So one of the things I was looking forward to most after rooting the Nook Tablet was that the button savior buttons (back, menu, search) would work. I even saw a video where a guy had them working.
But I have this issue, where they only work the very first time I use them after each boot. The superuser app has the "allow" rule for button savior, and the first time I use the back button after a reboot I do see the toast popup stating that button savoir was granted permission. However, after the first time, I get nothing. The functions don't work and there are no entries in the button savoir log.
FWIW - I did not factory reset before rooting...
Anyone else see this issue?
I was just getting ready to post the same thing. Mine worked well for a while, but after a reboot i have the same issue as you.

I believe that for some reason Button Savior requires 'USB Debugging' to be selected. When you reboot, this gets un-selected. Try selecting USB Debugging in the Development settings and see if Button Savior starts working again.
Kind of a pain...you will need to reset the USB Debugging option every time you reboot the tablet.
Good call! I forgot about the USB debugging issue.
Odd. Today it behaves differently. After boot it asks me to turn on USB debugging, which I allow...and now it works! I still don't understand why the behavior changed, it didn't ask before, but I'm not complaining.
Correct. As stated, the NT resets its USB debugging option with each reboot.
Always remember to go back into the menu to reset the USB debugging options after a reboot and you'll be good to go.

I've verified USB debugging is reset after fresh boot, but Button Savior still quits working. I've tried an older apk I've had for awhile and the current market version, both fail similarly.
Does anybody have Button Savior working continuously, or is there an alternative app that does same function?
If I disable automount and enable usb debugging right after boot, without using button savior until afterwards, I have access to all the keys continuously. Kind of a pain in the ass.

My button savior works without any issues. I am rooted. The only keys I ever use are search, menu, home, and the hide button Savior

+1, have not had any issues, been installed for about a week.
Ive been using button savior since Nov. 16th and have had no issues out of it. Using the newest .apk from the market.
Try uninstalling it completely, reboot, enable usb debugging, then insall it again. <- This has worked for me on other android devices when I was having issues with an app.

Is there a way to disable the hardware buttons (home, search, back, menu) on the gtab? I find myself hitting them when I don't want to.

Button remapper app.
In fact, here it is.
Thanks for the link, goodintentions. It installed and opens up great.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to use this app to actually disable the hardware buttons on the Gtab. I'm running Vegan b5.1 (with supplement) and Clymsyn's kernel v6.
I've tried setting their state to 'none' and that didn't work... also tried searching the 'action' dropdown for a 'disable' or 'none' entry, but couldn't find one.
Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.
You dont need to change the states, only the actions. Set it to Focus for all the home/search/back/menu you see. If you mess something up, it should allow you to restore the keys after you reboot

Button remapper works great when pared with button Savior. It gives you a placable tab that when touched brings up back, home, menu and search buttons. Really handy.
Oh and I remapped my gtabs buttons to be a dpad. It really helps when selecting links online.
Disable hardware buttons
Hi all, I downloaded the app, installed and set buttons to focus.
No joy, none at all.
Using Honeycomb, could this be the issue?
Or, does anyone know any other solution?

can you tell me which file should I edit to do this?
How do I set a button mapping to "None"? My "back" button is faulty, i want to turn it off completely. Is there a way?
I rooted my NT using Indirect's method well over a year ago and installed the OTA blocker and am at version 9.9.9. I was using Button Savior to let me choose between stock and ADW Launcher. However, my boy was using the NT and somehow he changed the function of the "Home button" of the Button Savior and the window letting you choose does not come up when you press it. I can get to the Button Savior "buttons", but they don't do anything. Now I can't remember for the life of me how I can get to the ADW Launcher root and am stuck in the stock screens. Anyone know how to solve this problem? It's probably really easy, but it's been too long since I did the initial root for me to remember.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember you could use the stock search tool to start typing in an app's name (e.g., "ADW,") and it would pop up as a result. Once in there, you should be able to muddle around with the default actions, or re-enable button savior. Hope this helps!

That was it! Then, I had to go back to the default settings on Go Launcher and then the choice between home screens was asked again and button savior started working. Thanks!
Hi,
On the Galaxy S4 you should be able to press the soft menu key on the left side of the home button in the settings menu to make the settings 1 long list like the Galaxy Note 3. Now I did this on a friends model which was unrooted, locked, and standard software and it worked fine. On mine which is rooted, unlocked, LOKI'd etc, running a custom rom I tried doing the same thing and it doesn't work. Is there a link to any mod I can use to enable that feature because I like the longer one menu instead of the 4 tab menu on the GS4?
Any response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!

I just tried that on mine (ME7 stock rooted) and it didn't work so maybe if your friend has a different carrier version it has this feature? Well, since you're on a custom rom I guess that doesn't matter, I would suggest Paranoid Android because they have all sorts of options for tablet modes, etc so I'm sure that'll get you what you want.
That feature is still there as I use it as a long list instead of tabbed out. I'm completely stock and have always had that option available

But maybe thats why.. because your completely stock so maybe it is taken out on the roms but works on completely stock? Does anyone know of a mod to flash to enable this setting?

omg i didn't even know about this feature! much better than the tabbed settings layout. thanks!

To go into settings, tap on the "menu" key to the left of the home button, then select "Settings".
Now tap the menu key again. It will pop up a "Switch to list view" message. Tap that to change to list view.
Tap on the menu again and "Switch to tab view" to flip back.
You don't hold the menu button down.

Yeah I tried that and still nothing. I hit the menu key in Settings and it doesn't do anything. Strange. Must have been one of my modifications that broke it somehow. I have Wifi notification gone, e911 gone, volume boost, and international dialer. One of those must of somehow broke it. Thanks anyway
So no luck finding a mod to enable it?

I don't know why 4.2 didn't have an option to reboot the device, i am pretty used to having this option on my phones i have had for the last 2 or 3 of them and was hoping this 4.3 update would finally give the option on this tablet.
i can't understand why it wouldn't be there as it's a bit of a pain when you do want to restart it.
can anyone let me know.
thanks

Probably not.
Root your tablet, install xposed framework and install advanced power menu module.
Enable the module, reboot et voila...problem solved.
Happy holidays.

Don't forgot we're on XDA, some bright dev will figure it out soon enough.
They always do.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588442
Like I said before, they always do!
So, to answer your question:
1. follow the steps in the link posted above.
2. Install Xposed framework http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
3. Install Advanced power menu module
4. PROFIT!
Enjoy!
You can also install Xposed module GravityBox instead.
Besides the power menu, it gives many more options, and together with the module Xperia Flip Settings the status bar can be modified to look and behave nearly like AOSP.
Also GravityBox has the option to use Expanded Desktop, i.e. hide the navigation bar.

Jep, Gravitybox is an excellent module but since the OP was only asking for an advanced power menu I figured to just point him to that direction.
But indeed, tons more functionality in gravitybox.
Actually u can do the following hot key combination without root: hold volume up + power button wthis will restart any Android device in the world or if u have root install advanced menu from xposed

That forces the device to shut down. It is like pressing and holding the power button on a PC. The device doesn't do all the processes needed for a safe shutdown. So, yeah, just use that in case the device is stuck.
Good evening everyone.
Here is my story : my power button was hyper sensitive and locked/unlocked/rebooted my SGS3 by itself, sometimes even when I didn't touch it. I could not use my phone anymore, so I searched for a way to fix it, and I found out that it was a hardware problem. I carefully opened my phone and physically removed the power switch. To turn my phone on, I had to plug a charger/usb cable in, plug it out and immediately pull my battery out and in.
It worked pretty much, and I then decided to reinstall the previous version of Cyanogenmod 11 which I preferred. I don't know why but something went wrong during the installation, and now I can't go further than the unlock screen. Whenever I unlock my phone, a box saying "Launcher 3 has stopped working" shows up, and reappears right after I close it. I can't access to the homescreen, the notification bar is empty and I can't access to my phone parameters. The only thing I can do is opening my agenda or the clock app by clicking the date or the hour (only things in my status bar).
Also, my phone reboots when it connects to some wifi.
I can't hard reset my S3 because I can't access to my parameters, nor to the phone app (emergency call doesn't allow me to reset the dial way). I can't reboot in recovery or download mode because I don't have a power button anymore. ADB tools don't detect my phone (I installed the SGS3 drivers on my pc), and my computer only detects an empty phone.
The warranty is over so I can't just send it to Samsung.
Is there a way to reset my Galaxy S3 or just boot it in recovery or download mode so I can install a clean ROM via CWM or Odin ?
Thank you for your time,
Betatestgw

Thank you for your anwser, but I found a way to fix it !
I opened the clock by long pressing the hour in my status bar. Then I long pressed my home button, so the recently opened app appeared. I long pressed the clock app in this list, then chose "informations about this application". It led me to the clock app's settings. At the top of this page I was able to press back button to see all my apps.I displayed all the processes, then closed all of them (but settings), especially Launcher 3. After that I was able to access to my home page, so I could go to my settings to hard reset my phone !
Finally, I reinstalled CM11 and now it works like a charm.
I know this is a very specific situation but I hope this little trick will one day be useful to someone.

Or in the future you try this. With volume down and home pressed plug cable and after that the battery. For me is worked.
