If you're thinking about upgrading to honeycomb... - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

If you haven't already done so at least once (ie haven't run the HTC unlock) ...then wait a few days, it will be worth the wait.

I love surprises I haven't even rooted my tab yet. Can't wait to see what's around the corner.

ICS????
So Soon?

The suspense is killing me, and I don't even have a Flyer yet.

Dave,... will I dream??

Sounds like an easy upgrade path, a workaround for the HTC unlock.

I doubt it because he said that those of use that did the HC upgrade already will benefit and that it is bigger than the official HC release. How can an easy update method be bigger than the official release?
It's ICS. I think I'm going to buy another Flyer.
Thanks Globatron.

Dude, it is not ICS. Not because it isnt possible but because he said it would specifically benefit those who haven't done HTC unlock yet. Don't go buy another flyer because you think ICS is a couple of days out.

It looks like the same hboot as the leaked ruu so I take it the rom is the same too? If not then that means htc probably could have shipped it with an unlocked one but didn't.

8 days and counting, can't wait.
I spent a good 6 hours last night prepping my Evo 4G for trade in, unrooted it and installed the stock 3.70 RUU, which finally gave me the 4.22 OTA update as well. Had the "main too old, update failed" problem for the better part of 5 hours, solved it by re-doing the mtg-eng.img through adb, the 3.70 RUU went on just fine after that.

You currently can't root 1.5 without using HTC's method. Revolutionary is supposedly working on it but its been along time and there doesn't seem to be that much of a rush since HTC released their method.

It is possible to flash CM7 with the HTC Unlock . You have to do it through fastboot . But I agree with everyone here Im not really liking the idea of using the HTC unlock . I to have found myself on HTC's website but just cant bring myself to trust them . I have been waiting patiently for Alpha/Unrevoked to work some magic . That or hope like hell something goes wrong with mine and I get another warranty claim and get 1.40 bootloader on the replacement LOL
How long have you guys been waiting?

Full details can be found in this topic.

The hboot changed, the radio changed, the kernel changed and appears to be incompatible, all the methods I tried this morning to 'get it on' failed.

So if we have a bestbuy flyer that can't rollback to gingerbread, then we won't be able to upgrade correct?

Ok, I may be barking at the wind here but, is there a way to flash the required components thru fast boot commands (I am not sure if this can be done on the Flyer like it can on the Dell Streak 5) where you would use fast boot commands to flash the individual extracted components, base rom, recovery, radio, etc similar to adb. (since there is currently no proper method for US BB WiFi Flyers to revert to GB)
Cheers

Dear Ryno,
Thank you for emailing HTC Technical Support regarding an update to the HTC Flyer.

For those of you still waiting, I just called HTC and was told this exact same thing, word for word. Clearly reading from a script. Too bad. If you "want" to root Globatrons guide and support in his thread is top notch. The decision is yours though, It's your device. HTC told us it was coming soon earlier this year, soon is obviously a relative term.

Too bad, I believe that HTC will try to make it without any problem, but it really takes very long long time. More than half year was passed. I really need the function which allowing pen works on sketchbook or quill. I think i should not wait for htc and try to root Globatrons guide ..., shouldn't I?

Don't know but Globatron's theory is making a lot of sense now, carrier/operator pressure. There's no such pressure for the WiFi models, atleast none that I can think of other than customer service calls, emails, etc...

Even better we have the S-OFF rooted version. The developers have the source code too, what the heck do we need HTC to do this for? They won't be making it any better just to push it out to BB customers. You will get the same thing we already have, try it and then go to the rooted version anyway. So BFD ...
