I've looked all around, but I haven't found a way to get Google Calendar syncing on an unrooted Nook Tablet. It seemed like people were managing to do it, but I've been unsuccessful.
In ES File Explorer, I found Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk (which I never installed; were they already on the NT, hidden?) I've tried downloading and installing a new calendarprovider.apk, as well deleting and replacing the one on the system, to no avail.
Is it possible without rooting? If so, can anyone help me out?

I spent a few days trying to figure out a way without any luck. I finally rooted today and my calendar now works perfectly.

Un-rooted, microSD card, GoLauncher Ex, ES File Explorer, App Manager, AnyCut, Button Savior, Dolphin and probably anything else you wonderful people told me I needed to get for it.
There is an app called Ballero (it is in Android Market) this app is to sync up with a knitting and crocheting forum so it doesn't have a lot of people even knowing about it. I have gotten it from this site http://rav.cldellow.com/. Using stock browser. When I try to install I get told that the install has failed. (This has also happened with GoogleServicesFramework.apk, google-earth.apk, Google_Maps_v6.02.apk which I understood should be able to go on an un-rooted NT.) So with the Ballero I have tried to install, copy/paste the apk to systems/apps, unzip it into a folder called ballero and tried to copy/paste that into the systems/apps folder. I'm told that it cannot be done.
So am I missing something? Does this mean that those apps are not for this version? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Ballero doesn't show up in Market, so it's not listed as compatible wth the NT. However, I had no problem side-loading it from your link with the stock browser.
I'm pretty sure it requires the Google apps/services be installed as it links to Google Maps to retrieve yarn store data. I don't know about sideloading Google Services Framework, but I think you need this and Google Maps before you can install Ballero.
Maybe you're hesitant, but you really should just root the device. It makes things much more functional. If you follow Indirect's instructions closely (don't worry about the manual method, just use the script) on a PC that hasn't had any Android device drivers on it before, it's very easy and painless. Not that you should need to, but root can easily be undone and the NT restored to factory specs.
The root script should also have the option to install the Google apps and Market for you, which in turn opens a lot of functionality on the NT. (I have no knowledge of sideloading these because the root script did it for me).
I'm pretty sure you can't copy/paste anything to system/app without root permissions.

well did you mount the system folder as read and write? the system folder is read only by default, so you need to go into your es file explorer settings to change the permission from read only to read and write.
Thank you very much. You are right I am very nervous about rooting. The more I read here the more I'm learning and slowly getting more confident. Thanks again.
*As you can probably tell his is my first android device. If you know of a good book that teaches more about android os I would be interested in reading it. Thanks again.
Hi all,
I've just rooted my tablet today. In the process of removing bloatware, I accidentally removed Gmail and really need to have the Tablet S's specific Gmail apk file to install it back. It's impossible to install from the market, probably due to the android version.
And hell, why can't Google update the market a tablet version of gmail instead of telling to my face that my device is "incompatible".
Thank you.

Try this link. I cant access the mediafire at work so not sure if it will work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944069&highlight=gmail+apk
No this can't work. The link you posted are the APKs for Froyo. Tablet S runs Honeycomb, and needs a specialized version for the tablet screen.
I will need someone with a rooted tablet to get the APK for me :-(.
Edit:
I can see that you have a rooted S. Could you mind grabbing the APK named Gmail.apk from /system/app/Gmail.apk and upload somewhere? That'd be great.
Edit:
Installed that random Froyo apk (just so the system are fooled that there is some Gmail app). But running it will lead to the app being forced closed.
However, I used root explorer to replace the Gmail apk with the apk from this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310267
And it runs beautifully
Have you downloaded it from the market?

No. I use the APK from the link above. You need root explorer to access the system folders.
You can simply replace your current APK with this one, set the right permission and reboot your tablet. That should work.
But back up your original APK - I hold no responsibility if somehow the APK doesn't work on your tablet.

The ICS apk is nice
Just rooted yesterday. I was hoping to be able to use my Google calendar but the sync isn't working. Is their an easy way to fix this? I was an old thread in the development section but it looked pretty complicated.
I was on 1.4.2 B&N when I rooted with alberts 4.5 version and it is working great ... except for the calendar sync.
Did you enable it under Account settings? If you can't find that, try installing the Hidden Settings app in the dev forum.

Yes but there is an error message with just the calendar sync the others work fine
Odd, it worked for me (I've since moved on to CM7). Perhaps try clearing data on the calendar app. Have you opened the app itself? Perhaps you need to define the calendars you want in the app before going to account settings.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still not having any luck. The error message reads: sync is currently experiencing problems and will be back shortly. I'be used bussness calendar free and somnolence calendar I,'m pretty sure the issue is not with the applications. I downloaded synker but that gives me error messages also for the android calendar. I,'m going to keep trying eventually it will get sorted.
i'm having exact same issue as op. any progress on this sync issue?
everything else is syncing fine.
I was having the same problem. I could never get calendar sync under accounts.
I'm currently using CalenGoo with no problems. It's in the play store, and older versions are out there on the interwebs.
Another thing to try is to download the latest CM7 GAPPs package from the CM wiki ( google: CM7 GAPPs ---n00bs can't post links) extract the files and sideload the GoogleServicesFramework.apk (Not sure, but it seems to have given me access to more apps without incompatibility messages from the Play store and to have generally smoothed out some sync issues I was having with Google Docs)
I'm NOT on CM7 (tried it, now naively waiting for beta) I'm 1.4.2 rooted with Albert's excellent 4.5 version.
Yours,

After using the v4.6 root I added two files the Calendar apk and the CalendarProviders apk, but I had to get them from two different places to get it to work.
I can share the files in dropbox, but I am on the NT right now and since copy and paste doesn't work I can't paste the link. If you send me an email I can use the Share function and I am happy to.

Disbable.calendar syncing even if its getting an error. The files need to be copied to /system/app directory and then you need to reboot the device. After reboot enable the sync options again and it should work. In the calendar app you need to then enable calendar visibility for each calendar you want to see.
Some new information... I just recently had to totally wipe my Nook Tablet and start over. When I did what I just said to do, it didn't work. Found out that Calendar.apk should be copied to the system/app directory then CalendarProvider.apk beds to be installed. I don't actually know if either of them need to be in system/app but this.process is what it got it back up and running for me after having to redo my tablet.
I'm also trying to sync (no success until now) Google Calendar after I've moved my Defy into CM9 (build 2012.5.29, kernel CM9). I've tried all sorts of things: flashing different Gapps (newer, older), wiping cache/dalvik, but all I could get was an error message "Google Calendar Sync Has Stopped".
The only thing I did not try was a downgrade to Froyo Kernel.
Any one has find a workaround/solution?
For some foolish reason, I forcefully removed the Email.apk app from my LG Optimus Net with Titanium Backup. Before doing so, I did create a back up of the app. The reason for doing so was to install a different version of the Email.apk. Needless to say, when trying to install the other app, an error came up saying "Did not install". I tried to restore the previous app and the Titanium app just hung up and did nothing. I then found the a version of the "original" Gingerbread Email.apk and tried to install it and got the same error "Did not install". I also tried placing that app in the /system/apps directory on the phone. I rebooted the phone and no success with it showing up or installing. Multiple times throughout this process I also tried restoring the app, and restoring the app + data with no success.
Can anyone assist me in successfully installing Email.apk 2.3.4 on my device.
I obviously have root on the phone and realize that I can do all I want with the original Email app. If someone could also provide the apk too that would be great. Thank you!
With some messing around, I was able to get the Email.apk installed. Strange thing is is shows up as v2.3 with titanium back up and does not show up at all under mange applications. Its ok, I guess. If anyone can still supply the stock app from the Optimus Net it would be greatly appreciated.
GS3 (d2att) running Clockworkmod and Cyanogenmod 11-20140812-nightly-d2lte
Attempting to install blacked out version of Gmail but need to remove existing version of Gmail but I get the error "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed."
My search came up with most folks looking to remove their Gmail account not the app. The few I saw trying to remove the app were not rooted. Surely I am not the first person with this issue.
So I tried to remove Gmail with Titanium Backup but it just reinstalls itself automatically without prompting.
Tried to freeze then uninstall with no change.
Turned off my data and wifi and still have the same result.
Removed my Google account but still the same result.
What am I doing wrong? I just want to remove Gmail and install a different version. I have never had so much trouble.
Thx.

I'd use a file Explorer and go into two different folders. System/app and data/app if you find anything labeled Gmail delete it and reboot. That should solve your problem
