I recently Bought my S5830. It Originally came from a carrier named IMMEX, which is a small startup wireless provider in Pennsylvania, USA.
It was unlocked, and worked well with my At&t SIM card. It originally had 2.2.1 on it, and unfortunately that is all I remember.
I wanted to overclock it and long story short, I flashed as many roms as I could in a 24 hour period without backing up my original Firmware.
I am currently using gingerreal, and it works better than any other firmware I have found., I get a quadrant score of 1950 and I'm happy with that, except there are a lot of bugs. Wifi barely works, I can't install any apps without the phone rebooting, and I can't connect to HDSPA.
I checked at Samfirmware, but they have no usa region firmwares that I could find. I can only assume that this phone never had a major release in the USA.
Does this mean that I am screwed, or is there a firmware that is similar enough to my region that i can restore full functionality to my device?
Also; I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum. The general Forum description says for Q&A, but the tick box below this text frame tells me I am breaking forum rules by posting this here.
i think why don't you flash European or asian firmwares ?? if you want stock then you can use them there is really no difference ... just some are more stable
Well, that is a simple fix. Thank you VERY much. Downloading now, as soon as hotfile will let me, I'll update the thread with the results.
Hey, I tried several different firmwares from asia and europe, and I still have connectivity issues, with both Wifi and 3g. With any of these, I can't make outgoing calls either.
Any new Ideas?
try flash different modem and see any of them solve ur problem. see thread in development subforum

Hi guys,
My flatmate has a xPeria x10a, and it was originally the 1.6 3mobile rom. I've installed the generic 2.1 ROM and fixed the APN settings. There are a few bugs like photos that can't be read and it thinks the SD card is full.
My flatmate wants to return the unit, I just want to make sure I put it back to stock so as to avoid any warranty concerns. I've had a look through the decrypted ROM thread -(which is huge so I didn't read it all) and had some searches, but I couldn't find the 3 mobile specific one.
When reading through the forums it's sometimes difficult to get a picture of how these systems/processes work. There's the 1.6 Nordic rom, but I don't understand where the carrier specific branding is applied through that process(I'm assuming it isn't). Does that mean I need a decrypted 3 mobile australia rom, and has one been posted by anyone?
I'm not worried if it's 1.6 or 2.1, just so long as it's 3 mobile australia. The other thing I wasn't sure about was if I use the PC companion to repair/update it, will it be the three mobile one?
Thanks in advance, I just want to make sure there aren't any issues when she takes it back to the store, as returning phones can be a major hassle.

Option 1 is to change the CDA to 1234-4828 and then use SEUS to flash it - see this thread for how
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824711
Option 2 is to flash it with the decrypted firmware using flashtool (loads of threads with links for it) but you have to get hold of a copy of the firmware to do that. I have had a quick search but can't find it.
I have a new unbranded Samsung Galaxy S2 from Carphone Warehouse on Orange.
Baseband: I9100XXLPS
Kernel: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7
Build No: IML74K.XWLP7
It came with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and I loved it. Having plugged it into Kies for the first time and accepted the software update it is now on ICS 4.0.3. I like absolutely nothing about this version and have tried to roll back to GB 2.3.4 using Odin and the link to my version of CPW firmware from skywanker.net. I was under the impression because the phone came with 2.3.4, the flash would roll back to this but it hasn’t. It is still on 4.0.3. and having now found my way to the new list of firmware on Android.firmwares.net I can see that it lists this download as 4.0.3.
Can someone please tell me how I can find a GB 2.3.4 suitable for my CPW XXLPS phone so I can roll back to the stock version it came with?
It is not rooted. I don’t want to root it I just want it as it was out the box and still under warranty!
Please help. I have spent literally days and days trying to find this answer after having plucked up the courage to flash my phone with Odin and I am so disappointed that all I’ve done it put 4.0.3 back on it!
I have spoken to CPW, Orange, Samsung and CPWs Geek Squad and come up blank!
Thank you ;o)
Tried samfirmware.com ?
Thanks for such a quick reply B3311. I've looked up the firmware for my PDA at samfirmware and it is also showing as ICS 4.0.3. This is what I find so confusing. My phone shipped with GB 2.3.4 so why can't I find that anywhere to download and roll back?! Any other suggestions?
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150009521/71118c0/I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_XEU.zip.html
you could try this one. official 2.3.4 filed under europe, united kingdom/ireland.
or this one europe, open europe official 2.3.4 firmware
http://hotfile.com/dl/145783246/da10e07/I9100XXKH1.zip.html
Search again at sammobile, you will find the 2.3.4, if you can't search, no one can help.
Hint: Look in Europe
Don't forget to wipe
Before and after flashing.
Look at 2.3.6 aswell if you want.

Will these downloads be compatible with my phone and if I load them would they void the warranty? If anything goes wrong could I just load the 4.0.3 again via Odin? Sorry for so many questions but I have no experience of this sort of thing. I don't even download apps to use - I just like the standard stock function of the phone - or rather I did before ICS!
yeah i understand what you mean ics is pritty buggy and not as good as gb yeah they should work just fine like anything to do with flashing tho its not 100% safe. just download and flash away but take your time
Flashing stock, unrooted firmware will not void your warranty.
May be worth knowing that 2.3.4 is an older version of GB. 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 are newer, and "better" (IMO).
I'm on 2.3.6, and have no intention of moving (I will not call it "upgrading") to ICS until I get the SGS3 next month.

it depends you flash the same FW, if your dealer finds the firmware version on the phone is not the same when it was supplied , they may deney waranty...so its upto you to find the exact version and flash...
wrong....if some thing went really wrong and gone to unrecoverable stage you cant load 4.0.3 back
Normally there is nothing going wrong if you have followed the steps correctly and carefully....

All I've been doing for the last 7 days is searching, searching, searching. I can assure you I have tried to sort this problem out before posting here so please don't suggest that I can't search! Just because my level of expertise in all this is zero - doesn't mean I'm not tyring to learn and help myself!
I am not one to customise the phone so I am very wary of what I am doing to it. I am trying to ensure that I don't make matters worse for myself. I had searched samfirmware according to the criteria of my phone that they requested and it returned only the 4.0.3 option.
I have now found the list for older firmware and can see that there are some 2.3.X under Europe, but my next question is - how safe is this to use with my phone. I was under the impression from the XDA guidelines for flashing with Odin that you should only use firmware that is compatible with your own PDA, Phone and CSC. Will it void the warranty if I put something for Europe on there or cause issues with the function of the phone?
Also - I'm afriad I don't know what you mean by "wipe" the phone. Do you mean do a factory reset?
Go here and find GB Version you wanted.

Thanks for everyone's input so quickly!
I've had a good look at the list on Samfirmware and I'm guessing my best option is to try the one for GB 2.3.6 for UK (Orange). I will give it a go.... watch this space!

That link provides a very comprehensive list of firmware for my version of phone, but still not the GB 2.3.4 it was shipped with! This is exactly why I'm so confused; I just find it so odd that there is no way to find the orignal firmware for this PDA. Does anyone know if this a common thing with Samsung phones and firmware?

I keep kicking myself for allowing the update to run! I'm just not up to speed with smartphone tech I'm afraid, but I never allow major updates onto my computer until they've been around a while and all the bugs fixed which is why I am so angry with myself for not being clued up on ICS!
If I'd known about the ICS changes, I'd have stuck with GB for the cute android emoticons in SMS alone ICS has really mucked up my phone and the way I use it. I have no idea what possessed them to release firmware that has removed such useful basic functionality from so many everyday things. And as for the signal and battery problems - that's a rant for other existing threads!!!
I had an intereseting convesation with Samsung Tech though - it seems they are very aware just how buggy ICS is and the issues it's causing as they told me I'd have to send my phone back for a hardware repair if the battery life didn't improve. If this rollback doesn't work I can only hope they release a fix very quickly.
The GB 2.3.6 is slowly downloading so hopefully I’ll be able to give it a go later today. Doesn’t help that I live in the middle of the Fens in Huntingdonshire so am surrounded by beautiful country but only 2mb broadband. AGH!!! Some days I really miss cable
Disaster! Got GB 2.3.6 OK - but it's all "orangified"! Should have realised that but thought because I'm on orange that would be the right one. So now I'm downloading the 2.3.4 for UK / Ireland as orignally suggested by jonnyhall1bmx1. I'm hoping this one will be totally open and not linked to any carrier.
See what happens when I let my brain get involved!!!

since your phone is already unbranded, no need to be on a carrier ROM, search for XWLA2 or XWLA4 which is the latest versions of 2.3.6, may be released for some country name (italy ) doesnt matter...
Good for you that you search, I don't intend to make fun or insult, just that search function works and it's better to get some knowledge before hand instead of relying 100 percent on others.
Now, yes flashing using Odin is safe, as you have experienced now. La2 is the best I found and I always go back to it when required.
Yes wipe means to clean data cache.
Wiping do erase your stored files on internal storage. So remember this.
Always good to do this after and before every flash.
Dial code to wipe *2767*3855#

(a newbie)
Well I'm absolutely delighted to report that the last firmware flash has done the trick. I'm back onto GB 2.3.4 and all the functionality that I liked is back and the battery and signal strength already improved. What a huge relief! Thanks to everyone who posted here to help me. This is a great forum and it has encouraged me to be more confident with my phone and its functionality in the future.
I sincerely hope this thread will help others out there to rollback from ICS if they have the same issues I did. Ciao for now folks.
Hi,
I would like to thanks to all contributors to this thread.
I also want to rollback to 2.3.6 from 4.0.3 and I own an orange branded galaxy s2.
I've found the necessary firmware from sites posted here (I9100BVKL1_I9100OROKL1_I9100BVKL1_HOME.tar.md5).
Also, I've understood that I need only Odin for this operation.
I would like to have just a confirmation from you guys, if the method mentioned here works in the same way on branded galaxies (orange specifically).
Thank you,
Is this easy enough to do. Got the chance of buying one at £400 but would need to unlock it and preferably have it unbranded.
Is the unlocking part something I could do myself or would I need to take it to a vendor and how much would it cost?
Thanks.
The 3 phones are unlocked already
It costs £10 on ebay for an unlock code
Easy enough to un brand by flashing a stock firmware .
But i would wait until i had a copy of my original firmware first in case of claiming on 3 warranty .

As the man said three are unlocked, so just flash a stock samsung rom and it will be unbranded

Mine is on Three and unlocked/unbranded (although I did get it via Carphone Warehouse) so your mileage may vary.
R.
I had a 3 UK phone, I got it since the launch, as I had it pre-ordered, and it arrived locked, however I used the Voodoo SGS III Unlock Tool and it worked brilliantly, it is free to download and it unlocks it almost instantly, however ROOT is required.
For the information of anyone reading this thread, in branding is as simple as flashing a generic official rom from your country via Odin, takes 5 minutes.
Unlocking is done via the methods shown here in the forum and is free, again, takes 5 to 10 minutes.
To undo the changes, flash back to the carrier ROM you had originally, and I wouldn't worry about undoing the unlock.

Could anybody with a more in-depth knowledge care to offer a bit more info on this?
I currently have an O2 branded S3.
I have rooted this (when I first got it) and that went fine (Odin, I think was the method I used).
If I wanted to flash a basic unbranded image on this, would I use the very first post from this thread, labelled "I9300XXBLFB"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610 (If not, could somebody point me towards the correct file please?)
Then, If I ever needed to put an O2 image back onto it, (maybe for warranty purposes) could somebody point out where I would find the O2 branded one, as I can only see an Orange branded one in the following post?
Also, is there actually much risk involved in the flashing, or would I be really unlucky for anything to go wrong?
(P.S. I've seen the thread about how to change the handset back to make it seem that it's never been flashed/modified, so I realise I'd need to do more than just flash the O2 image back onto it. Hopefully, I'd never need to anyway).

1st of all dial *#1234# into the dialer this will give you the current firmware version(im assuming your still on o2 firmware and havent changed it yet) then go to here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1#regiona
this is s3 firmware version for europe and find the firmware that matches the 02 version your on. This is your fallback incase you need to warranty repair the phone or you maybe have a flash problem with unbranded at least you have the o2 to fallback on.
Ill assume its more than likely this one
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=4650
and heres the dl link for it
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/157417303/f25aa83/I9300XXALE8_I9300O2UALE5_O2U.zip.html
Then as youve already mentioned flash the LFB version, here ya go dl link
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162402398/abc9bdb/I9300XXBLFB_I9300OXABLFB_BTU.zip.html
Now if you want any other versions of official firmware you will need to join sammobile to be able to dl them
Thanks very much for the reply.
A couple of issues having taken a look at those links.
The first link doesn't seem to have my firmware listed - some are close, but none the same.
Mine shows: AP: I9300XXALEF, CP: I9300BWLE6, CSC: I9300O2UIALE7
Would an alternative work if I ever needed to flash back? (maybe the one you've linked in the 2nd link?
And, finally, to confirm - the last link - "LFB" (not sure what that means) - is that the unbranded rom that I'd be looking for?
Many thanks for the advice.

Have your tried updating through kies 1st? As far as im aware you will still get o2 updates through it. I noticed my phone out the box(unbranded) didnt have firmware matching this list either but after a kies update I was on firmware more well known for the region and was on the list.
Yes the LFB is the latest unbranded firmware.
edit:- doing a bit of research it seems o2 branded phones are running the LE8/LE5/LE5 software so i think your missing an official update.
I've not really used Kies as yet. I'm running Mountain Lion on my iMac, & Kies won't install on that.
I can always use my lappy at work tomorrow to look into it.
If I was going to change to the unbranded firmware, I assume there's not really any point in using Kies to update the official O2 version on here at the moment?

not really but nothings 100% guaranteed, so its always good to have backup plans in place just in case.
Not sure what backup plan I could have in place for me bricking the phone
Thanks for all your help. I'll look into it more tomorrow
Kies is, as you say available for Mac, but won't yet run on Mountain Lion. I'm assuming they'll update it soon.
You were right, Kies did update my O2 branded handset to the latest FW, which does show on SamMobile's site.
Phones from the three network are locked, carphone warehouse phones are unlocked as they're from the suplier.
Theres a tool called voodoo i beleive it's used for unlocking the sim on samsung phones, you should give that a whirl.
It's available on the market.

Hi guys, need a working link for 2.3.5 gingerbread uk stock rom I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_VOD.zip
or 2.3.5 on o2 or unbranded uk stock 2.3.5
I need to repair my imei/efs folder with a Z3X box, and the firmware needs to be on 2.3.5, and no i have no backup of the efs folder.
tried sammobile and android firmwares but no luck
thanks.
If Samfirmware, AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com don't have what you want, you're SOOL.
You won't find it anywhere else, the chances of someone reading this who coincidentally has a copy handy these days is zero given how few people read/post here - there's a fair chance you'll be sitting there in a month & probably won't even get another reply to this thread (and the reason for that is as above; those 3 places are the only places you're going to source a 3 yr old firmware for a 3yr old phone).
Besides, why do you think need that particular firmware ? I'm not seeing why you can't use any other firmware for your country/carrier. If I were in your situation, I'd be investigating that one, otherwise you probably won't be fixing it.
Its whats recommended on gsmforum in the z3x repair guide forum.
Thanks.

I'd be checking the date of whatever you're reading. Are you sure it's not dated around the time this phone was released ? If it is, that would explain why that firmware is recommended (may well have been the only firmware available at the time).
Essentially, firmware is firmware, the differences between them are minimal - only differences are the modems, and carrier-specific 'crapware'. The kernels are sometimes a little different depending on date of release (maybe different Linux kernel version), but the main differences happen when you're talking about roms with different Android versions (GB-ICS-JB). Even then, I'm not seeing why you need a specific firmware for an EFS repair/IMEI re-write.
Up to you what you do, but as I said, expect to still be looking for this firmware weeks from now if you insist you need that & only that one.
Used 123unlock to repair imei,
tried with 4.1.2 firmware, didn't work managed to find an o2 2.3.5 gingerbread firmware and it worked first time imei now repaired.
Check out 123unlock if you get stuck with no imei and no efs backup, it worked for me, but it cost me €21 to use their online repair server.
Hi,
I bought a G850EMW from China to work in the UK. It has Android 10 and works perfectly. However I would like to update to Android 12. I have seen guides for this involving downloading a Rom from LGRom.com.
My current phone is running "V20a-LAO-COM". LAO seems to be hard to find information about, and there are no LAO roms on the site. I saw on one forum a reference to "Latin Amercian Region".
My question is can I go ahead and flash my phone with a Rom from say Germany (DEU) or will this cause a problem (is this a "cross-flash") as I'm supposed to find a compatible "LAO" region firmware? I don't want to brick my phone, but I would like the latest security updates, battery improvements, etc.
Thank you.
