I was playing with anycut a shortcut creation app and found a shortcut for a debug keyboard. It has four diffrent color screens. It also has a debug option with voice search. I haven't got that working yet. I m currently using the stone them much darker.
Can you post a screenshot? This sounds pretty awesome
Here are the pics of stone keyboard and keboard debug. UPDATE. After entering debug mode, I went to assiablity setting menu and found I could switch keyboards. I I'm now running swift keyboard.
I found the debug keyboards, and the acessibility menu with the input options. How did you enable swift keyboard? I have installed plus a couple other keyboards and i cant enable them so they are a option in the input methods.

It does change the themes however I was able to get Swift Keyboard installed. I can switch between SK and android keyboard. The problem is I can't duplicate the results leaving it difficult to instruct others in the process. Sorry

How about giving us a general idea? We won't beat you up too bad if it's incomplete or doesn't work. Perhaps someone else will take your starting point and flesh it out.
Thanks!
yah, just instruction on how to get the menu open would help. no worries if we can't reproduce. it would just give us a starting point

I figured it out.
1. Install anycut: http://li362-167.members.linode.com/gapps/non_google/com.appdroid.anycut.apk
2. Open Anycut, Create a New Shortcut.
3. Pick "Activity"
4. Pick "Android Keyboard Debug"
5. Success!

Did you install your keyboard in any specific way? I suspect just downloading an APK is not going to work here.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Never mind, i have a complete procedure now. I have installed hacker keyboard! I will post it in a new thread in a little while.
Nice. I was able to change the theme. But in the accessibility menu, I only had one selection: android keyboard, even though I have thumb keyboard and swift keyboard installed.

I installed from google market i own SK I also opened it after installation went through the settings. I think I got a force close error i rebooted looked for the keyboard in the device setting. It wasnt there, So I just left it alone. A couple days later after doing a ton of stuff to the nook I found that installing kb's creates a hidden debug menu. I messed with some themes and enabled debug menu. Then I was just looking at the device menu, accessibility menu and checked input methods and there was swift keyboard. Sorry I had given up on installing an after market kb. I did it by accident. I also should mention I am rooted. I. have tried this with other keyboards with no luck.

Check the box that says "version 2.3.4". That puts it in debug mode.
When you go into accessibility, hit "cancel" on the prompt. Then hit "input method". If you did everything right, your keyboard will be selectable there.

So...here we go. List items that are bugging you...and hopefully people will have a fix.
1) Problem: Only top button wakes.
2) Some people report camera button does not open Camera app.
3) Language bar still present when using hard qwerty.

1) Everything can wake up except menu button.
2) Camera button is now activated by a 3 second press
3) Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Untick Default Input Settings
Hope this helped =)
My camera button wont open up cam app. Hold for 10 sec now

For the annoying language bar, you can opt for a better option. Use swiftkey or Smart keyboard and it will replaced the language bar with text prediction box. A lot more useful.
For me the most annoying thing is the blue theme that has got even worse and still can't be changed!!!
Other than that I'm pretty happy with the update. I might not say that in a few weeks once I've tried everything but for now I'm happy.

Cheers I can confirm this works
I've gone with anysoftkeyboard which is free and doesnt put anything on your screen.
In the 1.6 version of gmail - you could press shift+s and then select the text you wanted to copy into the clipboard.
Now that 2.1 has been released pressing shift+s just makes a cursor appear, which is fine if the x10 mini/pro had a trackball but it doesn't.
Does anyone know how to copy and paste in 2.1 gmail?
EDIT (2010,11,10) - Found Solution:
If you press and hold the shift button while selecting your text on the screen it copies to the clipboard just fine
(obviously this is only a solution if you have a mini pro)

Actually, after a bit of searching i've found the solution to this.

I will update my original post.
one annoyance would be that I have to use Roadsync for Microsoft Exchange?
does anyone know how to use/install default Android 2.1 email client for exchange?
is it possible with anysoftkeboard to have an on-screen keyboard with multikeys (I mean [abc] [def] [ghi] ...)? because a whole screen keyboard in portrait mode is too small, that's why I have a minipro!

Well I am talking about copying content from existing email while you are reading it. Futhermore I have mini, so no shift button, but then most of the android phones dont have qwerty so how the hell this works in general for others?

I'm not sure what you mean.. But in the gmail app you can copy text from any message (either a received, a draft or already sent) with the method that was described.
Again, i know this doesn't really help you in any way because you don't have a keyboard :-(

This works...sort of.
I now have native exchange support on my X10 mini pro.
I used root explorer to move /system/app/SemcEmailSmall.apk to my sdcard
then copied the email.apk from the link above into /system/app/ and set permissions to rw-r--r--
so far so good. Doesn't look like there is an option for calendar sync but at least exchange mail works.

exactly as the title says, i cant figure out how to switch to a different keyboard,
there's no option under the language and keyboard settings to actually select one of the other keyboard i have installed, any ideas??
I'm on cm7 also and only have one keyboard selection but I install swype beta and never looked back...do you want swype or the old sammy keyboard? Swype was pretty easy to install but I'm not sure about the old keyboard from froyo rom...idk if there is a work around to get it on cm7? You may be out off luck for that keyboard?

Are you looking to actually just select a new keyboard or install a totally new one
If selecting make sure it checked in language and keyboard settings and long press in any text box, choose input method and select the desired keyboard. thats how I did it

First, I'd like to say a huge thanks to the developers on XDA for everything you've done for my wife's new Nook Tablet and my old HTC Hero CDMA that's now running ICS (you rock jaybob)! You guys are all awesome!
On to my problems...
First, rooted the wife's Nook Tablet, did the partial debloat (worked flawlessly Indirect, after I fixed a driver issue on my end...had to uninstall it and grab it to install the proper drivers before it installed the usb mass storage device driver, otherwise ADB wouldn't see it).
All the B&N stuff is there and using Go Launcher on the "android" side. Here's my first issue...some menus (Beautiful Widgets & Astro File Manager to name a few) and a few other random apps have white text on the menu making it essentially impossible to read what that option is. I played around a little with the Go Launcher settings, but can't find anything to darken the text. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Second, wife doesn't like the stock android keyboard because each letter you press the preview of that character pops up right above it. I know it's a throwback to when you had small screens and it's just a confirmation of the letter your pressing, but she finds it very distracting (I don't even notice it! heh heh) Tried installing other keyboards but since there's no way to go to the stock android settings (only goes to nook settings), I can't enable the keyboards. I tried going to the nook hidden settings and selecting a new keyboard from there, but only the "android keyboard" shows up, not the other couple I tried installing.
Last, is there any way to bring up the stock android settings options?
Swore I'd never say this to keep like sounding like a noob instead of just a lurker, but I looked around the forums and didn't see any questions that addressed my "problems" ...so if there are answers to these somewhere, a link would be appreciated.
I have the feeling these are issues that can't be fixed until get access to the bootloader/recovery and get the ability to cook custom ROMs.
Thanks in advance for the help!

The stock android settings menu doesn't exist. Try using the Hidden Settings app to get to the most common settings.
Ahh...that explains it...was looking in the wrong forum! lol I think I was searching my HTC Hero forum since that's where I default to. The keyboard fix worked. Gonna try the menu thing later after I finish reading all the posts.
I've just installed Ultimatum beta 4 (and now I see RC1 is out) and so far haven't gotten alternate keyboards to work. I prefer Swype or FlexT9, and I go into Settings->Language and input to change my keyboard. While I can select FlexT9, the Android keyboard can't be unselected (it's selected and greyed out). When I go to type something I have to use the Android keyboard.
(I would've posted this in the Ultimatum thread in the development forum but I follow the advice about searching forums first and have only needed to post three times previously)
You should be able to pull down the notification when typing and you can switch.
Post some screenshots of settings.
When I type an email, there's no dialog or notification to pull down.
I've attached a screenshot.

OK, using hyper drive latest ROM. When going into settings and trying to switch default keyboard, it will not let me change it to anything other than the default Google keyboard even though I have swift key, kii, fleksy all checked. When it brings up the list of choices, I hit the dot to select a different keyboard and it immediately defaults to Google and won't allow any other choice. Anyone had any issues changing keyboards?
nevermind figured it out

It would be helpful to the community if you posted the corrective action, just in case someone else with a similar issue comes across this thread.
