Phone turns on when trying to charge while off??? - Motorola Photon 4G

Ive seen this on other rooted devices ..so i try to charge the photon while completely off all it does is turn on the boot screen that says unlocked at top then boots into bootstrap recovery? ? Wtf..
Anyway around this ? I installed cwm via bootstrap phones unlocked rooted on skinny 1.3
How am i able to charge the phone via
A/c outlet without it wanting to boot into bootstrap?
I Even uninstalled bootstrap still does it.

Its because you installed bootstrap. Gp back into that app and click the charge mode button
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

not boot strap i redid the cwm via adb with the recovery.img
I redid cwm flash via command prompt adb method erased recovery and flashed recovery.img in cmd prompt no bootstrap apk on phone even and it still does the auto boot once usb is plugged in. Granted i was using bootstrap to flash cwm but i figured id give cwm a try by adb method. So i still turn the phone off plug usb in and it boots.
If i have phone on and usb in and turn it off it still reboots??

Put the bootstrap apk back on your phone and click charge mode in the app. Then delete app

[Q] cwm recovery

i recently tried flashing cwm recovery on my atrix and when i did i got a error FAILED <remote: <00180002>> .... i was unlocked but soft bricked my phone and had to flash sbf 1.2.6 will this have any effect on this error? and is it because im not unlocked anymore?
make sure when you boot up the phone it says unlocked when trying to pu the new cwm
Your bootloader needs to be unlocked, if it isn't, it won't work.
I unlocked then flashed to 1.2.6 and I thought if u unloked once your always unlocked
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
yes and no it seems that flashing partially locks just reunlock once unlocked all you have to do is reflash the sbf no need to execute the comands again
I flashed the unlock sbf again and it says unlocked and it sucessfully put cwm recovery on my phone but I can't bott in cwm recover mode anybody no the problem?

Out of curiosity, are you using tenfar's custom CWM, or are you installing it from within the ROM Manager app? ROM Manager's CWM isn't fully working yet, so try tenfar's instead if you aren't using it already. Tell us how it goes.
I am using the one that came with kennethpenns 2.3.4

I'm not really sure which one you mean; did you not use CWM to install Kenneth's 2.3.4? Did his distribution come with a CWM .img file? I haven't used it myself.
Anyways, starting from scratch, if your bootloader's unlocked, all you need to do is go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541
And download this file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=641508&d=1309404399
Then download fastboot for Windows if you don't already have it:
http://diamantephoto.com/fastboot.rar
Extract all the files into one folder. I just used my Windows drive root (c:\) to make the commands easier to type.
Then open a command prompt (Start -> type "cmd" in the run box). Type the command "cd (whatever directory you stuck the files in)". In my case, I type "cd c:\".
Once the directory is properly selected, ensure your atrix is connected via USB, power it on while holding the down button, and once you see "fastboot" selected on the screen, press the up button, at which point you will see that the phone's ready to receive commands from the fastboot utility.
Back in the command prompt, type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-en-goapk-0630-1029.img". After several seconds you should see confirmation of success. Once that's done, you can tell fastboot to reboot the phone with "fastboot reboot", or you can reboot it manually, once again holding the down button. Then, once "fastboot" appears again, press the down button seven more times to select Android Recovery, then press the up button. Voila, tenfar's CWM with blue text should have loaded up.
I apologize if I was unnecessarily verbose, but I wanted to be as specific as possible.
Thnks I will try
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i did all that and the only thing that came up was the android guy with an !
So fastboot did report that it had successfully flashed the recovery file? If it didn't properly boot into CWM after that, I'm not sure what to tell you... Come to think of it, I imagine you'll have to have at least 1.8.3 for CWM to work properly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
Get the SBF from there, and then try flashing CWM again after that.
It said "finished" and im already on 1.8.3
Figured it out

I'm curious to know how you did it after all of the complications. Glad to hear that you got it.

how did you get it to work because i keep getting the little andriod with the !too.
restore fail
every backup i choose in cwm gives the error. it says restoring system ....... then error while formatting /data.
i tried wiping cache, data and dalvik but still no go.
any ideas?
cwm v4.0.1.4
As soon as you flash recovery reboot you need to immediately put in recovery you can't boot up and them do it...... I hope this helped

hey michaelatrix.
i think i understand. i moto-fastbooted an old version of cmw but then downloaded the latest verion from rom manager and it installed it.
so i will reflash to the old version and try it.

U have to have the most recent cwm to work

Root wirelessly because I've lost my cwm recovery

Can I root wirelessesly? I ask because my phone is fc ing on a lot of apps and after I flashed this last rom I lost my recovery...? It wont let me boot into recovery to flash a backup so I was hoping to root , install rom manager, and flash cwm recovery and do a full wipe restore.
If there are any other suggestions im all ears because im out of town until Friday morning and can't install anything on my work cpu or I would install fastboot etc.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
you shouldn't have to install anything on the computer, you would only need to download the files
What files exactly and how do I install it without being able to enter android recovery ?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Can you getvin fastboot? If so, do command
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
That should do the trick
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I can get into fastboot on the phone but how do I get fastboot on the cpu without installing it, or am I missing something?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just download adb with fastboot from google if you don't already have it, restart your phone into fastboot, open cmd prompt from computer and follow commands to install romracers recovery in his thread under development. This only works if your unlocked btw. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500

Make a live Linux CD/flash drive and boot to that if it allows you to. Then try the Linux versions of adb/fastboot.
Speedily sent from CM7 Beta
I'll see if I can figure that out because Im not up to date on linux and how it works... As the days go my system seems to be getting worse.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
So I have tried everything to no avail. It seems like the phone is getting worse day by day...
I wish I could root from the phone not tethered some how so that I could install rom mgr and flash cwm recovery and access my backups, or be able to fastboot somehow, or find some way to install a recovery without tethering to access my backups!!
Im worried my phone will explode over night...lol
I don't understand how you lost your recovery without root... and you would have to be unlocked to write to the recovery partition, yes?
Find a windows computer that you have admin rights too, download the Motorola Drivers and Fastboot.
Presuming you are unlocked:
Boot your phone to Fastboot mode by Powering off the device; pressing the power button and depress hold the down volume key until a little words say RSD something; then use the down volume key to navigate to Fastboot; then press the up volume key.
Then connect the device do the computer and reference this thread to install a new CWM recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
This last time I flashed, something must have been left inside the phone that the current rom did not like.
The rom itself is supposed to be rooted and unlocked the phone itself is still unlocked, but superuser permissions won't be granted to any application and when I try to enter android recovery it seems like it's going to work but all it does is boot the phone back up without the radio working.
I have ben trying to find a cpu for 3 days now so I can do just that. I'll be home tomorrow and should be all good.

How to boot into recovery?

I currently pull the battery, then turn on volume down and power to go to bootloader and then enter into the recovery. I would like to know if this is the correct way, or if there is another method to enter the recovery. Thanks
Sent from my Amaze running Amazing QuickSense 1.5.1 using XDA app
Other than flashing a ROM with an extended menu ( instead of power off and reboot only reboot has several options reboot, hot reboot, reboot into bootloader and, reboot into recovery) the other option would be to download ROM MANAGER but that would only work if you are using CWM and have flashed it via Rom Manager.... otherwise the way you are doing it is fine
It's a tablet dammit! Not a BIG phone....
adb reboot recovery from command or terminal assuming you have the adb.exe in your system32 directory.

Should not have to pull the battery - just turn it off.
If you want it easier (not connected to computer, etc.), you can install ROM Manager, flash recovery their with it, and then I recommend reflashing xBoarders 5.0.2.0 again.
ROM Manager should still work (mine does), but when you enter Recovery from there, you have the other 5.0.2.0 Recovery (RM 5.0.2.6 will not charge when off).
On a related note--do we need to keep fastboot enabled?
Or use quick boot

No fastboot ADB only in recovery

Ive been stuck in bootloop and since i installed stock pg86img. I have no more revolutionary/fastboot then only way i can connect to pc is adb while in recovery. But if i run revolutionary from recovery it says my hboot is not supported. If i reboot phone it will recognize device but it bootloops before revoltionary can zerge root. Ive been getting alot of help here but nothing will boot. Someone please tell me how i can get clockwork on via pg86img so i can try to format or remount the boot partition. When i run virus superwipe it says boot partition unmounted already. Is there any way to get my phone working with adb commands or someone that can tell me how to get fastboot to work. Thanks i need my phone back its been two days now.

The best way to use fastboot is to boot into the white bootloader screen (vol down + power), select fastboot, and connect the USB cable.
Depending on what type of "boot loop" you're experiencing, adb might be loading. If the device loops on the boot animation, adb should be loaded. If the device reboots while on the splash screen, adb more than likely hasn't loaded yet as this is still at the kernel/ramdisk portion fo the boot process.
Hope that helps!

I'm curious.. so you flashed a stock rom (which obviously would get rid of your root and put stock recovery back on your phone), and your phone wouldnt boot as if it came from factory? What is your hboot?
The phone will still hboot but fastboot doesn't work nor does adb while in bootloader or fastboot. I can get adb to connect while in recovery. But revolutionary won't run there it says it doesn't recognize hboot sbin/sh. And when I reboot revolutionary willbsee the phone but it bootloops before it can run.

What hboot are you on? Explain what you mean by fastboot doesnt work. When you power on phone holding volume down button, are you able to select fastboot and plug in your phone so that it shows fastboot-usb?
adb isnt supposed to work while you are in the bootloader.
What is your HBOOT Version? You should still have S-OFF right? If Yes, then all u need to do is take out your microsd card and put it in your computer then load either CMW or TWRP recovery (download a flashable from their website, should be name to PG86IMG.zip). Then stick your sd back to your phone and let hboot install the recovery for you. From there you can restore or install a new ROM.
You must install a couprted file or something.. even though i believe you should still be S-OFF. IF You're S-ON then the only way you can flash a coustom recovery is through fasboot, well depends on your HBOOT.
I've already installed twrp. And tried flashing a few different roms kernels suoerwipes nothing helps. I can't find a versikn on cwm that I can rename of86img and flash I would like to try that so i can mount the boot partition and wipe it. Cause when I run virus superwipe(example) it says boot partition unmounted already so its not wiping that and my guess is that's what's been corrupted.

You could take out your sd card and like the last post said you can access recovery thru adb or fastboot.. I think its
Adb reboot recovery
Fastboot reboot recovery
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Fastboot reboot will reboot into the system, adb reboot recovery will reboot into the recovery but I believe will only work if the phone previously had USB debugging enabled and its halfway turned on (splash screen?).

If you can remove the sd card and manage to get into fastboot then I suggest flashing twrp as boot instead of recovery. It should reboot into recovery allowing you to flash a Rom. The kernel will replace twrp and boot to android

Why flash TWRP as boot instead of recovery ?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Well if the power button isn't working properly and there is no usable rom, the user might be able to power the phone but be unable to access recovery from bootloader. Flashing twrp as a kernel will load twrp upon reboot eliminating the need to select it from bootloader and allow user to flash a new Rom normally. Easier then repeatedly stabbing the power button and causing more unnecessary wear on an already damaged button
