I currently attend the University of Houston and was getting absolutely horrible service. I contacted sprint, got a $25 credit. The rep told me i should be experiencing improvements very soon and coverage has already gotten drastcially better within a few hours. Any ideas of what could have happened?

The probably reprovisioned your account, unthrottling you. With the network vision stuff, we should see drastic improvements in Q1 2012 hopefully.
**** im on sprints ass about getting me my $75 upgrades they owe me.. 3 lines are eligible for the upgrade.. I know that they took it off, and know about the no more 75 upgrade... But its ON CONTRACT that they owe me. They want to walk away from it but i got that upgrade way before they took the 75 off from upgrade, and to this day and time its still on my contract that i signed. They quick giving ppl ETF, but when people like me quick to jumping at something that i earned in time, they dont wanna give me... **** em. Ima win this battle they will be giving me 225 credit for the 3 lines that are indeed by proof on my ACCOUNT that they owe me 75x 3 for upgrades.. Dont let this happen to yall! Fight for your rights! You pay for time u get what u get. Thats why people do what they do w roaming and free tethering cause sprint pulls this ****.. I say to all that do it, go on w ur badselfs. Sprint gets what they get for doing stupid **** like this.
Im clearly in right when it clearly says it in stone that my contract is eligible for the upgrade

Like hell they don't. After the Evo 4G came out and they offered their cheap unlimited, they had a huge influx of customers. After that, major network areas had problems with people even able to get data at all. How did they fix it? They let everyone have data, just at a slower speed. How else do you think reprovisioning works? Or deleting the Sprint proxies inside EPST?

Not true. Think of it like the QoS settings on a router. To maintain everybody having network access, they limit the speeds of everybody.

Ugh, are you kidding me? I didn't even know they did this so called reprovisioning. I've complained a lot before about their data, this is kind of the problem. Sprints equipment is way under par, that's why their data sucks. This network vision crap better be a big upgrade to both speed and capacity to their total network, or it won't mean jack in the long run.

Quote from the article---> "Will have simultaneous voice and data capabilities; while in 3G/4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas, the EVO 3D will allow web surfing while on the phone"
According to this quote the phone CAN do simultaneous voice and data on 3G. I have a buddy that claims his kyocera echo can do this as well on 3G. I'm hoping it can althought I didnt think it was possible for CDMA to do it on 3G.
The Thunder bolt does 3g/voice at the same time

There may be hope for the E3D then
This is one of the reasons I'm excited about this phone. One of the articles I read a month or so ago had technical details on how it worked. It was some extension to CDMA or something along those lines. It's about time!

I would absolutely love to hear how many units of the echo have been sold. Especially considering that they wasted money and time having that stupid "Industry First" event with David Blane.
Stunts like that are the reason why my friends think Sprint is crap
I have seen a few posts that Sprint's network is technically capable, like Verizon, of simultaneous voice and data but that Sprint specifically does not (or hasn't yet) enabled this functionality.
That is pretty disappointing. Shame on you Sprint. You would think that every carrier would have the function since AT&T used to brag so heavily about how the iphone could do it. I also read that only maybe half of the new EVOs UI will make use of the 3D effect. We'll know soon enough

Yeah.....my buddy is a true phone addict like I have never seen before. He gets a new phone like once a month!! He has soo many phones on his hip(active phones) it looks like a batman utility belt...lol. And for the first time ever in his life he is sorry about getting a phone.....the kyocera phone. I think it really "hit" him when he saw how much radio shack would give him for it when he trades it in for the evo 3d. The phone is only a couple of months old......paid a couple hundred for it and the trade in value is like 75 bucks or something. A true phone addict....all his money goes to sneakers.....phones.....phone accessories....and food. And occasionally child support....lol.

UGH!!! So frustrated. I had TMO, they don't get **** out here in Dothan, AL. I switched to sprint with the hopes of a fast unlimited data network I would be able to tether too, it has not been the case. It has been pretty lackluster, and now I have gotten the EVO 3D and it seems even worse!!!! I think I am going to return it and go to verizon at this point. It really sucks, because I HATE VZW. There phones BLOW! and they are ridiculously expensive, but what option do I have. Between Sprint's busted ass 3g network and TMO's lack of service out here, there isn't much for me to do....LAME!

Didn't realize just being on a 'military installation' in dothan, AL was what kept us safe??
Are you even part of a fighting force? I have a lot of military buddies, and customers for that matter, and I typically find it that those who do the most, talk about it the least. The many I know certainly wouldn't engage someone in a forum taking credit for keeping the US safe while sitting near Fort Rucker. You certainly receive no respect from me.

Certainly not asking for respect. To be honest, your opinion is one that I would have had prior to entering the service, but to continue with my honesty...I haven't been a part of the fighting force yet..but I know that I will be at some point(likely multiple) in my 6 year military career. I guess some people just don't understand the amount of freedom soldiers sacrifice to train, so that when they ARE called on they CAN fight for this great nation. I am not trying to make this a political forum...I found his assumption of me being someone who is too lazy to get an ISP illconceived....I am simply asking for peoples opinions because I know that I have a very static thought process when it comes to cellphone companies. I also find it irrelevant for people who work at Sprint to chime in and get offended for whatever reason. I will edit my post, so that it does not offend your demographic.

So its time for me to jump ship and move to a new carrier (Moved away and sprints service here is even worse then were I was) I'm not getting calls for job call backs which is hurting me a lot. So I will be switching to T-Mobile or Verizon. Never will go back to AT&T.
I love this phone though. I was a Evo 4G owner before EVO 3D. What phone would be best suited for me that is currently out, or coming out in the future for either carrier? Must be VERY powerful (I like saying I have one of the most powerful smartphones in available) And it needs to have a huge XDA base. I'm a flashaholic... (Pretty much rules out samsung...
You picked the 2 best carriers...
Verizon - Galaxy Nexus
There should be a lot of ROM's, cyanogenmod support should be quick, and the bootloader will be unlockable right after you get it. This is probably the choice that I would go with since the galaxy nexus is a google phone, the XDA base will be the largest, etc. etc. The Galaxy Nexus will be google's and verizon's flagship phone.
T-Mobile - One of the Sensation phones
I don't know which one has the largest XDA base, but I think all sensation phones are the same software wise (so it might just be one section). The sensation is also the flagship tmobile phone. I think the sensation has a great developer base since there is already ICS source ROM available.
Definitely the Sensation or Amaze 4G. Just one glance to he Sensation forums should give you an idea how big it is. It's at least twice as big than here.

If he's already switching, them possibly terminating his account isn't going to matter much. Besides, he'll save some money in the meantime

True, if he wants to get terminated he actually should use that PRL and stream videos/download movies/etc.
Roaming heats up my phone and drains battery but maybe the same effect isn't present on the PRL.
I will be paying the early termination fee to sprint.
If you go with Verizon, the HTC Rezound is the most comparable to the E3D, with a faster processor and a better screen (but minus the 3D camera, of course).

Yeah, go ahead and carefully look at the terms if service allows this. All carriers used to do it. Tmobile doesn't anymore for sure. I'm guessing sprint will be the same, that if you move into an area that has bad service that clause in the contract is null. It is worth a look, because if you signed the version of the contract that allows cancellation after moving to a bad service area you have the right to not pay etf.

What's their excuse as to why WiMAX wasn't deployed as fast? My OG Evo never even saw the 4G signal. I'm betting that by the time my area sees 4G, the successor to the 4G LTE will be out. It sure would be nice of Sprint to send me all my $10 monthly payments back for never connecting to 4G on the OG Evo. One can dream though.

I hate saying this as it seems silly at this point but no matter what people presented it as (media consumers and other retailers) Sprint never listed the $10 fee as a 4g fee. The mistake they made was not charging all web enabled devices which they later corrected. Even with that fee the plans are still cheaper.
And if no one has told you...wimax is no longer in deployment and will be non existing in a few years
I never had wimax...most likely won't have late at my home. I pay for home internet service and use wifi

Clearwire....thats the excuse why WiMax wasn't deployed...yes sprint owns majority stake of them but thats different than actually making the companies day-to-day decisions...
As for the bird reference...honestly i have no idea why sprint's PR person would even mention that...willing to bet someone got told to go home early on that one. lol
So following in VZW footsteps, At&t now has shared data plans as well.

I don't think this really deserved its own thread... There is an off topic thread for a reason.
Not trying to be an ass or anything also, I'm sure most of us already knew this
Yep, difference is that they allow you to upgrade and keep your grandfathered plans (at least for now).
Just saw the commercial.
Well, looks like ill be going to sprint when my contract is over...

Idk man. The unlimited 4G at T-Mobile looks nice when mine's up. Although, I'm trying to be hopeful that it will somehow encourage Verizon to rethink their stance because in terms of coverage in my area, no one comes close.
If you want to keep your unlimited plan just don't upgrade through Verizon. You can usually buy the newer phones on their networks for around $200 - $300 on eBay, swappa, craigslist, or amazon. Just pick up whatever phone you want and walk into Verizon and request a sim for the phone or have then program it.

I thought about that to but doesn't T-Mobile throttle you after like 500mb though and force you on 3g or 2g for the remainder of the month? I think sprint is the only one that won't cut you off. For me if Verizon forces me off unlimited I think I'll stay cause nobody else has as good of service but sprint might be tempting.

The new plan going live on the 5th is being advertised as truly unlimited. No caps or throttling:

Sprint can't throttle you because if they slowed it down any more, it wouldnt even load the play store. It already took long enough to do that when I had sprint. I loved sprints customer service but their data network is awful, not to mention it will take them forever to roll out 4g. Verizon might cost more per month but it's worth it. Sprint has unlimited because their 3g is so slow you can't use a lot of data and their WiMAX is almost nonexistent unless you live in huge cities. Just warning you guys.

Stamp. So damn true about Sprint... Verizon is second worst on 3g though, to be fair. GSM has always trumped CDMA in the 3g department in my experience.

Yea looks good but their 4g isn't that good or as fast as lte and they won't have lte for a while and their service isn't great especially in my area. But in the next 5 years when everyone has lte it will be good to see them really compete for customers.

Bonus is you can take the Rezound over to Tmo. They always have better android phones than vzw half the time anyway.

I never had a phone on att that worked worth a damn (iPhone back when I didn't know how truely evil apple was) on 3g but I have seen others on att do well on 3g. But 3g works well for me on Verizon. I use it all the time since it doesn't hog battery like 4g which is great in my area. But when I'm running a speestest on 3g with my buddy and his HTC evo 3d next to me and I pull almost 2.0mbps down and 1 up and he barely pulls a .5 down and .1 up with his 400ms ping, Verizon's 3g is the **** lol. But you are right att 3g is better, their 4g is garbage through. Everyone i know barely pulls 7-8 down on att 4g while I'm flying by them at 40mbps while streaming Pandora in the background

Yea I mean if atts service didn't literally make me mad, I would still use them just for the phones.. Verizon's is the only one I've had that I actually notice how good it is. The phones and the lock down aren't that great that ¦~\ but service is first and foremost. Plus on LTE I've never had lower than 11 down and 2 up (its usually over 15 and under 40 up, with over 5 down) and I've been across states down south in 4G areas... ATT and TMO and Sprint don't compare in places Ive been down here. Plus my 3G speeds are as fast and their 4G pretty often and that's unacceptable to me.
Pitty there isn't unlimited anymore and some gooder phones lulz

We can thank the bastards that have usenet accounts and use 50-100+gb per month for that one. It really is useless, they probably just have one for the sole purpose of racking up as much data as possible.

I don't really think that's the reason... But I'm sure they considered that as well... I think it's because they own so much spectrum that they can increase the price of whatever they want and people will pay for it... Plus ATT started the teird data garbage. Verizon followed a year later... Then Verizon started the share plan garbage.. now ATT has followed that. It's all about money. Data used to be a lot cheaper once upon a time, but not as good persay.. Personally I think they should still have unlimited 4G and capped 3G or vice versa... Idk though... Meh it is what it is.
