Use Rom Manager (from the market) to download and install gapps and you should get the most up to date, maybe that was the problem?

Thanks that solved problem.

[Q] ROM Manager and CM Nightlies

I searched all over and cannot find an answer to this question. I have an Vibrant running CM 7.1 nightly #172, and I have ROM Manager Premium. I've read in several places that the CM Nightlies are supposed to be able to be found in ROM Manager, but I can't find them anywhere in ROM Manager. I've tried uninstalling updates, reinstalling them, clearing the cache, but I cannot find a solution. I really like being able to download the nightlies from withing ROM Manager. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Sorry for the n00b question.
I can find them on my Vibrant CM 7.1 nightly #158
In ROM manager v4.8.0.2 (Free)
Open Rom manager,
Go to Download Rom (4th item from the top)
The first entry is CyanogenMod Nightlies (under Premium)
Do you have any entries when you open the Download Rom section?
You may need network access for Rom Manager to build the list of available roms.
If you're already on CM7 Nightlies, you should be able to select "Check for ROM Updates" to go straight to the CM7 nightly roms.
D
I tried that, but there aren't any ROM's under the "Premium ROM" section. Also, even though I'm on Cyanogen Mod, when I click "Check for Updates" absolutely nothing happens.. I was just wondering if I'm the only person having this problem, and it looks like I am
Problem solved now. I wiped everything and started with a fresh install alltogether, now the CM Nightlies are showing up in ROM Manager

[Q] CM7 Screenshot Error

My friend got an AT&T SGS2 last night, and I helped her put CM7 (stable - not a nightly) onto her phone. She wanted to send me a screenshot of a theme she installed, but everytime she tries to take a screenshot she gets the following error:
error: /mnt/sdcard/tmpshot.bmp (permission denied)
Screenshot is saved at null
I did a few searches on XDA and Google, but couldn't find anything related to the SGS2. Could someone shed some light onto this for me?
First I would recommend AT LEAST going to the newest nightly that CM7 OFFICIALLY put out #181 as it is better than the rc1 which did not have as many fixes in it anyways. Or I ACTUALLY would recommend using the newest nightly from https://s3.amazonaws.com/cyanogenmodbuild.s3.mortimer.me.uk/index.html which is EVEN BETTER with more fixes than #181 and definatelly better than rc1.
Second she can just hold down the power button and when the onscreen popup comes up choose screenshot. This MAY have worked on rc1 but that is a VERY OLD release and I cannot remember if it even had scrrenshot on the power menu screen. The link I put is from Sam3000 and he is just building from source without adding/deleting anything that the CM TEAM is fixing.

I think I'm misunderstanding something. The latest official nightly I see for the ATT SGS2 is Nightly 20 which can be found here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=galaxys2att
You said that the latest is 181?
I checked ou the Unofficial nightlies page you linked and had a few questions about those.
1. Are they safe to flash right over the stable 7.1 official CM7 release with a cache and dalvik wipe? Or do you have to wipe the entire phone?
2. Is there a specific unofficial nightly that you recommend? I know from running nightlies on my Atrix that some are amazingly stable and snappy, while others are most definately not. I'd like my friend to have a smooth experience on her phone. She's not tech savvy, and this is her first Android device. I'd like her to have the best experience possible, which is why I had her flash the stable instead of a nightly to begin with.
Also, I did more research into the error with screenshots. The Droid Incredible had the same issue which could be fixed by changing the permissions on some files in /system. I still can't find anything SGS2 related with the error though. So again, if anyone has any info for me about it I'd appreciate it. If its between running a line or two in ADB and experiencing with flashing various nightlies, I think I'd rather stick with the simple fix.
Thanks in advance!
You can flash the nightlies right over stable CM7 with just wiping Dalvik and cache. Also like RockRatt mentioned.. The newer nightlies are far better than the "stable" that was put out. I would just recommend grabbing one of the latest from sam3000's thread.
Not sure about the screenshot error. Try updating to a nightly and see if the problem is still present.

Yes #20 was the last OFFICIAL nightly for the SGS2 sorry about that. I am still keeping up with my old captivate flashing CM7 and CM9 on it and its last OFFICIAL CM7 was #181 so sorry about the confusion.
I would go with the newest from the link I provided from Sam3000's site. I use it for mine and the wife and ONLY update hers knce I know it is stable enough so she doesnt have any issues either. So I would say go for his newest that came out on 02-15-2012 and it should be totally stable for her. I only ever wipe Dalvich Cache between builds but for you updating hers I would suggest to flash the newest unofficial nightly, then before rebooting flashing it a second time for good measure. This way only wiping Dalvich all her apps and everything else will still be there.
OR if you have any issues and or want to make sure just do a titanium backup of all her apps. Then wipe data/factory reset (will wipe out any and all parts of what she already had), then flash the newesr nightly twice before rebooting, then flash gapps before rebooting, then boot it up, then reinstall any apps from the market needed, then open tibu and restore USER APPS ONLY, She wont have any saved data for the apps this way but your starting her off clean again.

Well I had my friend install the nightly from the 15th like was suggested.
Sure enough, she still can't take screen shots, though this time it is a different error. It says....
Media Unmounted
Unable to save Screenshot: mBitmap = null
It appears CM7's default install requires that you have an SDCard in order to take screenshots, pictures, videos, or recieve text messages with pictures or videos. This is "fixed" by going into...
Settings > Cyanogenmod > Applications > Check off "Use Internal Storage".
After a reboot, your internal memory will be mounted as /mnt/sdcard instead of /mnt/emmc. This fixes the issue in the latest nightly. It should be noted though that I had her try this on the stable 7.1 release, and she was still unable to take screenshots.
Everything is fine now. I am a bit disappointed that CM ships "broken" to an average user if they don't have an SDCard. Some users (like me) know how to fix it right away. Your average user would have no clue. My friend Erika (above average user) is very computer literate, but has no linux experience and would have never figured out that the "media unmounted" errors she was getting were because the default setup requires an sdcard or that you toggle the "Use Internal Memory" checkbox.
Anyway, thank you for the responses!

[Q] Newbie Questions - recovery mode/google now on ics

Hi guys,
First of all, thanks for the great community, good to be here
I've just got my mediapad at a bargain as 2nd hand and installed 'CleanICE 1.5 Rom (ICS 4.0.3). It has a really great response and installed with such little effort on my part so cheers h25p. I considered a couple other ROMS too, particularly the one posted by 'after_silence', http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571 CM10 but it is said to have issues with HDMI out (which is an important feature to me) so I haven't tried that one yet.
What I'm trying to do now is boot in to Recovery (so I can install GoogleNow as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) but can't seem to figure it out for this ROM.
Has anyone had success doing so with ICS? Or better yet, anyone with experience of the 'glitchy HDMI' on the CM10 Jellybean ROM (is it really bad or is it workable most of the time)?
Cheers guys!
[edit]
used auto recovery installer and got CWM on the device now (after_silence provides link to it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571)
i thought installing that would wipe everything else so to other newbies, don't be concerned. it's just installing the recovery manager and nothing else is affected
after that i went and installed the 'GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.1.zip' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) from sd card in CWM but sadly when it boots up there is still no google now. any ideas on where to proceed from here?
Maybe our recoveries doesn't support aroma installer. Try to flash twrp instead of cwm or put manually lib and apk/apks from zip to your system folder (same as it is located in zip), set perrmisions to apk and reboot.

thank you for your suggestion, it has got me one step closer (well I suppose anyway). perhaps from here it is just something to do with the gnow port just not being compatible with my rom? after I install it manually and recheck all the permissions via my file manager, whenever i go to google search it simply says "unfortunately, google search has stopped."
Try to find another moded version. I tried it on stock fw (ICS) few mounths ago and it worked.

Thanks, also posted a logcat dump for one of the Gnow developers and they said there was a lot of location / graphics card errors and also suggested to try another ROM. Ended up flashing JB 4.1.1 AOKP for mediapad 30.1 Final (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876676) and enjoying GoogleNow which comes built in with it.
So far I'm really surprised at how much better it is - initially thought my battery was failing ( purchased my device 2nd hand) but the drain is really low now with this ROM. Seems a bit faster over all too. Didn't test out the HDMI function yet but hope that's not as bad as it sounds. Keeping my eyes open on the development of the 4.2.2 nightlys thread and will probably head over to that once HDMI and bluetooth is working a bit better there

[Q] "Status 7" error while installing CM 10.1 7/28 and 7/27 nightlies

Hello,
I'm trying to install CM 10.1 on my HTC One on T-Mobile. Im using CWM Touch v6.0.3.3. I've tried flashing both the 7/28 and the 7/27 daily builds of CM 10.1 as found on the cyanogenmod website. I selected the T-Mobile version of the software "m7tmo.zip" and tried uploading it, but got the error "status 7". It says "assert device: getprop" and then says a bunch of code about the product names "m7" and "m7tmo". So somehow I think there's a problem with the device and the software matching, even though I'm pretty sure I'm getting it from the official place. Currently I'm using the stock Sense 5 firmware, but I don't have Google Play access because I mistakenly installed the gapps. package (for Android 4.2). Does any one know of CM builds that work right now? And in the short term (and for my own edification), is it possible to download an older version of the gapps package that works with Android 4.1 that I can use?
Thanks for all your help!
Gapps: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps
Lists Gapps packages by Android build. You should be good to go there.
CM10:
Use TWRP instead of CWM: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/164
CM10: http://get.cm
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. I'm downloading the older version of GApps now. A little while ago I tried installing the older GApps package straight through ROM Manager but I don't think it worked. I'm still having trouble, except now I can't get into the play store and Drive won't sync, but other google services (gmail, etc) are working. Somehow, trying to install the GApps package via ROM Manager seems to have broken ROM Manager itself - I get an error message when I try to run it... and of course I can't just uninstall because I don't have Google Play access .
As for using TWRM, I tried already, but for some reason I don't see any files come up when I try installing a .zip package. I'm pretty sure I'm in the right spot and yet TWRM only ever shows directories with no files in any of them.
I think it's also worth mentioning that I have S-ON still, and the only methods I've seen to get S-OFF involve downloading apps from the play store which I don't have (ie. some terminal emulator and a different ROM app). I know its possible to do it through a computer but I haven't been able to find good documentation on how to do it.
So I think my troubleshooting flow chart looks something like this:
Fix Play store error > use terminal emulator to turn S-OFF > flash a better recovery file > install ROM of choice (after some more research I think i'll go with SentinelMod, any one use that one?)
Thanks again for the help folks!

Solutions for installing LineageOs and features?

recently highway_star ported lineage os to our beloved mi pad. but i am geting lot of questions on installing and some people are facing problems in installing.
so, Guys this thread is just for knowing the problems in installing the LineaeOs on mi pad and providing solutions to them. also if there are any bugs you are facing after installing post them here so, that if any one have a solution they can give and it may help in development of stable rom.
so guys lets ask.
I have installed gapps after merging two partions, rcently another update came for LOs 13 i have dirty flashed it after that my google play services are stoped to work, i also tried to install gapps again but it didnt slove the problem,so if any one facing the same problem and having any suitable solution post here it may help others.
So the thing what i did was that i did a full wipe of the entire Tab Internal + SD card (Everything basically) and then instead of using TWRP 3.0.1 (The latest version) i downgraded to the older version the 2.8.4 and then again i installed the 1.2GB Repartition Zip, Once that was completed i copied down linage os ROM to the SD card and also a copy of GAPPS Pico edition (ARM) as well and then installed it the normal way and it successfully got installed without any issues
hi @Hatsune_Rox i am having this wierd issue , if am trying to add another account in google the google play services is force closing. can you check weather this problem is occuring to you.
