[Q] Problem with Notification Sounds - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. I am using a Huawei U8500 with CyanogenMod 7 (2.3.5-Slax-SP10-3) and have been having an issue with ringtones/notification/UI/unlock (a.k.a. all) sounds. Before, none of the sounds (except Music) would work on CM7, but I figured that out. It was the sound profiles that were overriding all my other attempts at resetting volumes.
However, while my sounds were disabled, I used the Music app to set a song as a ringtone to see if the sounds would work again. Now that I have solved the issue with the volumes, every single one of the sounds (again, except music) are replaced with the song that I set as my ringtone. When I go to Settings>Sound and try and select a new sound, all the previews of the sounds are even of that song. I checked the .ogg files in /system/media/audio and they still play the correct sound.
Now for the questions:
-Has anyone encountered this issue or something similar?
-If not, how does Android handle setting a song as a ringtone?
-Does it put the .mp3 file somewhere on the root phone storage? (If so, I could just delete or rename it and hope for the best.)
-Or, does it simply reference the .mp3 file on the SD? (If so, I could rename it so that it wouldn't be able to fetch it.)
Thank you very much for any help!

.mp3 SMS Notification Issue

Hi guys,
Dont hate on me if it's been answered before, but I have a question that I would really like a straight answer to. Before I had my Raph, I was raised on Nokia's. In this instance, when I have a full .mp3 track as my message tone, it would play, then when the phone was activated (unlocked or msg read) the song would stop playing. I would like someone who has to knowledge to think of a way that this setting can be replicated on the Raph.
It is annoying to no end that the only tones I can get that don't play for +3mins are small, low volume chimes that I can't hear in the car, walking with the phone in my pocket etc.
If a fix could be found, can someone post a link OR explain how this can be done.
Thanks in advance.
have you tried convert the music file to .wav format instead of .mp3
Ok just confirming. I can get the .mp3 file to play as my message tone. But it will play start to finish. I want a fix or mod that will stop it playing once I have unlocked the phone or turned the screen back on.

That happens when you put them in your ringtone folder, have you tried to put them in the root of your sd card then selecting them in the notifications menu?
as far as I know there is no thing like that. BTW Welcome Fellow Nokia to TP USER. I also only was a Nokia person and decided to try something new. Sure this thing doesn't have as many cool things as my Nokia E62 but the customizing that can be done is fun as hell.
.WMA seems to be the preferred Ringtone format from what I am seeing in the file system - yes, it will work with other formats.
I haven't found a way to stop playback once it has started; seems like it has to go through to the end of the audio file.
a way 2 stop it is 2 press down on the d-pad, like the direction down. It will stop. I was having the same problem with my fuze.

Ringtones Disappears after power off

Hi all,
I'm just having a weird issue with my ringtones. It seems that after I've trimmed a song, and set it as default ringtone, which works fine, as soon as I power off the phone, i lose the ringtone and have to do it again.
Is anyone else having the same problem? I wondered if it gets saved in some sort of temp directory or buffer in the phone somewhere that I need to save permanently to the phone's internal memory or SD card.
Cheers
Gaz
Yepp,
same problem here, ended up with moving the trimmed one from /.ringtonetrimmer to my MP3 dir and selecting it as ringtone (same place as choosing to trim) from the music player.
Ah OK I'll give that a go, nice one
Yup the /.ringtonetrimmer is useless at present state.

[Q]Ringtones dont play all the way.

Currently running the most recent energy rom. My ringtones only play for like 2 seconds then stop, then repeats when someone is calling. I know it cant be the mp3 file itself because it fully plays in my media player. Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.
Bump
I have the same problem with an SMS alert that is about 6 seconds long. Have tried putting the MP3 in phone memory and on storage card. Problem occurs on various ROMs (COM2, COM3 etc). Goes away for a short while after a soft reset.
Must admit, I haven't tried changing the file type to .wav or .wma to see if that helps yet.
I just solved it. I went over to "ring type" in the sound and display menu...it said "ring type: Currently set to: "Other". I changed mine to Ring and vibrate, and that fixed it.

[Q] Weird Ringtone issue

I have a LG Optimus T509 and I have flashed it with CM7
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0+RC1-Thunderg-KANG
Kernel: 2.6.32.42-franco.kernel.v18
Suddenly I am facing a weird issue with my ring tones, I set my ringtone to "Cassiopeia" originally. Since yesterday, even if i try to change my ringtone in the sound application it plays the sound "Club Cubano" when i select any of the ringtones in the phone. Same track over and over and over again.
I tried changing the ringtone from the profiles and there too the same issue. Interestingly, the phone doesnt ring to "Club Cubano" which it plays while testing the ring tones from sound setting. It plays something else.
Is there a fix for this / Is this a known issue?
I have similar problem with my P500. Not sure when it started, already a while ago, didn't have time to deal with that earlier.
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Thunderg-KANG
Kernel: 2.6.32.42-franco.kernel.v18
I noticed that phone wasn't playing the ringtone (a mp3 file in the Music folder on SD card) it should. Ringotne in the Sound settings seemed correct. When I tried to change it to anything else it still played the same song.
Another weird thing is that if caller hang up before I pick up the phone ringing music stops and another track starts playing as if music player continues playing the song which was interrrupted. It stops when I press anything on the screen (if locked have to unlock first).
I tried renaming those to music files and then I got some generic rigtone. So for now I renamed the second music file and sticking with the unchangeable ringtone. Fortunately the song is OK, but still the issue is damn annoying...
Any ideas how to fix this?

"Alone in Kyoto" Ringtone for Galaxy Note

For everyone who is simply blessed with the "Alone in Kyoto" Samsung Galaxy Note Ad in USA, here is the Ringtone.
Extract the attached mp3 from the rar folder and push with ringdroid or create/add to sdcard/media/audio/ringtones folder and select in ringtones.
Cheers

You can put it almost anywhere on internal sdcard, but watch out trying to put it on external_sd.
i.e. /mnt/sdcard/Ringtones works fine. The problem I can see is trying to read it under /mnt/sdcard/external_sd (which I would prefer)... it fails to read it on external_sd, so only internal sdcard will work for some reason.
Oddly, it reads my notifications fine on external_sd, and they are in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Notifications, nothing fancy.
Very odd issue this...
UPDATE: I realized I had a .nomedia file in my dir on the SD. That allows the media scanner to ignore that dir, if you have a reason to do so. (which I did and had totally forgotten about!) I removed the file and the media scanner properly sees my ringers in any dir I put them on external_sd now.
D'Oh!

I have plenty of ringtones in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Ringtones and I can pick them just fine in both GB and ICS. Mine are both MP3 and M4A format.
I am not sure what is causing your problem, but I would double check your file sizes and song lengths. I always crop mine to 30sec or less. Most times my call goes to voicemail before the ringtone ends.
I really like the song, but it really doesn't work well as a ringtone. It starts way to low and is way too long; gets cut off when the phone stops ringing.
The ringtone has to get my attention right away. This one's lulling me to sleep.
Thanks for the song, though.

The constant bass line (for lack of a better word) is essentially the ringtone for me, the rest of the song is just a warm velvety wrapper around it. I always have my phone next to me, so I prefer the more subtle tones rather than the ones that jerk you out of a deep sleep.
The song is definitely cool though - thanks to OP.
