3.2.2

Hey all.
Some of us using custom roms have been looking for and asking about the HC google calendar, as it has a better appeal to some of us. I extracted the .apk from a xoom rom and all works great. So i figured I'd post it here for anyone else who wanted it.
All you need to do is place the .apk in system/app/ folder. (I used root explorer to paste it there.) Dont click install since it wont work, just reboot and it will show up in your app drawer. I renamed the old calendar to calendar.bak so its still there if i ever want it back. Hope you all enjoy.

I renamed it Calendar.apk
worked fine for me on task 5.2
Saw the app after reboot, opens and edit calendar entries. Although the Cal widget FCs.
Did change the name to only Calendar.apk, but did not even touch the permissions.
Thanks for sharing - hope we can get the widget to work.
works for me. i didnt rename it. i thought i needed too but apparently it works fine just as it is. but i did change the permission to rw- r-- r to match the original permission.
personally i prefer the monthly view from the TW version. but the weekly and daily view from the HC version.
works great for me... thanks
does anyone know the way to let my tasks show up on the calendar. it just show up the events

I didnt rename it or change permissions. All i did was in Root Explorer i made sure i was in r/w mode.
Not sure about tasks dont have the tab near me so can check. I use a task program called Tasks N Todos it syncs with google and works like a charm. I can even do recurring tasks and create folders.
The widget from the TW calendar stays but doesnt work. I wish i knew how to remove it, bugs me having in my list. There are widget apps for calendars, but i dont must have a widget anyways.
I considered a screen shot but realized i have too many private stuff in my calendar. If someone would care to make on and ill add it to the OP.
Glad its working for everyone didnt think it would be this much in demand.
Hey medic97 - which rom did you rip this file from? I think calendarprovider.apk needs to be replaced as well to fix the fc's.
This seems to be lacking the List (agenda) view my prior Calender.apk had that I found very handy. I have been running Task ROMs.
Edit: Calender.apk with List view option shows About: 3.2-UEKMM. I restored back to it and will keep it as I like that 'List' list.

[Q] Freezing Apps

What program to use and what is safe to freeze? I have already tried AntTek app manager and App Quarantine. I have root explorer and not quiet sure how to use it to freeze apps.
I use Super Manager but I think the free ver won't do freezing. Its build into the apk manager.

Use root explorer to find the system/app .apk u wanna freeze and rename it to.bak
Be careful..freezing some apps can cause force closes or issues in other apps if they are dependent on the one u froze....nandroid first just in case u need to restore
Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) and ROM Toolbox Pro (paid version) freeze apps.
I don't know of any free app that does this.

I didn't create rooting
I know what you mean tho lol
All u gotta do is long press the apk and choose rename....and just add to the name .bak
(u gonna have to mount/system as R/W first to be able to edit anything though....just Tap the gray button on top of screen once u are in /system/app)
After you rename it there is no reason to move it. You could just move the apk to your sd card or straight up delete also. But I don't recommend that until u figure out what is safe to remove without causing problems....
As I said tho...be careful what u "freeze"
Things like Yahoo.apk if frozen will break your contacts.. They will force close on u.
Ooh yeah...and thank you hope yours is too
And your welcome.
Have fun experimenting! Lol
Ok.. Got it so it will just stay in the same location. So, no freezing yahoo.. My year has started out not drama free...lol

Just FYI....Rom Toolbox Pro is currently 50% off @ Google Play:

I highly recommend this. It is aptly named. It takes you from five or six different apps to one.
How does the backup compare to TB?
I find it to be better except for the lack of dropbox support. If you install an app, RT automatically backs it up which has saved my butt a couple times.
My only question is, is it worth it since I have TB Pro, Root Explorer, and Set CPU bought already?

Had this app a long time, it's by far the best root app out there. It's like combining those, the various apps for build.prop mods, terminal & script apps, autostarts, auto memory manager, and some of the themeing apps.
Not the worst $3 dollars your ever gonna spend

Yes and no. Lets say market gets updated to play. ROM Toolbox then creates a backup of Play as soon as it's installed.
Grabbed this on Lokifishes recommendation. Replaces a few apps I've already bought. It also seems like it doesn't really do a lot of the Rom managing stuff itself but I'll have to look deeper into that.
Fyi - if you are on any version of cyanogenmod. If you want to install a font, you need to choose your font, apply it, cancel the reboot, install the font again, decline the reboot, then manually reboot. If you don't do this, there is a 95.73859% chance your phone will bootloop.
Cheers

Any way to remove the new Facebook camera/messenger app?

It now comes installed with Facebook and i don't want another camera icon in my app drawer. I'm using touch wiz so using another launcher is out of the question. I've checked Tibu and it doesn't see it. I'm sure others would find this info useful as well.
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
Sorry don't have an answer, but you're not the only one. I've been trying to find a way to remove the redundant camera and messenger app icons as well.
I've figured the best solution is to reinstall an older version, but then we'll never get any of the newer patches/updates without a solid solution.
Dont use the stock app. Use the app called "fast facebook" it is locally made from here at XDA and makes facebook browsing way better.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fastfacebook.com&hl=en
I just noticed the new icons and wrote a quick app to remove them. Unfortunately it doesn't work since 3rd-party apps can't get access to "android.permission.CHANGE_COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE" (which makes sense) and can only disable icons for their own application. Going to see if root helps...
Root did the trick, Facebook Icon Remover. Hope it helps and let me know if you run into any issues.

How does the icon removing work? It certainly could. There is a little detective work involved with figuring out the package/component names (they are hard coded in this app) but I am already working on extending this to allow the disabling/hiding of any application icon.

The app is using the 'pm' (package manager) command to disable two components (activities) in the Facebook package. It probably won't work if you've already uninstalled it. The components should be part of the com.facebook.katana-2.apk package (that's how it was named on my devices, both in /data/app/). You could try reinstalling Facebook, using this tool and then uninstalling to see if that removes the icons.

ICS users can simply select the 'Hide applications' from the action bar in the application drawer and then tap the applications to hide. You can then select 'Show hidden applications' from the application bar to un-hide them. I don't have an ICS device on me and only have one day experience with it (just got my Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday) but hope this helps. If not let me know and I can provide more detailed steps tonight.

Nevermind I removed manually the fb.katana from /data/app and its folder in /data/data and everything disappeared. Yay!
The only thing left is in Settings>apps managemente>all, there's still the com.facebook.katana listed even tho I already uninstalled all updates, weighting 0.0B and with the SD card icon. I tried to look for it in the SD directory but I found nothing. It's not a big deal in the end but I'm a perfectionist.
This also happened for Gmail and Google Quicksearch Box, while for Wisepilot after a reboot the broken SD link was gone.

I may have been given incorrect information regarding the "Hide Applications" being a stock option in ICS. Can you try the attached apk and see if it works for you on ICS? If it doesn't work then any logcat output you can send would help me troubleshoot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat if you don't have a way to view/save logcat logs already).
