Do all Custom ROMS for all the positive features they may bring always result in less stabililty than a Stock ROM?
I imagine CM7 to be the best....seeing as he works for Samsung also. I certainly found it the best when I had the I9000/Galaxy. However looking at the CyanogenMod forum there are plenty of people raising issues with the builds (including 'stable' builds).
I really enjoy trying different ROMS usually but I am deliberately sticking with a rooted stock at the moment - and it has never froze, crashed or rebooted itself yet! I do miss fiddling with my phone though!
Thoughts/opinions appreciated.
Thanks

Yes.

If you want a stable rom, then use the one in my sig. Oxygen is amongst the most stable roms that are out here. It's almost bugfree, because the creater of the rom, Adam G is a perfectionist.
You have no touchwhizz, just stock android that works. If you are looking for a shiny rom, then this one is not for you. If you want a stable rom and an almost bug free rom, then this one is for you.
ps you won't find this rom on xda, because he does not want that anymore.
Samsung Galaxy SII
try this combination...
*CheckROM Revolution HD v3.1.1 (fast and lite)
*Speedmod-kernel-s2-k2-18-test8-CWM.zip (best battery life)

I don't know if you can say that. It has some coding from CM, drivers etc. But it is supposed to be a stock android rom, the way google intended it, with (almost) no CM stuff.

I got my Galaxy ace a half year ago .. and I tested nearly every rom / mod & theme .
but I am quite searching for a rom that has the best performance, the best speed and it should be very stable - without lags. It don't need to be themed - it can look like a stock rom.
Thx for your help xda-team ♥
Choose stock....like me, i know there will be more comment after me saying custom is better (of coz, they made it)
But until now no custom rom is stable...
I use stock wxks6 then convert to ext4, plus...cf-root kernel and lagfreeV2 script....all working well.
Owh, and now using miui launcher...cool

ICS Final hands down. After flashing some other roms and looking around, this rom is by far the most stable and fastest I've tried. Never had any problems with the rom and I've been using it ever since the Final version came out. The only problems I've had are with random apps and such, never with the rom itself. Got a champion right there ;D
Highly recommend it.

Hi,
I tested some ICS roms about two weeks ago but went back to GB checkrom v6 very quickly. It was laggy and not very responsive screen. So now I want a very smooth rom, good responsiveness. It should not be a Samsung bloated rom. So something AOSP based I guess. Is there anything you would suggest?
Thanks!

Don't be lazy. Make a nandroid backup of your phone so you can recover if something goes wrong or you don't like it, and try them yourself. Your phone, installed apps, and usage patterns will not be the same as anyone else's.
I will be surprised if this thread stays open for much longer.

I would strongly recommend Thebyani rom v3.9. v4.0 due shortly.

Hi guys,
I'm new in the Samsung scene, I've Always used HTC phones before. My question is not how to flash (i'll first search for it myself), but if anyone could recommend me a rom with the look and feel of the SGS3 software.
I've searched but couldn't find anything i think works 99%.
thx

Try Resurrection remix 2.6.1. Based on ICS and stable as a rock. I'm pretty new myself and been using it for a while.Easy to install and no issues whatsoever. :good:
First of all, are you sure you have an i9100 and not an i9100G, a skyrocket (AT&T or Rogers), a Galaxy S2 LTE HD, etc?
If you do have an i9100, this is the forum for you. If not, try and find your right forum...
I'd look in the SGS2 android dev forums and not the Original Android Dev forums. Alot of cooks have ROMs with SGS3-like themes... And there's possibly a touchwiz5 mod in the themes section. I know the ripple lockscreen was ported too...
To be honest, alot of ROMs exist but it's a question of taste... I know Resurrection remix is a popular one. Alot of people switched to Cyanogenmod when ICS hit though, as ICS wasn't up to par for Samsung's implementation...
Your best bet is to flash a custom kernel with CWM recovery in Odin (Alot of guides to do this) like CF-Root and then grab ROMs and flash them through CWM. If you want a kernel that's able to dual boot, you can use DreamKernel, Siyah, etc. That way you can get one ROM going and test a second ROM as a secondary. Dual booting can be achieved because we have a 500MB partition on our phones that isn't used for anything... Fun, is it not?
And The other rom is pfittech ics rom and is also stable and he is working on stable jb rom as among other devs

I'd go with rootbox. Just because the dev updates more frequently does not mean it's a better rom. The ones who don't update frequently just mean they don't have bugs to fix...

Hello everyone,
I have recently rooted my SGS2
using CF root.
Replace the Stock kernal with siyah 4.1.5
Then currently i am on stock ROM
slimICS.
HOw to keep the thread alive....
share your experience of Custom ROM which you are using.
Pros and Cons of the ROM...
Report any Bug..
We can then submit the issue to corresponding Thread or developer..
It is really your choice when it comes to deciding on a ROM.
A few things to consider, the JB 4.1.1 ROMs are available but not stable yet. So if you want to try the latest and greatest and don't mind the odd crash and random reboot it allows you the opportunity to report back your findings and assist in that way with development.
If stability is your concern, then you certainly want to go with an ICS ROM. CM9 is pretty stable as a recommendation.
As you mentioned earlier you could also dual boot to experience both. Just a few pros and cons for you to help in decision.
Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Theres no limit to the number of ROMs you flash in a day
Only make sure your battery is above 60% atleast before you flash a ROM, or anything for that matter.

Hey Manubr,
few dayz back i was also having the same question
should i try JB too ??..
ok so here is the answer.
JB ROMs are not stable since it has some memory leak issue.
It wil not be resolved till Samsung officially launch JB for SGS2.(will have to wait for stable version)
But CM10 team is trying to resolve infact minimize the issue and get the best JB ROM...
you can check there 30 sep nightly build...
Which i have installed it...
I m having SlimICS ROM1
and CM10 ROM 2..

There is a TW Neat and a AOSP Neat. Seems you have the AOSP Neat.
Anyway just dirty flash your rom again and it will overwrite the kernel.

so confusing, so do i need the cm version or the stock version mate, so many versions it drives me nuts, so its xwms3 neatrom v6.4, is that cm version or stock of perfomence x mod?

The one you will keep is a matter of personal preference. On the Galaxy S2 I use the AOSP version. It is lighter and you get Android 4.4.4. I do not like or use any of the Samsung crapware.
For starters keep the kernel that comes with the rom. It is more than good enough.
The link is here: [ROM][Sep 25][4.4.4] I9100 AOSP NeatROM v8.0.

so youre saying with the performence x mod i can use stock or the cm version? im on jelly bean 4.1.2 and yeah i decided to stay with the apolo kernal
yeah i still dont understand even after reading all through the pages of the performence mod, some people say i need the stock version if using neat rom, im guessing because its a stock based rom but he says if its a stock firmware to use the stock rom wich is what i thought at first
currently im using the stock version of performence x mod but id just want to know for sure im using the correct one for the best experience, im using the apolo kernal that came with the lite version of neat rom, on jb 4.1.2, but now im thinking i need the cm version because he says this
This engine works on any devices with any rom, but there is a version for CM's rom and one for stock based firmwares. So, CMx.x, Lewa Os, MIUI, etc.
Install the stock version only on your stock firmware of your phone....
if your device don't have gingerbread or ICS officially, install the CM version (This also applies to the AOSP)
Stock means the Samsumg Touchwiz Rom that comes with phone. Could also be a custom modified TW rom like Omega or NeatROM.
AOSP based roms are Slim, Paranoid, CM, Liquid, Omni, ... and, of course, AOSP Neatrom.
To further clarify, there are two NeatROms:
- Samsung Stock Based: [ROM][Aug 26][XWMS3] NeatROM
- AOSP Based: [ROM][Sep 25][4.4.4] I9100 AOSP NeatROM (Based on Slim rom)

thx for the detailed explanation mate, by the way i just installed the neatrom version you suggested with kitkat 4.4.2, i think the one i was using was a bit out of date, i like how light it is, lol it literaly comes with nothing installed really, anyways so i take it this aosp neatrom will use the cm version of the performence x mod then?
That is correct. AOSP NeatRom with CM version of PurePerformance.
If I were you I would use the rom for a few days before applying the mod. That would allow you to really feel if it will make a difference and if it is worth using it.

ah ok thx for the advice, im kinda not likin this one though mate, its a bit to bare for me, for a start i cant find the power save toggle no more lol, also it removed the default samsung galaxy music and video player wich i really liked and cant seem to get back, ive looked and cant find the stock one anywhere, there the 2 main things bothering me, i like to get rid of as much bloatware as possible. because then you can just have the stuff you want, but the stock music and video player were pretty decent
one other thing i went and installed the latest apolo kernal too, its the one for kitkat, had to update my gpu mali driver to install it, i just want the stock sgs2 music and video player back mainly now and ill be good
Samsung apps rely on Touchwiz framework. You can not run them under an AOSP rom.
If you feel you must have them, you have to use a TW rom, could be the TW neat rom.
I use these apps:
Video Player: MX Player - XDA thread MX Player
Music Player: Poweramp Music Player
The best apps to extend your battery life:
[APP][4.0+] Greenify
[APP][2.3+] LeanDroid - The most efficient battery saver

Glad to be able to help.
In this case I am not sure what to do. The S 2 I have is beeing used by my son and he out for two weeks.
Usually AOSP roms will allow you to suppress or change the network name. It is a status bar option called "Carrier Label" or something similar. I know it is not the best solution but it is what I can think of at this moment.
If possible please post a screenshot with the place where tmobile name is showing.
Not a problem mate apparently T-Mobile are same as virgin or something like that I read. Phone works fine. I put the kh3 modem on it too so that's probably why.
also you were rite about trying it without the performence mod, i did a tuntutu test before and after and with it, it lags like hell and i get 15000 and without it i get 17181 wich from reading everyone elses is pretty good, though i know benchmarks arnt accurate, its in game you get the results not these tests, but it can play gta san andreas well and thats what i wanted from it anyways, cant afford one of the newest ones
and theres not many games out that take advantage of the expensive ones yet anyways, games are gonna get good on these phones though thats for sure, maybe ill think about getting a better model when theres loads of decent games i cant play
atm i can play real trigger 2, real racing 3, though real trigger 2 on lowest settings for a smooth performence, gta 3 , gta san andreas overall pretty chuffed with this phone so far
oh and thx for the poweramp recomendation mate, its better than the samsung one, one last question, is it possible to get one of the stock weather widgets at all? can you not switch to the touchwiz launcher or something?
