Using ACTION_SCREEN_ON/OFF and wifi - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a broadcast receiver that listens for ACTION_SCREEN_ON/OFF and then changes the wifi state based on the screen status, using the Alarm Manager to schedule wifi states.
I am having a problem because when I turn the device on, I am able to connect to networks just fine, but the WiFi icon in the notification bar is false. Instead of showing the blue connected icon (honeycomb), it shows a faint white status, almost looking like the wifi is off. It almost looks like the status when it is in the process of connecting, but not as white.
I have even commented out the section that turns the wifi back on during wake up, but when I connect by manually turning on WiFi, I still get the incorrect icon.
Any ideas why this is happening?

My understanding is that Grey wifi icon = Connected and green/blue icon = connected to google (for push and sync services)

No. I just turned off the sync service and it still shows the blue icon.

I just tested the app on a 2.2 tablet and it doesn't have this problem, but 2.2. only has one connected icon. Bummer . . . this seems to be a honeycomb specific problem. Anyone out there know a way around this?

[Q] Wifi connected, but no internet

Here's the outline of the problem:
I'm able to use the wifi to browse the internet and whatever. I turn the screen off and wait maybe half an hour. When I turn it back on, it says it's still connected to my wifi network, but I can't go to any websites. When I look at my Elixir widget, I see that the signal strength is 0%. The only way to fix it is to turn off the wifi and turn it back on, since there's no disconnect button.
Does anyone else have this problem, and is there a solution?
It's like the phone is half asleep and was about to disconnect from the wifi network, but stopped somewhere in the middle.
Seems to be a major problem for a select few on gingerbread roms. I suffer from it on DSC 0.65. A workaround for it is to use WiFi Reassociate (free on the market). For more information look here:

if you 'long press' on the connection and tell it to 'forget', then you can 'do over / re-acquire'....
But nothing is showing up in range to connect to in the first place

darn, well then all i got is 're-install'. . . has the wonderful titanium back up - saved all your stuff ?
What I find that works is to cycle the wifi on and off a few times and each time you do go into setting for wifi and search for networks and eventually it shows back up. Just one of the uncommon bugs that happens at times. It will reshow back up.
I have found that if you launch WFI Analyzer when the WFI won't connect, and cycle the Off and then back On while Analyzer is running, it seems to make the WFI work again.

Looking for a simple status bar mod

Ok... I have been having the most bizarre wifi issue with my HTC One S. I have had this issue before with another phone. So it might not be the phone....it could just be my wireless router.
The problem is that I have no problem whatsoever connecting to wifi... But connecting to wifi, and getting data throughput isn't everything one needs.
When you connect through the wifi, you still need to connect to one or more of the following: (I) the mobile network riding over (or encapsulated in) the TCP packets, (ii) you need to connect to the Google network (or this may just be part of your data connection) in order for G+, gmail, talk, etc. to work.
On a great old CM7 theme I once had, the status bar was SO helpful because while the wifi was connected, I would see the wifi icon fully filled and white. But when it actually connected to the network, it turned blue
I looked around for something like this, but to no avail. Anyone have an idea how to change this or find a mod for it?
Sent from my HTC One-S (rooted), stock ROM

signal and data going from blue to grey

Im currently running latest paranoidandroid ROM and it seems that several times a day my signal and data goes color grey, while im in this status, i cannot receive any whatsapp or any connection whatsoever, i can receive calls tho.
Any idea how can i fix this ?
PD: same thing happened with latest rootbox ROM
I've noticed the same on multiple ROMs. It will be grey for a second or two then turn blue. I assumed it just meant it was in the process of connecting (e.g. wifi authorizing etc).
If for example I am connecting to a hotspot at Starbucks, I can connect to the wifi and the wifi bars will be grey. Then once I "login" to the Starbucks wifi where you agree to the terms and conditions, it gives you full internet access. That's when my bars turn blue.
It might be similar to the "limited connectivity" you get in Windows, connected to the network but with no internet access.
Though I might be completely wrong

Well yeah, actually, in my case, this does not only happen when connecting to wifi, it does happen at random times of the day. This is kind of annoying cause i lose data conectivity for a while and am unable to receive any kind of internet-related notification. :S
Anyone ?
My signal and Wi-Fi bars turn blue only when they're full. If i lose one bar they will turn grey. I lost Wi-Fi connectivity when I put to sleep my phone and fixed it by changing the keep connected while suspended in the advanced settings.

[Q] Vibrant Wi-Fi Problem

I have a problem with the Wi-Fi but it might be related to my particular device and not ROM (especially CM) related. I have the latest nightly Cm 10.1 installed.
Whenever I connect to wireless networks, whether at home, work or the coffee shop, the signal bar goes gray and then blue as it is supposed to, to indicate that it is connected to the Google services. However, after a short while, it disconnects from the Google servers (signal bar turns gray) and loses the connection to send/receive data. I have to turn the Wi-Fi off and on again in order to establish a connection. This happens every time. Does anybody else have this problem? Any solutions?
Note: I keep the Wi-Fi on during sleep setting at "Always" and I did not check the "Avoid poor connections" checkbox.
Thanks!
