MIUI for touchpad - TouchPad General

Since people have managed to put cm7 on touchpads, how difficult will MIUI be....assuming there is a tablet version of it.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

a bit more difficult. TBH I haven't even tried to straight port it, though I should but no time
you can try though I left alot of instructions on how to port for the hd2, should be applicable for it

Once i overcome the fear of losing my touchpad i might give it a shot, would it be easier if MIUI release their version of ics?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

Vote for MIUI in our touchpads. Link in the signature.

I'm considering doing this port but there are more moving parts than people think.

YH i can imagine but it'd be the best choice till cm9 shows up

I think another big problem is we really don't have complete access to the blocks. Really wish we could alter the acmeinstaller so we could change over ramdisk easily and partition changes. I think once full beta comes out could open the door for better opportunities.

The nook color has a port....

MIUI on the touchpad would be amazing, please keep us updated!

It would be amazing only if we had tablets tweaks like we do with CM7.
Here's a port of ICS framework with MIUI on the DroidX: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9279-ics-miui-test-1119/

I did the nook color port and was initially thinking about doing it for touchpad too when I got it, but I just never got around to it. I will do it probably for ICS when they both are out.
Its pretty easy to do, since CM7 people did all the real work.

It is possible. No one can promise it'll run at top speed though.
Normally I dont bother overclocking my device but if it would make it run faster, i would rather kill my battery in 20 minutes just for that amount of ics goodness.

I will say I like sense 3.0 however once this becomes a full functional rom in the future i'll definitely be running it. from the videos I've seen and from the stream I saw tonight ICS is gonna be sick. but in the meantime I will continue to run the warm rom

Cm9

If cm9 is on the touch pad which uses the snapdragon just as we do, and we have a ics leak why can't we have cm9 yet? I know when I had my epic 4g touch like a day after the samsung ics leak dropped someone built a cm9 rom... Please don't flame. I'm mearely asking a question in the q & a thread... Thanks!

I'm guessing it's the lack of kernel source.
But they don't have kernel source for ics on the epic 4g touch either... They built a tweaked Gingerbread kernel to run cm9. And I couldn't tell a difference it ran a amazingly

you know what devs we need here , the devs from the htc leo/hd2 that took a windows mobile phone and turned it into a development phone that could run any 5 OS like a champ, I had CM9 on my hd2 for 2 months before I got my Note and I ran AOSP ICS prior to that for a month and it's smooth as hell. We never had any kind of actual source for anything for it, actually devs were porting everything from the nexus one/nexus s/sensation/evo/incredible/desire hd and made it work , hacking all kinds of kernels , so yeah there were issues when a new port would come out like camera not working(most common issue) but never the less it always came around, now our biggest downfall is the fact that samsung decided to use two different processors with the two versions of the note, if they only would have used the same processor it would have definitely be a different ball game, it would be one forum and all the devs for the n7000 and the i717 would be working together and we would be using cm9 from the great dev imilka from the hd2 forum.
Agreed. I wish I knew how to dev. On the original evo we had great devs also... These devs just rather sit around and wait for the easy way I guess. Idk.

don't be saying things down that road lol...you'll get alot of backlash like the e3d forums.....froyo to gingerbread wasn't a huge step but it took people a very long time. Lets just wait for source to be out next month it isnt a very long time. Then since the base framework is similar, it won't take that much longer then it should. I'm more interested in the PDK feature which gives basic source codes for the hardware side of things, exciting times

Porting anything from the SDK has always been horrible, its not that easy and even if it were that isn't to say it'll be any good.
Remember those SDK ports of Honeycomb...horrendous. There's a reason nobody bothered with an SDK port of ICS for the Touchpad...there terrible.
I'm fine with just waiting until source code is ready. Unlike the switch from GB to ICS on a tablet which was huge, JB isn't really groundbreaking. It has some nice new features but after playing around in the SDK for a while I didn't really see anything that I couldn't wait a few months for.

I understand it perfectly......it is a small step yes, but in the grand scheme of things when you get an SDK port, when has it always worked perfectly?? If we're testing proof of concept here i can understand but you people want jelly bean to use straight away and to tinker with it. Devs I think have lives and if someone wanted to do it, they would've done it by now cuz its already being booted (albeit black screen) on the one x. Instead of the frustration of porting something using SDK they'd rather wait for source, because then people will start complaining that "this doesn't work, that doesn't work" so on and so forth
Anyone else think it's weird how they went back to the phone layout for the nexus 7? Will it be that way on larger tablets? I'm not a huge fan of how notifications work on my touchpad but the controls may be hard to reach if they go with a phone layout.

I'd like to mess with SDK port. If a dev would do it. The port for one x has already been updated. They are really going at it...even if they know it wont ever fully work. Maybe they are just getting head start on development.

while the current tablet ui layout is mostly functional, its not very pretty and a bit disjointed when coming from a phone version of android. it also doesnt allow manufacturers to put physical buttons on a tablet without them being redundant, and is called fragmented when compared to the ios on the iphone to ipad. it wouldnt surprise me if they went with this design as their new tablet layout. and it probably wouldnt be as bad as you think. with future cm9 or aokp customizations, youll probably be able to adjust the positions of the nav bar however you want.

I've long thought that the tablet UI for large tablets makes a lot of sense as if straddles the ground between desktop and phone quite nicely. Google aren't making the Nexus 7 UI default for these tablets either, if you emulate a touchpad withe the sdk then you get the UI we have now. On my small A100 the layout is pretty poor, and of course the resolution isn't all that great either but it's so crowded. The Nexus 7 UI works out nicely for smaller screens I think

I personally don't think jumping from CM7 to CM9 to CM10 (JB) is the right way to go about things. DZK is doing it right though IMO. He got CM7 stable enough again, IMO; To move on to CM9. He's been working hard and made what 5 Alphas and now on a Beta? (Don't know much anymore as I am on AT&T Atrix 2 now) But thats dedication and loyalty to the X2 for sure. I know he mentioned of a CM10 and JB but I as well as other and I'm pretty sure DZK mentioned, it will be awhile before it's stable enough to release. Now the Kexecis where it's at...if he can crack that, I may personally have to come and dust the X2 off as I have for the Paranoid Port and AOKP port as well as the Beta CM9. With everything else going on, again my opinion would be to keep anticipating JB and hope everything else gets worked on first to grasp stability on these great ROMs that have already been pushed out. Just my $0.02 on the Topic.

I agree with you. I think we need kexec working first. We are already running ICS on a Gingerbread kernel which isn't ideal, but it works. Running Jelly Bean on a Gingerbread kernel might be worse. But this is all in theory, obviously. Who knows, it could be super smooth. But with kexec working on the DX2, its guaranteed to work right. I really hope dragonzkiller can get it working. Especially before I upgrade to something else. It would be a shame if he got it working after everyone has moved on.
I agree I'd much rather get kexec working and have a fully functional CM9 than a half baked, unstable CM10 due to our locked bootloaders and no work-around(kexec).

Well here's to hoping that the kexec gets sorted out so we can keep up with those higher end phones.

JandyCane Port (proper Google Play Support), Fast, stable (so far) tablet mode

Hello everyone! I was here at work in the nursing home doing absolutely nothing and decided to try and port the Kindle Fire Jandycane JB 4.1 rom over to our tablet. I worked meticulously and was able to get the port to work and it seems rather stable except for our kernel limitations. I do not however get the updater script edited properly so a couple of features specific to the UI on the rom do not function but it is a nice alternative to the CM10 rom and it works fairly well. I especially like the baked in file browser and theme support! If anyone would like to add anything to make this rom better, PM me. We have a great community here and we all cant wait until the CM10 rom is as smooth as butter! I build this rom for fun and unfortunately I cannot provide any support since i dont really know what I am doing This rom is hosted on Mediafire and will only be available for thirty days as of 7/29. If a couple things get fixed such as proper mic support and location services, then maybe someone could host it on Goo-im. Thanks and I hope you like. P.S. Use Jelly Bean gapps and go check out the original authors page at xda developers kindle fire jandycane.
This is the link to the file. http://www.mediafire.com/?a3dzbc21v0tyfcd

Here are some UI pics. The rom is set to tablet mode which is the default with Jandycane. The other pic is of the baked in filebrowser. I believe this rom also has root access yea!

No, I'm talking about his next port. He said it was Android 2.3 based.
Ive been using this for over a day now, only had 2 or 3 reboots, so, love it. Well done again. Both the ics rom and other jb rom reboot too much for me for some reason.
Another problem ive noticed, is that whenever I do a nandroid of anything other than cm7, thwy always either have md5 mismatch, or they just boot loop. This rom did as well, so I'm just sticking with this for the minute!
