I've searched the forum + google for this answer but I've come up with nil. Whenever I download a ".myapp" file from android bazaar my phone just doesn't know what to do with the it. Is there anyway to get aptoide to open up the myapp files by default.
Android doesn't support .myapp files. Android applications are in .apk format (Android Application Package file). So no, there is no way to allow it to recognize/install those files.
I figured it out. I used firefox beta and it gave me the option to open the .myapp with Aptoide. Hope this helps someone out.

Did it allow installation of the file?
well the myapp file isn't actually a program file. i think it just shows aptoide where to get the program from on the server.
Thanks
The firefox Beta works. Thanks!
In android you can open it by ex exploe rand copy link from http to apk .in win just go to m.aptoide.com download myapp files open it by noodepad and copy link from http to apk

Hello,
I've Urukdroid 0.7 installed on the SD card of my Archos 70.
I would like to upgrade to 1.0.
Following the wiki I've to download a file UrukDroid-1.0-upgrade.tbz2 but when I go with the default web browser of Archos on the link provided in the wiki, the web browser opens me an "ugly" text page will all strange alphanumeric caracters in place of proposing me a pop up to download the file.
Any idea how to solve that?
Rookie question...
Thanks for reading...
Vincent
Longer press on link and then "save link"
I had the same issue yesterday
This is because the browser dont know the *.tbz2 file, so the browser open the file as a text document (standart option)
You have to do this with the "fix" from the first poster
Or (if you have dolphin browser hd) you open the site and klick on
menubutton>>more>>save page

First thanks to you two for your fast answers.
I don't have installed yet the market in Urukdroid mode then no Dolphin.
I pressed long then save link then I've a file UrukDroid-1.txt of 139Mb.
I renamed it with the right full name. I copy it with the default file manager in a directory UrukUpdate I created by myself under Android/data that is displayed in "Internal" even if I install UD06 on my SD card...
When I ask to force update via urukconfig, it says that no file found in /data/UrukUpdate.
Knowing that during the installation of UD06 on my SD card, I said No to copy the data, is it normal that /Android/data is under internal and that no /data/UrukUpdate exists?

1) You can download free apps also under freewarelovers.com
Link to download Dolphin Browser is :
http://www.freewarelovers.com/hotlinkmenot/temp/62535a/1300039853_Dolphin_Browser_HD_4.5.0.apk
2) You have to this with a root file manager (not the /data directory in the "normal" file manager (this file manager only check the /storage directory ))
You can download AndRootFile (the best free i know) here:
http://andbox.googlecode.com/files/AndRootFile_3.0_beta_signed.apk
Hope i could help you

Hello,
i am using APP Inventor, but it put my question as general from Android.
How can i directly download a file from WEB without the browser try to open it.
I i put a url like: privatesite.blablabla/image.jpg
he will put the image in the browser, because browser can load the file and show it on screen, but i want to download it without reading it.
I need that to put inside App inventor, but if it's possible to do it in HTML or other, that's ok, i think i can make app inventor run an external application.
Thank a lot

Well, you can do it programmatically, so maybe an app can do this, with a page in which you just put the url and it gives you the possibility to retrieve the file in your filesystem.

You might find a good way to solve it using cURL, which also has been ported to Android.
Hey Guys, I'm a newbie so be gentle. First off, this website is the best. Thanks for lost of tips and tricks. OK, I've rooted my NT. Where do the downloads go? I can't find them in any Nook folder? Can I specify where to put downloads? Since I rooted am I not seeing some folders? I've download pdfs from the web and I've downloaded epub from my library via Digital Editions adn I can't see either on the NT. Thanks.
Usually, when you download through a browser they go into /sdcard/download.
Sent from my pseudo-Nexus S using XDA premium
Whenever I download from the stock browser they end up here:
media/My Files/My Downloads in the root directory of the tablet
You might need to download an alternative launcher I personally use go launcher
Greetings...How do u get to media/My Files/My Downloads?...
Or how do u navigate through the different directories for that matter?...
Thank you...
use ESFileExpolorer to navigate through your /media folders...
Thank you mac4rfree for the feedback...I've installed it and poked around, but don't have a full understanding of what I'm doing or navigating it...Is there a tutorial that can walk me through how to use it, what it does, etc.?...
Thanking you...
My downloads with Dolphin go into the dolphin downloads folder.
Bill
@thesal,, first go to settings clicking on menu button,,,, then you cann add "/" as home directory,,, if you want to write files to the root, then check on root checkbox... hopeful that will give u a start
check out their site too..

Let's say you don't have internet access at the moment.
Let's say all you have is fresh install of CyanogenMod 9, which for some reason, does not come with a File Manager :face palm:
Let's say you have an apk file on your SD card.
How would you install the apk file? Terminal emulator, using which commands or another way?
By the way, ASTRO File Manager vs. ES File Explorer, which one and why?
- Put your apk file to sdcard (ex: es.apk)
- open internet browser
- type "file:///sdcard/es.apk" then press Go

I just figured this out on my own and it worked:
How to install app called Example Name.apk from Android phone's Terminal Emulator:
This shows you how to change directory to SD card ; list contents ; change directory to folder called Google Play which contains file to be installed called Example Name.apk
cd sdcard/
ls
cd "google play"/
ls
su
pm install "Example Name.apk"
Yep there are many way to install apks

Wow...exactly what I wanted to know.
Thanks for this! :cyclops:
No Explorer/No Playstore
This is a shameful noob problem. Can someone help me please? :fingers-crossed:
I deleted my file explorer app so I can't execute apks from my SD. Also I can not download them from Play Store because it crashes (probably cuz I deleted this system file that has something to do with managing Google Accounts. Currently, I only have the following Google apps installed - Google Backup Transport, Google Contacts Sync, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework)
I rooted my Sony Xperia Arc with the brilliant, super easy rooting kit found here
Putting down my phone details in case they are required -
Model: LT15i
Android: 4.0.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: 4.1.B.0.587
Should I just try installing a ROM otherwise?
Thank you so much for reading!
Just in case anyone else comes by here.
If I were you (months ago), I would have reinstalled the exact same ROM, directly over the ROM.
Or, I would have installed GAAPS. Or I would have connected a cable and dropped the files I needed, like a playstore.apk onto the phones internal memory, and then executed it through the browser. file:///path/*.apk
I was going over ADB from my PC, via usb debugging.
System app is just copy to your system/app folder.
and set permition to 644 (rw-r--r--)
Adb push *.apk /system/app
Normal apk is
Adb install *.apk

Gapps

You need to select the correct platform, ARM, and correct Android version and variant, I prefer micro, definitely not full.
You need to know how to install this from your sdcard before booting in.
Hi there!
Have searched all over and found zilch about NON PROGRAMATICALLY adding file types to Android that actually works.
Does anybody know about an app that can do it?
The most logical to me was that File Expert or ES version could do it, but couldn't find it. And some links said that Astros could do it, but haven't found the feature in their latest version at least.
I just want to be able to click on the file and have it open the app without having to open the app first.
For example if I have an attached file in another apps storage space (outside normal file space) I can't open the main app first. And I don't want to have to download/import the file. Takes too long.
Thanks!
BTW-The app in question is SimpleMind, which unfortunately haven't had the good grace to register their file type for their own creation..
