Okay, so I've been searching for the samsung service menu for quite sometime and haven't been able to find it. I need to adjust my microphone volume and it seems that the code *#*#197328640#*#*works only with the original Samsung dialer and not on MIUI. I am currently on MIUIScotland 1.11.11. The other Samsung shortcuts also don't work.
Is there any other way to access this menu in MIUI. Or any other way to access the microphone volume levels? Maybe get the original dialer on MIUI (quite a long-shot)
I have searched like crazy, but couldn't find anything...
I had a similar problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214253
Ended up sending back for warranty....
If you're rooted, there is a modified dialer around somewhere in XDA that automatically disables noise reduction during the call, which has improved mic level for some. You can do out manually though.
Another idea is that maybe you are holding the phone on an angle, with bottom of the phone (mic) quite far away from your mouth during a call. My missus does out all the time.....

Hi all
I have got a new sony x10 mini pro, and have an odd issue that seems a design floor.
When on a call my ear constantly presses the mute button and mutes people.
any one know of a way to remove the mute button on the interface or another app that can be used for in call functions.
any advice would be much apreiciated.
thank you
Mat
Place rthe phone closer to the ear so that the proximity sensor disables rthe screen

i have d same issue n keep muting calls
I have posted the same issue here
I use hands free but it is still easy to press with the side of your hand if you are holding the phone...
I notice on my phone the touch still works outside the screen border. and it sometimes goes on speaker or mute

Really need a fix for this. Mostly the mute button is the problem, but i have had the loudspeaker activated a few times too.

This is really annoying.

I really nead a solution for this.
I was also annoyed with this, so I made an app that launches it self after accepting the call to avoid the issue. The app can be found at my site on paxanima DOT net (can't post URLs yet, apparently)
I just made it, so not too much real life testing, but seems to do the trick.

Good work on that, thats a start.
But can someone just remove the goddamn mute button? UHHH!
It's too complicated for me. I think i installed like 4-5 apps but still couldnt get to the point where you can get the apk from the phone.
True, this is very annoying. SE has received plenty of complaints so I hope they're working on a solution. I am wondering if installing any of the new custom roms would sort out the issue for me since waiting for SE updates is a nightmare.
My problems started when I first updated to 2.1 where it happened in more than half of calls and got better with the last update and now happens only occasionally.
i never had that problem but i think that costum rom will help for these prob.
sory for bad english
Yeah, you have to be careful. Hold your phone from the back to avoid touching the front sides and slowly approach it to your head (the proximity sensor is at the top left of the phone). I'm pretty sure I look like a retard while doing so but hey, better than having the person on the other end saying "hello? is there anybody here? hello?".
Same here
This issue has also been annoying me from the beginning, and on every release of the SE standard ROMS. I don't understand why some people have the issue and others don't. Maybe it has something to do with the shape of one's ears??
No seriously, when i do some tests, like calling to my voicemail and then holding the phone in my hand, on some occasions the phone goes black after covering the proximity sensor with my finger, and sometimes the phone does not react at all when covering the sensor. So maybe some processes that are running prevent the proximity sensor from working correctly.
Would it be possible to adjust the semcphone.apk to have no mute button at all? I never use this option anyway.
Or is it only possible to change the shape and color of the icons/images.
As far as I know. When ever you made a call or answering call, the screen will turn off, right after you place the phone on your ear... So there's should be no pproblem answering or making call and suddenly pressed the mute button with own ear. Im using the same phone, and making almost 20 to 30 calls a day. And never even once encounter the problem as stated.

I get this problem once in awhile too. I have to bring the phone to my ear slowly.
can't we just replace the dailer APK with something from HTC or something?
I also hate the current contact list, theres no smart search.
Yes you can. But it has to be ported with some mod for it to work.

Hiya guys. Yes i am the dumbass who dropped a dumbell onto the galaxy. Phone is now fixed .......moving on
Anyways i get complaints of an echo noise off the person on the recieving end everytime i use a protective case to cover the device, but if i disable noise cancellation everything works fine echo free.
MY QUESTION: is there a way of disabling noise cancellation differently rather than having to do it during a call everytime which can get rather annoying!
Thanks in advance

On mine, it stays disabled until/unless I re-enable it.
Hmmm thats strange.......

If you update to KG1 (2.3.4) you will have the option. Once you get on a call and its answered, the icon / option shows up.
Some confusion to whether if its OFF by default and you can turn it on OR its ON by default and you can turn it off.
Anyway, its there once you get on 2.3.4
didn't find the option in any where...
This is the only thing that bugs me about this fantastic phone!

My brother has this exact same problem. We tried everything except hard reset...
His solution....buy a new case lol.
Its random I guess coz my wife and I also have SGS2 and we use that case just fine.

Im using VillainRom 2.0 and its OFF by default, when you press Menu and then press NOISE REDUCTION OFF, it actually turns it ON.
I think the option is saying that the NR is off, then if u press it, it will be ON.
Tested myself with my brother on a noisy street, sound is more silent when I press NOISE REDUCTION OFF.
I have tried two different cases and both encounter same problem. Arghhhh very frustrating!

If the case covers the bottom area (mic) I think you will have this problem. Be very interested to know if hard reset mat fix
No the area around the mic and charger port are cut open so that cant be the problem

The noise cancellation should be at the top of the phone. Right next to the ear phones jack slot. For my GSII, the Noise Cancellation cannot be disabled permanently. It is always enabled whenever a call is made/received. I've to manually disable it once the the call is connected. Unfortunately I'm still finding out solutions. Will share of course

I have the same problem with noise cancelling and echo, always have to turn it off each call.
Any solution?
I am running ICS on my SGS2 w/ the stock rom. I tried *#197382640# then going in menu [5] Audio does not work, i.e. when I go to the menu, it takes me back to the main menu automatically, as if it was disabled.
Does anyone have a good solution for having higher volume?
Thanks
First and foremost:
What was the last thing you did to your phone (even a week ago, or app install) BEFORE it started acting up?
What were the steps you took to do the change?
Have you done ANYTHING other than what you've started so far in getting the issue resolved?

The phone has always been that way.
I tried what I wrote in my post, but the audio menu is not accessible.
Hi
I really hope I can find an answer here. My speaker volume during call is too low, especially when I use it during driving.
Apps like Volume+ cannot solve this as they only boost the overall volume, and the results are not good enough (cal vol still too low, ring tome distort)
So I tried to boost spk vol using service/engineering mode menu
Dialed code *#*#197328640#*#* and taped optin 5 - Audio. But nothing happens. I looked it up and it turns out that Samsung blocked the Audio menu for some unknown reason. It also turns out that ths limitation is coded in the modem used. So I changed the modem to onld KI3 (GB modem). Amazingly it worked. Audio menu unlocked and I could change the max spk vol from 88 to 100 and my spkr during call was boosted and sounded just great...
BUT, my signal reception and bat draining is the worst I ever had. Plus, I cannot install a matching RIL because this is a GB based modem and I'm running ICS 404.
So, since the audio menu blocking is a modem related issue, I there any way to patch/hack an ICS modem.bin to unlock the service mode audio menu??? I've searched the entire internet and this entire forum and could not find an answer. There are so many fine and talented devs here, I wonder why no one has found a workaround for this. Is it technically possible to restore the audio menu in service mode? Is where are all these settings saved? I noticed there is a system app named servicemode.apk. Could this be patched? Is there a config file that holds all the menu settings?
I promise to buy a full case of beer to any dev who will find a solution to this. Also I cannot understand why samsung set the max spk vol to 88%and not 100%...?
Thanks
If you flash the old modem, change the volume then flash a newer modem does it not retain the volume settings? It worked with me for WBAMR settings.

Thanks. Already tried that. WBAMR works, but not with audio settings. In fact, even if you leave the old moden, audio settings get reset to default after each reboot... I really don't know samsung so anxious to prevent us from changing audio settings.. And why are they setting all max volume to only 88 or 86%???
To bad no one cares about this and try to do something... There must be a way to decompile modem.bin and unlock it.. I wish I knew how...
Fair enough. I tested it myself as I find the handset volume too quiet in many calls myself. If it was just possible to get into the audio menu then a Tasker script can be used to automate resetting the volume to 100 or whatever after every reboot. It's getting the audio menu that's the problem.
I don't understand wtf it would be locked out, why??!

So no one did fix this nor find a solution? I have used Omega rom for a year, and volume settings did work from STweaks. But after I did reflash on the same rom, same kernel, these setting do not work on in call volume. I mean, yes, ringtones are louder and other sound, but talking on the phone in a bit loud place in pain in....
I don't remember what modem I had, but I always thought it's newest one. Now I can't enter AUDIO menu, and cannot boost incall volume...
This may be because of some APK that samsung has in it's rom. When I installed Omega, "in this time" I tried NOT to install Samsung crap programs, and made thing simple. Maybe that is because of some missing APK?
Please gurus, help me, this is just stupid and making me crazy.
P.S.
This forum sometimes feels like dead one..
I have a Galaxy S3 International model and the mike volume during calls is crap.
If I use an ear piece no problems,
if i use skype the hands free works beautifully.
If i use it normally or handsfree for an actual phone call i have to nearly yell into the phone to be heard.
I have tried *#*#197328640#*#* but can not get into the audio menu, that just doesnt work. Other menu items do.
The phone is rooted and I am using cm 10.2.
I have tried doing a factory reset and reloading the rom but no luck there.
have done lots of googling but most pages i have found talk of hardware faults or a blocked mike hole which isnt my issue as it works fine with the earpiece and with skype.
i have looked at the profiles, tried turning them on and off. I suspect that there must be a setting somewhere but damned if i can find it.
Anyone got any ideas ?
thanks
Go back to stock 10.1.2 and test, S3 has two microphones so skype isn't a valid test.
If problem is still there on stock then you need a service centre.
Built in mike has modifiers on stock rom in the default gain file . But as i understand it it does not apply or is a different file for Android roms .
jje
are you using a custom kernel? if so, that's what is tweaking your mic gain. try the proper kernel for your rom that allows audio tweaking or ones that are properly tweaked out the box
