Hello All,
First let me start by staying thanks to the individuals responsible for rooting this device. I'm really enjoying this tablet.
Now on to the topic:
The n button originally pulls up the Barnes & Noble bar when clicked. Now what I found out is that when installing a launcher like Go Ex and hiding the status bar in the settings of Go Ex, the n button now disables the B&N bar on single click and pulls up your default HOME on double click.
Please check and post what you concluded.
I dont see that option in the settings. Which section is it under?

Didnt work for me...i have home switcher thought
Rooted, with Zeam launcher and Button Savior installed.
The "n" button brings up the B&N bar, and the Button Savior home soft button brings up Zeam. Loving it!

It's under preferences in go launcher, not the actual settings.
Its under the Go launcher Prefrences, then Screen settings. I noticed it only works lets say when you open the app drawer, then by hitting the n key twice it takes you to your default home. But when you are using an app the n key seems to open up B&N bar still.
Now what I think is by disabling or hiding the status bar completely it will reconfigure then n key to use for home. If someone can write a simple app or hack that hides the status bar completely then it would always work I think.
Anyone?
I also use button savior with other launchers.

I've tried nearly every multitasking switcher on the market and I still cant find one that works correctly. Is there a switcher that goes to ADW on single tap home and goes to the switcher on either long press or double tap?
heres a list of what I've tried (issues are in parentheses)
powerstrip (too small, single tap access)
Quickdesk pro (doesn't work, makes screen flash black and go crazy)
perfect task switcher (single tap access, wonky)
MultiTask Manager (single tap access)
TaskOS (no home button setting)
Underground (takes over the screen, isn't really a task switcher, ugly list)
Appswipe (clunky, ugly, paid to set to home button)
Softkeys- Would be awesome, if I could get the settings to work as advertised (see below)
Prehome (best task switcher BUT single tap access)
Softkeys:
Softkeys has an option for setting single tap home (ADW) and then an option for long press home (PreHome). This would be the perfect solution, but for some reason the long press home doesn't work no matter what I do. Any Ideas?
The Ideal task switcher for me would be anything simple (a bar or box with icons) that could be brought up with double or long click home. If you know of any I'd love to try them out.
I would like to figure this out as well. Haven't seen anything about it around here

Softkeys works for me, I have it set for single tap home and double tap softkeys. I don't believe Softkeys supports long button presses, I think that option is referring to the virtual home button that Softkeys presents on screen when called up.

Yes, it does not support long press on the physical button, that would be nice... As said above, it's a long-tap on the Home button on the popup.
Any ideas if we are using button Savior instead of soft keys?

Powerstrip does single or double tap. I currently have mine setup with ADW EX. Single tap to Homescreen and double tap to invoke.
I might use power strip then, is there a way to make it larger? As for the long press on home, hopefully we'll see cm on the nc
EDIT:
I got powerstrip working pretty well, but as I said before I wouldn't mind it being slightly bigger, also the "recent apps" folder has a few issues of its own. When a large game (or grooveshark) is in the recent apps and you try to launch it you get an "activity no found" error.
I found PreHome to work best.
I have the physical button mapped to PreHome, then when have PreHome open SoftKeys.
I like button savior. It pull the last 6 apps that u have used when you long press the soft home button.

........as does softkeys..
Try swipepad beta... I dig it.
Works from anywhere in an app or not

You may want to check out Taskswitcher (free). Once set up it uses single press on physical home key to invoke recent apps list and allows you to set up your own home app for double tap. Long press is not supported I don't think. If anyone knows of apps that allow setting long press actions (recent apps or otherwise) please share. I did notice in the DEV forum that someone made a custom Froyo version with custom home button behavior including long press so maybe someone could share how to set that up in 2.1 if thats possible.

Thanks for this tip! I replaced SK with BS a day or two after rooting, and had no idea this functionality was built into BS!
If you turn off the sk service check mark you can double press the nook button and still use bs

SK Service is the SoftKeys service. If it's running, you get a curly arrow in a circle that allows you to bring up the home, back, menu, and search buttons. It should be installed by default if you autonooter. Otherwise, it's available in the Dev section of the forum.
The "recent apps" button is a great addition to the UI, but I'd also like to have a dedicated button on the button bar for opening the app drawer.
To those of you more versed in UI-fu than I am: what would be the best way for me to add an app-drawer button to the button bar, eg. right next to the "recent apps" button, so as to facilitate direct access to the app drawer from any app?
Thanks
Use Nova Launcher and map the home button alternate mode to open the app drawer. So in effect, one press on home will send you to your home screen and the second press will put you in your app drawer.

This. Other than that, its not possible unless the rom itself is edited to do it, which again, isn't possible, because different homescreens have different app drawers.

You wouldn't happen to know of any SystemUI mods that fit the bill I suppose...
The black bottom border is gone? Specifically, I'm trying to access the menu when reading a book in Google Books on my rooted Nook. The bottom bar disappears so I can't use the onscreen menu key, and playing around with the N doesn't do anything.
I guess you are in stock, you need an app called button savior or zMooth each will give you back, menu, home . zMooth is based on gestures and its my fav.

This might help, if you are on cm7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23159165

Thanks, I'll give zMooth a shot.
As simple as this sounds...how does one return the status bar if you hid it for a full screen app? I tried pressing the nook button, volume buttons, and power button to no avail...sure if I press the nook button that exits me out of the app but if I go back into the app the status bar is still hid. I went into the settings and tried all the"unhide buttons"and that didn't seem to work either.

I always use an app called Button Savior. It gives you access to the settings menu, back, and home buttons even while in full screen apps.
Not sure about getting the entire status bar in full screen though. I think that kind of defeats the purpose of FULL screen, haha.
Is it possible to create a "Home" icon on the toolbar next to, say, back icon? Only reason I am seeking that is then I won't have to physically hit the Nook button every time.
P.S.: It is a fully rooted Nook tablet.
How about Button Savior?
I cannot specifically answer your question, but I would recommend Button Savior for the time being. I used it while rooted with NT and still use it with CM7. I prefer not to use the physical buttons unless I have to.
Ed
If you install CM7, you can customize the menu bar to include your choice of home, back, notifications, search and settings buttons.
Yes, you can add a home icon to the toolbar by modifying the systemui.apk. Here is a link to the thread in the app section.

Attached is a screen capture showing my home screen with the home icon on the status bar.
If you are just using a rooted nook, the home manager app can provide similar funtionality (albeit with a couple more clicks.)
