Hey forum, I'm just windering if theres some sort of supported double adapter for the usb port.
I love the idea of being able to connect my flash drive to watvh movies but using the usb host cable takes up the only port for charging.
Does anyone have a good fix or.have found a good product?

Unfortunately you cant use mhl and USB otg at the same time, I wanted todo the same thing and play videos of a flash drive but found out that its impossible

Damn, cause I tried vlc but pc bein a ***** and Flex just wont play the videos.
Ah well, this is where an external usb slit would have been slightly better than hiding it under the covers...
Edit: meant MicroSD slot not usb slit.

Try a new USB cable I used a PSP USB cable for a while when my HTC hero USB cable stopped working properly. Just find some more USB cables and test them all.

You probably damaged the USB controller with ESD. You can try another USB port, but it's likely that all the ports are damaged (at least all the ports on that controller). Check the other ports on the PC. Most modern PCs have at least a couple of USB hubs built in. It is possible that a port on another hub or controller may work. Otherwise, you might be able to use a USB add in card in the computer if all the built-in ports are dead. They are relatively cheap if you have the slot in the machine to install one.

mount to PC is a known issue methinks. What is your current setup? Rom/kernel? and how are your settings? USB debugging set on/off? auto connect set to "ask on connection"?

Its common with the 2.2.1 roms. What you need to do is replace the vold.conf, and the vold.fstab files in system/ect. I have attached the ones you need. Just use root explorer and drop them in the ect folder, reboot, and test.

you should download toolbox from development section and the first option is to install drivers. once u run the program. install it and then test the usb cables. by the way i never charge my phone from a computer i like separate chargers so im using the charger for BB to charge my battery. its quicker as well.

Boston represent!!! Dorchester here. Its fool proof really. Just make sure you change the system to read/write in root explorer, and drop the files in the system/ect folder.

Is there a way to run both cables? With a splitter of some sort maybe? I've searched amazon for a cable with no luck.
Anyone on XDA know of a way?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Nope, when I first got the phone when it came out in searched that answer out for months in hope. Finally I just bought a new controller which was why I wanted it. I lucked out and grabbed a ps3 controller from newegg new for 32.99. What exactly are you trying to setup? The one thing I can tell you won't work is trying to get say a keyboard hooked up otg and use the mhl adapter.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I was hoping to hook up MHL and run a mouse actually. So I can control netflix and maybe a few games using the mouse on my tv.

Try using a bluetooth mouse to do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, a Bluetooth mouse a keyboard work for me when using MHL.
I would like to do MHL and USB OTG for playing a flash drive files on the TV, instead of copying it over. But, a microSD card solved some f that.
Bluetooth didn't even come to mind for some reason haha, awesome idea! Thanks guys!

I should mention for the storage bit that there are some apps that can mount samba (windows shared) folders and you can later access data using a media app and stream the data over the network.

Can't make it function
Hi guys I see that you are talking about MHL and OTG...and it seems you don't have probemlms with it on your i777.
On the contrary, I can't seem to make it work....When I plug a mouse, keybord or flash memory....NOTHING happens.
I already searched a lot....some people say it depends on the kernel (mine is Siyah 5.5.1)...some say it depends on the ROM (mine is AOKP 7.3)....I don't know which answer is correct......or maybe my OTG cable is faulty????.......
Please if you know something else that I can do to enable or anything....let me know!
Thanks in advance!
I believe you misunderstood, I explained you can use mhl and bluetooth mouse and or keyboard @ the same time. However that's not technically using MHL and otg cable.

I've connected my PS3 controller and synced it over Bluetooth with the Sixaxis app. I've also connected a mouse and it worked pretty well. Nothing else so far.
Man this phone is great. Would love to hear what else you guys have connected.

got a few flash drives to work. a few different mice. a USB hub AND.... a SNES controller i wired up for USB with the retro-USB chip.
the controller was plug and play! no hacking/drivers needed!!!
i would assume most of the Retro-USB DIY/solder type chips would work then cuz i think they are the same controller chip but just flashed different for the different types of controllers.
Hmm,
connected my usb HD , a usb flash drive, and my logitech unifying receiver --> with keyboard and mouse ...all at the same time via a powered hub ;-) ... and it works!
Great ideas! Waiting on my USB hub now. Thanks everyone.

Tried connecting it to various head units (was thinking about buying one for music), didn't work with any of them. And since the S3 doesn't support Mass Storage mode it basically can't be used at all (unless you do Aux or Blutooth, which I don't want to do).
is there a external dvd player disc drive for androids?
Not that i have seen, the biggest issue would be to get enough power to it.
If it was a drive that also plugged into a wall socket i guess it could work but a app would need to be written to play the dvd.
And as it would not get enough power just from the devices usb it wouldnt be very portable and so quite pointless

Android doesn't recognize CD or DVD drives. I have a USB to SATA/IDE converter that is externally powered. On CM9 on my Touchpad I can hook it up via OTG and computer HDDs will work just fine both in SATA and IDE. But CD and DVD drives don't show up at all in Android.
but would it be possible to create a app and driver for android? i have heard of some tablets aparently having cd drives dont no how true it is.

I have a roadcam in my car that records onto an sd card and I was wondering if there is a way to take out the sd card and connect it to my note 2 maybe using the usb plug so that I could backup the video recordings using an app called dropspace to my dropbox. Thanks.

If I understand your question correctly what you're wanting to do is pull the files off the Sd card and upload them with your phone.
If thats what you want to do you could just get a USB OTG cable and a SD card reader that is made to be plugged in to a USB port. That should be all you need to get this working. You can get both of those from Amazon, just dont go with an uber cheap OTG cable. There have been reports, on Amazon and XDA, about some of the cheap OTG cables hard bricking/burning up. Last I checked they didnt know exactly what it did, they said that the devide reacted like the battery had been pulled and the phone, or Nexus 7 and a bunch of other tablets, went off and no matter what they were unable to get it to come back on. The OTG cable I have was about $10 and it works perfectly, theres no reason to pay the exorbitant fee Samsung wants for their official cables seeing how the only difference would be the name on the cable.
