I apologize to everyone if this has been answered (I'd be surprised if it hasn't but couldn't find it using search).
I recently moved from a v1.1 bootloader ROM to a v1.2 bootloader ROM. While I was on the v1.1 bootloader I enjoyed using ClockworkMod .8 to do my flashing/installing/clearing/wiping/backing up and restoring. Now that I've have to rely on the Stock recovery to install my current v1.2 ROM I really miss having the ease of use of ClockworkMod. I am currently using Roebeet's Mountain Laurel 3.1.0 ROM but it's got the stock kernel and aside it from feeling sluggish (compared to VEGAn 5.1.1) I can't get VPN to work on it.
Using his instructions I "enabled" Clockwork that is supposed to be compatible with v1.2 ROMs on this tablet and actually succeeded in booting into Clockwork recovery. After Clockwork came up I flashed Pershoot's last Froyo kernel for the gTab and then rebooted. It came up stuck on the birds screen and I had to NVFlash back to where I started from.
So my question is has anyone successfully installed Clockworkmod v3.0.2.8 on the gTab running a v1.2 ROM and was able to flash a custom kernel and the tablet didn't get stuck on boot or suffer any other reboot related problems? My current experience is that only the Stock recovery is happy on my tablet with this ROM for some reason.
Any info that would get me to the point where I can run this ROM with Pershoot's last gTab FroYo kernel (7/27/11) successfully would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Steve
Update: I really owe everyone an apology for having overlooked such an obvious piece of information that would have made the hassle of the last few days of near-constant NVFlashing unnecessary. The instructions from Roebeet was fine, the problem was me (of course; user-error). ClockworkMod was working fine and is now still working fine on my gTab. The part that was the obvious thing that I should have noticed earlier was that the version of Pershoot's last FroYo kernal for the gTab had 2 versions (1 for the 1.1 bootloader and another for the 1.2 bootloader). Once I finally noticed that little discrepancy between the kernel zip file I had and the one he listed on his Droid Basement blog site it was smooth going. I was even able to install SetCPU to change my tablet's operating speed and as another bonus I was able to install the 5 VPN app from the Market to expose the VPN settings on the gTab using the Mountain Laurel 3.1.0 ROM and actually set it up to use my VPN account from my VPN vendor (StrongVPN). I am currently in Texas watching a program using the BBC iPlayer app as if I was in the U.K..
Now if I can get the VTL Launcher running on this ROM without it getting into a seizure of force closes I'd be out of things to want for on this ROM.
Anyway, let this be a lesson to everyone here that you don't have to be a noob to suffer a brain-fart.

I downloaded the files from the thread in the development forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951822. I tried doing the steps listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 and could not get it to work. When I rebooted the Gtab, it would just hang at the Viewsonic bird screen for about 15-20 minutes. I tried a few times and the same thing happens each time. I then used the stock 3588.zip to go back to the stock rom and the Gtab booted fine. I have since followed the online video to install tnt lite 4.2 and I substituted in 4.4 but I was successful in making this work and the Gtab booted just fine into TNT lite 4.4. Can anyone explain to me why I am having problems with Vegan tab? Or at least maybe someone could walk me through the steps..
Thanks!

Yup same thing happened to me. Vegan 5.1x works and none of the gingerbread ones.
I repartitioned 2048/0
Reformat tool
reinstalled stock
Did above without reinstalling stock
My original tab works great for the gingerbread roms, while the woot batch does not. (have had 2 cross my desk so far, we bought a lot of them for work purposes)
It's not horrible because vegan 5.1.1 works and that is fine.
Asop (both variants) don't work
vegan gingerbread experimental doesn't work
CM7 RC 3 + RC4
they all hang during the viewsonic birds screen.
The only thing I have not tried, is not using the update method for installing CW .8 bekit, but trying the old nvflash method instead.
So I may break that out and give it a whirl in a bit... But this one has me baffled. Prolly need someone with higher android IQ

Thanks for the response. I talked with my brother who also bought from the woot sale just like myself and you and he successfully put the vegan gingeredition experimental on his. He was walking me through it the way he did it and it hung for me at the viewsonic screen but his works just fine... Kind of weird I think. Anyone have any options or instructions for us?
I just installed Vegan-Tab 5.1 beta with the supplement and it worked fine. I am up and running with zero problems. I am still stumped on why the Vegan Tab ginger edition experimental will not work. It just sits at the Viewsonic screen. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Well here is another one to add to the mystery.
Networking guy came in just now cause stock was FC on installation screen. So I used the sd card cw install.
Partitioned to get rid of FC
mounted as USB in CW
added rom + kernel + gapps
flashed all 3 of them
Bingo - tablet booted up...
now I am really scratching my head.
Tried gingerbread asop + gapps + pershot booted the first try.....
So 2 tablets no gingerbread love 3rd tablet installed perfectly the first time.
I got one of the woot batch and am running the vegan experimental without an issue.
Actually, one issue I've found is that once i activated airplane mode it greys out the option so you can't turn it off. I can go into settings and enable the wireless, but the airplane icon becomes a permanent fixture in the notification bar.

Im pretty sure its the bootloader at this point. Need to update to 3588 (first before putting on CW .8) I'm thinking that the gingerbread roms just don't run on 33xx though they work perfectly on the original bootloader.
Will see if I can find a volunteer today to test this on (been just pushing 5.1.1 since it worked on all the tablets).
I think Roebeet has a package that updates to 3588s bootloader so will give that a whirl today.

What kernel are you using?

I have had the same issue. Got my GTab from woot installed Vegan 5.1.1 and it is running great. I've tried just about every gingerbread rom and it always hangs up on the viewsonic screen.
I did find this post but haven't tried it yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015286&page=2

after much experimentation, It's the internal cw package. If you use the sd card method or use NV flash gingerbread installs just fine.
*shrug*
No I have no Idea why either....
Hi,
I am currently using a Vibrant USA and I am running Bi-Winning v3 with the bullet kernel1.48ghz but i keep it at 1.27 max when I'm using it for most applications. I have been getting about a full 12 hour day out of a single charge while using Juice Defender ultimate.
First and Foremost I apologize if this question has been answered already, I did use all of the search tools described in the noob video
I have no complaints about Bi-Winning, I came from project-V and I have found both roms great and beautifully designed (with the trigger theme)
For my computer I am using a 27" Imac 2010 (osx 10.6.5 with current update) model with 8 gigs of ram and a core i7 processor. I recently found a program called the Winebottler. I was able to use this program to turn Odin into an Application that Mac osx can run. I am very intriuged by MIUI and CM7 as well as other roms such as Revolution rc1 however without knowing that odin will run properly I cannot try them. If odin messes up my phone install because Im not on windows then I could have corupt files that I could for that same reson not fix via Odin.
I was wondering if anyone has both operating systems or is a mac user with expierience in this issue. I have tried everything I have seen in other XDA formums telling me to use something like bootcamp or a disk partition (on my mac for dual os) but after several attempts I have not been able to get it to work at all. I would really appreciate any replies that might help me.
I was also wondering if the advantages in 2.3 would be noticable to someone who uses the phone for calls, sms, web browsing, video playback, verry little gaming(ocassional basic game like paper toss). I was also wondering if any of the 2.3 roms were fully working for everything but gps as I have a garmin for that.
One more thing, I once tried using rom manager to download and run miui 1.6.10 from project v but it gave me a hardware lock/rebootcycle wouldnt pass the vibrant samsung screen and no recovery or download mode was available. I know that It was totally my bad but that is my one expierience with flashing non edt roms.
have you tried heimdall it is a less buggy odin and it is for mac too...here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
thanks button if i helped
Yes, try Heimdall. I think it's the only native app that will work on OSX. I use it when I'm booted into Linux too.
Thank you
Thank you for the very quick response, I am installing Heimdall as we speak Hopefully i'll be on gingerbread by morning
just be sure to follow all the instructions properly on any 2.3.4 install and you should have no need for heim/odin. of course theres always a chance of a random error. but once you get the cm7 initial kernel flashed youcan factory reset reflash from that. haven't had to odin back to stock and i've flashed cm7/miui and even tried the honeycomb 3.0 alpha rom. that was interesting. just take your time play it safe and go slow
as far as benefits go the aethetics alone to Me are worth the update to gingerbread. though i'm a pretty devout Miui fan the theming engine is gorgeous and the styles are slick.
Stability wise miui is good.
CM7 is... getting better
the Sgs II clone roms all feel solid and fast
and simply Honey is one many would swear by though i personally have yet to try it (really stuck on miui lol)
my recommendation get a few, try miui, simply honey and the sgs II clone (CM7 while awesome is still far from an excellent daily driver IMO) just flash one give it a whirl, titanium backup all your apps (not data) enter recovery factory reset, format system, cache, data, and datadata and flash the next one (fix permissions), rinse repeat till you find the one for you. No need to odin inbetween flashes. also rom manager when you enter it before using it to fix permissions set it up as 3.x to follow with teh version of clockwork recovery your using.
Simply Honey

Hi guys,
I am new to the XDA forums so forgive me if this is really stupid or if someone has posted the same problems. I searched for an answer but couldn't seem to find someone with my problem. Forgive me if this is long. I just want to make sure you guys know all the details so we can figure out what went wrong.
I recently flashed the Evil Fascination 3.6 Rom from a modified stock version of ED04 (debloated/debinged). I believe that my version of CWM recovery was 2.5.1 or something like that (w/ voodoo lagfix). I am pretty new to the Android world but I do believe I did everything correctly. I wiped Cache and Dalvik Cache and Data multiple times and made nandroid backups etc.
I flashed the Rom with no problems and everything worked just fine. I was trying out Regina 3D launcher at the time (I regularly use Launcher Pro), and for some reason it seemed a little slow to load up (I figured it had to do with it being the first time with the new rom). I kept having loadup problems with the launcher so I uninstalled it and went back to Launcher Pro. Launcher Pro even seemed like it was acting weird but I didn't take much notice to it.
Now yesterday I downloaded the OTB 1.6 Touchwiz kernel. Everything I've read said it was compatable with Evil Fascination. I tried to flash it from CWM recovery and it didn't work. My phone stayed stuck on the Evil Fascination boot up screen and finally I just popped the battery out. I went back into CWM and just wiped everything and reflashed Evil Fascination. It seemed to work fine with Launcher Pro (again a little glitchy at times, but I took no notice really).
I again tried to flash the OTB 1.6 kernel. This time instead of doing it from the recovery I downloaded an app called SGS kernel flasher. I did what it said and it flashed the kernel for me with no boot up problems like CWM did. I rebooted and then booted into CWM to check it and it was changed from version 2.5.1 (voodoo) to 3.2.0.0.otb. I figured this meant that the kernel flash was sucessful. I went to reboot my phone and when the home screen came on it was a froyo style launcher with only 2 or three icons on the page. I pressed the app drawer and none of my apps showed up that were on my sd card. finally i pressed the home button and it asked for which launcher to choose : LauncherPro or the default and I chose LauncherPro. My regular setup appeared and my apps were in the app drawer. I found it weird that my apps showed in LauncherPro but not in the default launcher.
Now with doing phone reboots my phone always goes to the default launcher with no apps from my sd card and I have to wait to press the home button for LauncherPro to appear. I set it as my default launcher but it never loads when my phone is rebooted.
I was just recently (within the last hour) doing regular things on my phone (texting, internet , email etc) ad all of a sudden I got the shut down boot animation from my rom and my phone turned off. I went to turn it back on and my phone stayed stuck on the boot screen again. Now you can figure what I did again. I went through and did everything over and reloaded the rom and kernel. I am still having the same problems with the launcher as I did before and I have no idea whats going on. I just want to avoid going through this again. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on???
If I were to guess I would say your problems comes from trying to flash the otb kernel with a 2.x.x.x recovery..i don't believe that recovery supports edify scripting.....i would odin a 3.x.x.x recovery and re flash the otb kernel...and I don't know much about that app you are referring to, but I wouldn't use a market app to try to install a kernel unless specifically directed to in the author's o.p.
I'm not a dev..just a flash-a-holic! but I think that should help your problem

I'm also no expert but after running into constant force closes and random problems with launcherpro I decided to go with go launcher and its been a great switch for me.

Hey guys, still no luck. I don't know what it is. I wish I knew more about hacking and doing all this kind of stuff
Try flashing a PBJ kernel!
can you get into CWM with the three finger salute?
[hold down the two volume buttons and the power until your phone reboots and you see samsung then let go]
See if you can mount as usb to get the kernel on there, if that doesnt work go to staples get a microsd card reader [under $15] and toss the pbj on your card then flash that.
When i was on EF and Comm Rom my phone didnt like the OTB kernels
Good Luck!
My recovery menu works fine and I can boot into it from the ROM without problem. My problem is that when I reboot the phone the ROM's default launcher is setup (and it is missing all of my apps) even though I set Launcher Pro as my default. I have to reset all my defaults in Launcher Pro every time my phone is turned off or rebooted. I would be on PB&J but I like to overclock my phone and PB&J doesn't support voltage control and I don't want to pay for and overclocking app.

From what I've read many people have disagreements on whether 2.5 supports Edify or not....because a lot of people have success with it while others don't so I really don't know. Its never given me problems in the past. I actually had more problems with 3.X recoveries (It wouldn't allow me to make nandroid backups and other things that were essential) so I flashed 2.5 and it worked perfect (again I've read about people having the same problems with 3.0 versions of CWM).
Okay what I've found is that this has nothing to do with Launcher Pro. I downloaded He Launcher and when I reboot my phone everytime it asks me to pick a default launcher. And when I'm using He Launcher, none of the apps on my SD card show up in the app drawer (they don't show up in the default ROM launcher either, they only show up in launcher pro)
Efan450 I tried what you said and it worked! I odined a 3.X recovery and wiped everything oof my phone then flashed the ROM and kernel and everything is working perfectly now. Thank you very much!!!
I am writing to report that I am having trouble with the jockersax 3.3 beta. This is the first time that I have had a problem loading either one of the jockersax
CM 9 roms I hope this is of help. What I had to do was flash it twice going through fastboot into Android Recovery.
Any other ROMs tested after you failed with 3.3?
I'm starting to wonder if it's possible to burn out flash memory used for ROM.
My own Atrix works pretty well with 3.3.
I'd like to know how many times it's safe to flash a new ROM with respect to memory life?
flashed it once
flashed ver 0.3.3 only once and flashed gapps no issue.
even flashed 1.45 kernel
in the past had alternated between cm7 & cm9 without any issues. haven't gone back to CM7 ever since jokersax released 0.3
I have been using both turl's and jockersax's Kanged CM9s both work well but I have not been able to get the video to work which I use at times where I work. As I posted flashing jockersax 3.3 beta was the first time I had any issues with flashing a rom on my Atrix 4G, but it was a good learning experience as I learned how to use fastboot to navigate into Clockworkmod Recovery. Second on the issue of life span for memory I belive that pc solid state drives are supposed to be able to do over a hundred thousand rewrites so I would guess that you would buy a new phone before the memory was degraded. One thing I don't understand is why everything is not on removable media that way if you had a problem you could just flash onto a new chip and install, that is how the Raspberry Pi is and I don't see why it could not work for phones. But the truth is probable that it would work but then the "Providers" would have less control over us.
Overclock HTC Explorer(Pico) running CM11.
Greetings.
I am a recent android revert from iOS. And I had been using the wealth of custom roms here, learning rooting and flashing using my HTC explorer as sort of a Lab rat.
I recently installed CM11 for HTC Explorer and now I had been trying to overclock my device but have failed so far. Here is what I have tried so far.
I first tried to flash Pandora R3 zip using twrp 2.7 recovery. As a result the device went on a bootloop of htc logo. I restored back the CM11 ROM.
Next I installed Philz recovery for htc explorer and again flashed pandora R3. I cleaned dalvik and cache as well after flashing. This time the device remained stuck at HTC logo for several minutes, after which I installed twrp again and restored CM11.
I'm using a class10 16 gb Sd card with a 1gb sd-ext.
I tried to search for a solution here in these threads but couldnt find it. My apologies if this has been asked already.
Please assist me in overclocking the my device.
Pandora appears to be a Sense based kernel, so that's why it is not booting with CM11. http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?do=process&searchthreadid=2238754 You will have to find a version of the rom that already has a kernel built with overclocking in mind or find a kernel that supports the version of CM11 that you are using. When I glanced in the forum for your phone, I noticed the "stable" version listed in the main Development section mentioned it had overclock ability, though do not know if that was for an older build and/or if they kept that feature. http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=386767239 I did not find any users mention it in the thread about if it works and how well though. If you flash that rom, make sure to read through the last couple pages. Seems like you have to take an extra step or two to make the camera work.
I am totally lost. Can anyone please help me out. I need to overclock my HTC Pico.
Is their any updated kernal that is compatible with CM11 and can be overclocked? Or any other method. Please assist me.
