Hi,
It appears I can access my SMS messages without my passcode even though one is set. I am using the HTC launcher as I have a Desire HD. My phone is rooted and I am using a custom rom, with Sense 3.5. RCMix3D v4.0
My phone already is set up with a pattern to gain access to the messages. It appears that if I add the SMS widget (albeit this is the HTC one) I can see individual messages and access the threads without even inputting my pattern.
Have I completely missed something here, as there doesn't appear to be a way in which to protect my messages as someone who knew this flaw could just add a widget to gain access to my messages.
Thanks in advance.
Jason
Remove the widget from your lock screen...

I do not have the widget on the lockscreen, it is just a widget on one of the screens.
If I have a pattern on my phone to gain access to my SMS message, and someone got hold of my phone, they could just add the HTC messages widget to a screen and then have access to all of the threads in my inbox without even needing to enter the pattern lock.
My point is here that the widget are able to get around the security feature... Its ok saying don't add the widget, my point is if someone else added the widget to gain access...

In the stock messaging app. If you touch and hold a message in the conversation you have the option to lock a message....however all it does is put a lock icon at the bottom of the message. I'm not noticing any other difference. How exactly does it work other than maybe tagging messages and still making them visable?

this is just to lock the message so if you delete the thread the message wont be deleted. It isn't to lock the message so no one can see it.
For that check out ChompSMS (not sure if handcent can) but with chomp you can go to setting->security pattern lock, and turn it on, and set your pattern. I think TigerText is on android now too
I've tried chomp and hand cent however I've had probs with mms . Thanks though

Your best bet if u wanna lock messages is App Protector Pro.
seems like there was one called cheatalot. something like you would launch the calculator, and shake your phone and it would open the "secret" texts or something.
First post haha.
Okay so here is my goal: I'd really like to be able to read my most recent text BEFORE I unlock my pattern lock screen. Preferably in the form of a popup. I really don't care if it's over it or on top I just want to be able to read it before I unlock.
I've done a good deal of searching, on xda and elsewhere, and I really can't find any information on how I might be able to do this.
I tried playing with the popup settings in handcent and I have got the pop up to show up over the lockscreen, but if the screen turns back off then I have to unlock the phone to see the text again. Is there anything I can do about that?
I even tried playing around with Sms Popup with no luck either.
Could I perhaps somehow remove the background on my pattern lockscreen so that I can see the popup behind it?
I'd also like to add that I'd really rather not use any third party lockscreen apps like WidgetLocker or Lock 2.0 because I really don't like them.
I know it's kind of a specific question but it's just kind of an aesthetics thing I guess.
I appreciate any and all help. Thanks.
I use go sms instead of the stock text message app, but when I unlock the screen on the 4-tab lock screen it takes me to the stock messenger app. Is there any way to link the go sms app to the lock screen instead of the stock messenger app? I really don't like widgetlocker or any other lockscreen app.
Go to app settings and find the stock messaging app and do clear defaults, then the next time you use the tab to unlock your phone it should ask you to assign a new default.

It says no default set and the button is greyed out so I can't clear anything
Any other suggestions
I only get the ICS lockscreen which is locked with a pattern so I have the risk of missing a call.
If I understand your question correctly, your lockscreen only works if you set a pattern? Depending on your ROM you can adjust the timeout for the lockscreen so that it locks right away vs. waiting a few minutes.
As far as getting to the dialer screen, you have to unlock it and open the phone app. More details will help though:
What ROM are you on?
Does the lockscreen work without a pattern/pin?
When someone calls you and your device is locked, what happens? Does it go to voicemail right away or does it show that someone is calling?
No.. I just get the ICS lockscreen when I receive a call, no answer-decline buttons. So I have to unlock the phone first before I can accept the call. This is because I have the sense dialler with the ICS lockscreen.
Is there an ICS dialler I can install to make the incoming callscreen showup in the ICS lockscreen?
I know what you mean, I installed the stock ics contacts and dialer app from the themes section and tried freezing the HTC dialer, didn't work and calls still come in on the HTC dialer. It may be part of sense?

Oh OK I understand you know. Sorry. You can try an app like widget locker which provides different style lock screens. That shouldn't interrupt your calls. It worked well for me.

If you're using something like leedroid tweaks to switch the lockscreen (at least over sense 3.6, that's all I've tried it on), there's no way to make calls show up on the lock screen. For now, at least, you have to unlock and open the app if you want to use AOSP lock screen on Sense (3.6 only? Haven't tried any other version.)
I know how to set up widgets, i have mail, text and gmail. The problem i am having is that when i get a new text message or missed call, it defaults to the stock 1st lock screen where it says "1 Messaging" "1 Missed Call".. Both without details. I would like to know how to get a Gmail and Messaging widget on the first lock screen to see what the message says and what my new Gmail message reads or missed calls, etc.
i can not figure out how to get more that 1 widget on each screen. Also how to remove the default "1 Messaging" notification screen.. Make sense?
It is my understanding that you can only have one widget per screen

With the default lockscreen you can only have one widget at a time. You can get around this by installing another lockscreen app like WidgetLocker Lockscreen.
You could also use DashClock which gives better information than the default lockscreen clock. To see more info you just swipe down and there it is.
To get that working on the default lock screen you need install DashClock and then go in to Settings/MyDevice/Lock screen and click on Multiple widgets. Now go back to the lock screen and pull down and then scroll to the left to the big plus sign. Tap on that and choose DashClock. It will now appear on your lock screen. Setup the notification that you want via DashClock. Now remove the original widget by tapping and holding on it and then drag it up to the garbage can.
Hope this helps you.

Even though you can setup Dashclock this way, it still hides almost all the information until you pull back down again to the screen edit mode.
The stock touch wiz lockscreen sucks. Widgets are clumsy if you use security. The app based lockscreens are all too buggy. Maybe someone will get the AOSP lockscreen working.
