Hi,
Recently I'm having a problem with the LED flash, whenever I try to use it either to take a photo or on the flashlight app, it makes a short flicker and then shuts down. In case I want to take a picture at night it is particularly annoying because the flash terminates before the picture is actually taken so everything comes out darkened.
I'm wondering if anyone else ever experienced this problem as well. I'm not sure this is a hardware problem like a busted flash, or maybe there some software bug making this happen.

I never had this issue.
Have you already tried to install the S2 Camera Update from Samsung Apps?
It tests if you need the firmware update for the S2 camera and installs it if needed.
Additionally you can test the flash "hardware" by using any of the flashlight apps from the Market. Just to check, if the LED works fine.
Good luck !
Thanks for the reply!
I will check Samsung camera app, though I think my firmware is up to date.
As for the torch app, I have tried using it and it shows the same kind of behavior.
The only thing that makes me think this is a software issue is that the ffash does turn on for fraction of a second.

i know, eh?
I am having the exact same problem.
the flash goes on for the metering, then flashes a few times quickly but never in sync with the shutter, it seems..
sometimes torch applications work but never for very long (if i turn it off, sometimes i can't turn it back on, i mean... rarely problems with it not staying on)
i've had a few pictures showing up with vertical bars (almost like multiple exposure times) when i've forced the flash on when it wasn't really needed.
Also being driven insane by this problem.
im having the same problem with my s3. Did you fix it?
any solutions?
mine is exactly the same. has anybody found the solution? would be glad to know. thanks

I'm currently having this issue and it's really frustrating, I had it first on the Galaxy S3 with 4.2.1 stock rom, I don't know if it might be an app that might be causing this, basically when i lock the phone the screen turns off but then when i press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen it does not do anything, I know the phone is still on because sometimes if i get a text message i can see the blue led blinking and it will continue to blink even when it's frozen.
The only way to bring it back is by holding the power and home button together in order to reset it.
I tried factory reset and it would not work, I flashed the phone with a custom rom for Paranoid Android 4.3 and it worked great for about a week, no issues at all, but then it started freezing when locked again. I hate this and i'm thinking it might be a hardware issue since I've tried different software versions.

Even worst, if i'm listening to music and i lock the phone or if the screen times out and locks when i try to unlock it i can see it's stuck but the music is still playing....
Also, if the phone is stuck and i try to call it, it will not ring not turn the screen on, it's not like the problem is just the physical buttons, i don't know what to do since the phone is out of warranty, I have never dropped the phone and there is no damage on it, it have never over heat either so i don't know what can i do.....
Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated.

Thank you for the reply, do you know specifically what kind of hardware problem was it? Were you able to fix it or you just had it replaced?
no not yet sorry...

But it's really strange, It is a hardware issue and it should affect all the time, not randomly i would think... I don't know if the problem is with the processor or the buttons, i don't know how to determine that..

The first week with Paranoid Android 4.3 it worked greatm even faster than the stock rom and I also liked it because it is android 4.3, the issue started one week after, and i'm thinking that during the first week i did not install all the apps i use, once i installed all the apps it started happening.
The first time i had the issue was right after the facebook messenger app was updated, i tried uninstalling it and the issue was still happening, if i check the running apps and i can see several of my apps running in the background such as Facebook messenger, Viber, Skype, Avast (6 services) Applock, GO weather EX, whatsapp, Facebook.
Maybe i'm just reluctant to think that this is a hardware issue, cause there is no way for me to get some logs or a hardware report that may show any crashes or anything.. I like this phone, it have everything i need and i refuse to think that it's a piece of crab but i've had nothing but troubles with it since day 1...
I dont think it is SW problem because even flashing multi package stock firmware doesn't fix the issue.I tried replacing lcd and display driver but still remain unsolved.
Edit:I think there is a defective sensor chip which I don't have a unit to test already.
hello, i have same issue, and stil stuck with it, anyone can help me?
Hello All!
I'm quite new to this forum and not sure if anyone else had this problem before, but I think it's worth a thread anyway. I always solved my android problems on my own, though I haven't got the slightest of clues of what's going on with my phone right now.
So the problem is what's the title of the thread. Whenever I take a picture with the camera with flash enabled, the phone shuts down or freezes. Not sure which, because the screen goes black immediately after taking the picture, and it will not come back by touching the screen or pushing the power button or pushing it for a long time to switch it on or restart it. The phone only comes back to life if I remove the battery and put it back.
Some testing I did so far:
- The flash is working on it's own, it doesn't cause any problem. I tried it with a flashlight app.
- the camera works well without flash enabled, no shut down/freeze there.
- tried 2 camera apps, Camera Zoom FX, and the stock camera app for Samsung S3. Both caused the shut down / freeze thing with flash enabled when I took the picture, and both worked well without flash enabled.
- The only modification I did recently is replacing the battery, which works pretty well without any issues or strange behaviour.
Some other info's that might be needed:
Model : GT-I9300
The phone is rooted.
Android version : 4.3 - Stock (no modification, not flashed, no cyanogenmod)
Any suggestions?
Hello and welcome on XDA,
I would like to know which battery you are using.
After that I would suggest you doing a factory reset.
Kind regards
Trafalgar Square
Camera drivers have probably borked.. It has happened to my old s3 a while ago.
Backup, reset, flash stock twice and go from there. It's the only real fix that i know of.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I bought an S9+ on launch day long story short it lasted 2 weeks before it would just shut down itself anytime you put it to sleep (screen off). I figured out after doing some tests and research that it would only do it when the fingerprint scanner was turned on. I sent it to Samsung which if anyone has had the pleasure of dealing with their customer service knows it's a nightmare to say the least. At least 2 week turnaround time but in the end they did come through and send me a brand new in box s9+.
Fast forward about a month later the new one is doing the EXACT same thing. If I turn the fingerprint scanner off and just use facial unlock it works fine. I really don't want to go through their customer service again and be without a phone for 2 weeks. I think this very well could be a software issue though factory reset does not solve the issue neither does erasing fingerprint and re entering them.
Has anyone else experienced this? I saw searching google that it is actually an issue others have had and like me, their replacements have all done the same thing. I am yet to find a thread with a solution though. What do you guys think? I'm actually wondering if perhaps rooting it and putting a custom rom on it would help.
Honestly, I have not heard of this before. After you try with fingerprint can you turn the device on at all?
Do you have any apps that may in the background that captures button inputs or fingerprint apps that capture slide movements or anything?

Nope it seems to go off within seconds with the fingerprint scanner enabled. Even if I try to wake it up with the power button it seems to be dead. I've had the phone for about a month now and haven't recently added any new apps. I don't believe I have any apps that would be capturing anything. Is there any app I could use to check and see if perhaps I have something app related thats causing this?
I do believe it's gotta be software related.
You can type *#0*# in the dialer, then go to sensor and scroll down to find fingerprint test
Hello,
I have been using Honor 10 for a month almost.. When I'm taking pictures with AI turned on, sometimes phone won't take pictures anymore, you simply tap to take a picture but nothing happends, flashlight also automatically turns off and you can't turn it on.. After, when you turn off AI and turn it on again, you can take pictures and turn on flashlight again.. I tried to update software, rebooting, but I have experienced this problem again.. About cutting, I have problem on IG for example. When I watch stories, edges being cut off.. I tried bringing back navigation dock but same problem.. Have anyone experienced this problems too?

I have the same problem... It was like its not responding, what I do is that I select another mode. (video/aperture) then back to photo mode with AI and it works again... it is annoying specially if you want to capture that particular moment.... also it heats up the back side near the rear lens when using AI for longer periods of time. Hope it can be fix on Android Pie update...
It happens to me as well but if I keep pressed the button longer it takes the photos (too many ?) but at least you don't lose the moment . I hope it will be fixed on pie ?
Issues fix in EMUI 9. But heat builds so fast using AI photography.
I have exactly the same issue over three months now. I thought I was the only one but I found that many others have this issue too. Does HONOR know about this issue on the device? I hope so because it is very annoying after taking two pictures with the ai feature on, I press the button to take a photo a nothing happens I have to manually disable ai or to switch from video to camera again for another two camera shots. I contacted honor support they said to do factory reset, clean cache reinstall apps relogin to my Google account nothing has fixed this damn issue. Waiting for emui 9 if the update doesn't fix it I will sell my phone cause it's very frustrating
Hi all, first of all... I am posting this here because I've discovered this "feature" via my S10, but it probably isn't necessarily a S10 feature. It just never happened with my S7 and my work iPhone doesn't replicate it either.
Right, so if you open a private message/conversation on Instagram and with your screen on, flip the phone with the screen facing down, it will start recording audio (you will notice a little vibration if you have vibrations activated).
The behaviour gets even weirder if you keep your phone facing down long enough before you turn it again... as the screen stays completely switched off but the app still records audio. It takes a few tries to turn the screen back on. However, if you turn the phone again shortly after the vibration, it will flash back on again.
Anybody noticed this before? Is quite unusual and I cannot really tell why this is even a feature... other than secretly recording a conversation?
Huh, just tried it and you are totally right. I'm guessing it's a bug. I never send direct messages on instagram but that definitely seems like it could be a big problem. I tried a quick google search and couldn't find anything about it either.
It's so you can put your phone up to your face (like if you had a phone call) it will record an audio message for you automatically. It's doing what it is supposed to but it does make sense to be a little bit worried about this. Instagram should implement some way to disable this feature.
Its like the same on whatsapp when you listening to an voice message and And tilt your phone in your hand as if you were on the phone it will be black too thats a stupid function in the s10
